As you walk towards the door, you can't help but notice the restaurant is in bad disrepair and hasn't been fixed in a long while Even the door looks old and worn out and what can I say of the tables and booths. There was only one hostess-server for about 8-10 tables and she was taking care of the register, the orders, and table cleanup. There can only be one reason for this and it's that they are cutting work hours on other employees and piling up the work the poor ones that are left. He did an awesome job waiting on our large group and was always respectful courteous and had our food served in a timely manner. My go to spot when I'm craving something sweet and savory for breakfast . usually come with the kids and husband . food is always good. I have noticed that the prices have gone up since Covid I do like that they are offering delivery, pick up and curbside . I would've given them five stars but the last time I ordered curbside from here I guess curbside is not an option even though it's on the website . when I got to the restaurant and called the phone number waited outside about five minutes . called over and over and over again , no one would pick up . I cannot say that the restaurant was busy because I was the only car in the parking lot and when I ended up going inside I was the only customer there. Look, many reviews are showing the same feeling, we all enjoy the food I see and we truly all enjoy and are thankful for the staff for being so upbeat! At night is when I go and that's when it can be busy with a lot of really rude people and it saddens me to see a lot of hard working servers trying their tails off just to be treated rudely by people who are drunk or just over all idiots. I always try to be nice and very understanding when they say that the wait for food will be about 30mins or however long, and that is ok! I always try to make the servers feel they are understood and heard because they amount of times I've gone in and heard the customers be disgustingly rude truly astonishes me. I don't mean to toot my own horn but everytime I go in I try to talk to the server and give 'em words of encouragement. This last time I went, I wish I had my receipt still but I tipped the guy $20, my bill only came out to $10 for some pancakes a side and a tea but knowing the bs he had to go through angered me. Also after talking to the manager he stated that some days are harder than others and they go home and cry with the stress these rude customers out on them and that's not ok with me. It's been years since I last ate at a Denny's, spending a night in San Antonio, my daughter and I agreed to eat here. We skipped the free breakfast buffet at our hotel so that might be saying something We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated immediately in a spacious booth. Michelle was our server, friendly and so outgoing, (even dealing with allergies)! We were desperately in need of some coffee, and Michelle was quick to fill our cups with our hot, caffeine fix. My daughter chose the Strawberries and Cream Pancake breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon. I chose the Belgian Waffle Slam, with sunny side up eggs, hash browns and bacon. In about 10 minutes at the most, our food came out. The Strawberries and Cream Pancakes looked like dessert for breakfast, which my daughter throughly devoured. She enjoyed them so much she wasn't able to finish all of her slam. My Belgian waffle was lightly crispy on the outside, and chewy soft inside, a bit of syrup made it perfect. My hash browns were nicely browned, and the sunny side eggs cooked with no sign of raw, runny whites. The bacon was crispy, no room for complaints! Most of the staff we saw at this location seemed really friendly. At the register, we were asked if we were Hurricane Harvey evacuees, (which we weren't). The establishment was giving discounts to those who had travelled inland, how nice was that?! This was our first time eating at this Denny's location. I had the strawberry crepe breakfast which included two eggs any style, strawberry vanilla crepes, bacon, and hash browns. The crepes were really good. My fiancé ordered the lumberjack slam, which included two eggs any style, bacon, sausage links, ham, hash browns, and toast. I've been dining at this Denny's for years and for good reason. The food is always fresh and delicious and the food comes out in a timely fashion regardless of how busy it gets. On my visit, I had the Chicken and Gravy Biscuit Bowl and it was delicious! As the name implies, it was chicken and biscuits covered in white gravy, all of this with eggs on top and cooked how you like; my eggs were cooked over easy. The dish was delicious and filling. What a horrible experience I chose to walk to get bite since my vehicle was being serviced. I was ignored the the first hostess. The other one realized her mistake and was nice to seat me quickly. When I was seated the server said I haven't even gotten to the other table next to me. I told him I was not in a rush, the hostess took my drink order to assist the waiter. Okay, first, I walked in and there was no host/hostess, no signs, saying there would be no 9ne to help you; just no one around. I waited 5 minutes, I checked the time, and finally decided to use the men's room. Port-o-potties smell better, heck, an out house would smell better, than this restroom smelled. It smelled Horrible, and so I walked out and got in line, as a couple appeared while I was in there. Finally, a man walked to the front and spoke with the couple. After, I asked I I could sit at a certain table, but the man said no, and asked what my order was. I told him I just wanted to sit at a table before I ordered. He then told me he was only accepting "pick-up ordered". I asked him, to repeat himself, and honestly, had completely forgotten that all I really wanted was to report that their restroom smelled like a complete outhouse!! However, after waiting for 10 minutes through all of this, just to be told I couldn't even sit down, I had forgotten about my concern. I honestly asked him why on earth there wasn't at least a sign, stating that they weren't accepting customers? He said they were accepting customers, and we started the discussion. I told him, they were not, and they were only accepting call in orders. Regardless, this encounter happened after my 7 hour drive, a return from my "glorious" trip to Louisiana for the Christmas and New Year holidays; as if anything in Louisiana could be referred to, honestly at least, as a glorious thing. However, he didn't know that, but it did add to my disdain for the entire situation. My review is this: this Denny's is a nasty, unprofessional, establishment. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Denny's has became an "iffy" encounter to begin with. This encounter, at this Denny's, just cemented the fact that I will NEVER frequent another Denny's again. This place should be closed, just based on their restroom situation, and I couldn't even report it, because I was so taken aback by not even being able to be seated, without warning, that I forgot about reporting it. When she brought our drinks out, she placed them all down at one of the table and never handed them to each of us or said a word. We didn't get silverware until we asked three people for it and even then it only came one at a time, and after we already had our food. The food was alright but nothing I would recommend. So, to start off, my wife did not want to go here based on the current rating. I managed to talk her into it as a change from our usual place, and I'm glad I got her to go along with it. First thing when you enter you feel the warmth of the interior thanks to the updated features. We were sat almost right away, for being busy. Our waiter, David, greeted us and took our drink order. He was very polite and friendly. I ordered the cinnamon roll pancake breakfast. It came with two eggs, got mine over easy, choice of bacon or assuage, I got bacon, and hash browns. Overall the breakfast parts were done well, but the cinnamon roll pancakes were next level. Had pecans and the icing on top was so sweet! Almost a little too much icing though. While eating our waiter got three more tables, then the host asked if he wanted another and he took it! I feel like even with all those tables he never missed a beat. Overall some of the best service I've received in a breakfast restaurant ever, and it was a Saturday morning around 830am! Would definitely go back and try to get the same waiter. I asked my boyfriend to take me to Denny's tonight because I grew up really loving it (I'm from a small city where Denny's is one of the few places to dine in). He was a little hesitant because it's so late, but when we walked out he said "I can admit when I'm wrong. That was really great." Leo, even though it's so late at night, provided us with literally the best service we've received in such a long time. He was enthusiastic, attentive, and kind from beginning to end.
