We had my daughter's wedding reception at the DeWolf Tavern and had an unequivocally excellent experience. Chef Sai met with us before the event and did the (amazing) cooking during the reception. It was clear he cared deeply about making the event memorable. Alicia Fay, the planner, did an outstanding job recommending menu items and ensuring all of the bases were covered. She was tremendously responsive, helpful, and insightful during the entire process. Our go-to person during the event, Vinny, couldn't have been better. He anticipated every need and helped make sure everything went smoothly. The food was AMAZING. Everything from the passed hors d'oeuvres (the baby lamb chops, shrimp pakora, crab cakes and pea and potato croquettes were KILLER), the raw bar, the entrees and open bar were perfect. All of our guests raved about the food and were very impressed with the originality of the preparations. One of our guests is the maitre'd at a famous NYC steakhouse. He had the filet mignon and commented that he's NEVER had a better steak! We've had lunch and dinner at DeWolf tavern and have always had a great experience. We've also just gone there for cocktails and had a wonderful time. I can't recommend DeWolf highly enough. They have my thanks for making our daughter's wedding day such a fantastic event. read more

DeWolf Review: BAD BUSINESS I want to start this review by acknowledging the bartenders and servers at the restaurant. They are very friendly and they do their best to ensure a great customer experience for everyone that walks through the door. With that being said, DeWolf Tavern does not conduct their business professionally whatsoever. One week ago, I came in and spoke with the head chef Sai Viswanath, about having a band that I manage come in and play (apparently the head chef is the owner). After hearing a clip of the band play, he was excited about the prospect of having them come play a show in the near future. He was very adamant in making sure that if he did book our band, that we advertise and bring him in customers to make it worth while. We exchange information, shake hands and part ways. Three days ago, I get a call from his "booking manager" Lynn. She asks me if the band can come play from 7:30 to 10pm on Wednesday night. That is nearly a three hour set with no other bands coming in to play to take the stage. Being the professional musicians that they are, they spent three days coming up with original and quality material ready to be played for the customers of DeWolf Tavern. Again, I want to stress that Sai made it very clear that he needed us to advertise the performance on our end, and so we did to our upmost abilities. On our way to restaurant with all of our equipment in the car, and all of the people we invited coming in from different areas of the region (Boston, Cape Cod, Providence, Connecticut), I get a phone call from Lynn saying "the original band that we booked is in and they're playing so we don't need you." I calmly proceeded to get to the bottom of the problem so that we could work out a solution because there has to be a way to fix this minor mistake. When Lynn realizes that I won't just roll over and say "oh ok" to her dropping a bomb on us completely last minute, she hangs up on me.... Needless to say, we did not play at DeWolf Tavern last night. (We moved the gig somewhere else so that the 70 people coming to hear the band play from outside the region weren't disappointed). I came into the restaurant this morning to discuss with Sai (the man in charge) what had happened. I called 30 minutes ahead to let them know I was coming. When I arrived, he kept me waiting for 25 minutes before I could get my three minutes with him. In a professional manner, I asked him why last night happened the way it did and tried to explain to him how it effects our business and credibility (our being the band's) when they book us, tell us to advertise ourselves, and then push us out last minute. Unfortunately, Sai did not care at all about what happened last night, and was extremely dismissive. At a certain point, he broke out into uncalled-for sarcasm that had no place in a conversation that was supposed to be productive. Sai, I told you that I really don't want to write this review. But unfortunately, you decided to show no empathy or care for the way your business treated us, and the way it treated those that were coming to see us. The goal of this review is not to put DeWolf out of business or tell people not to eat there. I want everybody that has any business with DeWolf (website makers, photographers, artists, social media people, cleaning companies. ANYBODY) to be weary, vigiliant, and cautious when dealing with Sai Viswanath and DeWolf Tavern. I would also like to ask anybody who supports good local [business to business] relationships to share this post and spread the message. Lastly, to anybody who came to see Noble Savage play on Wednesday night, I sincerely apologize for this incident. Ugh, I probably should have just walked out. This is the kind of place for 60+ yacht crowd who doesn't mind overpaying for being right on the waterfront and a "classy" atmosphere. The menu is odd (Naan pizza and traditional seafood??), it didn't entice me to order any food so I can't comment on that aspect. They do have some craft beers to drink, but boy are they a ripoff. $8 for a Foolproof IPA. Not a double IPA, just their regular old one, which is not what we ordered. They had apparently failed to change the tap handles or inform the staff that the keg was a different beer. I don't know if we were charged for the double or not since the receipt just said "foolproof." Either we got overcharged or they have ridiculously high beer prices. read more

