Working with Lisa was great! I had no idea how to organize my house and she thought of things that wouldn't even occur to me. Salt in an accessible little bowl, lazy susan in the cabinet, plants in the house?? Lisa worked with me to make my house a place where I liked being again and I was happy to have company over. I was hesitant to hire someone to help after several bad experiences with construction workers and handymen, but Lisa exceeded all expectations. There were a few days where I had to jump on a work call or run back to the office and everytime I came back I was amazed at how much work she had gotten done. A big part of organizing and cleansing my apartment was to be sustainable even when getting rid of things. I love that Lisa would reuse if possible, donate if we couldn't reuse, and worse case recycle if nothing else could be done. Lisa is a naturally gifted organizer. She was constantly giving refreshing ideas throughout the process. She confidently informed me I would say "what a good idea" many times and should start counting. In the beginning, I explained I was overwhelmed and didn't know where to start, but Lisa knew exactly what to do and I watched as she effortlessly solved problems I had been unable to solve for years. The process was surprisingly relaxing because I could see that I could trust her completely. She also helped me with lighting, hanging artwork, buying a few pieces of furniture, and relocated my plants so they would better thrive and brought in new ones that are stunning. Lisa created flow and made my home more efficient in a way I didn't know was possible. I feel so much calmer and happier and couldn't recommend her more highly. read more

So, uh, apparently Lisa Shields was briefly taken over by evil aliens, because my experience with her was entirely different from what others here have said (I'm Reviewer #5). TL;DR: She didn't get anything done during her time in my home. She insulted my art and was sarcastic with me. She didn't manage the scope of her project. She deliberately broke the inside of a jewelry box to repurpose it, without asking me, and still insisted that she had been in open communication with me the whole time. When I told her I was unhappy, she said what sounded to me like, "Oh well, sorry." Then I said, "Okay, I want a refund," and she said no. She did not offer at any point to make things right, nor did she address at any point the specific damages that I had pointed out in my emails to her. A poor review is a hard thing to stomach when you're an independent consultant. I don't want anyone--Lisa or potential clients--to think that I'm just sounding off without basis. So here's some more detail, and please know that I'm doing my best to be judicious and fair. One: I found her online. I hired her for an initial consultation (for which she charges her full hourly rate). She came over. She seemed to have lots of ideas, but she talked about my home in a way that I found disrespectful ("that's gotta go, that's gotta go, that's gotta go.") Two: When she followed up with me after that, I wrote her an email saying frankly that I didn't like how she talked about my stuff. She wrote a cordial email back saying that my points were fair, and that she'd still like to work on my space. Three: I figured I'd give her a second chance. After all, when we chatted the first time, even though I was put off by comments that I found rude, she did also have some ideas I liked. I tried to have her come over for just a couple of hours, because I was a bit nervous that we might not be a good fit, but she insisted on her 4-hour minimum because that's how much time she needed to really get into things, which I thought was fair. Four: She came over. We apparently occupied two separate dimensions during those four hours, because she thought she did lots of good stuff and stayed in constant communication with me, while I was appalled by her lack of results, lack of communication, and lack of time management. Five: I wrote to her outlining specifically what I was upset about. She responded with an email that did not address the specifics but said that she thought things were fine. At that point I felt annoyed (until then I'd been mostly bewildered and upset), and requested a refund because I did not get the service I asked for. She wrote back and said that it wasn't an option because she'd invested time/effort and she totally ignored, again, the specific complaints I had. Conclusion? Well, I'll certainly never hire her again. What was weird, though, was that I thought Lisa seemed like a cool person, you know? I thought she seemed smart and competent. But she really botched my project badly, and given that I'm just a regular person with a non-fancy lifestyle, it hurt me in terms of time and money and all-round bad vibes. I know that sometimes a client and a consultant just don't gel, and I've been on both sides of that before. I make it my job to go back and redo things till my client is either happy with the work or truly satisfied that I have made a thorough, fair attempt to fix things. Lisa didn't. I wish she had had the grace to respond to specific complaints I raised in writing, like when I pointed out that she threw things into the trash basket (after saying she wouldn't), or that she ripped out the dividers of an expensive jewelry box without asking me. I wish she hadn't argued with me when I tried to explain why my sketching tools (various pens and pencils) needed to separated (she put them all in a box together even though I had them separated into holders already. I wish she didn't take the table cover off my desk after I already told her that I hated the desk without it and really liked the cover on it. I wish she had at least offered at some point to make things right, instead of flatly denying my claims. Hey, if your client is consistently having trouble with the way you communicate, telling them "I did a good job of communicating!" is not really the sensible way to go. I wish I had had the Lisa Shields that the first four reviewers had. read more

