decent sandwich but... wildly overpriced. $31 for a reuben filled with fatty corned beef, and they have the audacity to ask for a tip on top of that. you can get much more at almost any restaurant for that price. if you want "leaner" meat you have to pay for it per sandwich like an add-on. also the meat is cut way too thick for a sandwich. it's like 1/4 of an inch thick. for sides you get a TINY salad in the container you'd normally get a side of sauce in, and 3 small SLICES of a pickle. it's a joke. wouldn't come back. do yourself a favor and go to literally any other deli. the prices here are absolutely absurd. read more

We went yesterday on a recommendation of a friend, and reading Yelp reviews. We had a LEO (sandwich), corned beef sandwich, matzoh ball soup, coffee, and a Dr.Brown. What the hell is everyone talking about? Have all these people not actually eaten at a NY deli...weird. Other than the corned beef meat (which was OK), this place was disappointing: 1) What's with putting a mediocre LEO on onion roll? Seriously? Not to mention, the LEO was nothing more than minced lox blended into the egg. Sad. 2) Matzoh ball was ok, but why put all that other stuff into to broth. The star is supposed to be the matzoh ball...not tainted by a messed up soup. 3) I was going to try latkes...until I saw 25 pre-fab latkes stacked up like playing cards in the delivery case. What's up with that? If I wanted pre-fab latest, I probably could have got them at Costco. 4) On a positive note, the bakery items looked good...although I didn't actually dive into them after the other disappointing food. As a New Yorker, this is the most authentic Jewish deli in Seattle, past or present. Serving size is generous so expect your sandwiches.

If there was a negative rating this is the restaurant that deserves it. After living over 72 years, I found the worst place to go for a corned beef sandwich. I tried two sandwiches the regular corned beef sandwich for $23 and the sandwich with extra lean corned beef sandwich which was $2 more bringing it to $25. The regular corned beef sandwich had more solid fat than beef. To coin the familiar cliché ...I couldn't feed my dog this meat. After cutting away the fatty areas, I will serve the small amount of beef that is left to my dog. Now the corned beef sandwich with extra lean corned beef was also fatty. but not quite as fatty as the regular. Also fit for a dog after all fat was removed. The meat was not sliced for a sandwich. It was thick and chunky and therefore could not lay flat between the bread slices. The meat shapes were closer to what you would use for a pot of stew. As a result when holding the sandwich the very light barely tasting marbled rye bread whgich was not toasted would fall apart as the chunky beef poked through the very light bread. And for some reason cole slaw was added to sandwich which was not stated on their menu and no mustard was added to bag or on the sandwich. I was finished going to take out window ... for salt which they did not supply, for plastic cups, for plastic knife to cut sandwiches and of course for cleaning materials for the filthy table. The very pleasant lady who took the order said there was a table we could eat at provided on the side of the building. And to set the scene and atmosphere of the area provided for our Sunday picnic lunch for family of five. We walked over to the table to have our Sunday afternoon lunch of corned beef sandwiches, chopped liver and a few other side dishes. The table was filthy and only 2 feet way from a large restaurant trash receptacle. Upon putting our food take out bags on the table the top moved from side to side... a brief recap a table that moved continually from side to side, and a filthy tabletop which was placed near the trash. The trash container was cleaner than the table. I asked for materials to clean the filthy table.She placed a few napkins in the food bag ... so no water to clean table down with. One member of the family had ordered a brisket sandwich and wanted additional salt... I walked over to take out window to get a salt packet. And a different lady said to me that the meat was cooked in salt and they dont offer salt packets to customers. When i ordered 2 cans of root beer, I did so since the pleasant lady taking the order said i would be able to get a plastic cup and 1 ice cube. Since the plastic cups and ice were not in the take out bag I returned again to the take out window. The lady who works at take out window sad she would check to see if any were available......They were so I did get the plastic cups and ice. Wow what a win for three sandwiches that cost over $75.00 with tax and custom tip but I did get 2 plastic cups w an ice cube in each for the two cans of root beer. And since it was a take out order I had to tip prior to seeing food and prior to seeing our seating accommodations on the filthy wobbly table near the trash. And for some reason cole slaw was added to sandwich which was not stated on their menu and no mustard was added to bag or on the sandwich. Matzo ball soup and a Pastrami Rachel are a great way to start a cold, rainy, January weekend. Dingfelder's did not disappoint! Their matzo ball soup was more like a chicken noodle soup (minus noodles, plus matzo ball) with some chicken chunks and veg. Served piping hot! The sandwich was delicious... Pastrami was fall apart tender and hand sliced- much like the famous Katz's NYC deli. But even better, the sandwich (rye bread) is griddled with a nice golden crisp exterior. It's stacked nice and high with juicy pastrami. Could have used a couple more pickles, but did not leave hungry. Had a nice convo with Vince (the owner?) and made for a perfect lunch. I'm new to the city and was I ever happy to stroll by this place! I stopped on my way back and got some matzo ball soup and a potato knish to go. I couldn't wait to get home and eat. And after walking up and down these hills, I was pretty hungry. The soup was excellent. The knish a bit bland but hey, it's a potato knish...it's still good and unfortunately I'm going to have to eat it another day because I am stuffed from the soup. I've been looking for a fairly priced egg and cheese on a roll since moving to Seattle from Brooklyn over a decade ago now. As of a couple days ago, I had not found one. I heard this place is now doing one for $7 and had to give it a try asap. It did the trick. Was it as good as your average random bodega spot in NYC? Eh, it's close enough. The BEST - food, people, everything! Came in on a whim since I was in the neighborhood and hadn't been before. Boy was I glad I did!

