On a Sunday morning, you expect to wait for a few to be seated, not to mention served. Our party of 7 was seated immediately and our waitress Amanda L. was simply amazing. She was VERY friendly, polite, respectful and prompt. She took our order within minutes of being seated. Our food was served shortly thereafter and it was HOT, not warm but hot. Amanda also had a great sense of humor, something that's nice to see in what one could only imagine is a stressful environment. FANTASTIC job Amanda! Service was nothing but abysmal. The man who seated took a while to actually seat us, and why it took a while was because he was angry because they were short staffed . When we were seated it was like a 100 yard dash to the table. Never even said hi, and told us are waitresses name. Just threw the menus down and ran somewhere else. Then after a while our waitress finally comes to help us. Says what are you having, and then takes out drinks, and leaves. Minutes later we finally get our drinks then we order an appetizer, she looked dissatisfied because we didn't order our entrees yet. She then left, and came back yet again what felt like forever with the appetizer, and then I asked her for a water, and she left again with out any acknowledgment that she heard me, came back with the water and then took our dinner orders, I had asked for country fried steak, and then she thought I said country fried chicken and I responded with I said the country fried steak then scolded me saying that she needs to know the difference and that I need to make up my mind, had to tell her that I under stand, and that I wanted the country fried steak, took the orders of the other people I was with, and never took a minute to see what else we needed. We stopped here before when visiting Vermont from New York. My husband remembered how delicious the burgers were. He ordered a burger on our recent visit and again rated it very good. My veggie burger although flavorful was I am sure a Pre made frozen pattie. What made me give the Rutland Denny's a 5 star was the service. The hostess greeted us as if she was happy to see us. Our waitress , KATIE, was great. She had another 6-7 tables besides us. She greeted everyone with a smile and took everyone's order correctly and fast. Food was delivered again with a smile. The Denny's closest to me closed last year. So I was surprised to find one during my vacation. However I was extremely disappointed... We waited to be seated for 15 minutes. The menu has gotten more complex and isn't as easy to order. When I did...they messed up on my substitution. Also my fries were bone cold. My guest said his coffee was also cold and his chicken was too seasoned. The waitress was apologetic but seemed stressed and rushed (I dont think they are used to it being this busy). Overall. Tonight's experience is more or less an omen to maybe as to why the franchise is severely struggling. Complex menu...poor guest/customer service...and underwhelming food on your plate :/ read more

Well, talk about a case of "When in Rome..." At Denny's in Vermont, real maple syrup as an option! I know it's just a little thing, but man, what a different experience from that high fructose corn syrup with a tan. There's a small upcharge, but you get 1 1/2 ounces of the real stuff in a little sealed cup, which is more than enough for two or three pancakes. Mmm, definitely made my morning. When I first walked into Denny's, the staff greeted the 5 of us very friendly. We sat down and waited very little for our food. When we got our food it was great. My little brother even went to say that it was his favorite restaurant. Everything was so clean too, it really was a once and a lifetime experience. I ordered a cheeseburger. My Mom ordered a salad. My older brother and my Dad ordered a burger too, and my little brother got a grilled-cheese. The cheese on my burger was melty and delicious. The patty cooked to perfection. I could hear the crunch of my mom's salad, but she got full and took the rest home. My older brother and my Dad ate their whole burgers ( so must have been good). My younger brother didn't like his grilled-cheese. So we ordered him something else (chicken fingers). As we walked to our car, we all agreed to coming back there. Dennys had a very casual look, but I didn't care too much what Dennys looked like because I was paying attention to eating my food. I've had better. And I've had better at THIS Denny's. It seemed like the entire staff was just off. We were seated and waited several minutes until one server told another she had not got to our table to get our drink order and had not got another tables order. That other table had waited so long the had finished their drinks. We ordered apps and everything looked sloppy. Nachos and cheesesticks. I don't know if they microwaved the cheesesticks or if the just weren't fried long enough. They weren't even warm enough to call lukewarm. My son got a new to the menu burger and the grease made the bun soggy. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with mushrooms. They forgot the mushrooms. It was just a bad experience overall. read more

