We had noodles, beef, and cucumber salad. Loved the matcha Jasmine latte and orange green tea juice. Friendly and professional severs to greet us. As someone who has seen DTF ALL over my social media feeds and can never seem to escape it, I always assumed that the amount of hype it got overpowered its actual value. The food served at DTF was not only high-quality and flavourful but the attention to detail on each individual dish was extremely impressive. From the xiao long bao to the green beans, there wasn't a single critique I had. As soon as we checked in at the front, we were seated immediately by a walker who made good conversation and even made a couple recommendations! Our server then had gone over the menu with us and not only was she highly knowledgeable, but extremely welcoming to us new customers. The chicken xiao long bao was so extremely full of flavour that any additional sauce was not needed. The potstickers were nice and crispy on the outside but still bursting with a variety of flavours once bitten into. Not only is the food at DTF well prepared and curated but it is also simple and not overbearing on the palate. As someone who has a unique taste for food and is quite sensitive, I loved how engaging the food was in all my senses. It was truly an unbelievable dining experience. The food was obviously amazing and so was the service but the ambiance was on another level. It was nice and cozy in the restaurant but still managed to maintain that well-kept organized modern look. The music playing also wasn't random instrumentals of songs you haven't heard in 30 years but newer songs that fit the overall vibe of the restaurant. The bathrooms were nicely tidied, clean and even multi-gendered. I must say, as there was only two of us giant foodies, we did pay a hefty price of $260CAD(including tip) but we recommended only two to three main dishes p/person as the portions are generously sized and extremely satisfying. Be prepared to spend a bit more than your average dinner but just know you'll be leaving full, happy and satisfied with a large bag of tasty leftovers for late at night or the next morning. The overall experience at DTF Vancouver was surely an unforgettable one and I recommend this restaurant to any tourists in the Downtown Vancouver area looking for a nice Tawainese dinner to enjoy with friends and family. 10/10 experience here at DTF Vancouver and I will definitely be checking out its other locations around the world. read more

My first time at Din Tai Fung and I was impressed by the scale of the restaurant and the quick service. The restaurant is huge inside and we got a nice corner booth seat. We were in town and I've heard of this restaurant and saw they have a location in Vancouver. We loved it so much we went twice in 3 days. The pork xiao long bao were out of this world good. I could eat two baskets. The shrimp and pork kurobuta spicy wontons are a must too. The pork chop fried rice was good but I'd rather get more xiao long bao. Save room for dessert, the chocolate xiao long bao. It's one of the best desserts I've ever had. Eyes roll to the back of your head level. Our server was Macy and she was great at suggestions and super friendly. We requested her the second time we went too. I'm looking forward to trying their other locations when I'm traveling. I've been to other locations before and this place never disappoints. I will say this location had the best service of any other time I've been. We got seated right away and served quickly even though we came late and didn't have a reservation. Wait staff was very attentive the entire time. Also we changed our minds about dessert and also let us place an order even after they had already told us the kitchen was closing down awhile ago. Glad we ordered it too because the mango shaved ice dessert was so good and refreshing. Loved that it wasn't too overpoweringly sweet. Food was great as usual. After striking out on being able to get reservations to the Scottsdale AZ location we were able to secure a table at their Downtown Vancouver, B.C. restaurant instead! Upon arriving at the second floor (via stairs or elevator) the inside decor is modern, polished, upscale and welcoming. It has been a busy couple of months since the Phoenix/Scottsdale location opened April 20, 2026. It has been a year since this location on Alberni Street opened and it was still busy Monday night! I was a bit disappointed that this Michelin star awarded restaurant did not have gluten free soy sauce available so I was limited in my choices. I ordered the cucumber salad, bok choy and had a bite of the kurobuta pork fried rice. I was expecting an explosion of garlic and ginger when I took my first bite of cucumber salad but instead the fresh peppers, garlic and sesame oil were light but balanced. Actually, it could have used a tad more seasoning. The bok choy was cooked on high heat with scallion fused oil and arrived fresh and crisp at our table. My favorite taste this night came from the shredded kurobuta pork fried rice. It was very tasty. My favorite out of the two desserts we ordered was the chocolate mochi bao! Warm, perfect chocolate flowed from