Lisa was an outstanding help for us! She did everything from remodeling our kitchen to installing new shelving units at a very great price! Our office changed dramatically in the short time she was with us. Adding new decor, creating a sewing station, implementing a floor plan for us that helped expedite in-bound/out-bound deliveries by clearing space and creating organized sections in our office. She helped us get rid of a ton of our excess product in a reusable sustainable by recycling and donating to those in need. Lisa has made our office an exciting place that our employees look forward to going to! No more having to dig through piles to find things we need. Or have our desks piled with papers. We all know how to easily find documents and supplies we need at any time. She is such a joy to work with that we forgot that she isn't an actual employee of ours and we're all upset the day her job was done. Very approachable and always asking us if there is anyway to make our lives easier at work. Never missed a day and was always on time! read more

I work from home, and my apartment was looking like a sad messy office. I felt like I hadn't left my small grey cubicle behind. I contacted Lisa for help and she really changed the place. She helped me organize all my things and we came up with a system to keep it that way. I love tropical plants and wanted to fill my apartment with them, but I also like to take a more hands-off approach with plants. Thankfully Lisa was able to convince me that that wasn't the right combination for LA. My apartment now looks clean and green, and I don't have to be a full time gardener. While we were discussing options, Lisa noticed that I had a great outdoor patio, but I told her I didn't use it much because it didn't feel inviting to me. All I had were two old chairs that the previous tenants left behind. We went out there and Lisa told me how with a few potted plants I could have a lot of privacy; a new furniture set, candles, solar lights, and fire pit later my patio is the best room in the apartment. I hang out there all the time (sometimes even work!) and I can actually have friends over (socially distanced of course). I loved working with her, she was extremely thoughtful and really listened to me. She discussed options without being pushy, and even went out of her way to check all of my apartment to make sure she didn't miss anything. I hadn't even thought of having her take a look at the patio, and now it is my favorite spot. I would definitely recommend Lisa; If I ever move again I'll definitely hire her again. read more

