Back in college, a Dig Inn location opened up near campus and it was an instant hit! I loved the idea of providing fast casual yet health-conscious, sustainable, and nutritious food. Its been several years since I've eaten at a Dig Inn, so I was happy to stop by for dinner with a friend recently. The basic concept starts with a base (rice, farro, or salad) then your choice of sides (so many hot or cold selections to choose from!), a protein, and dressing on the side. I started with the farm greens w/ mint as my base then added roasted sweet potatoes and broccoli w/ lemon for my 2 sides, and tofu w/ roasted onion for my protein . I've ordered from this Dig multiple times through food apps and I appreciate how consistent they are. They don't skimp on the portions and they haven't gotten an order incorrect (at least for me). I always build my own bowl, which is one base and three sides (either 3 veggie sides or 1 protein + 2 veggie sides). The charred chicken is delicious, and the sides I recommend are the mac&cheese and the cashew kale caesar. You can also get a few sauces for free- you can't go wrong with pesto and garlic aioli. Dig!!!! Where have you been all my life?! Great tasting colorful food that doesn't leave me feeling like crap afterwards. Ive tried most things on the menu here and Im a fan of the chicken thighs which comes out moist and flavorful. The broccoli is always charred perfectly tender crisp. I recently got the Mins favorite chicken and it was ok. The chicken itself was tasty but the combo of salad, green beans, and potatoes for some reason didn't go together. The dinner comes with nice little squeezie bottles of dressing which was kinda cool though. One of the best parts here is the experience of ordering; the staff are kind and funny. Everyone knows Dig Inn is by far my favorite lunch spot to go to. I've spent sooo much of my time and money at the UWS location because the food is so good and consistently good at that. However, as I have begun to venture to other locations outside of 112 and broadway, I've come to realize that not all Dig Inns are created equally. I stopped by this one with the hopes of having a quick dinner at my fave spot and it fell short. The one great thing is the set up and decor, lots of big tables for groups and some wall outlets for those of us who love to have semi-dead phones. First thing that made me sad was that they had no salmon. I come to dig inn for many things, and salmon is at the top of that list. So to all the higher execs, please just put it on the menu at every location. So I settled for steak which ended up being sub-par. Next, the sides were really sad. Not a lot of variety in the hot sides, and no Mac and cheese. The greens that I ordered were made different from uptown and not as good. I went with apples because of the lack of hot sides diversity and only ate 2-3. I left out still hungry, annoyed to be wasting the food I tossed, and disappointed in my favorite spot. I really hope they make changes to this spot because it could be a real hit on Lexington. read more

The service is not good or bad usually. They don't really greet you nicely but they aren't rude or anything. Today's service was horrible. I ordered a meal for 4 which is not cheap at all. When ordering, the website shows pictures of two containers of sauces that you get with your family meal for 4. When I got there I noticed that I had six of the tiny sauces. I was surprised but not an issue, I just asked for 2 more. They weren't even filled up all the way. The young lady tells me I can only have 6. I say when I come in and buy a meal for one, I get 2 little sauces, so I should at least get 2 per person if I'm buying for 4 people. She says no and puts her hands up in the air and says and I don't make the rules. So, very disappointing. Then I get home and the containers of food aren't even full. This is not a sit down restaurant and my food was ready in 10 minutes yet I chose to give a 20% tip on $55. If I had known I would be treated that way for 2 sauces I would never have tipped. I won't make that mistake again. It's called customer service. If they didn't have the containers the sauce is supposed to come in for family meals, they should at the very least provide the same amount of small containers per person they would of if I was buying a single meal. I did not have enough sauce for my whole family. Dig inn charges entirely too much money to haggle with people over this when they aren't even providing what was advertised. The fact that she said it was a Dig inn rule that a single meal gets two sauces but a dinner for 4 gets only 6 is even more ridiculous. Dig inn is a staple for lunch in nyc. Ok maybe staple is a little much but people like it here. I think it is a solid lunch spot for people with all tastes. They have good vegetarian options and solid proteins for meat lovers. I went with the veggie bowl and loved it. The vegetables are always cooked just right and I know they are fresh because I see the people cutting them and cooking them in front of me. This shop is a little smaller than your normal dig inn but still has a decent sized dining area with both smaller tables and communal tables. The one negative thing I noticed about this location is that the service is a little nasty if you aren't prepared but it is new york. No matter what there is no excuse for that. I will probably be back even with the bad service. The food is solid and I feel healthier walking out of there than I did walking in. That is a win for me! read more

I get off the train and want to EAT. Dig Inn is a great neighborhood spot because the food is fresh, delicious, and healthy. You don't sacrifice the joy of eating food here. The portions are perfect and you won't deal with the guilty feeling you feel sometimes after eating delicious food. In fact, I've found myself wondering, after finishing my meal from Dig Inn, "Did I really just eat cauliflower and enjoy it THAT much?" The broccoli too. I don't hate broccoli but Dig Inn prepares it so well and tasty that I can't order a meal without it. That Mac and cheese though. It's legendary. You may feel guilty afterwards but you know what, sometimes you deserve it. It's not just the food. I've been passing by Dig Inn close to 4-5 times a week for about a year. During that time I've gotten to know the staff at this location quite a bit and they're a joy to engage. Not only do they offer great suggestions on what to eat but they always say hello and smile. The sides are seasonal and are excellent. I love the spicy cauliflower and their peaches in the summer and roasted carrots in the fall. I usually get the juicy organic steak which they slice for you. I only wish it was grass fed. If you are vegan or gluten free, there are many options here for you too! It isn't super cheap here. You will spend $14 and if you want avocado $1.50 more. I love Dig Inn. I used to go to another location on 53rd a lot for work lunch when I was at my previous job. This is the first time back after I became vegan, and I was happy to find they have so many vegan options that are clearly labeled on the menu. I came here with a non-vegan, paleo friend for lunch and both of us got satisfying meals, and it's reasonably priced too! I had roasted carrots, beets and tofu and my friend got roasted sweet potato and cauliflower sides and salmon. I like their options and selection here overall (greens/salads, mac and cheese, brussel sprouts, avocado, meatballs, chicken etc.). I also appreciate the concept of how you can build a bowl with a protein and 2 sides or a farmer's bowl with 3 sides. I think it's a good price point and usually costs me $11.40 to have 3 sides and add 1 meatball. However, unfortunately their "hot" items: meatballs, mac and cheese, brussel sprouts, etc. are lukewarm or room temperature at best. I went today and I just feel sick to my stomach from having to eat cold mac and cheese and cold brussel sprouts. I'm perplexed because at multiple times and at multiple locations, I have experienced that the "hot" items are room temperature so it seems like a deliberate choice of this company. My friend whom I was with actually said she knows the food generally needs to be microwaved so she took hers home. She said even after microwaving it for one full minute it wasn't hot. I really think Dig Inn needs to either increase temperatures of hot food items OR alternatively, provide microwave(s) in the store. read more

This restaurant is right down the street - like 2 blocks away - and it's easily become my go-to restaurant in the neighborhood! The restaurant is quick casual, just hop in line and tell the employees what bade, protein, two sides, and sauce you'd like for your bowl. Super easy! My go-to protein is always the meatballs or chicken and from there I tend to switch it up with the sides. However, they always have sweet potatoes and some kind of great kale option as well. I love that I'm able to eat out at Digg Inn and be full, but not feel like I ate something something awful for me. This location tends to get busy, like other locations, but the line moves quick!
