I had 'Straight Up Bourbon Steak' and 'Pumpkin Pie' delivered last night. I enjoy the bourbon sauce so I paid for extra. I received delivery and found no extra sauce or any bourbon sauce on the steak at all. A plain steak. I call and the employee says I can come back for the sauce. I'm sick, and in Santa Clara thus the reason having it delivered. The employee says 'Well what do you want me to do?'. I said, 'That's for you to tell me. I'm not your boss.' The employee tells me to call back and speak to her manager. So this is what blew my mind. I call back and the manager say's exactly the same thing. She told me that the cook forgot to put the sauce on and the extra as well. I already figured that out. Then the manager says come in during the week and we'll talk about it. What? It's quite simple making decisions. If the manager had said she would take off the price of the Pumpkin Pie on the order I would have been satisfied. But instead I've been asked to go to Denny's in person, for a meeting to haggle, creating additional inconveniences. Can anyone say poor customer service skills? Let's save time! I write a less than flattering review, and never patronize this Denny's again. Done. read more

The older man with the grey mustache barely got out the entrance before he lit up his cigarette right at the front door then started to walk off leaving a ton of cigarette smoke right where my baby and I had to walk through! I'm disabled, so we don't get out much. When we do, we usually go to Bill's Cafe because they have California Egg's Benedict, which is my favorite. After a long doctors appointment today, my husband and I stopped at Denny's on N. First Street (at Brokaw) in San Jose. Our servers name was Jose. Some people don't recognize servers until they have something to complain about, but Jose had an exceptional personality. He was very polite, yet added just the right amount of humor that brought smiles to our faces and it really lightened the heaviness of the day for us. For example, my husband asked, "do you have turkey bacon?" and Jose replied "I HAVE turkey bacon!" (It's so hard to type how he said it, but it wasn't the way most waiters would say it, with disinterest. He said it like he was excited to have what my husband wanted.) I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and he asked me if I'd like avocado on that. Avocado is one of the reasons that I like the California Benedict at Bills. I've NEVER been asked that at Denny's and never thought to ask. It was fresh avocado and so delicious and with Jose keeping the atmosphere so pleasant, we're going to make sure that we return to that Denny's (even though it's not the closest to us), because good hospitality is so rare to find in the hospitality market these days! read more

Denny's ain't what it used to be. Service is spotty at best and other than pancakes the food can be mixed... overcooked turkey, undercooked French toast, and overtly salty chicken noodle soup. I guess in a pinch Denny's is okay but IHOP tends to be consistently better. read more

Not sure why Denny's has such a bad rating but the food I've had here is good enough that I return. I came to this one and ordered the nachos to start and the country fried steak. The country fried steak was decent quality-- I've had better gravy though. Nachos were great. (Didn't order it this time but my favorite is still the prime rib steak salad from denny's) read more

Bad experience here earlier today. I came in with two others, and we had to wait 30 minutes before we were seated. This was a bit upsetting, but I guess Friday mornings are popular? Not sure. Anyhow, after having to wait as long as I did, we eventually got to be seated. When we sat down, our order was placed and that took 45 minutes, which was absolutely insane! There was 12 people waiting to place their names on waiting list to be served, and 4 other people waiting for door dash orders- no one responded to any of the customers waiting to get names on waiting list! My car was broken into while using the bathroom, my luggage and computer bag was stolen while parked right in front of the restaurant on 11/8. Call the Manager today to check and see if the record footage of people entering and leaving, she stated this Denny's doesn't have any cameras. Put your personal belongs in the trunk or take them into the restaurant with you. This Denny's bathroom was clean, I give them 4 stars on that. read more