the soft wrapper as I cut into it. I didn't taste the dough but the filling was outstanding. I finally did it. The finally went to DTF...but I had to leave the country to do so. The service is great, the atmosphere is nice, the food, pretty good not amazing, but pretty good which I'll take because I sadly do not eat pork. Keep in mind that if you do, it could move the needle from pretty good to amazing. It was coincidental that we came here to eat, but the dining experience became so much better after realizing that it's the only location in Canada! FOOD I am no stranger to Din Tai Fung as I have been to most locations in Southern CA and Taiwan. It makes me happy to see the food quality is consistent no matter where I went. However, it was my parents' first time and while they're usually a little bit more pickier, they genuinely liked the whole dining experience. They LOVED the garlic string beans. We order the pork and shrimp dumplings and that was a favorite for my dad. My mom loves rice cakes so the Shanghai rice cake for her palette instantly. INTERIOR Interior is spacious. There's an elevator at the bottom of the entrance but you can take the flight of stairs up. If you are with older folks, or just have food coma after eating, you can take the elevator down. Tip: the elevator upstairs is located right before you see the front desk. The restrooms are individual bathrooms and had seat covers. Very private. SERVICE We were seated towards the back, away from the main room, but the service was attentive. They constantly checked in on us and refilled our water. read more

I had not been to Din Tai Fung since it opened in Vancouver so I really wanted to go. My fiance and I were celebrating our anniversary so decided to come here. The space is pretty big and it was packed with a huge lineup when we got there on a Saturday night. I'm glad we got a reservation! The reason I would give this a 4/5 was because of the service - we had to wait 20mins after arriving to get seated which I wasn't too mad about because I knew they were pretty full. However, Our cocktails which were the first thing we ordered came as we were finishing our main course. I reminded our server 3 times. Also, I had to remind them multiple time to clear our table as food kept coming which they kept forgetting. I understand it was a busy time and day so it's not too big of a deal, but given their reputation, just thought I should mention it. When booking the reservation, they asked us if there was a special occasion so we had mentioned it and when we arrived, our server asked us twice what we were celebrating. They made it feel like there was going to be a surprise at the end but that didn't happen. Also! I told the server we were disappointed that the drinks came so late and she apologized but that was it. Our first round we got their famous pork xiao long bao - SOOO GOOD! It definitely lived up to the hype, I would recommend eating them as soon as they arrive so the heat remains. Our other favourite was their spicy vegan wonton - their spicy sauce was amazing! For mains, I got their noodles with diced beef & szechuan peppers. I would give this a 4/5, I thought the beef wasn't cooked well enough but the flavours were good. It's predictably solid, albeit overpriced and not necessarily better than what you'd get in the depths of Richmond, let's say, but it definitely caters to a different occasion. Like other reviewers have pointed out, the chocolate mocha XLB with sea salt cream is one of the unique must-trys here. The pork - both in XLB and pork chop form - was incredibly tender as well, unlike the typical tough, stringy texture you'd get from grocery store pork. Table service is on point as well. However the service upon check in is a disaster. They seem to have this weird system where they don't really honour your reservation and instead create a first come, first serve queue. I had to wait unacceptably long to get seated outside the main restaurant, with significantly worse ambiance, and only after I went to the front desk to follow up. read more

We were staying at Hyatt Regency and Din Tai Fung was just 10 mins walk from the hotel. They have a wait list which allows us to join the queue but it was still over 1.5 hrs wait when I got on the wait list at 11 am. It was a big restaurant and layout was a little different than the one in South Coast Plaza of California. Food was very good and tasty. My daughter remembered the taste of the pork chop and the fried rice. This time we are trying the shaved snow with mango. It's not quite like bingsu but the diced mangoes were very sweet. We decided to try Din Tai Fung for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and they did not disappoint. We recommend that you make reservations ahead of time because this restaurant can get pretty busy. Luckily for us they had an open seat at the counter. The restaurant itself is pretty big and spacious. You can find either street parking or park in one of the paid parking lots around the area. Once seated our waiter greeted us and explained how to order. We ordered the String Beans with Garlic, Crab & Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao, and