My partner is from NY and his mom's side of the family is Jewish, so he took me to Dingfelder's for lunch on a typical chilly rainy Saturday because he wanted to show me as close to a proper deli as you can get in Seattle. How did I not know about this place?!? We split the matzo ball soup, a latke with homemade honeycrisp applesauce and sour cream, and a corned beef on marbled rye with mustard, Russian dressing and coleslaw (and side of fresh maybe half sour pickles and more coleslaw); we each got our own diet Dr Brown's cream soda (regular not available due to distribution issues but the diet was actually good). The soup was wonderful, the matzo dense but not too dense; the latke was crisp, tasty and the right amount of salt; the corned beef was the showstopper - so much meat, the brisket was tender, the corning spices spot on with the Russian dressing and slaw for a little acid and punch. Service was great. Took home a Linzer cookie and some NY cheesecake for later. Epic meal. Definitely will be back to try the pastrami, as well as some of the whitefish. read more

The matzoh ball soup and latkes were outstanding, but the service and ambiance were lacking. The place has only counter service, which is fine, except that the checker suggested we leave a tip and the default tip on the card reader was 20%. I generally tip 20% for table service, but less for counter service. We felt pressure to opt for the 20% default tip since the person had asked us to tip and it wasn't clear on the tiny card reader how to choose custom tip. Then, when our food arrived, the server told us to go get our own silverware across the room. And the food arrived in takeout containers, even though we were eating at the restaurant. The place was cold and the tables were dirty. Finally, the prices are extremely high here. $28 for a sandwich. $9 for a bowl of soup. If I go back, I'll order the food to go and try to have the backbone to tip what I feel is appropriate. Gpic food, but lots of drawbacks at Dingfelders. read more

Great service but I wouldn't say it's the best hot pastrami sandwich of all time. We tried the hot pastrami and the cold salami sandwich. It came w pickles and an interesting pickled tomato on the side with tiny amount of coleslaw. I felt like the Seattle style (half the amount) was a good size that left you feeling not too heavy after eating it. It's around $18 a sandwich which is a bit pricey but they do give you a lot of meat. But personally, spending over $40 on two sandwiches is a bit overboard. read more

This place was the real thing! 3 days ago I had the lox and schmear on a bagel, and it was the best I've had in a long time. Also loved those pickles! My son had the Reuben, and it was piled up with corned beef NY style. I took my husband for lunch there to split another lox sandwich with more pickles and cream soda. We came by yesterday for hot pastrami sandwiches and matzo ball soup, so we could take it down the block and eat it at Rachel's Ginger Beer. We just came back from an NYC trip this week, so we were excited to find an NYC style deli here in Seattle. Unfortunately, despite the matching prices (we dropped over $100 for two matzo ball soups, 2 sandwiches and some bagels), the food unfortunately did not live up. The pastrami sandwich was cold when we got it, and didn't melt in the mouth. The matzo ball soup was really just a chicken noodle soup (shredded chicken and everything) but with a matzo ball in it. Another thing to be aware of is the poor logistics currently at the restaurant. We waited around 30 mins for our order, and in that span of time, we witnessed one person's order missing brisket, which was their main order (and they had to wait another 20 minutes to get the missing part of their order). We saw another pickup order that wasn't received so they waited 20 minutes in their car to get their pre-ordered food made. Someone who ordered days ago, but it still took them around 15 minutes to wave someone down to pick up their order, they tried to ring the bell, but the bell was broken. Overall, if you are in any kind of rush, be aware that your food may not be timely even if pre-ordering, and always check your takeout bag before leaving to make sure you have everything you paid for. read more

Over the past 4 years I have made the trek from Fremont to get their brisket or pastrami sandwiches on marbled rye, latkes, variety of freshly baked bagels, white fish salad, lox bagel sandwich, smoked salmon bagel sandwich and many many matzo ball soups. The pickles are delightful and their cheesecake is now a necessity for every order. I think that their prices are fair and as a result they can keep an awesome and capable kitchen crew. The revamped inside has come a very long way from elks folding tables for dine in, but their thoughtful packaging works for a good takeaway dining experience also. read more

