You can tell this place has been around a long time. It's on the corner of a cramped little strip mall and place is pretty small inside as well. Maybe ten tables with very little room between. From the front counter it's obvious take out is a big part of their business.. The service was quick and polite, and the food came out super hot. As we tend to do, all four of us ordered different meals so we could share and sample. Everything was really good, and all the sides were ample portions. As stated, the chicken (and fish) was hot out of the fryer. Had to wait a good 5 minutes before we could even handle it. All very tasty. Amazing food that has always been around as long as I been alive. The menu goes in forever and breakfast anytime of day is always a great thing. They are famous for their friend chicken, which if I may say so is quite tasty. It's a pretty famous place with many movies being shot in or outside diner. Last one was Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhal, the diner with "Culver City" sign behind him. I digress. This place is definitely worth checking out if in the LA area and they off honey cinnamon and chipotle style friend chicken as well as original. Breakfast is always amazingly tasty and the portions are quite good. I always have been a huge fan of their banana bread and yeast rolls you get when you sit down. We dined in, and shared the five piece chicken dinner. It comes with two sides and a roll. We went with stuffing (served with cranberry dressing) and corn on the cob. We tried the Box'O'Chicken, with sides of mashed potatoes and pineapple coleslaw. My wife had all of the mashed potatoes and loved them. They looked good to me as well. I liked the pineapple coleslaw, though it was a bit on the moist side. It tasted great though. The only reason I gave only four stars was that there is very limited parking, especially now under COVID, as the Mexican restaurant in the same plaza has part of the parking taken away for outdoor eating space. The three girls that work at this place have a such a bad attitude that it made me spit out my food out of disgust. By now, we have all witnessed the battle of the chicken sandwiches - from spiciest to Southern to every fast food chain joining in the fray. However, once in a while, I have a hankering for just a simple chicken dinner that doesn't break the bank or have me waiting in a mega line for hours. In steps the chicken institution of Glendale, Dinah's Chicken. I have seen this restaurant on my many forays to downtown Glendale and recall a family night out there as a child. So it was way past due for me to revisit what promises to be a chicken dinner worth trying again. ...upon arrival to the strip mall where Dinah's is located, I could already tell that there was a gathering of regulars who rely on Dinah's for a lunch that would satisfy. Whether to-go or dine-in, they had a constant traffic of customers but not too much to scare me off (you know those hours long lines to a certain chicken sandwich spot not far off!). Inside, I felt drawn back to visits to grandma's for the holidays. Everything was decked out for Christmas and lots of wood and kitschy decorations that would make any grandma proud. Customer service was genuinely friendly and I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Linda, who was just as ever involved in the logistics as a first timer. Good to know quality and service is still of prime importance after years of business as usual. Now, let's get to the important stuff - the fried chicken. I have to say, at first bite, memories of my childhood family outings came flooding back. There was nothing fancy about the drumstick I bit into but the juicy tender chicken embedded in the crispy fried coating was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend to those who love to post about their every meal to keep their social media to a minimum here - as the chicken is best when it's still piping hot from the kitchen. I also tried the seafood meal and I'll be honest. The shrimp was better than the fish but if you're at Dinah's, their chicken still rules so don't forgo the poultry for the seafood. But one must-try that was completely unexpected was the pineapple coleslaw. I've tried many coleslaws from all the chicken contenders but this was by far, the best-est! I could eat this every day! There was a fresh sweet cleanness to the coleslaw which didn't make me think they coated the shredded cabbage with fat to make it palatable. New Year's resolution - eat more coleslaw at Dinah's - lol! Lastly, I had to try dessert. I sampled the coconut cream pie, as recommended by the staff. It was delicious - even for someone who normally stays away from coconut. Perfectly sweet, but not too much so. At this point, there wasn't much room left (in my belly that is) but I managed to squeeze in a bite of