Horrible, horrible Italian food. Don't waste your money or time. Yuck! The service was not much better than the food.

This is our favorite place to have a steak for me and the various items my wife orders. I don't know how anyone could possibly rate this eatery any less than 5stars! It's food is fantastic to say the least. It is cooked consistently great! This one of the few places I will not even ask for steak sauce the meat is that good! The service is comparable to the food ; fantastic! Our favorite waitress is Josie, I am pretty sure that is her name. We try to get her section all the time. She's become part of the family by now. The other waitresses are better than average but Josie is the greatest in my opinion! Marco the owner/manager is always there and keeps things going in an awesome way! Kudos to all there. I frequently stop at this location on my way home from work. However, this experience was very unusual. I attempted 15 phone calls to place an order to go, however each attempt was met with a busy signal. When I arrived, I asked the hostess about the phone issue, she completely ignored me and asked what I would like to order. I have never experienced a hostess completely ghosting me. I placed my order and noticed the phone was off the hook hanging off of the counter. I asked again about the telephone and she told me that they were busy and took the phone off the hook. So instead of having my food ready after my 20 minute commute home, I am now having to wait the 20 minutes in the lobby. To add insult to injury, directly after I placed my order they hung up the phone. I am a small business owner and I can't recall ever purposely turning away business. I have never purposely inconvenienced a customer by making them wait, when offering to go service. This is unacceptable and a very major sign of the lack of respect shown customers. read more

We have eaten here a few times and the food was "aaaaghh"/ so-so. The clams in my pasta tasted like they were out of a can and none of their sauces taste any better than out of a can. But!!!!! The pizza is pretty dam good. The crust is not thin, but not too thick and gets a nice toasty char like an east coast brick oven pizza would. And, the cheese gets really ouy-gouy, melted, and stringy like a good quality mozzarella should. We live not too far away and get it delivered 2 or three times a month. If they get it here fast enough it's great, but cold it's still better than the big franchise pizza places. But , still not as good as hot and fresh. read more

Terrible business!!! I just called the Madera location to order for delivery. The price was outrageous - twice what the menu on their website quotes. When I asked the girl about the price, she told me delivery is always dinner prices. This is no where on their website. I decided I would pick it up and was still quoted a much higher price than the menu. When I asked ehy, the girl told me the prices on the menu online are for Fresno. Wtf?? Their website has a drop down menu for location and then the menu. She told me that's how it is and they would not honor the price on listed on their own website. Shockingly, I just met another person staying where I am who had the same experience. Needless to say, I canceled my order and will NEVER eat there again. Horrible business practices!!! This is now way to earn repeat customers, but they obviously don't care about customer service or satisfaction. I wish I could give zero stars! read more

Went in for dinner last night and yes they were busy but that's should prevent what happen. We were seated and it took 20 minutes to get our drink order. We tried to order our food but she said we had to wait until she brought us our drinks. We finally placed our order and then 30-35 mins later we never received our food. When we asked our waitress said it's one of those nights. She started to blame the hostess and then the cooks. After over an hour we just left without our food. We will not be going back anytime soon. We have given them to many chances and they are not trying to get batter. read more

