They did keep asking me if I was good on time so I'm guessing since I said yes, they kept pushing my order further and further back. We arrived a couple of hours early for our inbound flight home from DEN. There's plenty of time to nosh on appetizers and have a couple of drinks. This was my third visit to the Denver Chophouse. The restaurant and bar are both packed. We find two free barstools and squeeze through a sizeable group of weary travelers. A friendly female bartender greets us with a beautiful big smile, despite the fact that she has a mass of thirsty and hungry clientele. I feel so remiss and disappointed at myself for not asking for her name. She was terrific! I start off with a glass of wine (Cabernet Sauvignon). For some reason, a drink at the airport is so much more enjoyable than let's say your neighborhood bar, or from home. Hey, there's always a reason for a good drink when you're at the airport. We nosh on fresh tasting calamari, which is lightly fried...Yum. But wait, the tower of onion rings arrive! Jumbo-fried sliced onions, kind of sweet tasting and delicious! If you love onion rings like I do...you got to order this appetizer. The order is huge, so you can share them with your travelling companion and travelers that you just met sitting at the next barstool (like I did on this trip). Ok, I admit that I don't fancy airport eateries very much, but this place is as good as it gets for airport dining. I sat at the bar and had Cyd as a server....she was awesome! No matter how busy, and they were very busy, she was very attentive and provided excellent service. They were having buy a beer and get a shot half off, she pitched it to everyone. We all laughed as a new person came up and she pitched them with the same deal. I ate the bacon cheese burger and it was really good, but especially for a bar in the airport. The beer was cold, the food was hot and the service was EXCELLENT!! This place is okay. It's virtually the only choice in Concourse A since a lot of other places are closed (despite what their sites say). The service here is SLOW... I ordered a glass of wine and it took WAY too long to show up. It does take a few minutes for someone to get you at the front entrance, so maybe they have the bare minimum staff here. Not sure but glad I had a lot of time between arriving at the airport and boarding/departure. The food was quite decent though, burger (kept it simple) was well prepared and the salad they subbed for the fries was a good portion. Probably on par with average store bagged lettuce/salad. Copius number of outlets to charge devices which is/was nice. In hindsight, I should have gone to Concourse B for more options. I stood in line for 10 minutes, the guy in front of me left, and there were at least 12 people behind me when I left. Chophouse had been in the A Terminal for quite a while, now. At one point, I would've said it was amongst the best offerings at DIA. Unfortunately, that's not really the case any longer. We attempted to dine here pre-flight about a month back, and the host said there were "system issues" and we "should go elsewhere", despite seeing other people sitting at the bar and at tables. We decided to try again for breakfast, this time, and there were no system issues, thankfully. Unfortunately, there were long-wait-for-service issues and sub-par-food-issues. First off, mimosas, once we were finally able to order them, were excellent. We actually had to wait about 20 minutes for a server to greet us once seated (I was getting up to ask the bartender if we could order from them right when our server came up), and service continued to be slow. My wife ordered the Brewer's Breakfast, which looked nice and tasted good, according to her. She made the correct decision in ordering eggs over easy rather than the watery and formed-to-the-steam-table-pan scrambled eggs I ordered as part of their other breakfast offering; Steak and Eggs. I ordered a medium-rare steak, however it was medium in some places and well-done in others. Granted, it was a small 6oz steak, but it should be properly cooked when the name outside is "Chophouse". The waiter was covering a lot of tables and he was courteous and friendly with each table. *Dark Munich Lager* Pretty good dark amber lager. Not bad if you like a malty beer with a hint of caramel. It went well with my steak salad. *Grilled Tenderloin Salad* Center cut tenderloin with red onion, bacon, Roma tomatoes, walnuts, red peppers and crumbled Bleu cheese in herb vinaigrette. If you order a burger cooked medium and it's dry (they don't serve med-rare) it's because it's either 10% fat 90% lean or it's frozen. But when I asked for the dessert menu the bartender handed it over, head lowered, hinting he wasn't proud of the options. It's one of the few non-fast food restaurants in this part of the terminal. After the 5th delay was announced by my "airline" I figured having a reasonable meal is the least I could do for myself. I ordered the chop steak salad, it had lots and lots of blue cheese which I love, walnuts(yum), and the steak was cooked perfectly. The host was a friendly upbeat guy which I appreciated. The server was fighting a one person battle, this place doesn't have enough severs, she was friendly but took a long time too take my order or get my check because she had so many tables to deal with. Clearly, this restaurant has no contingency for a semi-packed house. The sign says 144 capacity, but they don't nearly have enough severs for 75, which I think we're the amount of people who were dining. Again, I don't blame the server, gave her 20% tip out of sympathy. I hope she finds a job that actually values their customers because she was nice and friendly under the circumstances. They didn't have people to bus and wipe down the tables she was doing that too! It's a shame cause the food is not bad. Sure it's going to be packed, but if you can score a seat at the bar you'll be comfortable, warm, and fortunate to talk to a whole bunch of interesting travelers. The first time that I visited the Chophouse, I ordered the Chophouse Cheese Burger and a couple of well crafted Bloody Mary's. The burger was juicy & delicious accompanied with crispy, well-seasoned french fries. The second time I ordered the French Dip with a side salad with home-made blue cheese dressing. So good!
