I had to do a last minute move from San Francisco to LA on super short notice. I was able to get a quote easily after FaceTiming with the office which made setting up the actual move a breeze. I called on a Thursday and they were able to get movers out the next day. Dependable Movers did an excellent job moving my items into storage in May of this year. They got me to store my items with them in their Treasure Island unit as well at a cheaper monthly rate. However, they NEVER return my calls or they return my calls, put me on hold forever, and then promise to call me back and then never do. I have no idea what has happened to any of my belongings. I've called them repeatedly over the last several months to check in on any payment I owe them for storing my items but they have not responded to that either. At this point I am fearing the worst that they have stolen everything I stored with them. Think twice before storing your items with this moving company. If I don't hear back from them soon, I will be contacting the authorities. Edit: shortly after posting this review & leaving another voicemail/text, Gulia called me to apologize for the delayed response and scheduled a time to deliver the items they had been storing for me. Dependable Movers did a great job in the moving part. I moved a 1 bedroom apt in Alameda, 1 mile away. The truck was not packed correctly resulting in another trip back to pick up 2 items. I was advised it would be no charge however I was charged. They stopped working 1 hour 50 min and we agreed to round it up to a min of 2 hours. I was invoiced for 2.5 hours. The paperwork took longer as I was paying cash they kept trying to call it in to fix the amount. Dependable movers was a great asset to helping me move down within the same city. I will say the estimate for cost was slightly off from what was discussed on the phone and they charge you a lot of hidden things in the end. Your estimate might be $175 an hour but I ended up paying well over $500 to them for about 55 minutes of work. I would say their business model is pretty lackluster on that regard but their movers were great. Roma and Andrew were great and quick with the move. They're efficient with their time and make sure not to be slow as to not add to your final cost. We had a great experience with Dependable Movers for our move South San Francisco to Brisbane. During initial quote process, they communicated the hourly rates early, had a really helpful online inventory estimation tool and the salesperson I chatted with (Frank) was generally super straightforward and helpful. They showed up on time with a truck big enough to finish the move in one trip. We had so much stuff that it looked like we might need two trips, but Sergei and team worked their magic to make the most of the truck space such that we didn't need the second trip after all. The distance between the ends was short, but we had 75+ boxes plus heavy exercise equipment (treadmill and elliptical) and had flights of stairs that were not easy to maneuver. Sergei, Oscar and team handled the move without any issues, in shorter time than the initial estimate and we super easy to communicate with. (JAN2021) TL;DR: I was very happy with Dependable Movers. Simple, efficient business model with honest, hardworking men who get the job done to spec. Longer write-up: Price is mostly all-inclusive: $155/hr (3hr minimum), unless one pays in cash, in which it's $145/hr. $95 Truck Fee was not included. Mileage may be negotiable with the company if you are both close to their HQ and are moving within the same neighborhood. Because of restrictive loading dock times, I only had 5hrs to move. The two gents understood my situation and worked very quickly--and carefully--to get me moved to my new apartment a block away. Using a Ryder box truck, they finished helping me with my 1BR/1BA apartment in 4.5 hrs: Bed reassembled, large wardrobe boxes unpacked & returned, and 1.5cu-ft boxes laid out in an orderly fashion so I could deal with them later. Excellent work, even with my pre-prepping the household goods for the move. My only constructive feedback to the company is that the movers should explain in the end of the move what each signature is for (or let me read the electronic documents). I only got to read the paper sheet I signed at first. The electronic signatures on one of the mover's phones were quickly presented, and I had to prompt the mover to show me the info before I would sign. Don't get me wrong; I certainly trusted these men. I just like to be diligent in these matters. All in all, based off of the reviews of others and my own experience, I think it's safe to say that Dependable Movers definitely live up to their name. Update, 7/25: if zero stars was an option, I would choose it. They said they would make it right. I have contacted them twice since in order to get them to make it right. They... haven't responded. They did in fact break my turntable and speakers, as well as my custom furniture. I paid $100 an hour *more* than another quote I got for them to break several thousand dollars of items (the bookshelves are 2k each to make, the turntable and speakers was another $250 + they packed perishable food in random boxes?). Given the move was 11 hours, I spent an extra thousand dollars for them to break things. Cannot imagine a worse experience. Deeply grateful I moved my valuables myself. Previous review below: Nightmarish. Broke furniture, claimed they didn't, refused to wear a mask despite repeated requests from an immunocompromised person, just tossed everything into boxes with no padding, put water-sensitive items in with liquids - I could go on. I have to wonder why I apparently ended up with such a different experience than other reviewers. They were expensive ($249/hour/three movers - about $2300 to move a one-bedroom apartment about a mile - about half what I paid to move the amount amount from San Diego to San Francisco four months earlier), but I have multiple pieces of custom furniture. Given the good reviews, I figured it was worth the cost. lol, no. The day started out badly when I asked the movers to wear masks before they came in, because I'm immune-compromised. They said they did not have masks but would get them. An hour later, I got off a work call and went into the room where they were - no masks. I *provided them masks* and again pointed out that I'm immune-compromised. I left the house then because I