This location is literally just "alright". The one off of Clinton in Fresno is really where the good food and service is. Seems like our last couple or visits here haven't been good. My biggest, biggest complaint is the way they bring these hot plates over a child's head, and sit them right in front of them where obviously they are grabbing everything in arms reach. (I'm talking about a infant who's 7 months). The sauces definitely need more flavor here, and honestly the staff could be a lot nicer as well, not just when you're getting ready to pay/tip either. This is, without doubt, the worst "Italian" restaurant in Madera...but i think in the whole U.S. Last saturday i visit this place with my wife just because Vineyard (a restaurant right in front of Di Cicco's) was closed. First nasty thing that i noticed was the forks and the knifes. Both dirty with dried food stuck on it, i ask to change them and the new one was dirty again but without food so i clean by myself the forks and the knifes with the napkin. Then...paper napkins...seriously? A serious restaurant won't offer cheap paper napkins like mc donalds. However we go ahead and order as appetizer mozzarella sticks and bruschetta. The mozzarella sticks of course are frozen but arrive cold on table, the bruschetta was fine. Then i order a steak and shrimp plate and my wife the cannelloni with meat, well i receive the meat and the shrimp sautee with SPAGHETTI TOPPED WITH TOMATO SAUCE AND ZUCCHINI...what the hell, the menu did not mention that the plate have pasta and zucchini. I order the meat and shrimp cause i don't want eat pasta, however cause i have it i try it and the pasta was nasty because was without salt and over cooked that looks like plastic spaghetti when the sauce taste like lemon (i think a genius in the kitchen just put lemon juice on all around the plate and not only on shrimps). The cannelloni was nasty too, unsalty, over cooked like the pasta, inside was filled with a little bit of chees and spinach, topped with marinara sauce when the menu show MEAT FILLED CANNELLONI WITH CHEESE and TOMATO SAUCE. When my wife ask why the menu show meat and no spinach in the cannelloni, the girl answer that is a meat puree and that even if the menu don't show the spinach, they are part of the filling. So i start to feel pissed off and ask to replace my wife plate with another one and my wife choose O SOLE MIO...another big mistake. This plate arrive with over cooked pasta that taste like nothing, raw nasty mushroom and ultra dry chicken that would make a whale choke too. This plate is supposed to have as topping red sauce too but guess...just lots of oil and a little bit of sauce...of course all UNSALTED. This restaurant has nothing Italian, they don't know how to cook italian food and what they serve is just NASTY FOOD. The easiest thing to do on the earth are spaghetti with tomato sauce and this people ruin that too. Then...why they suppose that the pasta should be present everywhere, even with the steak and shrimp that i order? To justify the price of the plate? I pay 20 bucks for that steak and shrimp and i expect something different and not what they serve to me...if i knew that the steak came with pasta and zucchini i would not order it. I'm a real Italian (not american-italian), grown in Italy for 30 years and knows well the Italian cuisine and Di Cicco's just offends me and my whole country. Whoever gives to this restaurant 2 or more stars is because they have never gone to Italy or eat in a real Italian restaurant in California. This place is better if change it name to something else but please stop offend Italy in this way with those nasty and overpriced plates. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT AND GO SOMEWERE ELSE. Just had the worst service ever at DiCiccos in Madera. Waited over an hour for a salad and a sandwich. Totally forgotten about by the waitress. She was so sorry..she said she forgot to turn our order in. So, to make amends, she wouldn't charge us for our salads. Honey..the salads came with the sandwich. Read your menu. read more

