Denny's is always a sure thing for large portions and budget friendly breakfasts. The good thing is that at the time we went there were no waiting lines. We immediately got served and our waitress was overall friendly. Although for no apparent reason she took forever for coffee and water refills but super quick on bringing the bill. I ordered I think what is called the wild west omelette as all the ingredients seemed delicious. However, the included jalapenos seemed to be the nacho pickled ones which added an odd flavor when fresh ones would have been great. The hash browns not toasted or browned but mushy and almost like they were steamed. My Mother an elderly woman specifically asked that she was looking for a senior citizen ham and eggs of some sort. As my Mother has been wanting that simple dish for some time. The waitress wrote something down and low and behold a lumberjack slam of some sort arrived. Where my mother replied, I dont see the ham. It was a sliver hidden under sausage links. And the tapatio bottle she brought was definitely a lit more watery then the hundreds of bottles I go through at home. It had been approximately 12 years since we last ate at a Denny's, so today we decided to give them another try after having our SUV serviced in Van Nuys. NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE. Sure our server was very nice, and the space was welcoming enough. But for some reason, we both settled on the 13 oz. T-Bone Steak. Now mind you, my lemonade was out-of-this-world! Fresh squeezed and refreshing. My choice of sides were quite decent; Skinless Red Potatoes and especially the cheese and jalapeno infused Creamed Corn. And our Garlic Bread was delicious. But that T-Bone Steak prepared medium was tough! Cutting through it was like cutting through rubber. The same toughness can also be said for my wife's T-Bone (medium well). But worst of all for my wife was her displeasure with her frozen and mushy broccoli, and overly salty mashed potatoes straight out of a box. My possible 2.5 stars consideration dropped down to a 2 star rating real quick. The server graciously apologized once she finally came back around to our booth, maybe 5 minutes later. So my wife's plate was immediately removed and replaced with another several minutes later, and believe it or not, that was the most tender and best tasting of all 3 T-Bones. And yes, it was prepared medium well also. Hit or miss steaks here, with your odds more likely to be a miss. She also requested the creamed corn this time around. The quality of food at this specific location (along with the entire Denny's franchise as a whole) has decreased significantly. The food itself doesn't even look appetizing, and on top of that, the prices of each meal have steadily increased, which makes me less and less inclined to order from them. I ordered the dinner entree version of their country fried steak, which was incredibly small, and the side of mashed potatoes quite literally tasted like it had been made with tap water. The side of corn just looked like vomit -- not exaggerating. I love this Denny's. They're always so punctual and efficient on your order. The atmosphere is really down to earth. Most of the crowd are senior citizens and young families Who make it for a pleasant environment. There is never any wait time and they practically let you choose your own seating. I personally love the breakfast but my wife and son love dinners it's two against one so I guess I lose. I particularly love to go to Denny's this time of year because they roll out the holiday menu. It's full of all the Thanksgiving favorites and delightful desserts. The turkey and cranberry with stuffing and mashed potatoes omg... I thought it was at my parents house for Thanksgiving all over again. The turkey was cooked perfectly and the cranberry sauce complemented it very well. The broccoli was steamed to a semimushy have crunchy state so there was a well-balanced there. I refused to let the waitress take it off her tray as I could have sworn I saw that same soup hurled up on the sidewalk last week. I'm not sure if this Denny's is having a shortage on napkins and utensils, but that is something we were not provided throughout our meal. The rest of the food was as if I went into my 90-year-old grandmas freezer and took out the most expired thing I could find and threw it on a plate. Save yourself the trouble and eat elsewhere or just don't eat. Oh and lastly, I don't recommend being parent of the year and getting your kid a toy from the front.
