Since arriving to Phoenix I've been told I need to check out Diego Pops at least once a week. Finally got to visit, but I would say it was a bit disappointing. The space is beautiful with neon signs, cute art, and plenty of seating both inside, at the bar, and on the patio, but they don't take reservations and the wait was longgggg. Cocktail menu mainly features drinks made with tequila except one that's vodka and one that's a sangria, but I'm sure you can order something off-menu as the bar is fully stocked. The sangria was great; a friend got the Tropic Like It's Hot Margarita, which is made with coconut tequila, is definitely spicy, and comes with a half-lime lit on fire (very cool!); and my other friend got the watermelon mint margarita. Unfortunately, all of our food was lukewarm or borderline cold. The tacos are on the small side but bursting with flavor; there was the green chili chicken which came in a yummy and crunchy tortilla taco, the Al Pastor which is a classic pork taco with pineapple, the crispy shrimp, and the grilled adobo chicken. The tacos came out pretty fast but we didn't get the street corn queso until we finished them; it was also unfortunately lukewarm. Alyssa, our waitress, was really nice and attentive. Yum!! Super delicious spot in Old Town Scottsdale. My old friend and I went here for some drinks and tacos. I ordered a few margaritas and two tacos: beef machaca and charred skirt steak. Margaritas were very good and the tacos were excellent! The beef machaca taco comes in a crispy tortilla, topped with cotija cheese, corn salsa and pickled onions. The skirt steak taco comes topped with caramelized onion, cilantro and red onion. I really want to try all of their other tacos now! Good service and the ambiance is very fun! The food and margaritas are amazing! I loved the street corn, queso, prickly pear margarita and strawberry margarita. The restaurant is also so cute, take lots of pictures! It was a little hot inside but they had lots of air conditioning and fans available and had them directly facing us and we were super comfortable. We did not have a great experience with the event coordinator that you are required to speak with to place a reservation for large parties. We were under 1 person the threshold of 10 guests 48 hours before our reservation date. We now had 9 confirmed guests because people had unfortunately tested positive for Covid and were unable to make it. I told her that we would still pay the minimum required for 10 people as well as pay the cancellation fee. She told us we would need to have 10 people present. Monetarily the business would not have lost anything and we have had this reservation since March so it was definitely frustrating and stressful. Even more so that her direct number kept saying it was disconnected and she's not present at the restaurants so it was difficult to reach her via phone. Thankfully, the manager Sam was amazing and really made up for this experience from a customer service perspective and we really appreciate his flexibility, understanding and great hospitality. He truly saved our experience at Diego Pops and we are so grateful. All in all, we had a great time and I still feel the business itself deserves 5 stars even if one person provided poor service. read more

Bar space needs to be retrained on the basics of hospitality. Order fired a ridiculous amount of food all at once so by the time we made it through our apps our tacos were freezing. Female bartender (I want to say Alex?) was the exception, very nice and welcoming, recommendations for food, on top of drinks, and she did offer to have a new order of food but after having the shitty experience with her colleagues behind the bar (two guys who think far too much of themselves) we were good to leave. We spent maybe 30 minutes in total from being sat and then leaving. We didn't eat 3/5 tacos we ordered because they were freezing by the time we finished the apps. We had asked the bar tender (not Alex) to course it but he could care less. He and the bar back also laughed at the back of house employee when he came out with glassware and mistakenly broke some. Clearly we were upset and displeased with the service and the lack there of a **** given by the male bartender and his bar back but nothing was comped or checked in on. If you're in Scottsdale for drinks at the bar it seems fine, everything is pre batched and prepped so don't expect fireworks but it's good. Maybe for table service there was a better chance we wouldn't have been treated like shit and like we were actually there to spend money and tip these folks. To be clear - Diego pops gets a five star rating for its experience (not the food). Upon arriving to Scottsdale, this was the first bachelorette party stop. We didn't have a reservation and the wait time was 50 minutes so we decided to chill at the bar. While at the bar we were offered free delicious watermelon shots by one of the waitresses. Once we were seated we all began catching up. We also saw at least four other bachelorette parties . It seems that if your in Scottsdale for a bachelorette this is a must try stop on the list. Dinner itself was good, but this is clearly not an authentic Mexican restaurant. I chose to have my birthday party of 20 people here. I have gone to MANY scottsdale restaurants and have NEVER took the time to write a negative complaint on a restaurant. Everything that could've gone wrong went wrong. The service was extremely rude, and made the experience dreadful. They never took the time to talk to the table or accommodate for a big group. After working in the service industry, I have zero sympathy for the poor service. Have driven past this place countless times and always thought it would be very small, but the outdoor patio and indoor seating area is spacious and able to accommodate larger parties. The flavors melded well, and the egg was a unique touch. The crema gave it a very interesting color, fun to eat! Grilled Street corn: Corn was fresh, cheeto dust was fun, hit the spot, simple enough. Grilled Plantain: I got it in bowl form, but know that it's available in taco form. The bowl comes with option of rice (cilantro/coconut) and beans (black/brown). I ate wayyyy too many chips, otherwise this bowl would've at least been mostly gone. Tangy, sweet, salty...this bowl offered all of the flavors you could possibly want. I would suggest a better vegetarian protein option such as tofu. Other than that, a great meal and a great time!