The restaurant is only 1.2 miles from my home, if my car had not broken down I would have just picked it up. So disappointed and dissatisfied. I will never order delivery from here again. I came in an expected good things. The atmosphere was actually rather pleasant with some old Italian favorites playing in a dimly lit old-fashion Italian eatery. The server was nice, but she didn't seem very familiar with the food being served. I asked about the gnocchi and she said it was pre-made, so I went with the "special" combo meal instead. The combo meal had lasagna, spaghetti, and ravioli and even came with a side of minestrone soup and bread. So far so good, that is until my bread came out; it was just preheated freezer tasting bread with no real flavor. I tried a bite of the soup only to find it salty and very hard to swallow because the salt killed it. I ended up trying to dunk some of my bread in minestrone to try and savor some flavor, but to no avail; it just tasted too salty. I had my soup plate taken back half-finished, hoping the combo dish wouldn't be as salty. Unfortunately, I was wrong, but it was worse than that. The first thing I tried was the spaghetti. Twirling a large amount, it already started to feel like spaghetti I get from the frozen section at the store, and it tasted like it to. Too much salt, and the spaghetti had no starch taste to it. I tried the ravioli next. IT WAS COLD INSIDE. That's a big no-no in the "I just served you cold meat ravioli" department, not to mention completely UNSAFE. I should have stopped eating there and sent the plate back, but I wanted to try the lasagna just to make I wasn't missing out. I wasn't missing out; it too was salty and, like the spaghetti, was good enough to be from the frozen food department. So after waiting a little while for my server to come back, she was more than willing to not only take my plate back, but also reheat it. However, I urged her not to since I really didn't want any more salt. I offered to pay for the soup and drink, rather than demand that I wouldn't pay at all. This is where the review should stop. I should have given the restaurant two-stars for "I won't eat there again, but maybe it's not my thing". That is until the manager/owner came out. He first went to the table behind me for some small talk; but honestly, he just wanted to talk to me since I saw him staring at me from the back. So why not just come to me first, apologize, and offer some sort of discount or refund? No, he didn't consider that might be a good idea. Finally when he came to me, although he apologized for the cold ravioli, he questioned why I hadn't touched the rest of the meal since it was hot. Let's rewind; why are you talking about the rest of the plate when just one part of your plate was UNSAFE and COLD? I assured him I had tried the rest of the meal and just wasn't satisfied. If I were running a restaurant and heard the words "not satisfied" I would do anything in my power to make sure the customer left happy. Free wine, free desert, free meal; you name it. But no, instead this guy continues to offer the plate back to me, like it's my fault for not liking it. He even offers to take the Ravioli off so I could eat the rest. I refused his offering and told him, "have you ever heard of the saying too Italian for your own good?" (I meant it in that I, not he, am way too Italian and really enjoy a home-cooked meal). He said "No, are you Italian, I've never seen you around here before?". I tell him I was born in New York and he immediately counters and says he's from Italy. I ask him "Oh really (I was trying to be friendly), which part, Sicily (where my families from)?" and he replied, quite simply "No." and so I asked "Milan?" but for some weird reason he turned his head away and didn't answer. I wasn't trying to be rude, I have family all over Italy so I know the surroundings, and if you say you were born in Italy, I'd just like to know where to ensure you aren't full of it. Eventually he turns back to me and says "You know I haven't seen you around here before, are you new here?" Wait a second, this conversation went from being about your poor, salty food to where I'm from, and yet you still have yet to try and compensate for my unfavorable meal other than saying you'd give it back without the cold part? ARE YOU SERIOUS? When I started telling him that I was new in town, he again did that weird ignore me for some reason look, and wished me good night. This guy was a joke and it really infuriates me that someone could be so clueless as to how to handle a unhappy customer. If anything it made the problem worse, cause I'm writing this one-star review. I understand he was trying to be friendly, but your business comes first along with my happiness. I ended up paying for 4.80 for a bowl of soup and soda I could have bought from the store. Give me a break. If you can avoid this restaurant at all cost you might get COLD and UNSAFE meals as well, and don't say I didn't warn you about the creepy owner/manager. read more

I give four stars based really on one dish that I love! It is called "Scarface". Scarface is a pasta dish with rigatoni, chicken, parmesan, and mushrooms in a cream sauce. It is the BOMB! ...The dinner comes with choice of soup or salad. Went in today for co-worker's birthday during lunch. We came early, around 11:45am to beat the lunch hour rush. Our group size was 6 and they told us to wait a second so they can put some tables together. A minute later the hostess lets us know that our table is ready for us but that our waitress is not ready. We didn't get seated until 12:05pm. By this time the place was getting crowded and our waitress was nowhere to be found. She finally comes up to us and takes our drink and food order. We didn't get our drinks until 12:25pm and our food didn't arrive until 12:45. I ordered the turkey sandwich with NO mayo and of course when I start eating my sandwich, I notice a big blob of mayo in it. I then had to hunt for the waitress since she was MIA throughout the whole time there. Surprisingly, it only took 5 minutes for them to make me another one. I don't know why they couldn't be that fast on the first sandwich. The food was okay but definitely not worth waiting for so long for. We shouldn't have to call on our waitress for drink refills. Up until this past Saturday night, I would have only been able to give DiCiccios of Madera 4 stars. The extra star has now been earned due to the addition of one sorely needed item not on the menu--a waitperson with confidence, knowledge, presence, promptness, and the willingness to go the extra mile or even two in order to give us a maximum dining experience. Finally! For the the first time in 25 years. Her name is Tawny, and I hope she stays there. I also hope management uses her to train and educate the other well-meaning but "bumpkinish" wait staff. A very close second to Tawny is Della, but haven't seen her there in recent times, maybe we're just not coming in on her days. She's been a welcome fixture there for years and years. But, again, I must stress--ask for Tawny's section! I can't let pass without comment the remarks I've read by a few reviewers who think DiCiccio's of Madera needs an update or "makeover". Please, if you're reading that stuff "Mr. DiC." pay no attention. Just keep what you already have clean and bring back the cloth napkins, and you'll be the perfect Old School Italian restaurant that once graced small towns all over North America-- until the 2nd gen. Italian Americans moved on up in the work place and began demanding the ambiance one finds in the Merced DiCiccios--too cold, too slick, to quasi-uppity. For the first time, last Saturday I ordered their house made pasta, alforno (baked) with mushrooms and melted cheese. I also just had to have a side of meatballs with sauce. The pasta may visually appear the same as any pasta out of the box, but it's in the taste and texture that you'll feel and taste the difference. It's subtle, but it's there and you'll come to insist upon it. If you've ever tried really good fresh pasta that you buy in the chilled section of the supermarket, that's been cooked al dente, then you know what I'm talkin' about. The Calzones, which are really inside-out pizzas, or pizza turnovers, are perfect for those who want more of the toppings, only now they're stuffings. Thick and crammed full of ingredients, you won't regret it, IF you do as I tell you: 1. Order it oven baked, otherwise you'll get it deep fried which will run into the thousands of totally unnecessary grease-laden calories. 2. Order the sauce on the side for dipping, otherwise they'll ladle a ton of it over the top and make that beautiful baked crust all soggy--you wouldn't think they'd have to be told they're defeating their own purpose, but, they do. 3. If you're ordering pepperoni, be sure to tell them you want it sliced or you'll get it diced in stingy little squares. Follow those 3 simple rules and you'll be as happy as I always am when I leave there. read more

