What a freakin menu!!!! I have always adored Diego's because their staff is usually upbeat and helpful, and I am so impressed by the consistency with which they churn out so much magical food. This town, although we're making progress, has always been severely lacking in South American (and really anything other than lame ass American) cuisine, but Diego's has been a staple for decades now, always providing high quality food that is such a delight. Their carne asada is the best in town and everything they make is seasoned to perfection! So grateful Diego's has stuck it out through the pandemic and hoping to go dine indoors there again soon :) read more

Highly recommend this spot. Found it on yelp and choose to eat here with eight other family members after we all met up in Grass Valley for a small reunion and it didn't disappoint. They overcharged the bill. After asking to rectify it , we paid the bill, but few days later I noticed that the credit card was overcharged . Had to call this place few times before someone a day later returned the call and confused me with someone else about a refund ( does that mean it happens often ? ). Asked to rectify the invoice, but has been almost 2 weeks and they have not done it yet. Besides, food was nothing special and they charged 2 times for a coffee refill. We came here for lunch and was excited after seeing the great reviews. I'm hoping our experience was just our timing. Apparently the staff got slammed right before we got there so we caught the back end of the rush which meant they were in no rush to serve us. We asked multiple times for chips and salsa, was served the wrong beer and then told they had to change the keg for the one I ordered so that was off the table. Patio was cool. Fajitas were good however everything else we got came out cold or soggy. If we go back I hope it's more in line with the better reviews. read more

A co-worker was going to pick herself up some lunch from Diego's. I asked if she would grab me something too. I had never been there so I went safe and ordered steak taquitos. The shell was nice and crunchy but the steak had no flavor and so cooked it was like beef jerky. The guacamole didn't have any flavor neither. Sorry Diego's, I'm not impressed. read more

Both the food and our waitress were great, however our experience was completely ruined by one of the other waitresses. She yelled at us from across the restaurant within seconds of our son kicking the booth we were sitting in. We were already in the process of picking him up so we could transfer him to a high chair, but she took it upon herself to berate us in front of the entire restaurant. I would be embarrassed if she worked at my place of business. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone. There are way too many restaurants with good food and staff that go above and beyond to tolerate being treated so poorly. read more

OMG I stumbled upon this place, well I did look at Yelp first and saw the great reviews, but I was in town for business. I had a nice table for one at Diego's. My server was very friendly and attentive and I noticed a sign in the back for the staff that said something like " work hard and be nice". And they were. I had a great complimentary tray of bread with herb butter and some other sauce. Both delish. And the enchiladas. Pork was the best. Beef good too. I loved all of it. So the owner of Diego's contacted me after 5 months and accused me of getting the restaurant wrong, and then accused me of outright lying. Why in the world would I lie? I didn't ask for anything but an apology - no free food, no deep discount, nothing. No ulterior motives here. My phone call went unanswered and my reviews went unanswered for 5 months. Bad service is one thing. A character attack is quite another. I am insulted and indignant. I hope everyone else has a better experience than I did. read more

Food was good as usual and service was great. 3 stars were given because the bill showed what 18,20and 22% tip would be. In reality the suggested amounts specified on the bill were actually 22,24 and 26 %. Our bill was $51 and the suggested 18% was $11.15, should have been $9.18. It's bad enough now that prices are higher and everyone expects bare minimum of 18% tip but now the businesses are entering much higher amounts on their suggested receipts, knowing that patrons aren't going to do the math. Second time eating out in 7 months and couldn't have picked a better more beautiful patio to dine on. The food is delicious and the music playing has been good it's like a DJ is playing late 1970's Laurel Cyn vibe live soundtracks. The calamari was so rubbery it was inedible. They were charging anyway. They had an attitude and were terribly rude. Finally removed charge.

