We visited Dinah's Chicken in Glendale with our family and used a Groupon to purchase a family meal, fully intending to sit down and eat in the dining area. After we arrived and sat down, the manager named Olga informed us that we were not allowed to dine in the restaurant with other patrons because we had used a Groupon. When I pointed out that this felt like unfair treatment and discrimination against Groupon customers, she stood by the policy. We no longer felt comfortable or welcome, so we asked for a full refund and left without eating. The entire situation left our family feeling humiliated and disrespected. I understand that businesses may have restrictions on promotional deals, but publicly segregating paying customers based on how they purchased their meal is unacceptable. We will never return to Dinah's Chicken and strongly advise others to think twice before supporting this discriminatory establishment. read more

All the reviews are correct this place is amazing, it has that warm cozy ambiance to some pretty delicious comfort food. The fried chicken was amazing as well as the mashed potatoes and gravy. For sides we went with the Mac and cheese ( not pictured ) pineapple coleslaw, stuffing with a side of cranberry sauce and dinner rolls. The chicken was cooked perfectly not greasy at all, just needed a touch of salt for my taste. The pineapple coleslaw was delicious just a touch of sweetness not overwhelming. Unfortunately the reviews on the Mac and cheese were correct it did not have enough cheese and lacked flavor. As for the stuffing it was delicious reminded me of my mother in laws, the presentation wasn't all that appetizing but it was good. The service was a great the prices are reasonable considering inflation and it still has that grandmas house feel to the place, I could tell why a lot of locals and regulars come to this spot. read more

Excellent food - excellent service. Ordered for a 10 person group for a Kentucky Derby watch party. They helped me order over the phone and came up with different packages. I picked the 21 piece, 2 sides, 6 biscuits, and a PIE. Everyone loved the food, loved that I showed up with a Pie. The cole slaw was not too sweet, and loved the German style potato salad. Personally I like this fried chicken more than Roscoe's. I know I know but Dinah's breading and flavor are more consistent. Not overly fried and juicy tender meat. People keep coming in and out of the restaurant walking out with buckets and trays of just fried chicken. If that doesn't tell you something good let me tell you more. They even have batter fried fish and shrimp. They're also not overly breaded or fried. My mom loves the fried liver and gizzards mix. So crunchy!!! As for the sides it's hit or miss. I feel that their Mac needs more cheese or something. Their waffles are delish. Signature pineapple slaw is a must even though it's not my favorite. I like their mashed potatoes a lot. Add the gravy so creamy!!! I also really like their rolls. Thick yet soft. They also have a variety of pies that you can get with ice cream!!! Our neighbor gave us some of their chicken and we loved it so we stopped by Dinah's! We were seated quickly and food came by pretty fast. There's a take away version of the chicken dinner but it's not available dine in. We ended up getting one chicken dinner meal, which includes three pieces of chicken, two sides and a dinner roll. They also have a $1 drumstick special for every $5 spent. The chicken again was tasty and didn't need extra condiments. Nice crunch and juicy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were as expected. The macaroni and cheese were creamy but could use a little pepper. There's available parking in the lot though if it gets busy street parking is available close by. Got seated right away for an early lunch. Ordered 2 pieces plus mash w gravy and Cole slaw. Their Cole salad is the usual cabbage plus pineapple. There lots of pineapple chunks adding a sweetness. It was tasty. I liked the chicken but it could have used more flavors. Salt was fine. I wouldn't call this southern fried chicken tho. The restaurant is small with a lot of tables. Bottom-Line: Mid-level family-owned entrenched fried chic recipe that doesn't reinvent the wheel, but is an okay place to get a bite to eat now and then. Preface: Ordered Postmates, so results may vary -- especially when dining in. I ordered the 3-piece mixed chicken with roll and two sides. With tip and my Uber-one subscription, the grand total came out to 25$ in 2024. Sojourning from Glendale, the 3-piece still came in surprisingly still hot, but the mix chicken consisted of : wing, thigh, leg. For $25 dollars, I'm leaving a lot on the table to be desired. Would it hurt to sub a thigh for a breast? Not too much meat on 'em bones. I also ordered two of the more popular sides -- mac 'n cheese and mashed potato and gravy. The chicken was just okay. No knockout punch. Skin had a darkened crisp thinner membrane similar to what any person with makeshift homemade fryer can potentially make right at home. Or like dare I say a fancy restaurant not specializing in fried chicken can make. Doesn't mean it's bad. But it does mean it is limited in taste. The chicken however was -- for the most part -- super juicy. The skin just lacked any real defined flavor. Could be seasoned better. Roll tasted like a french roll for sandwiches, so whatevs. I did not receive mac'n cheese and mashed potatos and gravy. Instead, I just received two mac 'n cheese sides. The sides are super small. The Mac'n Cheese was the low-part of the meal. Super bland. Had zero flavor. Tasted just above grocery boxed mac'n cheese. How is this popular, I don't know. read more

Well this is about as close to my mother's, grandmother's and everybody else's mother or grandma out there during the 50's thru the 60's fried chicken from a cast iron pan coated with only flour shaken in a brown paper bag, with salt and pepper. Back then the only chicken with a wet egg and flour dredge, and maybe Buttermilk batter was KFC. Mom didn't know anything about a 11 spices, other than two, salt and pepper. Now I love a good crunchy fried chicken that is now ubiquitous, (Popeyes', Vons, Ralph's, KFC, Church's, Pioneer etc.) it's not what was typical in anyone's household. Now I didn't grow up in the south, but my mom's family was from Arkansas, and you'd thought she'd know about buttermilk and egg's dips. But no my friend she didn't and never but never did such a thing. And don't get me started on mashed potatoes. Dinah's serves the real thing with little tiny chunks of potato in there. Praise the lord! I only have two issue's. I live in Pasadena and she's too far away and I'm not crazy about her gravy. I grew up with milk gravy from the pan drippings. So next time I'll pass on the gravy. Finally, everyone in the shop was so lovely. Made the visit all that more special. Oh, I almost forgot. As I approached the front door two women were walking out the door with a cart carrying several huge aluminum pans filled to the brim with what I assume was fried chicken with several sides. I had heard about this place as a good "local" spot, so I had to try it once. I really wanted to like it more; what I got was overpriced food that was akin to a chain restaurant. Such a shame. Chicken - They pressure fry their chicken, which keeps them juicy but nothing else. Sure, the seasoning is great, but texturally there's nothing else to it. I was looking for any kind of crunch but couldn't find it. If there's no crunch, what are we doing here? Mashed Potatoes and Gravy - The mashed potatoes tasted and had the consistency of something I'd expect from a chain restaurant. Salty and dense. The gravy was a bit better seasoned.