By far the worst food I have EVER had. Where can I start? Let's start with the pizza, frozen dough, canned mushrooms and what they called sausage but I think was chopped lunch meat. Now for the "Prawns", they where frozen breaded shrimp that I paid $5.95 for 5 that you can get for $3.00 a dozen in the frozen food isle. And to top it all off the marinara sauce they gave me for the "Prawns" was freaking catchup!!!! Calling this place Italian is like calling Taco Bell Mexican. Greetings; Very seldom will I write a negative review ... BUT ... this is one of my few exceptions. Let's go through (some of) the list of fiascos: 1) AFTER ordering, we were informed they were out of homemade bread and had sent someone to the store to buy some. But they would give us crackers until the store bought bread got there. 2) My fiancée's Shrimp Alfredo was so "pasty" tasting and slimy,and the sauce so dry, she couldn't eat the noodles ... AND ... the shrimp (which are apparently frozen) were SO OVERCOOKED they were similar in consistency and flavor to that of a rubber Superball from the 1970's. *I sent it back and had her reorder IT WAS SO BAD.* 3) I ended up fighting with roughly a 16 hour bout of food poisoning from the (taste and consistency of frozen then cooked) Tortellini Alfredo that I had ordered. 4) My fiancée's replacement order of "Mushroom Spaghetti" WAS EDIBLE, however some of the mushrooms were raw and the rest had the flavor and consistency of canned. 5) On apositive note: We DID GET ONE BASKET of warm store bought bread about half way through our meals. ** There are FEW PLACES I WILL NOT give a second chance to, and try again ... but this is definitely one restaurant that has made that list.** read more