Really great spot right next to the Bristol Harbor Inn. Went here for dinner with a group of coworkers. Service was average a little slow at times but food was very delicious and the views are amazing. I had the lobster popovers with the Brussels sprouts corn bread side. Both were very good, the sauce on the lobster was one of the best! Will definitely be back in the future. read more

I was ready to give this place a 4 or 5-star rating after dining here with my mother in anticipation of booking a rehearsal dinner in a few months. I spoke with a most professional and obliging gentlemen named Jeremy Clouse... But it was after dealing (or not dealing) with their catering & banquet manager that I decided on this meager 1-star rating. They were terrible... TERRIBLE... to deal with when it comes to hospitality and customer service. First of all, I called back and spoke with Mr. Clouse personally and he told me he'd penciled me in and I'd be getting a call from "Kate Turner". After not hearing, my future mother-in-law called Dewolf, and was told by a very gracious "Andrew" (apparently Jeremy's replacement for front of house) that either Kate or Raphaella would be giving a call back. After 5 days of waiting, this call never came. She called back several times after that, only to sincere apologies and more empty promises that a call would come. Needless to say, none of us have ever heard from this mysterious "Kate Turner" or "Raphaella", and if they do indeed exist, they should be notified of this extreme lack of professionalism tout de suite! What a disappointment! (For them, mostly, because we would've been a hungry & thirsty party of 40, descending upon them at 3:00pm on a late-summer's eve ready for some good food and frivolity! We went with a neighboring restaurant instead, with very good hospitality and customer service.) read more

I grew up in the East Bay area of Rhode Island and this is my favorite restaurant in the area. My family and I frequent the restaurant often. I have never had a poor meal here and the staff is very attentive and accomadating. I eat mostly vegetarian, so I am a big fan of their side dishes--you have to try the manchurian cauliflower! The restaurant is also very cozy and has beautiful views of Bristol harbor. Defintely check it on Mon-Thurs, when they offer a 3-course meal + 1 drink for $20. That price cannot be beat anywhere. read more

This is one of a kind restaurant at the water front with the appetizers and Entres half American half Indian. The combination is just unbelievably delicious. Drinks are fantastic. We went there for our anniversary and thought the food was ok----- my wife got an over priced steak and I got a salad that was fair and a chicken dish that was ok. During all this I had to wheather an incompetent waiter who first brought the wrong salad then made me wait 15 minutes for the right one and didn't apologize or offer some kind of comp-- what an idiot I couldn't stand this guy, hopefully he is not there anymore. I talked to the manager on duty on my way out and I have to say she was awesome. She apologized for the incompetent waiter and offed me a comp. My wife and I had lunch today at the DeWolf Tavern and was a bit disappointed. The atmosphere was a little boring with the painted walls and ceiling being the same color. Our waitstaff sat us at a table that had been freshly varnished and it still had a slight odor. We decided to split some appetizers and ordered the lobster popover and the Asian ribs. The order took awhile even with the place being slightly bare. The popover was fine but lacked spice, the ribs were bland, nothing to write home about. All and all, just disappointed, since reading reviews from other yelpers. read more

My roommates parents came to visit for the weekend and they took the whole crowd to DeWolf Tavern for a nice meal. Like typical college students we "pre-gamed" the dinner. Anyways, we show up slightly buzzed and begin to mingle with the older people. So DeWilf is a nice fancy place close to the water in the center of Bristol. The service is okay, not as good as it should be for such a nice place. The food is good just not great. For the money this place is lacking, a lot. You can have just as good a time at many of the other restaurant in Bristol then to pay big money at this place. read more

