My granddaughter wanted to go here for a treat, and wanted grandma to try the shaved Ice. We ordered the Strawberry and Mango flavors. They have a large poster showing a big one and small one. My daughter ordered for me and the person behind the counter never said there were two sizes so she ordered the one available. I should have asked what was in this shaved Ice, since I'm not familiar with this dessert style. When it was ready, I was shocked at the enormous amount!!!! Not a good thing, as it was the most sickly sweet thing I've had. I took one spoon full and my mouth was instantly coated with sugar. I could not eat it. They also drizzled something over it, so the strawberries were coated. My granddaughter liked her mango one, but kids love sweet things. For my health, I had to toss it in the garbage, and I hate doing stuff like that normally. I don't like to waste food, but this was literally a huge pile of sugar without even tasting like strawberries. Didn't realize it was mixed with condensed milk. Again, I don't know much about these desserts. All I can say is $15.95 is way too much for this disaster of a dessert. I asked for a little cup of water to get the sugar taste out of my mouth, and the woman behind the counter said they don't do that, and you have to buy a bottle of water. Kinda mean and gross. So, the other reason for the one star is how dirty the place was. As you walked in, the door was filthy, the chairs, and the walls near the booth. Just grimy! Cute, popular ice cream shop that's definitely made for Instagram. The line was out the door and every seat and booth inside was filled on the weekend. You could even smell the sugar and cream wafting outdoors and around the outdoor mall! When we finally got to the front of the line to order, there were plenty of options. Do you want something sweet and colorful from the Angel side? Or do you want something dark and devilishly delicious from the other? The anticipation of seeing what your order looks like was the biggest draw. My boyfriend ended up getting a matcha ice cream in a devil red cone. And I got a taiyaki fish filed with ube over Oreo ice cream and plenty of sprinkles in a cup. The matcha was nice and light. The Oreo ice cream was yummy and sweet especially with the sprinkles. We went there specifically for the Taiyaki and was told they couldn't sell any yet two other customers got them AFTER we had ordered first and they got theirs. I ordered the Black Sugar Royal Milk Tea again like on my last visit because it was not that bad the first time I tried it. They made me the Black Sugar Vietnamese Coffee instead and as I was sipping it, I was wondering why there was a strong taste to it. I told the employee, but she claimed that it was the right drink and that both drinks look rather similar. I told her it was not because of the strong taste and another employee came by, apologized, admitted he made the wrong drink, and remade it for me. After getting the right drink - it tasted different from my first visit and it was way too sweet and strong with all that black sugar. I have a weird phase in my boba flavor right now which is cookies and cream shake and no boba to boot. A few moments later, I received my drink but with boba. Mind you the order sticker on the drink also has comment 'no boba' as clear as the sky. I requested to have my drink to be remade. All good by me. But when I got my drink back, they clearly just scoped out the boba out of the drink and called it a day, leaving a ghastly inch gap of nothingness on the top of the drink. My experience here so far has been great! Nice selection of drinks and desserts, and they're aesthetically pleasing too. The walls are also decorated, perfect for photo ops! You can order with an employee or at a self service machine (which they recently added I believe). Service is quick, and the drinks I've tried taste good! The refreshers are great in the summer, and the colors are super pretty! I've also tried the taro milk tea, and you can't go wrong with that. Decided to drive over 30 minutes to this location because I was such a big fan of Devil & Angel, terrible mistake. When I tried to order my angel soft serve I asked for boba added to it, something I have ordered multiple times in Fairfield, the worker said they could not do it because "we don't have a button for it". Fine, so then I decided to order a cookies and cream ice cream with Oreos. Which most people would assume is vanilla soft serve with Oreo topping. Then when my friend asked what the cookies and cream was she said it was just chocolate, after I had already ordered it and got my ice cream. When I got my ice cream it was just chocolate ice cream with Oreo topping not what I wanted. I kindly went up to the counter to ask if this was the cookies and cream ice cream I ordered. The lady said yes. I asked if there was any way to exchange it for just vanilla because I don't like chocolate ice