It's Denny's, they vary but only slightly. I would say this Denny's was definitely a higher level than the others I've been to so, go them!!

I will cut right to the chase! Do yourself a favor and DO NOT eat here!! I can only say thank you to the new waiter in training the night we ate here. He was very apologetic about the almost 2 hour wait for our food. I asked him if he could bring us some french fries or anything to tide us over and he did just that. He brought us a small order of nachos on the house. The tortilla chips tasted stale but we didn't care since we were starving to death! Yes we should have just left but we stuck it out. The help at Denny's is pretty good. Food is not bad, the standards plates are priced reasonably. But the restrooms are continuously filthy. The help apparently is putting their used toilet tissue in a trash basket in the toilet booth. There was feces on the floor. The place reeked of filth and urine. The amazing thing is that all they have to do is walk down the street to a McDonalds or Starbucks and see how they do things in their CLEAN restrooms. Very unsanitary which makes you wonder how much disease is being taken back to the kitchen and back to the tables. Proper construction and excellent cleaning would make the situation completely different. My guess is everyone from management on down is too lazy to care. read more

I was really disappointed in their ultimate breakfast skillet. Besides the two eggs, everything was covered in cheese. Usually, I love to eat veggies but I ordered the skillet for the sausage but the dish was filled with mostly red and green bell peppers. The only things I liked was the fried cube potatoes. This was my first time at a Denny's (I know, how am I even American?). We weren't seated right away, which is annoying since there were millions of tables open, and I was looking at the staff. I see a lot of people on here putting my beloved Denny's through the ringer. Denny's has never claimed to provide Michelin Star quality food yet it seems that's what some people are comparing it too. Going to Denny's is always an "On a whim" decision for me but never have I been let down with the service or the food. I'm not expecting amazing quality from either but I am always treated very well and made sure I am comfortable and satisfied with my meal. The only time I'm disappointed from an encounter with Denny's is if I've eaten more than my weight in food and have to roll out of the booth. The worst Denny's I've eaten in. Very slow service, eggs frizzled, had to repeatedly ask for a glass of water.

My three year old daughter and I decided treat ourselves and to go out for an early dinner. She loves breakfast and I and wanted dinner so perfect place we thought. We are seated outside and it's freezing so we did grab our jackets then asked to have the heater by us turned on and our waiter seemed bothered by my request and says right away "The tank is empty. It doesn't work." There was only two other tables of two so it wasn't very busy but still I didn't want to make a fuss so I said "that's okay no worries." He did get it on and we were very appreciative. When I went to pay I saw a sign that said "kids eat free 4pm-10pm" he charged me and I didn't realize until I called back once I had my daughter strapped in her seat and he was very hostile and it took me by surprise. I was very friendly and was just wondering if it was a mistake or if it could help with the next person but when I let him know I was charged he said "well in that case YOU should have told us! I didn't know you got a kids meal!" Mind you he took the order and he is also the one who charged me. I was not given a receipt so I wasn't able to see the bill before paying he just told me the price and I paid. I've never been to a restaurant that doesn't give the receipt first this is very strange to me. I'm not confrontational at all and this is not about the money it's the principle. He could have handled this completely differently but had an attitude the entire time. If there's a sign up saying kids eat free why would you have to ask for it to be free I could see Mabey it being a mistake on a busy day with a huge party but it was just be and my daughter with about 6 people in the restaurant. The kicker was when I went back to talk to him HE WAS NOT WEARING A MASK & says "how about I just give you a free dessert next time you come in how does that sound" No thank you I won't be back. He definitely cooled off once my husband came in with me. I made sure to tell the guests walking in to be sure to tell him that they ordered kids meals before they pay. He May need more training because I am pretty sure he is the manager and a talking to about wearing his mask especially dealing with food. read more

I came in with friends around 9:00pm on Tuesday service was so bad , waited 15 minutes for a table got the table in the far back by the patio waited for sever , had no sever for like half hour , didn't get our drinks until like 9:48. Got our food like 20 minutes later my fried fish was burned not good at all didn't wanna make a seen so I just threw it away . I'm a bit confuzzled here. I don't understand why it has such a low rating.. The wife and I were in Santa Barbara this past Ides of March (March 15) to attend a Loreena McKennitt concert. When the concert got out, many of the places on State St's main drag were closed so we cruised around looking for a place to eat. We came across the Denny's and thought "why not?" I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. The food here was quite good and reasonably priced (esp. for Santa Barbara). Even at 11pm - the service we got from the waitress was attentive and friendly. It was kinda cool to find a place in Santa Barbara that was open 24/7 with decent good at a decent price.. Maybe we just came here on a great night, or others have come here on a bad day...expecting too much of the place. But come on.. its a DENNY'S!! Also, when we went...both the restaurant itself and the bathrooms were as clean as can be. The wife and I would certainly recommend it. read more

