When this place opened up, I didn't realize this was a popular chain with 400+ locations all over the country. This is the first one in the Portland area and it's got some pretty good stuff going for it. My favorites include the sausage (both kinds), coleslaw, chicken breast, ham, baked beans, and ribs. The mashed potato casserole was just ok. It definitely needed to be heated up. It was too cold for the cheese to soften let alone melt. The biscuit was kinda meh...a bit too doughy but it's starting to grow on me. The pulled pork and brisket were big disappointments in the flavor department. In terms of texture, they're excellent, but you really need to slather on the sauce to cover up the dry and unseasoned meat. The dinner area is small and can get very crowded quickly during the lunch rush. The floor also has this weird greasy-slippery feel to it. Not sure what's up with that... watch your step? The big plus are the people working there. Always friendly and pleasant and eager to offer helpful suggestions if you're stuck on what to order. Dickeys gave it a good try but just didn't make the grade. The ribs were ok but the brisket was so dry and tasteless it was ridiculous, not even the bbq sauce did any good. The sides were blah at best. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Ordered the half rack of ribs with the side of Mac and cheese and barbecue beans. The best part of the entire meal was the Dr. Pepper. The ribs were stiff and room temperature, majority of the meat I couldn't chew because of how stiff it was. The mac and cheese was cold and nothing special about the flavor. They're getting three stars based on the food only. I drove from west Hillsboro after ordering a family pack online for $50+ after tip. I get everything home and find I received 3 of the 6 dinner rolls that came with the order. I called to inform them of the mistake and whoever answered apologized but offered nothing for the mistake. I asked "what are you going to do for me?" And she said she'd have to get the manager. The manager picked up after a minute and apologized again and all she would do was refund the cost of three dinner rolls. Now I'm not a restaurant owner but if I was and I had a customer drive a 20 mile round trip and spend $50.00 to pick up food at my establishment there would have been at least a $10-$20 gift card in the mail to see if I could convince the customer to give us another chance. The refund of 3 dinner rolls will not do that. There are obviously people managing that location that have no idea what customer service is. read more

I happened to be in the Murray-Scholls shopping center and saw Dickey's Barbecue Pit. Since I was looking for something different for dinner, this sounded good. I love BBQ and have been to a number of Portland's best places (think Matt's, Botto's, Podnah's, and so forth). I didn't know Dickey's was a national chain or I wouldn't have even tried. Well, I did try, and I won't be back. I'm giving one star because the two young women working at the time were very nice, polite, and responsive. Otherwise, the meal was pretty much a bust and was worth maybe one star itself. I ordered a lean brisket plate with sides of Jalapeno beans and Caesar salad. I also got three sauces: Texas, Hot, and Original. I ordered to go and by the time I got home, maybe 15 minutes later, nothing was hot. I don't believe it was hot to begin with. The brisket was dry and chopped into lots of small pieces. Although I had asked for lean, there was still a noticeable amount of fat. Also, I wasn't asked if I wanted sliced or chopped brisket. Had I been asked, I would have said sliced. Anyway, I got what I described above. There was no sense of a real barbecue flavor and only the sauces, which were pretty good, kept it from going into the trash. Given the excellent brisket available at so many other Portland restaurants (even Busters is much better), I wouldn't recommend the brisket at this place to anyone. The beans were so-so. Nothing special. The Caesar salad was a joke and I should have known better. Some lettuce, carrot with a packaged Caesar dressing that was quite inauthentic. Given that this meal cost just under $18, I would say it's a poor value. I will definitely not be back knowing we have so much better in Portland read more

There are restaurants I drive through, restaurants I walk into to grab take out and restaurants where part of the experience is going in, sitting down and eating. Dickey's to me is a walk in and grab some takeout type of place. Sure you could go in and eat when on a lunch break or out running errands but that is not how I roll. When I have worked a 12 hour day I do not want to talk to you....I barely want to grab takeout on my way home so I can survive the night. The last thing I want is some moron to screw up my order fake a phone smile when they could care less. Easy online order page...what??!! And my order was fast , no bs and correct! Their meats were all excellent and moist though I liked the sliced brisket over the chopped more. For sides we tried the beans (a little runny for my taste but great flavor), mac and cheese (standard but good), the baked potato casserole (rather tasty and something a bit different) and the fried onion strings (OMG YES...these were amazing and did not last long). I was disappointed that they do not have corn bread like many of the other reviews...that just seems unnatural for a BBQ place to not have corn bread. I will say though that their little sesame rolls are tasty but I still would have preferred some corn bread. Was craving some