The Lutheran Tower elders came, off course they was complaining like elderly people do. But they was searching hard to find something negative. Decatur's best kept secret!!! I almost didn't stop, but I'm so glad I did! When driving by the building is small for a restaurant and the parking lot was full, I didn't think there would be seating and was turning around, but the 5 star rating made me change my mind. Although it's been a couple of weeks since I've eaten here, I'm finally able to write my take on my experience here. Sorry for the delay, but I've been super duper busy with the move and haven't had the time to do anything for months. I came around 8:30am, and it wasn't too crowded but there still were a nice amount of people there. Decent parking. Could get tricky to cross the street when leaving if it's during the morning rush hour. I decided to dine in..alone..sure did! I sat right by the counter and was immediately tended to. I had a coffee, nothing fancy, water, two scrambled eggs, bacon, grits and biscuits. Everything was tasty and the price was beyond reasonable. You will definitely have a full belly for what you're paying for, unless your belly is the bottomless pit. All in all, this is a low key, unpretentious establishment that will have you all warm and fuzzy on the inside in a good way. But that isn't what prompted me to write this review. When I got back to the restaurant, the lady at the cash register who's name escapes me at the moment, is standing there holding the food and says, "Nikole are you missing a sandwich?" Thinking to myself, "now you know I'm missing a sandwich. I'm not back here for my health. I proceed to the front counter and said, "Yes, and now I have an attitude." SHE HAD THE NERVE TO ASK ME WHY!!! Well, let's talk about it shall we? 1. I live in Lithonia, Demitri's is located in Decatur (15-20 min drive one way) 2. I got home to discover my food was missing (yeah, I could've checked the bag before leaving but I didnt) 2. I had to drive ALL THE WAY BACK TO DECATUR to get my food 3. They definitely need to hire more help because there was only one waitress servicing the whole restaurant. You probably would be better off going to Waffle House. The atmosphere was uninviting as if we were a bother. We had 3 adults and 3 kids, but they would not accommodate us and made us sit at a rinky dink 4 top table with 2 kids in high chairs and only 1 needed a high chair. This caused my 3yo to cry out because of course he is a big boy a way out of a high chair. No course of action taken as far as customer service. The food was not bad, ok at best. The eggs, when asked for scrambled, were partially scrambled and then fried, but not done in the middle. When asked about them, the response was that's how they cook them. I ordered a veggie omelette with bacon and it was fresh, but I asked for feta only if it was pasteurized and when the server asked the cook, he shrugged and said I don't know. The French toast was good, the fried chicken filet was lacking seasoning, the hash browns were way undercooked and the coffee sucked! The water was stronger than the coffee. For 75 dollars we could have eaten at Waffle House 3x and had an overall better experience. I tried this place after living in this neighborhood for 10 plus years, always passing with curiosity. This may be one of the funnier lunch experiences I've had lately. I don't know what it was that made us turn the car around and have lunch here. It's a cute lil place, really. Covington Hwy is a very strange place. Think about it if you've ever been down this road. The places that greet you along this trail are Mama's Country Showcase, which back in the day was where all the whities went for bikini contests and Monster truck shows. You're also welcomed by a strange place called the Cave, which it looks like at one time you could have gotten some transmission work done while getting sh*tfaced at the bar. So, no surprise that Demitri's is located here. When we walk in the door, there is an interesting mix of old folks here. And when I say old, I mean damn old. Each table had a space heater, tho it was a good 60 + outside. Most of the clientele was either in a wheelchair, walker, or on oxygen. We were, in fact, the only pedestrians that were under 75. The food. What can I say about the food? It was cooked to death. The food was so over cooked that it wasn't edible. And the greens? What the hell happened to the greens? Yes, they were overcooked AND had garlic in them. These greens were cooked as if some white guy from New York had cooked them. Not good. The place is cute, tho. After checking the menu, I ordered the vegetable omelet which comes with a biscuit and grits and my husband ordered the western omelet with toast. I don't care for the biscuits and grits so I just eat the omelet. Although it had more oil than necessary, it was very good. I tasted the biscuit and grits but found the biscuit to be heavy and dry while the grits were overcooked and a bit mushy. Now let's be clear, the grits were the standard "Georgia grits" that Georgians may describe as good. However, I prefer my grits with more substance and seasoning. My husband enjoyed his omelet and hashbrowns but was not really satisfied because the meal simply was not substantial enough. If you have a good appetite and like a substantial meal without a lot of greasy, unhealthy options, this is not a good choice for you. I prefer a more varied menu with healthy options and lots of green vegetables. It was okay just not my choice. *** After finishing your meal, your bill is not delivered to you. I have lived in this area my entire life and this is my first time visiting here. Such a shame because this place is a gem. We normally do to waffle house on Sundays but no more. The food here is simple, fresh, filling, and delicious! The service is fast and friendly. The prices are perfect and extremely affordable.