Service was decent duing lunchtime, it was nice to see the owner checking on the clients even during busy hour. Food is ok as Italian places go. I ordered the clam chowder which was good. I am a Supervisor at a local hotel. It is my responsibility to tend to my guests needs and accommodate them as needed. Tonight, I had some guests check in and wanted some great Italian food that delivered in since one of them was disabled. Of course I referred them to Diciccos here in Madera. They ordered their dinner, of course delivery. Upon receiving it, they realized there were no utensils. They called the restaurant and told them they didn't have any utensils and they were told that they have to ask for them upon ordering or get them from the hotel. I have ordered from them numerous times and requested delivery and have always received my utensils. I called and advised them that they are contradicting themselves. The hostess was very insincere and lacked any sort of ownership or empathy as they usually do. How are out-of-towners supposed to know that they need to request utensils. This may seem petty but I think it's b.s. Also, telling them that they need to get it from the hotel is bogus! All outgoing meals, anywhere you eat, even through drive-thrus, will give you utensils! The guests call me and tell me that they did not receive what they ordered and to top it off, their food was cold! These employees here only care about their tips and could care less about customer service/satisfaction. I think they need to take a few courses in hospitality and customer service. Having your serv safe card doesn't qualify you as being exceptional in customer satisfaction. I will no longer be sending any of my guests to this restaurant. And I always suggest Dicicco's everyday! I eat here a lot. If it wasn't consistently good I would be going someplace else. The calzoni is so good I compare other restaurant's calzones to DiCicco's. i haven't found one I like better. The servers are wonderful, the help each other and they remember you from previous visits. Grilled chicken over penne pasta with garlic and olive oil is one of my favorites. Linguini and clams is another favorite. When I want to stuff myself I'll order the large combo pizza so I can take some home. Marco, the owner always welcomes me and his other guests too. Wow! $70.97 on two meals and two appetizers delivered and the order was wrong and literally so INEDIBLE I had to call and ask for it to be picked back up for return and my money back! HORRIBLE!!! And Josie, the Manager was dispicable! I ordered Linguine with Clams Regular Sauce...zero sauce and I mean not 1/2 teaspoon of sauce. The Ribeye Medium-Well with Vegetables and Pasta but NO Pasta and the Bread for both was burnt black (Josie said, "I know, everyone has complained today, they burned the bread this morning.") Guess what, not my problem, if the bread was burned this morning then inform your customers! Do not pass it off as okay! My salads were wrong, seriously, how is it possible to mess up salad? But, both were. My Fried Zucchini with Ranch...hmmm, no ranch with it. I literally called back twice and said, come get your food and I want my money back! Horrible!!! Very friendly, everyone these is very personable. The food is always great, can't say that I have had anything that I don't like. The clam chowder with the warm bread is a must have on a Friday. My kids are usually picky but when it comes to DiCicco's there are no complaints. The calzones are also very good, we usually get the sauce on side just because the flavor of the meat and cheese is so yummy by itself. I'm not sure what night it is, I want to say Friday's also, they have someone who plays the accordion. He does an amazing job, another addition to the cheerful atmosphere. We leave there full and relaxed, I recommend the experience to anyone read more

We came in for lunch with a party of 5. The hostess asked how many people in the party and after asking said it would be 20 minutes. We waited, and waited and saw other patrons come in a be seated, so after 20 minutes we again asked about the wait time and the hostess said she did not have our name down. She placed our name on the list, still patrons were being seated before us. Finally the hostess said she had 2 tables far from each other and we could take those and be split up- we agreed since we only had 20 minutes left of lunch hour. When we were seated, we were all seated in the same table. It was so long of a wait that one of the persons in our party had to order to go and was not able to eat with us. When we ordered our food- soup and salad to make it as quick as possible; the salad was average and the minestrone soup was very bland, mostly potatoes and cabbage. The bread was excellent- so I'll give one star. I've been to several Dicicco's in Fresno and Clovis and have always had great experiences. This place has delicious food but the service isn't so great. Were sat and when the server came to take our order she was very loud and not very nice and greeting. I asked for bread, she said they were out and someone went to get some. When they did she just practically tossed the basket on the table and as she was walking by to another table she said "its not ours but its good" and just kept walking. I've been eating here my whole life and Madera DiCicco's never disappoints. The fresh bread is always warm and delicious, service is outstanding, and they even deliver! I ordered 2 spaghetti dinners for pickup and I want to be respectful but this is by far the worse experience I have had with pickup of any restaurant. It looked like they just threw in this foil tin container. My meatballs tasted terrible like it was made with something other than ground beef. I could not stomach this meal, at worst I paid $25 for this Meal. Extremely unsatisfied, never will I eat at any of your establishments in the future. What a great experience. We celebrated my wife's birthday here a few nights ago. We had a group fifteen people for the occasion. The staff at Dicicco's made the evening special. The food was wonderful, classic Italian-American dishes with fresh ingredients and vivid flavors. The food was terrific but staff took the evening to another level with their warm, friendly demeanor and their attentiveness. Sometimes restaurants that have been in a city for a long time 'coast' on their past successes. This was not the case with Diciccio's. They exceeded our expectations! read more

This is my favorite Italian restaurant to go to. I am a loyal regular because I work nearby and love the atmosphere. I usually order the chicken fettuccini Alfredo, lasagne, turkey sandwich, or grilled chicken salad. It's all good just depends on my mood portions are big and warm bread before your meal is always great. Most people are great there is one waitress that we try to avoid not because she's rude just slow and forgets things we ask for. I love when we get to see Marco he's an amazing part of this place always comes on the floor to greet people and check quality of food. If there's anything you take issue with if Marcos there he will fix it! I love this place and as for the air conditioner sometimes it goes out it's an old building believe me when I say it bothers the employees including Marco as much as anyone. read more