the pecan pie which was delectable. Who knew pecans would make a great dessert? (my apologies to all you pecan pie lovers) So will I be back for my own family night out? You bet. There's nothing more satisfying than a simple fried chicken dinner and please don't forget the pineapple coleslaw. Coleslaw will never be the same once you have tried theirs. Service was very bad I don't understand why people who work in places like this aren't happy. Do you know what you signed up for? so if you don't like where you work at is better for you to quit because the waitresses attitude is very disgusting. You can tell she didn't want to help us or every time we asked for something she seemed annoyed. To top it off the prices are outrageous when dining in doesn't make sense how dining in and take out are two different prices. I recommend people don't dine in because it is a rip off. Used to love Dinah's. You'd drive by and it was a test of your willpower. The aroma wafting by, the cars lining up, and oh that bucket... sometimes you could just sniff and drive by to be satisfied. Other times, the aroma and visions of plump juiciness pulls you in. You jockey for parking and position, and pray your chicken tasted half as good as it smelled. Many times, it did. But more often than not, the chicken was too dry. Particularly the white meat. This may because the breading is so thin, and they fry pretty dark brown. I love wings so that's what I often get, and they are tiny. The mashed potatoes are the worst, don't know why anyone bothers. And the chicken doesn't reheat well. What you don't eat the hour you buy it will not taste good tomorrow. Not a fan of the pineapple coleslaw or the dinner rolls. Mac and Cheese is good. The prices have risen since I started going. Not outrageous, but the higher the prices, the higher the expectation that the chicken is consistently moist. And since it isn't, I rarely go. read more

I was really excited to try Dinahs, I have heard good things. I want to support smaller businesses. Unfortunately, I was extremely dissapointed. Mac and cheese was so bland, it had no cheese. This just tasted like boiled noodles. The mashed potatoes were ok but nothing to rave about. The coleslaw was good the pineapple is different but I liked it. Now, the most important item, the chicken. It had no flavor, not crispy. It tasted burnt, like the chicken was fried in old burnt oil. Dinah's holds a place in my heart (and tummy) as an O.G. fried chicken experience. The fried chicken batter has a little something special that is unique in flavor you can't find elsewhere. Outside is crispy but not in a way that just flakes of the chicken, and the meat is always moist and fresh. Menu is simple and easily highlights their most popular items... fried chicken! Coleslaw may be a little lackluster (very Mayo-ie, tiny bit of pineapple hints) but we seem to always end up getting it anyway. I just finished eating what I could after receiving a delivered meal through DoorDash. I ordered the box meal with chicken livers. The coleslaw was as delicious as ever, as were the mashed potatoes and gravy. That is the end of the good. If I had been sitting in this restaurant, my meal would have gone back to the kitchen. The chicken livers had been cooked so long that they were dried out and crispy. They were not even edible! I have been ordering delivered food several times a week due to the stay at home order and am finding that many establishments are sending out sub par meals. We really have no recourse after it's delivered, with the exception of writing reviews and not frequenting these places when things are back to normal. I realize everyone is under stress but that is no reason to let your standards slip. I won't return to this restaurant. read more

Great little find on SF Road in an understated shopping plaza but a very cool restaurant! It's a classic diner with all your typical foods but the fried chicken is the way to go. They have different menu for both dine in and take out which is very interesting. Looks like all the large platters are for to-go only while the more entree items are for dine in. I opted to dine in and ordered the special chicken and waffles. I usually don't eat fried foods but fried chicken is one of my favorites! I have to say I was a bit disappointed and brought my friends along first I checked yelp and called they said they close at 9... the inside closes about 8:30 my friends and I got her at 8 and yes we were rushed which is not cool advertise both times. My mom Loves Dinah's chicken, so whenever we are in the neighborhood, we always swing by. I ordered a 2 piece meal for my mom (2 thighs) with mashed potato and gravy. She was so disappointed to see that instead of Whole thighs, they have been cut in Half!! I understand the prices are going up everywhere, and would expect a price hike....