We went to this restaurant for two reasons: 1. We were interested in holding our wedding rehearsal dinner here 2. We'd heard great things about the food and the ambience and thought it would be nice to treat my dad to a meal for his birthday. First, 4 emails and voicemail messages I left for their event coordinator over the course of 3 weeks were never returned. When I finally managed to get a different employee on the phone, he was cordial and friendly and we scheduled a meeting for 1:30 on a Saturday to tour the restaurant and discuss menus, so I was hopeful all would go well. We drove down from NH and arrived shortly after 12 PM for lunch. We were one of only 2 parties in the restaurant at the time, but even so, the service was terrible. Our service was very inattentive, and our lunch order of sandwiches took over an hour to arrive, with no explanation of why it was taking so long. The manager we were scheduled to meet with at 1:30 never showed up. We waited until 2 PM for him, then asked the hostess if someone else could give us a tour of the event rooms. The head chef gave us a tour. While I recognize that the restaurant is in a historic industrial building, the event rooms look like 18th century prison chambers! Very dark, creepy feeling, and few windows. The first floor event room was brighter, but smelled like a nursing home. Our tourguide also introduced us to the event coordinator (the one who never returned my calls or emails). When I told her my name, she said "that name sounds familiar." I said, "that's because I left you several phone messages a month ago." She squirmed and offered up the excuse that she has another client with a name similar to mine. Whatever. While talking to this event coordinator, my fiance, parents and I all got the distinct impression that she was completely uninterested in securing our business and we politely excused ourselves and left. Long story short, my afternoon at the Dewolf Tavern ranks amongst my top 3 worst restaurant experiences to date and I will never return. read more

We went to Dewolf Tavern for the first time this past week and it was very good. The place has a wonderful quiet atmosphere and love the old building. Three of us ordered and naan philly cheese steak and all liked it very much. Our waiter was friendly and humorous and recently moved to RI from Mississippi (mother is a professor at RWU). There were lots of other things on the menu which I want to try and also want to see the view during the daytime as the are right on the water, so we will be back. I also liked that I had a certificate from restaurant.com and would have liked it even more if I had remembered it was in my pocket and I had used it! Next time. read more

We had a party of four on a Saturday night and had to wait almost two hours for our dinner. It seemed that the kitchen was overwhelmed with some private event that evening and couldn't handle their regular customer workload. On top of that, it appeared that they may have lost or misplaced our order. Our waitress was mortified. When I asked to speak with the manager, all she offered was another round of drinks (and we had already had our limit). She then agreed to buy us dessert. Quite honestly - the manager should have comped the entire dinner. Once the manager spoke with us, she avoided us the entire rest of the night. She never came back to apologize, never asked how our dinner was, never asked if there was anything else she could do to help. The manager should be fired given how poorly she handled the situation. She completely avoided us and knew that she was in the wrong. This restaurant should be shut down or go out of business given how poorly they treated us (and we've been there several times before - but never again). Stay away - there are other restaurants that would value your business more than the DeWolf Tavern. Also - the restaurant is so noisy that you need to go outside to hear yourself thinik. read more

Twice we've been to dewolf now, and twice the vegetarian options have been pitiful. There were zero vegan choices, but hey, this is America so what do I expect. Their 'specials week' main course was dry pasta with some damp spinach leaves and half a can of sweetcorn. And the 'cobbler' was a berry soup with a cookie crumbled into it - all sweet sugar and nothing to crunch. I will avoid returning. The meat eaters had a decent meal i think. read more

Caution: We recently contracted with DeWolfe for a rehearsal dinner. While a relatively modest event (approx 33 guests), we had a difficult time dealing with their event coordinator, requiring an inordinate number of emails/phone calls to get it planned. During the reception, we had wanted an open bar, but our guests were charged for drinks before we realized it was happening. To make matters worse, a pre-Bmevent deposit was not credited to my final bill and then my credit card was overcharged on the final billing. Calls to the restaurant management to voice my complaints have, thus far, gone unanswered, necessitating the filing of a dispute with my credit card company. Probably one of the best restaurants in town if not the best. The atmosphere is very classy and the meals were incredible. I really liked how the wait staff consistently kept our water glasses full. The only problem I had with the meal was that my Filet Magnon was extremely rare. I did ask for medium rare but what I got was very rare. However my boyfriends filet magnon was phenomenal and was more of what I was looking for. I'll definitely try Dewolf again soon. read more

This review reflects a visit on a Sunday in January of 2016. The popover was good (extra $ at lunch) but after that it was WAY downhill. Seems like many of the dishes have a strong Indian influence. Ordered Tomato Bisque and it had a strong spice- curry maybe- that was not listed on the menu discription, not my idea of tomato bisque. Then ordered a filet mignon sandwich which was presented as small bits of overlooked brown meat, it had not been filet mignon for a long time. I sent most of it back and even the waiter looked at the sandwich and commented that it didn't look very good. Was very surprised when it was not removed from the bill. I didn't say anything to the waiter but kicked myself later that I didn't. My fault on that one. How does a kitchen have so little pride that it sends out something like the "filet" sandwich that looks so bad, and I can confirm that it was crunchy and tasteless? read more