cream, when I asked to exchange it they flat out said " no". There was no exceptions. I was very disappointed. Threw it away and left. Don't advertise it as "cookies and cream" if it's just chocolate ice cream. They even took down the giant wings to take pictures and replaced it with a photo booth that is forever out of order. They no longer serve half the things on the menu like donuts and mochi. They started selling tanghulu but the cut fruit are literally just on the table and not cooled down in a fridge. The fish cone is hard and dry cuz they're just sitting off to the side. The side serve flavors are terrible and there are so few options compared to before. They have this weird policy where they can't put more than one topping (why? Just put less of the other stuff and charge for the extra topping). All in all, this is the place to go to for a sticky mess. My family and I USED to love going here. However, there seemed to be an influx of newer and younger employees that do not seem to care about their work. Case in point. 1. Weeks ago we came in and asked for the fish cone w taro. (Our favorite) visibly there was 1 last one. To which the young lady at the counter said there were none left, and then immediately another co-worker grabbed the fish cone from the display and took it to the back, where we visibly saw her later eating her own ice cream w the last fish cone. This last saturday my wife, daughter and I came from Puesto the Mexican restaurant and rushed to Angels and Devil to try and make it before closing time. Before going we checked w google to find out that the closing time for Angels & Devil to be 9:30p on sat. So, we paid our bill and walked briskly to make it by 9:08p. Upon arriving my daughter saw all the chairs put up, and when she entered, she was told they were closed, my wife, entered afterwards and re assured my daughter that they were open and probably were just setting up to close on time, it was saturday after all. My wife went inquired herself and was also told they were indeed closed, and when my wife mentioned that online it said the store was open till 9:30p, the 2 employees inside quietly looked at each other and just stood silent, the woman in the photo then repeated, that they were closed. After hearing this, we stepped out and I went to the front door, took a photo of the door sign showing them being closed, took a close up photo of the employee from the outside and the phobe clock to show proof that they indeed werelosed early. I also noticed, that as I left, there was another couple behind me also wondering if they were still open. I just wish this place would have a little more professionalism and a bit more maturity in its employees, because, they have a good product and it seems a shame that its current employees do not seem to care. I might be the only Asian that doesn't like BOBA, and I know I'm in the minority. OK, give it to me. I'm ready to get some backlash. We came here after dinner with friends and they wanted dessert. As I mentioned, I'm not into the fancy drinks as they are also much too sweet for me. I gotta watch my sugar intake, but the Ube caught my attention. Soft serve Ube in a cup sounded just right and light. The place looks new, and it's definitely popular among the younger crowd. It's also decorated with all the bells and whistles that social media influencers seem to crave and post them on their IG accounts. Well, I took some pictures, but none made it to my IG account. I was just doing it for satire. If you don't know what an Ube is, you must've been living under a rock these past few years. Ube is a purple yam (not Taro, which is similar, but is a purple potato) and is indigenous to the Philippines. It has a strong and violet color that is sometimes lavender, but it's very vivid and pops vibrantly. It's been used mostly for desserts in the islands from ice cream, jam, cake and whatever kind of pastry you can think of. Lately, it's gained popularity among non-Asian establishments and began to incorporate them into their products. Trader Joes is one of those who have contributed and jumped on the bandwagon. However, this thing that they were serving here was not Ube. Yes, it was purple, and you could probably get that from the food coloring; but it had none of the characteristics and taste of an Ube. This soft serve thing they are passing as Ube is just a sweet, creamy, buttery impostor masquerading as the real thing. My friend liked it though, but we have dissimilar taste when it comes to desserts. If you want some real Ube ice cream, go to Mitchell's in San Francisco. They've been using that ingredient long before it became mainstream. They even get their products straight from the Philippines. To be fair, this review is just for the Ube soft serve and I haven't tried their other products yet. 3 stars is being generous since I did not dislike the taste, it's just that it wasn't as I expected. I used