Yes, these sandwiches cost a lot, but for very good reasons. They really want you to experience a certain something in a good amount of physical space, and in order for them to be able to do that for you, it costs more than you might expect a sandwich would. A friend picked up a group to-go order for us, and everything was quite good. The turkey sandwich Seattle style on marble rye was my favorite. My wife loved the matzoh ball soup (great broth, balls a little softer than is her preference). The potato salad was aces and the black and white cookies with the hint of lemon and thick frosting -- delightful. Friends who ordered the brisket really liked it. I'm not used to rugalach being cakey (in my experience it's more of a layered, flaky cookie/pastry and less squishy cake, which these were) but it was still good. I love the online order/pick up option and look forward to getting challah in the future. I'm usually someone who only goes out of her way to compliment places but I'm so disappointed in my recent run at Dingfelder's that I thought it was important to let them know why they've lost a regular customer. Pros: let's start with the pros. The food is amazing. Every single time. And this is coming from a Montreal jew transplant to the Pacific Northwest. Love the food! The sandwiches are to die for, side pickles delicious, and that cheesecake! Cons: customer service. It just always feels like we are bothering the staff. I order food ahead of time online. I tip what I think is generously- more so now because it's a pandemic and it's the least we can do to support local business. But the food is never ready when we show up and they seem annoyed at picking it up. The size of the potato salad also feels like adding insult to injury. It's a $20 sandwich and the side comes in one of those fast food ketchup containers? So two bites? Come on- it's potatoes, how much could they cost you? But the final straw was today: we've been craving these sandwiches so bad but we have a young baby so leaving the house is an issue, especially with the I5 closure. No problem, we thought we had the perfect plan: order at 2pm for 3pm pick up- give them an hour at a slow time on a Sunday. Right? Wrong. We show up at 3pm and they say it'll be at least 20 more minutes. At least. We have a fussy baby in the car from the ride over. There's just no way to make that work (plus what if it's more than 20 min?) so we will have to leave hungry. To their credit they offered a snack while we wait, apologized, and quickly processed our cancelation. But come on- I was willing to pay $40 plus tip for two sandwiches and already waited and hour. It's one topping and dressing on bread. How could that possibly take longer to make that than the time it took to issue a refund? I'm just bummed- I love this food, and I'm glad they're busy and business seems good. I'm not saying we will never be back but it's just too unreliable for our life circumstances now. read more

The beef tongue sandwich was loaded with meat and oh was it tender! Omg we dreamt of that tongue that night so had it again the next day!!! We've had plenty of pastrami sandwiches around New York including Katz deli and this does an amazing job and may even be better! The matzah ball soup brings me back to my childhood and my grandmas neighbors house, its full of vegetables, chicken, and a matzah ball the size of a peewee baseball in it. Grandma is should be sainted for this recipe! The pastrami sandwich is unreal, with one pound of pastrami, slaw, Russian dressing, and mustard; I would wait outside in a blizzard for one of these. My daughter has declared their cheesecake the "the best cheesecake she has ever eaten" and I do not disagree. If you have never been here drop what you are doing and go now. If you have been to Dingfelder's why are you not there now enjoying a delicious bowl of soup or the greatest sandwich in Seattle? I've been trying for three days to place an order for Sufganiyots. On Wednesday, I was told to place it Friday morning. This morning comes, I go online and there's no option. I call back and spoke with a friendly woman who says it's likely not showing because it's not part of their breakfast menu (though all the dinner options were there). She told me to try again later and if there's still problems I can call back and they'll help me. I called just minutes ago, after once again not seeing it online, and told the man I've been trying to place an order. Before I can finish asking for help, he starts laughing and mimics that I've "been trying". I wasn't sure if he was empathizing or mocking me, so I was silent for a moment as I processed and then he rudely stated to try again tomorrow and that they're busy. At this point, his behavior is clear and I begin to tell him that was rude. He then hung on me. I fully get your swamped. I've been extremely patient. I would've continued that patience and tried again tomorrow, if the man would've been a decent human. But I will not support a place that treats customers so rudely and like a nuisance. I expect you to show the same grace in patience that I'm willing to extend you. read more

I don't understand the strong reviews for this place other than maybe Seattle is weak on good delicatessens. I arrived around 11:30 on a Monday. A few people eating in and there appeared to be a strong takeout business. I ordered at the counter, a pastrami rueben sandwich that came with coleslaw and pickles along with a Dr Brown soda. I waited 15 minutes for my lunch, which is not considered long, but based on what I got, I was surprised it took so long. Rather than a pile of thinly sliced pieces of pastrami, I received a few thick slices (similar to thickness of barbecue brisket). Definitely not the right slicing for a sandwich, or at least not for this seasoned foodie? Sad to say, but the bread, dressing and sauerkraut were better than the meat. Definitely not worth the $28 price tag. The side of coleslaw was in the smallest sample cup, I've ever seen. Costco gives bigger samples. The accompanying pickles were good but oddly shaped slices.
