Decided to try Denny's for breakfast awhile ago. Pros-- Nice inside , well maintained, clean etc. Better than a lot of restaurants out there. Con-- Ordered bacon and eggs. My wife and I laughed when I got my meal. The bacon was maybe 3 inches long .Where do you buy bacon strips that small anyway? Maybe they just cut them in half . Denny's must have very low standards (which surprised me actually). Any place that will serve it like that must have given up on caring and have no pride in themselves ). Shame. read more

Carnival of Freakishly Bad Service Hi, I tried writing a letter to Denny's. Their feedback page didn't work. So, I thought I'd add to Yelp, and see if they monitor for bad reviews - terribly bad reviews. This is the first time I've ever written a complaint letter to a restaurant, but my 11.19.23 experience was such a carnival of freshly bad service, I had to write it down, just remember all that went wrong. Since creating this list was most of the effort, I figured I'd share the experience and ask for your thoughts. My elderly Mom and I went to Denny's, Store #7388, 1140 Hillsdale Ave, San Jose, CA 95118. I used to meet a friend there with our kids for breakfast all the time and sometimes in the evening with a few scouts when planning Boy Scout camping trips. It was always a good experience. When we went regularly, the waitresses knew us and would just drop coffee on the table for my friend and I, as we got the kids organised to order. I understand it is hard to hire and everyone is understaffed and it is normal to wait a long time for a table and wait longer than before to order. I also know that a lot can go wrong in a restaurant and I'm one to let it slide. But when nothing goes right, I feel the urge to share. - Arrived around 11:30, behind two large parties. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated. - We sat for a really long time before I finally was able to wave down our waitress. Coffee used to come quickly. Not today, it took forever for coffee and water to be brought to the table. - Food never came, tables all around us, who ordered after us, all got their food. - When the manager walked by, I asked him to check on our food. He came back with food immediately and said it just came out of the kitchen. - He lied, everything was cold - but we were at Denny's for well over an hour at this point, so we just ate. - My toast never showed. Nobody walked by to check on us, so I couldn't' ask for my toast. - Nobody offered coffee refills in all this time, so I took my Mom's cup to the coffee station. At this point they said they would send someone over with more coffee. Which they did after a few minutes. - However, no water refill. - At this point, I didn't bother asking for my toast because we were through most of our meal. - Finally, someone walked by our table and asked for our check and a box for a leftover pancake. - I joked with my Mom that we'll never get a box, we should walk out with the plate and see if they give us a box at the exit. - The bill finally came. I had asked to substitute Swiss for Cheddar on my omelet, and they charged me $1.49! - I asked about the $1.49, it didn't make sense b/c I swapped cheese - not added cheese. They eventually came back and said they took off my Mom's $6.99 value slam, leaving the $1.49 cheese-change-charge. - On checkout, my mom showed her AARP card, they wouldn't take it b/c they already took off the $6.99! This actually resulted in almost no savings for me! - but I didn't want to wait for the manager to do the right thing. - The original bill before tax was about $35. If the $1.49 overcharge was removed and 15% AARP discount was applied, it would come out to about $6.50+tax savings! Thanks for the $6.99 to say you're sorry for the terrible experience. But I'd say this experience was worth more than $0.50 in credit. - Let's put a cherry on this disastrous Denny's experience. We walked out reflecting on how poorly this Denny's now operates and my Mom realized she forgot her glasses. She went back into the restaurant and to the table, grabbed the pancake plate and got a box from the front on the way out. They never brought the box. - 1 hour 43 minutes at a Denny's + the time to share why to avoid Denny's #7388 at 1140 Hillsdale Ave for a while. You definitely have a staff and training issue. - At least the staff lucked out. My Mom assisted in paying for breakfast and left an 18% tip. She said she only left 18% because the service was beyond poor. I know how hard your staff works, but that day, I would have not left a tip. 11/19/23, 1:23:34 PM, Order 309499. Table 43. Says Guests 3, but we were two. Is this acceptable for a Denny's? What are your thoughts? Thank you, XXXXX - LOL, your complaint website doesn't work either. This Denny's has nice outdoor patio seating as well as extra outdoor seating set up in the parking lot. The wait was not long to be seated and the waiter came and took our order right away and The food was ready pretty quickly. Two days ago I ate brunch at Denny's restaurant on Hillsdale San Jose. Just to taste their food, I ordered the original grand slam, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. As well as coffee. The pancakes fluffed up to about a half an inch there was two of them, and it filled the width of a plate. Grand slam was as good as I remember to eggs your way, two bacon, two sausage, all cooked to perfection. The biscuits and gravy I should've added more pepper, but they were good. Pancakes surprised me I thought they're going to be dollar size on my plate, but they were light and fluffy and so delicious. I love Denny's coffee so I ordered coffee and after one refill, my wait staff brought me a crafe of my own. My waiters name is Israel. He was very polite. He was attentive and other than cooking. He was managing the whole restaurant on his feet. I would definitely return to this restaurant because all that food I ordered was well under $20. And at another local small town restaurant I don't get out of that restaurant with breakfast under $45 Kids under 12 eat free from 4 PM to 10 PM. I'll be bringing my grandson next time. read more

I understand it covid. But the service had nothing to with covid. We were seated at a very wet table. 2 servers and I assume a manager too. One girl just passed right by us without saying anything we waited 25mins. 2 different group of people came in after sitting for 15 minutes. The 2 servers took they're orders. So I gave up. We proceed to leave when I so who I'm sure was the night manager on his cell phone I told him we were leaving because we weren't served. My family and I love coming to this Dennys even though it's further from our home than the Dennys that's just down the street because the workers here are super nice and they try their best whether it's busy or slow. Also, their manager, Chris, actually helps out their employees and doesn't just let them do all the work and that is what leadership is all about and he cares about his employees and having a good relationship with them. I also love how they decorate the place during the holiday seasons( Valentine's Day, Christmas, Cinco De Mayo,etc). I've never been to a Dennys that had inflatable decorations and I thoroughly enjoy it; it brings so much character! read more
