Another Fried Chicken spot OFF my bucket list. There are 2 locations one in Westchester, the other, this one in Glendale. Per the waitress the chicken at the Glendale location is way better than Westchesters because the later expanded their menu to include tons of items whereas the Glendale location focus and specialize in the chicken! I believe this to be a fact because when I went into the office Monday to brag about the chicken a Westchester native snubbed his nose up at me. I suppose for him, growing up, Dinahs was the fried chicken spot. And since they dont have the best tasting of the franchises, I dismissed him. As fried chicken is my thing, this place was delicious. The meat very moist. Now.. sometimes I get weirded out eating meat. Especially if it has a meaty odor or if its wet and the texture is slimy. Yuck. Had a few spots of that with the thigh pieces of meat. I figure because that piece is already moist whatever their brine process it keeps it a bit too slimy for my liking but the White meat was bomb. Flavor from the crust(amaze) AND the chicken wasnt bland. The recipe is DEF better than KFC! There use to be a wide chain called Pioneer Chicken in SoCal. Soooo damn good. Dinahs chicken reminds me of it. The fries have a coating on them, making them extra crispy. They were long as hell too, Perfect if you want to not be adventurous. You will be happy. I ordered Mac & Cheese with the meal, egh. Very Velveeta for me. It want bad, just not as handcrafted as the chicken. The waitress brought samples of their Pineapple coleslaw and potatoe salad. It sat itself right where she left it. BLEGH. Bland. And pineapples didn't help the coleslaw. Its not even subtle pineapple , its whole chunks! Pass. I also didn't care for the cold dinner roll. I was inclined to use the Apple spread on the table but my roll was cold, so the butter didn't melt . And the lemonade was not sweet and very watery. 4 : Stars for what the place is known for. The fried chicken and basic sides: fries, mashed potatoes (the country gravy is a little on the salty side), the ambiance (locals and regulars randomly were chatty and bragged about the place and told old stories as we ate) and the customer service was really friendly. read more

They portion wings with a 1/4 breast chunk attached, and the main breast is portioned in big vertical thirds (2 lower parts with the breastbone kept intact across a large upper portion) Every piece is at least 4 ozs. Still a great light Southern salt and pepper seasoned flour coating over an egg dip. Great sides, pineapple coke slaw is the sweeter variety but light on mayo. Bean salad has lots of cider vinegar (you can water rinse at home if you prefer it less sour.) Fluffy buttermilk biscuits with country cream gravy or apple butter at breakfast. Great pies, too (whole or by slice) Fries are battered and seasoned for lasting crunch similar to Popeye's. And for a bonus, their fish and chips are darned close to a UK chip shop these days - big slabs of Alaskan cod, egg and flour battered but with the battered fries makes for a delight with malt vinegar, but usually served with lemon and their really decent house made tartar sauce. read more

The people used to be so nice and the food was good portions. Their yelp hours and the ones posted on the outside say they are open until 9 but the last three times I have come in, they say they are closing early. One time at 8 and the last time at 7 and today at 7:30. I asked why the couple that walked in right before me was seated and she said they made it before the cutoff? I got there at the same time but she ignored me while on the phone talking on a personal call. It's really bad business to change hours on the daily and when I asked the lady said they are the ones running it so they have nobody telling them when they should close and sometimes they want to close early. I've been to Dinah's in Pomona.. I happened upon this location in Glendale... Sooo to sum it up.. it's not that great!!! Chicken a bit tasteless and greasy.. Mashed potatoes from a box or package and was bland thank goodness that the gravy was delicious.. that and the stuffing was very good.would I return? Bucket of chicken and bottle of hot sauce!! The only time I've eaten at Dinah's was after Glendale Tap. I mean it's a hop, skip and a jump away from the beer joint. I doubt I'll return for some of their straight forward fried chicken, scoop of mashed potatoes and basic coleslaw while not intoxicated. There's enough parking for the size of the restaurant and if that's full, there's plenty of street parking. The service is decent and the restaurant is rather cozy. We went to Dinahs Chicken on San Fernando. I do make my own mashed potatoes at home but we got the corn and coleslaw and chicken. It is not spicy which is great for me and the breading is thin not crunchy like KFC. I am happy to see they expanded into Pasadena at the United Kitchens on Madison Ave. I give them a thumbs up for nothing fancy food and prices are always reasonable. They have outdoor seating and the location was clean. I have been coming here for years. I would love to see them maybe change a couple things. Revamp the mashed potatoes recipe, maybe add some sparkle to their corn on the cob. I personally bake pies and would not buy the one they have. Just got a take out order from this location and an employee walked through the kitchen holding a dog.... Don't really want to eat the food now. The more I think about this, the more bothered I am. Yes it's a tad pricey I think for fried chicken but I was completely satisfied so I have nothing bad to say about the chicken at all totally worth it. I was on San Fernando trying to get around a massive traffic jam on Interstate 5. So when I came across this place I decided to swing in and get some chicken. In Glendale we have had trouble parking, not so at this place. Plenty of parking here. I got a bucket of chicken and biscuits to go, as the dining area was full. This chicken is on par with KFC and the other chains. The biscuits are very good as well. I ate the bird in the vehicle, and took a bunch home. Good chicken served by helpful employees.
