Or like dare I say a fancy restaurant not specializing in fried chicken can make. Doesn't mean it's bad. But it does mean it is limited in taste. The chicken however was -- for the most part -- super juicy. The skin just lacked any real defined flavor. Could be seasoned better. Roll tasted like a french roll for sandwiches, so whatevs. I did not receive mac'n cheese and mashed potatos and gravy. Instead, I just received two mac 'n cheese sides. The sides are super small. Had always wanted to try this place and was coincidentally driving by today so thought I would stop in. Cute vintage atmosphere which I liked, initially we ordered the regular fried chicken which was bland and flavorless so I took it back in and asked to try the spicy chicken instead Which I assumed would have more flavor and that was fabulous!!! So full of flavor with a sort of spicy paprika seasoning on it I absolutely loved it. The mashed potatoes were very flavorful and delicious. Well this is about as close to my mother's, grandmother's and everybody else's mother or grandma out there during the 50's thru the 60's fried chicken from a cast iron pan coated with only flour shaken in a brown paper bag, with salt and pepper. Back then the only chicken with a wet egg and flour dredge, and maybe Buttermilk batter was KFC. Mom didn't know anything about a 11 spices, other than two, salt and pepper. Now I love a good crunchy fried chicken that is now ubiquitous, (Popeyes', Vons, Ralph's, KFC, Church's, Pioneer etc.) it's not what was typical in anyone's household. Now I didn't grow up in the south, but my mom's family was from Arkansas, and you'd thought she'd know about buttermilk and egg's dips. But no my friend she didn't and never but never did such a thing. And don't get me started on mashed potatoes. Dinah's serves the real thing with little tiny chunks of potato in there. Praise the lord! I only have two issue's. I live in Pasadena and she's too far away and I'm not crazy about her gravy. I grew up with milk gravy from the pan drippings. So next time I'll pass on the gravy. Finally, everyone in the shop was so lovely. Made the visit all that more special. Oh, I almost forgot. As I approached the front door two women were walking out the door with a cart carrying several huge aluminum pans filled to the brim with what I assume was fried chicken with several sides. The bad: Dining room seating is wayyy too tight. I was sat in a corner table and the waitress missed me repeatedly for refills on drinks and when trying to flag anyone down for the check. This might be one of, if not THE, best chicken place in town. They said if the colonel has their recipe, then he'd be a general--i'm not contesting that. The chicken is fried perfectly, not too salty, and all the spices permeates the the chicken meat down to the bone. Sometimes with fried chicken you have to eat the meat together with the crispy skin to make sure you get all the flavor. If you're like me who likes to strip your chicken naked, usually either you get crispy skin that is too salty or you get crispy skin that is just right, but the you're left with bland chicken meat. At Dinah's you can have your crispy skin and eat (the meat). Truly the best experience. The pies are fine, the gizzards are not bad, and the sides kinda alright, but the chicken is to die for. read more

The chicken was very crispy on the skin and the meat itself was juicy & tender on the inside. The promotion to add more drumsticks came clutch. Mygroup ordered more drumsticks. And it was enough chicken for me to upgrade from the regular chicken dinner to jumbo dinners for "cheap". A lot of my friends that saw my social media post asked about this spot.
