We were in the area camping at Lake Pleasant and decided to make a foray into town to get some dinner and groceries and saw this little shop. I had seen it on Yelp and at first glance I thought it was a place where you could choose your donut batter and they'd make it fresh for you. I was wrong! Upon entering our family of 5 was very enthusiastically greeted by a young girl (we later found out she was the owner's daughter), who proceeded to give us a tour of their ordering process and answered any questions I had. Turns out that all their donuts are vanilla cake donuts (I'm actually not a fan of that kind--but wait! I'm not done...) and the variety is in the variations of toppings, not in the donut batter like I'd thought. And man, they have it (almost) all! We were going to just get one for each of us, but then it turns out we were there on their Dads for Donuts day--50% all donuts with dad present. So we opted to get 2 for each person, with the intention of one now one later. Ordered 8 donuts for 4 of us, and my youngest isn't a donut fan so he ordered a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. His order was made first and it was very impressive in size, so much so that he offered to share with us (and he never does that)! In the meantime, we had to wait a little while as they put together our 8 and to be honest, I wasn't having high hopes. The donuts by themselves weren't very impressive looking and assemblage looked meh. When she gave us our boxes I was pleasantly surprised to feel warm bottoms, and when we got into our car to enjoy the donuts, they looked really good. Then I bit into mine and wow... it was REALLY good!!! The donut was very soft and moist on the inside with a lightly crisp exterior. And the pleasant thing is that the donuts themselves are not overly sweet, which is a nice balance to the toppings. The rest of the family agreed that the donuts were good; some a little too sweet while others just right. Definitely would come back if we're ever up in this corner again. There are about 60 flavor combos on the wall to choose from or you can design your own! Warm donuts are dropped into the frosting of choice and spun to coat. I opted for a variety of the customer favorites, but you can do your own customization. This just could be a case of personal preference. But this isn't going to be my go-to doughnut place. I like a crunch from the fried dough and then a cakey-soft inside. This whole thing was cakey and borderline mushy. That may just be because of how fresh it was. Their schtick is that they make your doughnut fresh when you order it. Which is nice when you show up in the evening. Most other doughnut places would have a limited selection and the doughnuts would be stale passed noon. But that means all the flavor is going to be based on toppings and the dough doesn't have much character. I got the bacon blast. Their best seller. It was loaded with bacon but not much of a maple flavor. We also got the lemon bars doughnut. It had a really fresh lemon taste. Both doughnuts fell apart while eating them. She said yes that's correct, so we could not order anything except donuts or a scoop of ice cream. As a small business in this town with this kind of lack of service and limiting a menu is absolutely ridiculous.