Noodles with Sesame Sauce. String Beans: Good texture and seasoned well. Crab & Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao: one of the best Xiao Long Bao's I have had so far. The soup dumplings come out hot and fresh, the dumpling wrapper is not too thick and it did not stick to the paper in the steamer basket. The soup is delicate and pairs well with the soy sauce/ vinegar dipping and I added a little bit of chili oil to it. Noodles with Sesame: The noodle texture was good; not over or undercooked. Having visited locations in Hong Kong, the USA, and the Philippines, where the food and service were consistently exceptional, we were eager to experience the new Vancouver location. We began our meal with the cucumber salad, a refreshing blend of crisp Persian cucumbers, mild Fresno chili peppers, and fresh garlic, all tossed together with drizzles of sesame oil and their signature DTF chili oil. The salad was not too spicy, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients. Next, we indulged in the Sweet & Sour Pork Baby Back Ribs, a classic Shanghainese appetizer. These fresh and tender baby back ribs were evenly coated with our house-made sweet and sour sauce, resulting in a mouthwatering dish. We couldn't resist ordering them multiple times, even taking some for takeout. The ribs were incredibly juicy and tender, falling off the bone, and the sauce was simply superb. I would happily return just for these ribs. To complement our main course, we opted for the Seaweed & Beancurd Salad, a refreshing summertime favorite. Crisp bean sprouts, smooth glass noodles, springy beancurd, and thin strips of seaweed were tossed in our traditional vinegar dressing, with a light touch of the signature DTF chili oil adding layers of flavor and texture. This salad was perfect on a hot summer day, providing a refreshing contrast to the rich and savory dishes we were about to enjoy. Of course, we couldn't resist the temptation of the Xiao Long Bao, the modest dumpling that started a culinary legacy. Each Xiao Long Bao was carefully weighed and folded by hand to achieve our signature Golden Ratio of 18 folds, and filled with top-quality Kurobuta pork marinated in a blend of carefully selected seasonings. Coming to Vancouver, I knew one of my nights here I had to come to Din Tai Fung for dinner! This being the only location in Canada it is definitely a popular destination to eat at in the city. It is very difficult to get a reservation so make sure to put yourself on their Yelp waitlist to ensure you get a spot. It took over 2 hours for us to be called, but was seated inside quite quickly. The staff here is full of smiles, and I love how they make great conversation as well! The decor, lighting and overall vibe of this place is just stunning and it's the perfect place to go to for a date night or for a night out with friends. Let's get to the food now! One thing I know is that Din Tai Fung never disappoints when it comes to the food & quality! For drinks I tried the Mango Green Tea without boba and it was delicious! I wanted to try a bunch of different dishes so to start I got the Spicy Chicken Wontons (the best dish on the menu!!), Spicy Vegan Wontons (great vegetarian option), Vegan Spicy Noodles (delicious!!), Garlic Green Beans (I need the recipe for this!) and the Mushroom Fried Rice! The food had great portion sizes and was definitely enough for 2 people! There was a bit of a delay with the food coming out but nonetheless was all still fresh and delicious! Din TaiFung is a well know restaurant chain from Taiwan. I have been to several international locations and it's always been a good meals. The Vancouver location on Alberni is located on the first floor and you can see people queueing in the stairs very often. I recommend booking in advance. The food is excellent. I can recommend the Pork Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), noodles with Minced Kurobuta Pork and Pork Wontons with Spicy Sauce. For dessert the Chocolate and Mochi Xiao Long Bao is to die for. Went for lunch with my hubby on a Sunday. The decor and service is pretty high end, and the prices and smaller portions reflected it. Overall, it was fine, but neither one of us thought it mind blowing. The place was busy, but we easily had our pick of time slots on their reservation system even that same morning, so I think we are not the only ones that left feeling conflicted/ambivalent about it. I'm giving it 4 stars but really it was a 3.5 for me - it's only the gracious, lovely server we had that made me round up to 4 stars, lol. There are so many other places with similar quality or better food, and more reasonable pricing. But then again, DTF is sitting on expensive real estate, the decor is fancy, and they have a LOT of staff, as well as fancy packaging for leftovers/takeout, so I get why the prices are what they are... We ordered: Wood ear mushrooms w/vinegar ($9.50) - a smaller portion than expected. Very simple flavours, oddly sweet. It was kind of meh. Soy noodle salad ($9.50) - another small portion, and with a simple, disconcerting sweet vinegar dressing rather than the more savoury, oil-based