Gave me rotten meat on my salad. It actually smelled. Placed an order by phone had server repeat order to make sure it was correct and even after reading back they got it wrong. Unfortunately didn't see that until I had walked back to my hotel. They are conveniently located but will never use them again. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I got 2 all American slams and found hairs in the eggs. Unfortunately I didn't notice until I got home and began do digg in my food because I took it to go. I threw away the hair and the food and went back to the restaurant, to complaint and ask for a refund. They denied to give me a refund because I didn't take the food back and with out even asking me to leave the manager called the cops on me when I asked her I wanted to see the policy that said I couldn't get a refund if I did not have the food. Very very bad. I ordered sieloin steak, rare. I got this little, hard brown thing that was so tough it was impossible to chew or cut with the plastic "to go" knife. The little that I could hack off was flavorless. No marbling, must be USDA CRAP grade beef. The few slices os zucheeni that came with it as a side were old, but edible. The side of corn was canned corn thrown all over the box. I specifically requested salt and hot sauce. I got neither. After a couple bites I threw the rest away. Some Denny's locations might be better than others, but the food is basically the same. You cannot go wrong with the value menu, but I had a very specific breakfast meal in mind and Denny's thankfully can serve it up nicely. The Fit Slam is a good choice if you are focused on trying to limit calories and stick to a healthy meal plan. The egg white scramble is perfectly light and tasty (I add Cholula hot sauce and ground pepper w/ a pinch of salt for flavor). Turkey bacon is another good substitute. Instead of the English muffin and fruit that come with the meal, I asked to omit those and instead get a side of the honey wheat pancakes with sliced banana on top (ask for sugar-free syrup on the side). I scarfed down my food and enjoyed every bit of it. It was great to know I can eat out, get a decent meal that doesn't break the calorie bank. read more

Denny's is a classic American diner that serves classic American food. It is by no means a fancy place nor is it a spot you would take anyone for a date, but if you're someone like my hubby and I who are always down for something comforting and super simple, Denny's is the perfect spot to go to. Their extensive menu offers omelettes, burgers, sandwiches, and special breakfast skillets that will fill you up in no time. You'll have a hard time choosing what to eat because all of those pictures show some great-looking food. The decor of the restaurant looks like your typical diner with booths galore and a long counter-top for those eating solo. All of the waiters we have encountered so far have been extremely welcoming and friendly, so service is definitely a strong point here. For this specific lunch date, my hubby chose the meat lover's skillet that came with various types of sausage, roasted potatoes, and two eggs cooked sunny-side up . I chose the ultra omelette that came with mushrooms, green bell peppers, tomatoes, cheese, as well as an English muffin and a side of hash browns. Our food was served relatively fast and was steaming as soon as it hit our table. I could hear the sweet sizzle of meat from my hubby's skillet and the eggs looked like they were cooked perfectly. I had to have a bite of the sausages and were immensely surprised at how well-seasoned it was! You could really taste the herbs that permeated the roasted potatoes as well. My hubby certainly had no complaints and practically inhaled his food. As for my omelette, the eggs held up well and each forkful had a little bit of everything. The bell peppers had a good crunch and the cheese was super hot and gooey. However, I did feel that the omelette veered a bit towards the bland side and would have liked just a tad more seasoning. The English muffin was toasted well and the hash browns were crispy and golden. I can't say I was a big fan of the prepackaged jam at the table since it didn't go very well with the muffin, but I suppose it's more convenient that way. Denny's is a good place to go to if you aren't looking for something that will knock your socks off. Their food is decently made and it tastes as you would expect. Every now and then, you'll be caught off guard at how great something tastes, but most of the time, you're just left in a content silence as you chow down on typical American-style food. For us, Denny's elicits such fond memories of our many "Denny's runs" when we were college students who were always looking for something cheap and filling to eat. Perhaps our fondness for the diner stems from our happy memories of ordering pancakes at 2 o'clock in the morning or sharing an Oreo milkshake. But regardless of why, Denny's is a solid place to go to and I'm certain we will be back again soon. read more

Good company, good service.. and apparently a waitress that has been serving the group I was with for over the past 5 years. The food was good and what you would expect from a well operated Denny's restaurant. Nothing quite too special, though me and my party were in the back in a room that could be closed off for privacy (which was cool). I assume that space is used mostly for private events, meetings, or a for a birthday event. Nonetheless it was a nice breakaway from the normal dining experience at a Denny's. All-in-all, for a typical dining spot.. I would call it 3 stars... but rating it against other Denny's and similar restaurants? Very much more towards 4 stars. I'll be coming back here more often I think. read more