can't really be in a space with unmasked people. When they called me back in four hours later to do a walkthrough, were they wearing masks? Obviously not. I asked again. They said they would. They did not. I asked a *fourth* time later in the afternoon. I have medical conditions that would make COVID very dangerous for me. There is a current surge in cases. I *provided masks*. I didn't spend much time with the movers so that they wouldn't have to wear them all the time, but they still wouldn't even wear them then. Now, let's talk about the moving part: They broke one of the custom pieces and didn't tell me. I noticed at the end of the day. The mover then told me it was "like that", and as proof, showed me a photo of the bookshelf that had clearly already been packed. (I had hired them to do packing, so I handed over the keys with a bookshelf full of books; a photo of a bookshelf empty of books is not proof it was "like that already". ). When I told him it was not, he tried to argue with me and say it was assembled incorrectly. 1) it's a custom piece so that's... literally not possible, 2) it was moved from San Diego to San Francisco without issues, so... seems like it's possible to move it! I'm still unpacking, but the packing appears disastrous. (Despite taking 2x as long as my movers in San Diego.). I've found books in boxes with shampoo with no packing material around the liquids (thank god, the books were fine). I've found laptops tossed in with (heavy) tools, also with no packing material. Did you want your record player to be tossed in a box with no padding? Great, this company will do that for you! I don't even know yet how many things were broken - I'm still unpacking. "Not-so-dependable movers" They assigned wrong number of movers to do the job, which took them almost the entire day to finish. Also, they lost our containers with tools and games that are worth easily over several hundreds in the process of moving and did not help us out with either locating those containers nor compensating for the lost items fairly (They offered 50 cents / lbs, as if they are dealing some garbages). I would not hire them again. --- Update based on the response -- Thank you for your reply, but we were actually assigned 2 movers to do the job, not 3. Great, friendly & respectful work completed by two handy men that completely knew how to disassemble, pack everything up, & drive it to my new residence. After they arrived, they carefully unloaded my furniture, took my items up the elevator (5 stories) & reassembled all my furniture, moving the items around to place the items in areas I like & to make them all fit in my new, smaller apt residence. These workers were dependable & I highly recommend their service to others. Fast, Easy, and Efficient. Not to mention SUPER friendly and easy on the eye ;) Gulia was immediately responsive, patient and knowledgeable. Her quote was accurate and the service was executed exactly as explained. She even spoke to me the night before around 9 pm to quell my anxiety over moving our 40 gallon fish tank. We opted to go with Dependable Movers - San Francisco as a referral from our realtor that sold our home. From the beginning, they were very responsive, answered the many questions we had at various times before and after signing the agreement. Carlos, Max and Giulia are a great team and work efficiently and effectively to get any mishaps resolved. We did an out of state move between two households, the team showed up on time at the first location. Worked diligently to get the truck loaded. Arrived at the second location (just a few blocks away) and began the process of loading that location onto the truck. Once that was completed, they confirmed the day we wanted the truck to arrive at the new location. They arrived as they said they would, on the selected day and time! The crew worked just as diligently to unload the truck and place boxes and furniture where we wanted. Dependable movers helped us move a one bedroom apartment a month ago - while moving wasn't fun to begin with, we also had to move during the pandemic, I was pretty stressed - but the movers and Gulia who managed our move made everything so much easier, everything went smoothly, I didn't need to stress about the move at all with them! (I wish I had written this earlier bc now I can't remember the movers names. I'm writing this now since a friend asked for mover rec and reminded me of them). I've moved a few times over the past few years with different movers and I would move with them again. Their quotes are reasonable. The manager Gulia was very responsive and helpful before the move (with all my questions over emails and calls, and she took notes so the movers were aware. We were also moving into a big condo with HOA rules and requirements, Gulia was able to provide documents and info needed). The two movers we had were awesome- they showed up right on the dot, took note of what we asked, moved everything, got all our stuff to the new apartment efficiently and smoothly. They were pros- we've had movers before who took a lot of time deciding which box to take, how to wrap big furniture, etc- these movers were the opposite, they were very efficient with knowing which boxes/furniture pieces to take and how to stack into the truck etc. The apt we were moving out of was on ground floor and they could park right outside so that made it easier, the new apt had a loading doc and elevator so that may have been the reason why moving in took a little longer. They still finished within a few hours (half the time it took with the moving company I had in the last move). The only thing I would say is, if you have specific furniture pieces you want them to wrap with blankets, be sure to ask. We asked specifically for our glass table and mirror (which they probably would've done anyway without us asking) but we had a wooden desk and shelves that would've been nice to be wrapped (we didn't ask but probably could have) bc they can be scratched during the move - ours had some minor scratches but it's not a big deal. We had movers in the past who'd wrap all furniture pieces with blankets without asking, and that was nice. Overall, they were very pleasant to work with (I wish I remember the movers' names), can't thank them enough for moving during the pandemic, and we were glad we had gone with them. I was slightly skeptical before seeing all the 5 star reviews, but now I know why. read more