The only reason i keep coming here is because they are open late and I can usually get a table for a large bunch of friends.The service is usually great, They really try to accommodate our large groups of friends. But the prices of the menu are too high. Its freaking Denny's! Meals should not cost $10.00 here. Ever!! Plus i have issues with the inconsistent quality. i do like their specials menus as they sometimes have something good.but overall I always regret eating here the next day. First and foremost for me is when an invisible cloud of deodorizer that smells like, let's say, mutated urine, enshrouds tables near the rest rooms and sometimes beyond. My late father had an olfactory handicap, and he could rarely sense ambient odors and aromas. A weekday breakfast here nearly turned me green--with envy, too, that I didn't inherit his sometimes-blessed disability, and more's the pity in this smallish Denny's on Santa Barbara's storied State Street. In the kitchen, bacon's default doneness is droopy, and for pancakes is a barely tan hue. In defense of the chef, I didn't specify to the server how I preferred either. The eggs that I ordered over/hard were fried just-right. Coffee was what you expect from Denny's: workmanlike, but not McDonald's. Just to confirm my suspicions, I used the rest room and found its odor to be responsible for the restaurant's unpleasant first impression. After completing the investigation, I noticed that the door separating both lavatories from the dining area closed crookedly and never fully sealed. Fairness further requires reporting that nobody else in my party of four commented on the aforementioned air quality (but neither did I), and no other customers buried their noses and mouths under their top garments as I was tempted to do. So it certainly isn't the best component of the corporate empire, but now you'll get the joke if somebody says this Denny's is #1. (#200--took long enough) read more

I've always had excellent service here, time to time they accidentally gave me the wrong order but then I eat it and then they give me what I ordered and I only pay for one, what a steal. And you can't complain about the quality, this is Denny's it's like saying McDonald's food isn't fresh, wauu you are so insightful. I came to be fat and live the American dining experience and I get it everytime . The food is delicious, largely portioned, and cheap. I do have to tell them they got my order receipt wrong often but they've never challenged me, they happily change the receipt. Don't expect freshness but you get that feel good food in you still. I come here all the time, they don't even know I'm a regular but I'm the customer they deserve, not the one they need. read more

I hadn't been to this Denny's for many years since I used to live in Santa Barbara and to my surprise this time around we had a very pleasant experience There were 7 of us, including 2 kids. The waitress was nice enough to let us know that kids are free that day and at the time we were there. The waitress overall was awesome! She forgot a few thinks we had asked for, but redeemed herself by admitting it and being very funny about it. Our daughter accidentally spilled food and broke a glass and the waitress and the manager were very helpful in cleaning up the mess and did not look upset at all. My daughter freaked out and began crying, but the waitress was super nice and helped comfort her. Now the food, I ordered the Slamburger (I think that's what it's full name is), which is basically a breakfast burger. It came with hash browns, cheese, bacon and an egg cooked any way and a burger patty. I wish I would've taken a picture of it because it looked as good as in the picture. The meat was cooked just how I had ordered it (medium) and so was the egg. I really enjoyed it and the seasoned fries that I ordered with it. Nevertheless, I was very surprised at the awesome service and even more at the delicious food! read more

I do not like leaving bad reviews. I was shocked at the entire experience. I dont go to Denny's really, unless given no choice. Last night, it was our only choice. It was so bad, i wanted to cry. This spot has definitely improved! They did a nice remodel a year ago! SB has a shortage of just basic dinners. I started goto to Dennys more ever since the Original Farmer Boys closed. I read all the other complaints, wah wah wah. This place gets packed and service lacks and errors are made. But they make up for them all the time! The food and flavor is always consistent, the menu changes and get to try new things. I enjoy coming here and will continue to dine here. I would give 5 stars, but yes for errors I get myself, but they fix, I stil give a 4! read more

Conversation overheard between my brother's then-girlfriend and my father, upon her first time visit to Santa Barbara. Her: I can't wait to visit. Of course we'll go to Denny's? Him: There is no Denny's in Santa Barbara. Her: *shocked* What's a city without a Denny's?! Him: One with taste? Ah, those times have passed and tastes have changed. The girlfriend is gone, and we now have Denny's in Santa Barbara. There are other decent options to go to, but I understand that sometimes people need food made for them at 3 am and if Denny's is what you want, Denny's is what you can get. The food is perfectly standard American, there is nothing that stands out about this restaurant chain except its admirably strict guideline of being completely average. I come here for two reasons. One is if I have visiting relatives who are too afraid to deviate from their norms. The other is after camping in the desert where I've lived off of ravioli-os from a can for a week...and it's 3 am. The latter issue might really be more about needing something hot and protein-like than really opting for Denny's, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. read more