Denny's is defiantly a great hangout place for friends, especially since its open 24 hours. I have had very good food, but also undercooked food. I have gotten cold coffee before and sometimes the staff doesn't even care to even fill my cup. I have had pancakes that still had the batter coming out of them. But yet, I have had days where they filled my coffee 2-3 times, and it was fresh. Everything was cooked to perfection, and service was great. Can't rate the food as we were never seated. Waited about 15 minutes while three employees made eye contact but never said a word to us. Then they proceeded to talk and gossip behind the counter. The one person who actually said something to us was another customer seated at the counter who proceeded to tell us that there was only one cook and she was waiting for an hour and a half without any food. So we come here to Denny's in Rutland Vermont often. Over time the service seems to be falling apart. We were here on 1-9-2020 and the speed of the service was very slow and we had five people in our party that night and two of us got meals that were not as ordered and missing parts of what we requested. So tonight 1-17-2020 we came here with a party of 4 and all four of us had meals the were missing parts or were incorrect after strongly stressing how we wanted them. I am not sure if there is a lack of training or if there is a lack of caring for what the customers have ordered. Pleasantly met at the front door by a manager who was mopping the floor at 7:30an on a Saturday morning when it would have been much better to have been done before opening at 6 am and the floor looks like a steam clean is a few years overdue as it is. I ordered poached eggs, Hollandaise on the side, crispy hash browns and sausage links as well as coffee. Not a tall order you might say to yourself....... Oh I forgot to mention there were 2 managers and 2 waitstaff as well as 2 cooks and maybe a dozen patrons so service was definitely prompt and attentive but all you could hear the whole time there was the staff chatting about things that the patron doesn't want or shouldn't hear...... really annoying then on top of the background chit chat I hear about 3-4 times in the BOH " crispy hash browns " like it's a novel orderthen the food arrives .... Poached eggs where good except the water in the bottom of the monkey dish, the Hollandaise was ok just met expectations so far..... now those crispy hash browns where so dark and crispy that they lost all recognition regarding any taste left in them and the link sausages where unrecognizable as they had been floating in the deep fryer until their color was mahogany, shriveled and tasteless as well so with the addition or plenty of ketchup I managed half the plate probably because I had been up since 2 am after dropping a relative off at Albany airport, oh I did get a pleasant good bye as well as the military discount if this is helpful and the coffee was hot and decent...... read more

The food was ok, my husband had the senior turkey dinner with a smoothie, I had the cobb salad which had a lot of lettuce but also other veggies, hard boiled egg and avocado which was close to being past it's prime. None of the staff had masks on, the restaurant itself was not very clean, the cushion in our booth had a huge rip. Our waitress was very pleasant but so overworked that when we wanted to leave, she didn't have time to come over to give me a container for my leftovers and our bill. We asked someone else to get her, it was still a long time after before she finally came. She apologized - but not her fault - there seemed to be a number of other people working behind the counter and not that busy - they should have helped her with her tables. When we paid our bill and were asked how everything was - I complained about waiting so long and was told, "Well, we are busy." Not, oh I'm sorry, we need more help etc. Also, my husband said that he didn't get cranberry sauce with his turkey dinner. The man at the register asked to see our receipt so he could tell the person in the kitchen to make sure the next people get it - hmm, that doesn't help my husband who didn't get it and couldn't ask for it because the waitress was overworked. If I could give zero stars, I would! We'd had a long day and just wanted some hot, simple food for a late dinner. We found that Denny's had online ordering, so we took the time to very specifically find (The online menu needs some help, IMHO) and order things for pick up...A salad, a couple'a burgers, a sam'which....Easy Breezy, right? 15 minutes and it will be ready? COOL! This is GREAT! WELL...not so much. When we got there to pick up our order....nothing was ready. Had to wait, and wait, and WAIT. We FINALLY got our order, after alternately being largely ignored and being told "it'll be up soon!" ...and when we got it home, an entire entree was missing! So, after insisting that we start w/out her, our host went BACK to Denny's to retrieve the missing meal. In the meantime, the rest of us started eating...which after all this time, was a disappointment- this sandwich was cold, that burger was lukewarm but over-cooked and dry, etc etc etc. We were starving so we ate what we had while our host's food got even more cold. When she arrived back at Denny's, the missing item was there, warm & toasty and waiting for her (sooo obviously just done, since everything else had been chill-to-lukewarm). Speaking of lukewarm, the apology received from management and staff was lukewarm and ungenuine...just like my love for this location. Stressful, ridiculous and disappointing...avoid this spot and hit up the Ninety-Nine across the road or 5 Guys down the road in the other direction, instead. service was great i went during the morning so i can't speak for the other shifts but i had a great experience at the denny's in Rutland. i have been to other denny's and by far this has been the best one i have been to the food came out in a timely manner. our waitress was on top of everything we may have needed. can't remember her name but it was like a liqour name going of subject. but it was a great place and good for any budget. I was even more surprised by the manager going around and asking how everyone was doing you don't see that very often. i will be stopping in at denny's any time i come to Rutland now. read more
