Ok. I've been to this Denny's a couple of times to form an opinion. This restaurant serves decent food. I like dining on vegetable omelettes so I ordered one. Included in this review, I will tell the reader of how to create a vegetable omelette: 1. Beat the egg until smooth (or one can use the liquid egg mix from a carton). 2. Pour the beaten (or mixed liquid) egg and lay it on the grill. 3. Fry the vegetables on another part of the grill. 4. The flatten egg creates a bed that wraps around the vegetables. Which leads to .... 5. Place the cooked vegetables on the side of the bed of the flatten egg. Leave a part of the egg free to cover the vegetables. 6. Flip the free side of the flatten egg bed to cover the vegetables. 7. Serve the omelette with a side of hash brown, and with an English muffin on the side or bread of one's choosing. Simple and easy enough? Ok. This time, for some reason, the chef decided to cover the vegetables with the flatten egg. Placed it on top. The flatten egg does not wrap around the vegetables. Totally ignored the steps. I wonder if the chefs decided not to follow the rules on purpose. This did not happen just once. But twice. I think one can learn from the mistakes the first time around. No. When the mistake occurred again, I tried to keep my cool. The wait staff and managers came up to me to see if the omelette was made correctly. The second server who delivered the omelette came over and asked, "Do you need anything else?" I said, no. Even the other patrons felt and saw something was wrong. Our original server, Kathy, asked if the omelette was better. I said no - the same mistake happened.... again. Kathy told her manager about this issue. 2 managers approached me. I told them about what happened. Both explained to me the protocol. Exactly. What. I. Wrote. Both times they took the "omelette" back. I needed to wait for another 15 minutes for my plate (which added up to 40 minutes in wait time for food service.) I gave an extra star to the wait staff for their tiredless efforts. I wish I can give more.... but with the wait time on the food, and the return on the item.... it gets 2 stars. I understand that in the food service industry, it comes down to a high turn over with food leaving the kitchen quickly. It shows that this Denny's has a solid customer base. However, one needs to follow the correct protocol in preparing food. read more

And boom food came out hot and timely! She was one of the best and fastest waitresses I have seen in a long time. Took plates dropped off bill didn't even have to ask. We have been to this Denny's many times & have enjoyed a good meal & good customer service. This time was different. We are in the middle of a pandemic & we were impressed with how well Denny's is handling the Covid-19 protocols. They have a separate entry & exit door. They require you to show proof of vaccination & identification. They have limited capacity also. Our waitress TINA was excellent. She is very friendly & made sure to interact with each of her tables. They were busy but she made sure to acknowledge each table. The Manager was very visible & made sure staff were doing there best to follow protocol but also to make sure customers left satisfied. This place is attached to our hotel and our room was not ready for check in so we came here since my daughter was not in the mood to walk around. We waited a couple minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Then the host came too seat us and ask if a table is ok but then seated is at a booth. Which was what we wanted and it was nice that it was by the window so we could look out and people watch while waiting for our food. It was interesting that the kid's meal didn't include a drink. We had ordered a kid's Mac and cheese with grapes for a side but the grapes were so sour that my daughter wouldn't eat them after trying three bites. Our other daughter ordered spaghetti with a side of bacon. We ordered a zesty nachos for appetizer and I thought the beef was going to be crumbly and not a sauce where it was runny. I wish there could be more pico and I thought the avocado came with it but there's was an extra charge for about a tablespoon of little chunks. The ultimate omelette had more sausage than expected. I was hoping for more veggies in it. The food is what you would expect for a chain and service was ok. We were not offer for water refills. When we needed something we had to wave someone down. Overall, it was quick and we were hungry. It's nice that it's conveniently located right next to our hotel so we will be visiting again before we head home if we are lazy to venture out with our girls. read more

Growing up on the mainland, there are just so many great independent diners that we never had a need to try a place like Denny's. Coming to Hawai'i, especially Waikiki, you're always looking for places with good food at an affordable price, which is exactly what you get here! Denny's is located at the end of Lewers Street near the Halekulani Hotel and beach beyond. It's simple to walk here from anywhere in Waikiki. Good luck parking, the only places around are expensive and/or valet. The diner is open 24/7, which is perfect when you want something wholesome at any hour. Breakfast is always available. The menu is chock full of skillets, breakfast items, sandwiches, hot plates, sides, drinks, and desserts. The only gripe is the food never looks as heaping or perfect as the pictures. Everything tastes good though. Meat quality isn't super perfect, there is fatty or hard to chew pieces of steak in the skillets. Otherwise, we've loved everything we've had: pancakes, club sandwiches, french fries, soups, and many others. Be sure to check out the senior menus (including 15% off the entire bill with AARP card), and keiki menus for the little ones. It's perfect for the whole family, everyone will find something they enjoy. Regardless, prices are very reasonable for food portions, especially in Waikiki. We've had mixed service here, sometimes fantastic, fast, and funny, other times all but absent. Same goes for the host stand when checking out. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, the restrooms well cared for. The seating is cozy and comfortable, with booths and tables available. They have big windows open to the street, perfect for people watching. It's steadily busy all day, but you'll be seated and served quickly. Worst Denny's I've ever been to! I was so disappointed since it was so close to the hotel. This was going to be our breakfast spot while in HI. We went the first day for dinner after a long flight and for the convenience. The host was abrupt, scruffy-looking, and completely lacked in customer service skills! "How many?" We replied "two". He grabs 2 menus and walks off! No "follow me". He slaps the menus on a table and walks away! The server was nice but overwhelmed. Seems like every location we've been to only has 2 servers, a cook or two, and maybe a host. I ordered T-bone steak and eggs. She comes out with everything except the steak. Said it was still cooking! Well, why didn't they cook that first since that takes longer?! When it finally does come out, it's a Sirloin! Sever says she didn't hear me say T-bone and didn't know which steak I wanted, so SHE chose the sirloin. Well, ASK! What a experience!!! Early morning around 2am we went down to order kids meal ( to go) at Denny's. In the restaurant reception while placing order, I will pay via card, the order taker ( kemo ) said " no tip? your food order will take longer " I was shocked!!!! I just told him, I was just here yesterday and I put my tip cash separate not with card. I actually even over tip because yesterday's service was great . I'm surprised that you were asking for a tip now .... I never experienced any server asking directly for tip before the service. He said " I'm just joking " ..... Signed in for 2 people and the guy at the front says 20 mins- mind you the place wasn't even busy and there was alot of empty seats. So we said ok. Waiting outside for about what seems like over 20 mins a group of family walks in and they get called before us. So I go inside and the same guy tells me 45 mins and sign in. Seriously, I tell the guy I signed in a while ago and check the clipboard and my names crossed out. Wth, no one even bothered to come outside or call that they have a table ready for us. To make matters worse, the guy seats us in the counter and not even once does any of the workers acknowledge us and offers us something to drink after another 20 mins of waiting. I swear we were literally seating right in front of all of them where they would pass. Another 20 mins of waiting again and still no one came and asked if we were serviced. Now we're rethinking if we want to continue to seat and wait to be ignored or get out of this terrible restaurant. Never again!!! This location sucks or it's just the staff. It was a Saturday night, and me and a neighbor decided to do a little night fishing at Waikiki. The fish weren't biting and it was past midnight, so we decided to pack it up and call it a night. We've been out for a good 5 hours, so we were pretty hungry. Most of the other places are closed, so we decided to stop by at Denny's on Lewers Street to do a little take-out. It wasn't busy at all. Maybe a little less than 3/4 full. I walk in and there's a group of people waiting to be seated. The host / hostess is nowhere to be found. I head to the restroom, wash my hands and when I came out, the people were still waiting. Fast forward another 5-6 minutes, and a guy comes up and takes the people to their seats. These seats were open from the moment we walked in. I could understand the wait if it were a full house and we were waiting for a table to open up. But that's not the case. It's been vacant the whole time. As if that wasn't bad enough, it took another 5 minutes or so for the person to return to help me. I put in a short stack buttermilk to go, and went outside to relieve my fishing buddy who was outside watching our gear. He walks in, and a group of people followed. They wait around 10 minutes and instead of helping my friend, the host gets the group that came in after to seat them. My friend is left waiting and he's not as patient as I am. He comes outside, absolutely livid! Another customer walks out saying "This place is ripe for a dine and dash!" He is absolutely right. That was exactly what we were saying. I understand that it's hard to find good help, especially during these tough pandemic times. But the reception / cashier area should be manned at all times. They cannot be reception / waiter / buss boy / expediter and cashier. Doordash comes in to pick up his order. He comes out, checks his ticket and leaves, but he comes right back after a couple of minutes, runs in, runs out.....and I don't know what that was about. My guess is something went wrong, so he's going out to deliver what he's got and come back for the missing item. Another 5 minutes of waiting and my order is up. My friend is in no mood to order from this location, so we grab our gear, start up our bikes and head back. I kinda felt bad for him at first..... But after opening the container in my apartment, a sweet fragrance filled the room. It wasn't unpleasant, but it was a warning of what I was about to taste.... When we arrived, while waiting to be seated, while there was only one other table, the waiter who came to Cetus was extremely rude.! After sealing us he continued to be rude. In fact, he was so rude that when it was time for our food to come out, we just asked for it to go. The service was absolutely horrible. The food wasn't that great either very disappointed as I've always love to eat at Denny's. Unfortunately, we will never eat at this Denny's again due to such a horrible experience being there was only one other table in the entire restaurant. As far as Denny's goes, this place is one of the best. I am pretty picky when it comes to breakfast stuff. I asked for my hashbrowns crispy, my eggs over medium, bacon chewy but not undercooked and my Choconana pancakes on a separate plate. Everything came out perfect and our server was amazing.