to like this place but not after coming here last Saturday. Service is slow & their Kiosk is closed for service so we waited in line. We ordered ube soft serve & we can tell the consistency on their soft serve is not creamy like it used to, it's almost like the milk is watered down. Also got the dubai pistachio chocolate frappe & I am glad the pistachio is only on top & I did not mix it well to the bottom of the cup because that pistachio cream on top is stale almost like mustard, it was bad. & who walks in at ice cream / cold drinks store & the AC is off. Considering the amount of people that come here, I thought it would be a tasty treat. However, the drinks were overly sweet. And it took quite awhile to get our drinks. I know the staff did the best they could but they definitely made one of my drinks incorrectly so I had to ask them to remake it. On top of that I noticed that most drinks came from a premade juice dispenser...so why the super long wait then? Probably cause they were extremely understaffed. Two people making drinks when the line was out the door? I honestly can't recommend this place. First, I went to order the dragon berry soft serve but an employee recommended to try it so I did. It was a nice, refreshing flavor. However, we ended up going with the Ube. My boyfriend and I just shared it, he really enjoyed it but I wasn't too big of a fan of the flavor for some reason. We didn't get any toppings besides the sugar cone which is a cute fish. Located inside this really cute plaza, they are known for their drinks and delicious desserts. This place has a cute decor where I could totally see people taking photos and posting it on instagram. The staff were quick to take our order, but also abrupt making it feel like we were bothering them. I ended up ordering the love potion after seeing it on their yelp photos. It looked really cute and delicious. The love potion has sparkling water, dragon fruit, guava, and lemon yuzu. I highly recommend mixing the drink every time you drink it because the lemon yuzu tends to stick to the bottom. While the drink itself was delicious, the lemon yuzu was a little too overpowering that it left a bad after taste in my mouth. Also a heads up for those who are going to check into this boba shop on Yelp, they no longer accept the 5% off first time customers. While the drink was good, there was nothing that made them stand out from other boba shops I've been to. You can smell the goodness as you walk up to the doors. It's definitely a popular place on warm, sunny days. This was my 1st time trying the soft serve. Delicious. Love how they were making the regular cones in store. I got the affogato, which was lovely. The serving was just right. The little cookies were nice and crunchy. Though I even liked them as they sat in the coffee. I tasted a little of the ube, and that was nice too. The store does not take cash, so bring your credit card. Will definitely be coming back when I'm nearby and can find parking. As it is in an outdoor mall, parking can be rather difficult. So, make sure you are combining visiting stores. I have been dying to try Devil & Angel Ice Cream Milk Tea since I saw Genevieve Y's photos shortly after they opened in August 2020. I decided to come here after buying a few items at Cost Plus. I had a little difficulty finding the place as it is somewhat hidden from the parking lot. Yelpers, save yourself a few mins of getting lost and just head towards Barnes and Noble. D&A is on the right. ;-) I ordered the Angel's cone, which is tayaki over ice cream in a cup. I got Nutella filling and ube ice cream. The Angel's cone comes with 2 free toppings, and I got crushed Oreo cookies and rainbow sprinkles (yay Pride Month next week!). Tonight was my first time trying tayaki AND ube, as Yelp has made me want to try both for a while. For those of you who haven't had ube, it has a slight coconut flavor. I will admit I was intrigued by the purple color of ube as that was one of my undergraduate university's colors (Go Portland Pilots! #purplepride). With regard to Covid protocols, employees wore masks and gloves along with stickers on the floor to maintain a 6 feet distance. Plexi glass walls are in front of the register and food preparation areas. Some of the tables looked a little messy, but I just found one outside. The employee was friendly and had my order ready about 2 mins after ordering. Given that it was hard to speak and hear with the plexi glass and noise of the machines, the employee came up in front of the register so we could understand one another better. Great customer service! They are credit/debit card only, which bugs me a little but I also understand because of the pandemic. While I often use credit/debit cards, sometimes I prefer to pay in cash for smaller purchases. With the plan for CA to re-open on 06/15/2021, it is certainly not out of the question that they could accept cash in the future.