Thanks to Lisa my home is transformed! I initially hired her to help spruce up the house for an upcoming party, but in the end she provided so much more! I ended up throwing away bags and bags of trash and got rid of so much clutter that was taking up valuable space in my life. Working with Lisa was amazing. She pretty much transformed my house from a bunch of boxes and stuff thrown haphazardly everywhere (we just moved in) to a place that I find incredibly comfortable, well organized, and simply beautiful. She really knows what she's doing with storage ideas, organization, and her speciality, plant styling/design. Just walking through my house now, I am so, so happy. Knowing that I have a black thumb, she coached me through the care of the each of the amazing plants she put in my home. (Tip: ask her if she can put a schefflera in your bedroom! Ours is STUNNING. I just stare it.) I can also feel minutes being added back on to my day now. In a time impoverished society, it's priceless. I know exactly where my stuff is and it's in a place that makes total sense that I definitely would not have come up with on my own. I knew that organization was not my forte, so let's bring in the expert! I really couldn't be happier with our decision to hire Lisa. I felt that working with Lisa was also money very well spent - she is incredibly efficient and such a hard worker. There were times were I was working at home while she was doing her thing and I was amazed by how hard she works! Finally, I absolutely LOVED her model of using what you already have. I feared hiring a professional organizer who would have me buying a million and one plastic containers and a label maker for all my pantry items - no thank you (though if that IS your thing, Lisa can do that - I've seen past projects of hers and it's very well done). If anything, Lisa's approach had me thinking of buying LESS - the few items she did recommend us purchasing really made a huge difference. My good friend Shawn referred Lisa to me. Lisa organized, styled, and installed plants in Shawn's home. Shawn was ecstatic. Shawn insisted she was trustworthy and highly recommended her to do the same for me. One of the goals was to transform my very bare bedroom into something more romantic. In the end, Lisa dreamed something up that was above and beyond my expectations. She works tirelessly with a strong work ethic while at the same her approach was highly imaginative and unique. The plants are the best part, probably because they are her passion. It's almost like they are art installations but instead of standing out in an obvious way they create harmony and balance in the space. I couldn't be happier with Lisa's work. I had actually hired an organizer in the past but I wasn't happy. I will definitely be referring Lisa to anyone who needs help with organizing, decorating, or interior plant design (which I didn't even know was thing). Initially I hired Lisa to help me organize the main rooms, and while she did such an amazing job organizing and curating my things, I decided to have her help me incorporate some of the fantastic suggestions she gave us with regard to décor. My husband and I moved into our home 2 years ago but never have had the time to properly decorate. Most impressively, Lisa helped us create lighting schemes, which I love. "LIGHTING IS EVERYTHING!" I heard many times, LOL. She also convinced us to bring in some plants. I was hesitant to bring in plants at first but I love love love them! The plants backlight with light casts amazing shadows. My home feels like it has more life, more dimension, and I can't get over the fact that it seems bigger. Lisa also provided instructions for each plant and how to take care of them, as well as helped my husband I set up alerts in our calendars to create a consistent watering schedule. Lisa helped take a big weight off my shoulders. We are actually able to enjoy our home now. She did an amazing job and was a delight to work with. I cannot recommend her more highly. read more

I was pretty pleased with my experience with Lisa. She came in initially to help only with my home office, as I was preparing to increase my side business and was going to need to use it as an actual Office space, rather than storage. She in fact helped me with office, kitchen, closets and more. She came up with good re-purposing ideas for most of my existing pieces, and everything that I was holding onto that in fact didn't need to keep, was donated to the woman's shelter in DTLA (which she loaded up her own car with to drop off, and sent me the receipt for tax uses), Goodwill or donated to friends and co-workers (all good stuff, btu I just didn't need it all). She also was clever with how to organize items in groups and used my covered staircase (which I don't use) as a storage solution and put items like camping chairs up on the side walls to free up closet space in the main part of the house. She helped me declutter and rid myself of items that weren't practical anymore. We didn't do every single thing she suggested, as there's a need for compromise on some of the ideas, but I was overall very happy with how she helped me to better my home and items. She's got a tough attitude at times, but that's part of her job. She is there to help declutter your life... so take what she says as constructive, she's doing her job to help. Might be a bit tough to hear at the time, but she does a good job of lessening the CRAP most of us have. Haha! She is fun to talk with and comes up with plans for what you need and need to do once she's finished with the job and has goals set for what you can do on your own once she's gone, which helped me to keep on track and finish at the pace that I was comfortable with, like putting up added shelving in closets (which I needed help from my bf with), getting a more practical trash bin and more. read more

I had no idea how much money my disorganized living space was costing me until I hired Lisa to come and fix my life. I'm an artist, and I work out of my home studio. As you can imagine- work, family, life, everything conspires to keep me from keeping my studio organized and efficient. I finally decided to enlist a professional and my only regret is that I took so long to do it. Lisa came in and homed in on exactly what needed to be done to optimize my workflow during the day. I hired Lisa to come in and help me tidy up my house and de-clutter. Little did I know, it would end up in about 10 garbage bags full of trash and recycling! I live in a small apartment in Venice and was considering moving, but then I thought about hiring a professional organizer... SO glad I did! I wish I had called Lisa years ago. Lisa helped me and my husband move into our new home. It's taken us forever to feel completely "moved-in" to other homes we have lived in but with Lisa's help, we felt like we really had a home to enjoy after only a few sessions with her. She's easy to work with and honest. She also has a great eye for detail and design so her organization doesn't feel sterile.
