I hate it here. And trust me, I like me a good, grungy, divey bar, but this place is straight up hell on the weekends. It gets really really packed, and not in a fun way. People insist (with attitude) on playing pool when there is *zero* standing room. The bathroom looks, smells and feels like that shitmonster from the movie Dogma exploded all over it. And I'm pretty sure it's *the* destination for freshly of age, grungy bridge and tunnel hipsters. I hate slamming places, but if a friend asked me if I liked Delerium I would say, "Hell no. I-will-never-step-foot-in-here-again," so I think that's good reason for a 1-star. read more

I wish I could write a review of this place, but my husband and his friend -- both foreign-born -- were not allowed inside. We were told that because they didn't have US driver's licenses or passports, we would not be allowed inside because of a recent crackdown/fine. I understand that Delirium doesn't make these rules, but it's cowardly to enforce them. You operate in an immigrant neighborhood and this rule overwhelmingly discriminates against immigrants (many of whom can't get driver's licenses and either don't have or can't risk taking national passports out at night). Either get some cojones and stick up for your patrons, or get out of the Mission. read more

Drinks are dirt cheap and they play super fun music. When you just want a low-key spot where you can dance to oldies + hip hop, Delirium's your spot. Also, if you order a martini, they give you two glasses of drinks (one glass can't accommodate their pours). And I think a martini costs approximately $4. Like I said, cheaaaaaaaaap drinks. Dirty bathrooms. Pool table. All you'd expect and more in a good dive. read more

I used to really enjoy this bar, Cheap Beer and Good Times, But last time I was down there The Femal bartender with all the tattoos stole my money. I ordered A shot and a Beer Equaling 6 bucks, I gave her a 20 and then my drunk friend tosses in a 5 dollar bill. You know what change she gave me, Three freaking dollars. Then when I politly asked her about it she gave me freaking attitude. I guess she thought I was drunk and wouldnt notice, she did it to several other poeple that I could see but they were drunk and didnt notice. So if you go there dont order your drinks from her. She is Tall, Black Hair, Tattoos on her arms, fairly atractive if you like that type. read more

Extremely gross. Bouncer was rude and think he's the shit. No! You are just a short white, dumb asshole with anger issue and no one will respect you. Bartenders are mostly friendly.The bar itself is small and smells. The drinks are cheap, small and water down. This place trying to be a cheap dive bar but instead they make themselves trashy and ghetto. Only boring people and bros come here. Failed. I used to come here more often years ago with my friends. It was bad already. But now this just became my least favorite bar in the mission. Delirium was those bar where you just get one drink then you can move on to the next bar. not so bad auctually. last time i was there was the day of my little black out....so i couldnt remember liking this place or not. since i kept my alcoholic self in check this time i was able to get a better feel for this place ..and i liked it. thursday night is becoming my new friday night..then no. every night is a good night to have a few drinks so scratch that... the bartender..who apparently i have met before but never remember..she is cool. drinks strong. always some good tunes and interesting things on the tv..looking around the bar i like who i see. us hardcore folk who arent afraid to drink strong on a thursday night. ... i just have to remeber to not get more than one margarita here..and good lord no more shots of jamies. just might have to become a regular..... read more

Such a fun dive bar and they have a small dance floor!!! There is a $5 cover during the weekend I believe and most of the drinks are strong.

When I think of Delirium, I think of fat blondes and thirty-something 'hipsters'. Whatever. Cheap drinks, nice tunes, and unpretentious atmosphere. I try to leave in less than 20 minutes after a lucky Tecate or two. read more

This place creeeeeeped me out and I was just walking by!!! If the vibe the bouncers give to mere passers-by was this bad, I can't even IMAGINE how horrible this place is inside. A bouncer supposedly name "tommy" was so tweaked out of his mind I wanted to call the police...I was just passing by looking for directions and his aggressive approach to clearing the sidewalk made me feel like we were in the middle of a drug deal! I have never been so insulted, belittled and verbally abused in my life. STAY AWAY!!' when I tried asking the man at the front door his name and he just blew me off. One of my favorite bars in the city. Mostly because i was introduced to this place by one of the first people i met in this city and she took me around and introduced me to everyone she knew, including everyone here. No matter what time of day, you can walk in here and strike up conversation with whomever, the bartenders are chill if you aren't acting like a giant douchebag and the dance area, no matter how packed, is always fun. oh, and it's dog friendly :) read more

This bar is a mission standard where 21 year olds go to cut their teeth on tecate, and where the locals go to drink a shot and eat some free BBQ. The bartenders are as badass as you'd want them to be on 16th street. Plus the back room has a dj every night and, gasp, people are actually dancing! The bathrooms are legendary. read more