Very disappointed. My boyfriend and I love this place. We live an hour away and try to come to Dewolfe often. However after last night I'm not sure if we will be back. First off, our server was as dumb as a stump. His name is Kevin. There was a package deal that they had going on. Choose a glass of wine or a beer, soup or salad, filet mignon or lobster, and either ice cream or sorbet for $28. We were interested in the special but neither one of us drink. So we asked Kevin if we could get the special with sodas? He said yes. Another thing we didn't want the dessert so we asked if we could get an additional side to replace the dessert. He checked with his manager and said that was fine. Perfect. As so I thought... As we were waiting for our dinners, our server Kevin went up to the table 2 tables away from us and asked his guests if he should fire their entrees?! Like really? Who does that? Only restaurant workers know what "fire" means. I couldn't believe it. Anyways. Our entrees took almost 45 minutes to come out. We both ordered the filet. I ordered mine medium and my boyfriend ordered his medium well butterflied. Kevin brought out our entrees his filet still had "the stick" in it... Never asked us to cut into them to see if they were cooked to our liking. And "the stick" said medium. That should've been mine. The one that I had not only was it not cooked med well but it was not butterflied. Also, it was the absolute worst filet I've seen and tasted in my life. It makes sense on why it was the special. They were bad cuts. We also had asked for the special vegetable to be corn bread hash instead of the beans. Our lovely server said yes but we got beans instead and never got the other side of corn bread hash that we asked for in replace of our dessert. We finally asked to speak with a manager. We explained what happened. We couldn't eat the food. It was disgusting. The manager was very nice and gave us a gift card and comped our meals. It was just a huge disappointment. Stopped here on a random Subday for a Bloody Mary. It was delicious (and pricey). But it's a fancy pants place, so it was expected. While there, we learned it was Newport Restaurant Week so we came back a few hours later for dinner. The menu is an interesting mix, with several Indian options that seemed out of place yet delicious. We tried the special, which was a whole fish cooked with some delicious spices and served head and tail still on. Great presentation, and the waitress even offered to fillet it for us if we wanted. Food was good but service was PAINFULLY slow. Went in on a Sunday for lunch. I had the chef salad w grilled chicken added to it. I loved the salad. It was a very generous size w lots of fresh fruit (raspberries/strawberries/oranges) there was also a good amount of avocado slices, shredded chicken and a hard boiled egg. It took almost an hour for 1 salad and 2 sandwiches to come out, and the waitress never even apologized, which is bad business IMO. There were only a few other tables at the time, but I overheard the people behind us complaining about the slow service too (it was taking them forever to get their bill and cash out) Not going to rush to get back there anytime soon. read more

I love this place! The food is always good, cooked well, and cooked with an interesting spin using indian spices. I've had both the 'Littlenecks and Linguine' and the 'Seafood Stew'. The littlenecks & linguine were wonderful and had a wonderful balance of the rabe and the clam sauce, and had just the right amount of pasta. The seafood stew was very tasty, lots of seafood. The crab, lobster, clams and mussels were cooked perfectly, although the shrimp were a little on the drier side...but still quite good. The naan pizzas are wonderful and the spicy shrimp appetizer too. Very interesting mix of ingredients in all their dishes, giving them a unique menu. The ambiance is nice as well, warm and cozy with a little sparkle! read more

Good, not great. Despite a lot of negative reviews on service, ours was fine. Hard to beat the ambiance and views. Outdoor seating, right on the water! Dinner is the main reason for the three stars. Started with the shrimp and pea soup, both unbelievably good. Filet, not so much. Was good enough to finish as even a bad filet beats out some other cuts, but was not even close to excellent. One thing i found strange was that the filet was dressed with "short rib drippings." Sounded great, however what was delivered appeared to be deli roast beef cut up? What....it was clearly not the consistency of short ribs, and was rubbery like overcooked roast beef. Order creme brûlée and it was served ice cold? It was hard to say if the was intentional or not. Theres an outside chance they hit it with a torch for a few seconds, but highly suspect. All in all, I would return. If not for dinner, then certainly for drinks on the patio to enjoy the views. I could have missed it on the menu, but we had to asked if they made sangria, which they do. Do yourself a favor and order their "beer sangria."