dressings I prefer. Very delicate but I wouldn't order it again. Crab & pork xlb ($23) - well crafted and executed, the dumpling wrappers were supple, pliable and didn't tear. I felt that the price reflected the quality, but I would have preferred to get it piping hot, not tepid, barely body temperature. Shrimp & pork dumplings ($21) - another well executed dish where I thought the price and value was in alignment. Note that these are almost as juicy as the xlb, and have the same wrappers that are an engineering marvel, but just in a different shape. Like the xlb, the wrappers were excellent, but again, the temperature was at best tepid. Vegetable and pork spicy wontons ($18) - these were oddly sweet and bland, and the spice level was very mild. I would not order this again. String beans with garlic ($18) - well made, but ridiculously expensive for the amount you get. Pork Shanghai rice cakes ($20) - this was a TINY portion and I think there was only a few skinny pieces of pork in it. Way too saucy, which is a shame because the sauce itself was tasty. The rice cakes were a bit soggy from all the sauce, and I would not order it again. There are countless places that make variations of this dish much better. We both thought DTF is fine if you're in the area and want a quick bite (they also have bar seating for solo diners), and stick to the xlb and dumplings, and maybe some drinks at the bar. That said, while they are well made, neither of us would say that these are the best xlb or dumplings to be had. My husband and I went to Taipei and had Din Tai Fung while there so when we saw Vancouver was getting our very own, we were STOKED but also slightly worried it wasn't going to be as good as the one in Taipei. But it definitely is! We've been twice now. The restaurant itself is huge and beautiful, split among a few different rooms with plants, a huge patio and bar dining space. The kitchen in classic DTF fashion is glass so you can watch the dumpling chefs work at a lightning speed! The service is impressive. So many amazing attentive and lovely servers working super hard to make sure your experience is a special one. Food wise, it's so simple but addictive that we get two every time is the cucumber salad. Perfect texture and flavour. The sticky ribs are such a great appy too. Of course you must get the pork Xiao Ling Bao dumplings, they're to die for and the best I've ever had. So delicate and the soup inside is so delicious. Also the veg wontons are killer! I could eat platefuls of every type of dumpling they have on the menu. Another stand out are the garlic beans, get them every time and they're so fresh, crisp and full of flavour! The noodle dishes are super yummy too and have great chew to the nood. Now don't forget to try the dessert - their chocolate steamed buns are so decadent and yummy!! I had a reservation for **3 people at 8:00 PM**, but we weren't seated until **8:25 PM**. The restaurant closes at **9:00 PM**, so by the time we finally got a table, we had barely enough time to enjoy our meal. What's the point of making a reservation if it isn't honored? To make matters worse, the table they gave us was extremely small for a party of three, making the dining experience uncomfortable. I understand restaurants get busy, but reservation guests should be prioritized. If the restaurant can't handle both reservations and walk-in customers, they shouldn't keep accepting walk-ins while people with reservations are left waiting. The food may be good, but the reservation management was disappointing. Waiting 25 minutes past a confirmed reservation only to be seated at a cramped table--when the restaurant closes just 35 minutes later--is simply unacceptable and completely defeats the purpose of making a reservation. read more

Din Tai Fung in Vancouver is where dumpling dreams come true, and where I learned that self-control is a myth. You walk in thinking, I'll just try a few things, and walk out wondering if you need to be rolled to your car. The star, of course, is the legendary xiao long bao (soup dumplings). Each one is a tiny purse of molten happiness, perfectly pleated like an origami masterpiece. Bite too fast and you'll get a hot broth facial, bite too slow and someone at your table will "accidentally" steal it. Strategy is key. The noodles are silky enough to make Italian pasta jealous, the green beans are stir-fried to the point of addiction, and the pork chop fried rice is so good it might convince you to abandon all life goals and just live in the restaurant's lobby. Service is speedy but polite, like they know you're about to eat enough dumplings to question your life choices and don't want to slow your descent. Best Restaurant in Vancouver. Their Xiao Long Bao is crazy delicious. The chocolate xiaolongbao is also special, you should give it a try. Services are also incredible. Our server gave us so many tips to eat the dishes in the best way. I also love how the restaurant looks inside. It's elegant, modern, and lively. I think I can eat this everyday. I also tried the first ever DTF, which is in Taiwan. It was even better. Must try if you get a chance to visit Taiwan. read more