Not exactly sure how to rate this. It's a Denny's. You know exactly what you're getting into. Super cheap Grand Slams. They can be $5 if you know how to navigate the menu right (if this is one of your advertised skills, though, I feel somewhat sorry for you). The food comes out not looking anything like the delectable photos from the menu, but again, this is Denny's we're talking about. Eating at Denny's is perfectly fine. But the true shame is when you find yourself at one of these establishments when you're stone cold sober. It's just depressing. I would not wish that fate upon my worst enemy. This is a restaurant where you go after a night on the town getting completely wasted and then you have a sudden craving for obscene amounts of grease. This is where Denny's truly shines. The way they treat the inebriated is truly award-worthy. The sheer amount of patience that is required to repeatedly take orders from someone who can barely mumble or stay awake or could even start yelling and causing a scene at a moment's notice is inspirational. Maybe that's why the food is so awful normally; anything tastes amazing when you're smashed. Denny's gets the extra star just for being so drunk-friendly. read more

This has to be the worst Denny's in CA. My party of 3 arrived and waited to be seated, we were ignored by one waiter and were greeted a while later by a cook who said he'd seat us.....then he left us standing there while he went to take orders. We were finally seated and it took 15 minutes to put in our drink order, another 20 to get said drinks (2 coffees and one water) 15 more minutes to place our meal order, and we ended up leaving WITHOUT eating because we needed to get to work and the food was still not brought to our table after an additional 35 minutes. Always nice to eat at Denny's for their breakfast especially on their deals. I went for the regular slam substituting my pancakes for toast. Eggs cooked right as well as the sausage. I always like buttered toast to complement my meal. Instead of coffee, a cool coke to help wash it down. It fills me until dinner. read more

This is a great place to bring kids. There is a mix and match menu that is interesting for them. For bigger kids and adults the build your own burger is fun and tasty. I ordered a club sandwich and there was actually too much turkey in it. I had to remove some. Generally, the portions are not huge so don't expect left-overs. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. A good place to stop and eat when stuck in bad traffic and wanting to wait it out for a bit. We found the restaurant to be spotless and sparkling and the bathrooms were very clean. I had to work really late tonight, New Year's Eve 2016 into 2017, and so when I left work it was almost midnight! Feeling really hungry, I Yelped for a place near my location that was still open. This Denny's location was the first thing that popped up! Walked in and was greeted immediately and escorted to my table! The place only had about 3 tables occupied, so it wasn't too busy! The place looked pretty clean and well lighted! I ordered the Double Cheeseburger with Seasoned Fries. My order arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. The burger was HUGE and the fries was nicely cooked with a very crispy exterior! The burger was juicy and flavorful! The fries also had excellent flavor! That was a great meal! Take into consideration that I was really hungry and any food that I may consume under this condition might taste more delicious than it really is. But I'll still recommend the Double Cheeseburger with Seasoned Fries! The service that I received tonight was fantastic! Most important thing is the staff here is amazing! Everyone I cam in contact with which was about 5 employees. Where very friendly professional. As far as staff I've never been to a better Denny's. Ordered the gram slam San winch with no Sudafed. It can out in a timely manner at proper temperature. I've never had this item before. Very very salty. Will never get it again. The building is old but well kept and very clean. I arrived here @ abut 840am. The restroom was being cleaned. After about 15 min I asked when they would be done. The cleaner paused her cleaning so that I could use the restroom. Very nice. How ever my thought it. What would you clean at an hour when you know you have a lot of costumes coming in. This place has been a go-to breakfast diner for me since I was about 3 years old. My dad and I have great memories in Denny's all around the Bay Area, but this is the one we've been going to a lot lately now that we live in Santa Clara. Though the prices have gone up since I was 3, the dishes never fail my tastebuds! I used to get the Grand Slam, but now I can't even finish one omelette. The perfect meal for me is the $4 slam. I love the crispy bacon and the fluffy scrambled eggs. The waitresses are really nice and accommodating as well! We'll continue to go to this Denny's for as long as we're here in Santa Clara!