Ok so i used to love this place. Whats not to love, cheep drinks, dance floor with awesome music and nice bartenders. But recently every time i go here something bad happens 1. The dance floor gets to crowed and filled with broken glass, it easy to get injured. 2. My friend got her iphone stolen or accidentally taken out of her jacket, then the girl who took it left it in the street. 3. my friend and i got roofied. We only had shared 2 drinks together and luckily i had a bunch of friends to take care of me, so i got home safely. but still very scary. Guhhhh ok. So I got called out for not really "writing a review" on this one by a few folks, so I thought I'd revise this to be more review-like, and especially to defend myself from being called a hipster-hater (my original review: It's true, this is where hipsters go to die). Before we commence on the actual review portion, it should be noted this is a review subjective to my own experiences, feelings, etc. and that I have nothing against those who claim to be "hipsters" or people who call me a "hipster", or people that hate on hipsters. I don't even know what it means to be a hipster. I just dress the way I dress. That said, it's not that I don't like Delirium. I do. I really do, and it's one of the first places I used to regularly hang out at when I was new in town. Often a hit or a miss, but this is in the block where you're bound to run into someone you know, and it makes for a good time, generally. delirium isn't necessarily a dirt cheap or a fancy bar. It's a dive in the Mission, a place where neighbors and kids come out to play. Drinks are decent, and the bartenders are always nice. People mind their business and there's never drama. I enjoy the laid-back nature and the variety of music played here, as well as the occasional billiards, but having been offered a crack rock next to the pin-ball machine by some cholo, provided that I ditch my boyfriend, kind of made me like the place less. I know that's not necessarily an experience related to the bar operating itself the way it does, but this was kind of like just another reason to try to scope out another place to go in the Mission. it's not like this is the only bar. The other thing that started to get to me was the amount of East Bay bros that obviously crossed the bridge to come here on the weekends. Or the ones from North Beach that decided it was cool to branch out. There is little place in the Mission for popped collar and sport coats, and especially no room for hair gel and silly pickup lines... please. It is menacing. Who behaves this way anymore? I could look past this if it weren't for the fact that everytime I'm outside smoking some creep who claims to be an artist would start talking to me and try to get me to go home with him. Or the fact that each time I go, the bar seems emptier and emptier and there is something so sad/pathetic about a few scattered individuals getting wasted alone in an empty bar, drowning their sorrows in vodka. I haven't hit mid-life crisis yet and I'd rather hang out somewhere more lively. All that aside, if I'm invited to hang out I always stop in. read more

this is MY bar. if i have a serious girlfriend again, and said girlfriend and i break up, this is the place she will not be allowed to go. so many legendary things have happened for me here and i dont dare to regale you with my anecdotes because evertime i come here its an adventure. pros: booze cheap doormen remember the JT usually an EXTREMELY favorable girl to guy ratio this bar's layout encourages mingling! it does it does. usually good music on the dance floor weekends get CRAZY. crowd surfing crazy. mexican bacon wrapped hot dog dudes out front (sometimes) cons: weekends get CRAZY. packed in like N-Judah during rush hour occassionally DJs play some undanceable BS bridge and tunnel and marina content high on weekends i have always hit it off with girls here that are on vacation in SF (JT dont do HIT AND RUN. not my style) bottom line: this place is a popular hipster bar that almost everyone goes to. cheap drinks. cool dance floor/smoking chamber, 80s on the weekends and crowded as F. fun-o-meter: like playing spin the bottle. lame, until you get to kiss the hot girl and you thank god you decided to participate. Used to be a great spot to dance in the back. Now is overcrowded and the music changed. Crowd has gotten shady. Drinks are overpriced and bad. Most people come here on Friday nights after they have already been drinking, resulting in the adjacent street being full of puke. You know, everytime I go here I feel like I'm 50. From the girl screaming and crying because she lost her purse, to the dudes fighting with skateboards, to just a lot of hightschool bullshit, I am kinda over this place. Somehow, I always end up falling down on the dance floor here. There are several reasons why. First, I am usually destroyed from the cheap drinks. Second, the floor is slippery from puke and spilled beer. Third, I am usually a bit too enthusiastic on the dance floor due to the quality eighties mix the dj spins on Saturday nights. Falling on the floor here is something you want to avoid because it is also an ashtray. This place is disgustingly dirty. I just now figured out why I like this place so much -- it reminds me of my 18-21 yo days dancing in Tijuana discos while smoking indoors. Oh, a few people get singed in the process, but everyone is always too drunk to notice that I just burned a hole in their arm. read more

anyone who gives delirium a bad review, clearly went there with no intention of dancing. delirium is the BEST bar in the mission to go dancing at. not only do they play super fun music (wednesdays are the best, 60's pop & soul) but there is a whole back room to dance in, and it's always full of people who want to ACTUALLY dance, not just hump each other. sure, it's super dirty and the bathrooms are scary. but who cares?! almost every time i've gone there they've played prince's 'raspberry beret'. & that's enough to make me happy. if i was just going there to get drunk and sit in the SUPER crowded bar area, i might hate it too. but i don't! and i always have so much fun. i seriously have never had a bad night at delirium. so if you care more about dancing than you do about drinking, delirium is the bar for you. read more

delerium doesn't try to be something it isn't. they don't church themselves up with fancy stools or clean floors or even classy beers. the bartenders would just as likely serve you a can of tecate as much as simply glare at you for even attempting to order a drink. it's like that slutty girl in high school everyone knew that, if you simply asked, she'd probably blow you in the janitor's closet. there are no lies here. no deceptions. when you walk in the door, you understand you're going to be drinking PBR, inhaling smoke, having your credit card ignored, dancing with sweaty people, sitting in spilled beers, stepping on what-the-hell-was-that?, getting your clothes scrutinized for levels of authenticity, and probably seeing about twenty people you know. it's a dive bar, people. in the mission. this isn't the ambassador. quit getting so heated over it. and quit hating on the hipsters. they're a harmless breed. it's the bikers ya gotta worry about. they'll cut ya. read more

If Dalva is the generic swanky bar of 16th St, Delirium is its generic trashy bar counterpart. And while I do love the punk rock soundtrack here, let's face it, you can get a way more charismatic version of the black-walls-and-grafitti scene at Lucky 13. Anyway, as 16th St patrons go, I'm definitely on the yuppier end of the spectrum, and with so many bars to choose from, I don't see much reason to include Delirium on a typical visit here. read more