We have always liked Diegos and have come for years. The service used to be so warm and friendly and the prices were amazing. It's fine, now, but less consistent. The food is great, and we have never had a truly bad experience, but it is often very crowded and the indoor space is very loud and tight which is unpleasant for me. Most will dig the energy and charm, but I personally have to be in the right mood to come or I get easily overwhelmed. read more

By far one of my favorite restaurants in town! Their fresh fries are absolutely to die for, I've never had better! My go to order is the churrasco steak sandwich, but I've tried many other dishes and all are simply divine! I could easily eat every meal, every day, from Diego's! The staff always makes you feel more like family than a paying customer. The waitresses and waiters are so gracious and warm, very attentive and always deliver an order exactly how it was requested. If you're looking for a warm, "home cooked" meal, this is your spot! Such a gem in our cozy little town! read more

I was really hoping to love this place panqueques - savory pancakes essentially. Looks great when served but are really bland - lacking any depth of flavor. One was a meat lovers - it tasted like the beef had all the taste boiled out of it. Incredibly bland where I was hoping for so much more. Didn't try the more Mexican style items but based on these, very disappointing. Ended up leaving a fair bit - no point in eating something that really didn't taste of anything. Very much a shame but I'll still give it another try to be fair. read more

Went for vegan options, but couldn't tell what was vegan on the menu (not marked, some listed vegetarian, but didn't know if beans/rice etc was vegan. None of the waiters/staff in the front of house were wearing masks. When I asked if there were vegan options or a vegan menu the hostess responded "it'a on the menu. Read it." Such a rude tone and so off putting, we just left. read more

My wife and eldest daughter absolutely loves this restaurant from food to staff and not much of a waiting time. It was a great experience for me as well but the time we came to visit I just got over being sick so didn't eat much, but definitely really great food. Wow. Just wow. From the super welcoming young (tall) man who seated us, to the sweet and gracious server....we felt right at home immediately. The food was OUTSTANDING. The yummy homemade butter rolls to get things rolling....an amazing Sangria, one of the best shrimp appetizers on the planet....my Panqueque Especial was one of the best meals I've ever had. Truly. Now, mind you it's large enough to feed a small family....and I was only able to stuff myself with possibly 1/4 of the entree....but wow, so fresh and delicious! The grilled pineapple, fresh corn, the grilled veggies, the homemade guac....it was just sublime. I'll be dreaming of this place for months to come! We picked this place for dinner to try something different. The outside is decorated in a bright and welcoming way. Because of the rain and cold temperature nobody was using outside seating. There were forks and spoons cemented in the concrete with tiles outside. Next to our tables inside we were treated to an up close view of a beautiful mosaic table. The place is small but despite that they were able to accommodate a very large group (maybe 10-12 people) by pushing a long table up next to a booth. Started off with the appetizer special, vegetable empanadas which had a goat cheese veggie filling. Soooo amazing! The vegetable filling including mushrooms and bell peppers was divine (they tasted sautéed) and the goat cheese sauce was just wonderful and creamy. For the bread we were brought some very soft fluffy and flakey rolls with a dipping sauce that tasted like the liquid part of ceviche with the cilantro in it. I ordered the ordered the Panqueque and my companion ordered the Panqueque especial. They were both huge portions! Definitely one entree would have been enough for the both of us. I ordered mine with pulled pork. We also both got the soup of the day, roasted butternut squash. Service was great, good choice for dinner. read more

Dined at Diego's on a busy Friday night. The patio was full with a long wait, so agreed to dine in. The waitress did not wear a mask for most of the meal. I had the chorizo panqueque, a burrito that is wrapped in a crepe instead of a tortilla. The portion was large, the flavor was straight forward, but nothing special. The margarita was tasty. They seem to take pride in the business and want to take care of their customers, but dining inside with a waitress that refuses to wear a mask during the pandemic is a real miss for me. Definitely a place to stop if you are cruising through town or a local. Their Chilean inspired menu is, for lack of better terms, a more fresh, healthy form of your classic Mexican menu. They have everything from calamari to pupusas to pesto salmon (special). Their rice and beans aren't weighed down under cheese and their bread rolls--- omg. So good. Especially with the garlic butter. I had the fish tacos and they were perfect. I loved that they came with guacamole but still weren't heavy. They had a nice thin tortilla. Their meals also come with grilled/sautéed veggies which were yummy! Would definitely recommend! read more