food but wasn't sure what I was wanting. Saw this place and had to give it s try. I'm a sucker for BBQ. First thing I noticed when I walked in was the friendly staff. They greeted me with smiles and were polite and willing to help me in ordering. I got the pulled pork and the beef brisket with macaroni and bbq beans. The meat was perfect. Maybe Texas really isn't that good. I actually remember going to Dickeys when I went on a trip to Dallas. It was in the Dallas Airport. I remember not being super impressed, but not bing super disappointed either. I even took home my big yellow cup. Several years have passed since then and my culinary eyes have been opened wide thanks to some new experiences around my own city. I always tell myself never to order brisket because it just won't compare to my favorite places. I didn't listen. The first piece I ate was actually pretty good, almost pot roast like. The others were dry and flavorless. Gotta drown it is sauce. The BBQ Beans were not too bad. A little spicier than I expected, and not as sweet. Probably the most authentic part of the dish. The cheddar sausage was bad. It actually was a little cold and the texture was supremely offputting. Avoid this one. The mac and cheese was the worst. It was really mushy and there was not real cheese flavor. No sharpness, no creaminess, just bland mushy blob. I do love me some BBQ. I like this place. I like their food. I like that I had a coupon for them from Rest.com. The guys here were super friendly, helpful and seem to be enjoying themselves. When I struggled over side dish choices, one suggested the baked potato casserole. Excellent, Smithers! When I mentioned Yelp, he said oh good, we're only at a 3.5 now. In a big mall of little strip malls (or so it looks to me) somewhere in the anal cavitties of Beaverton lye this bbq joint. At 12 or so on a Thursday, the place had a few customers, which grew until most tables were filled by the time we left. Order at the conveyor area on the right, drinks/sauce/shiny plasticware down at the end on the left. There's a sign up front with daily specials. So armed with a coupon, I got the pulled pork and spicy sausage with 2 sides for about $9 in addition to my rib plate. The rib plate with 2 sides and rolls ($13.50) was a good amount of food. The ribs were really delicious and fall off the bone but slightly overdone. Loved the sausage and decent (also a little overdone) pulled pork. Yummy baked beans, decent mac & cheese (more seasoning, I think), I loved the baked potato casserole (but it really is mashed), and the cole slaw was good, not too heavy and fresh. I just finished the leftover this morning and cole slaw definitely stood up! My friend's waffle fries were excellent! Three sauces to choose from - basic but good. Shiny silver plasticware. Soda comes in giant size. I mixed 4 sodas for the perfect cola, diet and pepper mix - cos that's how I roll. There's even free soft serve ice cream!!!! What? Is this a chinese buffet? But like a dolt, I fogot to go back for mine. So, in sum: The location, well... ya know. The place seems clean but nothing to write home about decor-wise. But otherwise, I dig this place. An extremely well themed barbecue pit with fresh pine walls and Dickey's historically themed photos; the food is fresh and prepared fast. It's opening day and they're serving a Meat Plate ($10.50) or a Big Barbecue Sandwich ($5.95 + $3.50 2 Sides). The pulled pork is very tender, the bun is fresh toasted with a machine that coats it in oil then roasts it. I chose fried okra, very crispy and fresh as well as waffle iron fries. I had the privilege of being shown the smoker, 500lbs of hickory meat smoked tender up to 13 hours; the meat is not over sauced, no need for it and one has the option of adding more if wanted. They have a selection of soft drinks and large re-usable cups, the ice is the super fine soft cube style; sides of sweet, original and spicy BBQ sauce as well as pickles, lemon wedges and onions you get to take as a side. The room is garnished with a flat screen playing football and a southern-style chandelier. Coming from a Le Cordon Bleu student, very cleanly and well performed! We ordered our dinners with a coupon and added additional items but when we got our dinner home, there were several things missing from our order. We reached out to the owner/manager who was very rude and told us that we should just be happy that we got the discount we did with our coupon and refused to compensate us with the food we were missing or monetarily. After arguing back-and-forth by email he agreed to reimburse five dollars to my card but the total of items we were missing was $12. Here is a chain that feels like a mom and pop shop. Reasonably prices meals for the portions. Every Wednesday I come around for the 9 dollar westerner, pulled pork topped with a sliced polish sausage, cheese, pickle, and onion all served on buttered sandwich. This meal comes with 2 sides. I go with the rich mac and cheese and the made by order criss cut fries. I have also been known to snag a beer on occasion to wash it down. If your feeling some quick mouth watering bbq check this joint out. When I'm hungry and adventurous I turn to this site to help me nom. Hope this helps any of you. A vendor brought our office lunch in today and had Dickey's cater. Holy awesome spicy & sweet barbecue sauce Batman! Every last one of us went in for seconds. However; that wasn't to say the rolls weren't buttery and worth a second grab or the creamy coleslaw wasn't creamy. I was just too full to take another helping of everything.
