You can see how much fried oil permeated the meat.

I just needed a quick snack the other day and wasn't feeling fried chicken. So to my surprise, they had Mac n cheese that slapped. Not literally, they'd be outta business if they did. But the flavors and pasta were on point. And not to mention the cheesy goodness. If you're making REAL Mac n cheese there is always a cheesy top and they delivered here. Crunchy cheese with a cheese pull. That's a win in my book. So even if you're not feeling polo then go for the cheese pull. Update: I actually had the tenders and they were not tender at all. Unfortunately, I received their fried tenders when I asked for "naked" but was already home so was stuck. The tender was over cooked and dry dry. I don't know if the TX sweltering heat + radiant heat entombed in the truck got to the cooking process but it wasn't pleasant, sadly. I would've eaten those Tyson chicken nuggets out of the bag instead at this point. I wish their namesake item was as delicious as it seems. But in my case, looks were deceiving. The Mac n cheese review is the saving Grace.

Really tasty stuff here! Love that the menu is simple yet has options to make your meal unique. I was so close to getting the naked tenders but got the og breaded tenders instead so I could get a better feel for this place. Tenders were HUGE, hot, and crispy! Fries were classic and plentiful. Loved the red curry sauce and love sauce. The ancho avocado ranch was definitely more of an aioli than a ranch but im a ranch fanatic so maybe it just wasn't what I expected. But we were overall impressed with all of the sauces we tried. 3 for $1 is an awesome deal for sauces too. They had a ton of orders so told us it would take about 20 min. Ended up taking about 13, so not a bad wait. I think they should consider texting through their ordering platform when your food is ready so you don't have to stay too close by. Staff was so friendly! We had a great time.

We both subbed beans for mac and cheese. My friend appeared the most jolly I'd ever seen him and thoroughly enjoyed the chicken. I really liked the mac and cheese, and I liked the chicken as well. The coleslaw was decent, and I often don't like coleslaw. The skin was tough and too much for me, but the food itself was great. The two piece was substantial for me, and the four piece seemed to be a little too much even for a big boy. The restroom floors were suspiciously very wet. I feel like they could provide some moist towelettes because the chicken was very greasy, and we had to just pour water on the napkins. Downtown street parking was a struggle, but I found 2/3 of a spot close by that I decided could count as a spot.

There was a small hiccup with the sides, but the staff was quick to fix it. The sides were good, and the chicken was juicy, flavorful, and didn't need any extra seasoning at all. I just wish the chicken pieces had been a little bigger! Overall, I had a good dining experience. The restaurant was clean and cozy, the service was great, and the chicken was delicious!

Spicy Boys has four locations in the Austin area, with probably their most popular at Zilker Brewing. They are a spicy chicken establishment and their spicy chicken comes in different shapes and sizes from bone-in fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, and nuggets. I have only ever ordered their fried chicken sandwich and every time, I have been a fan. I always get their middle option in heat, the Hot Gai, which is sandwiched between the OG and the Tingly Gai. It hits every time. The mayonnaise, the pickles, the perfectly crisp chicken: you can't miss it. As a side, I ALWAYS without fail get their Tater Tots. They are consistently crispy while remaining soft on the inside. Sometimes I will get it seasoned with their Tingly Sichuan, but the heat is sometimes too much. I cannot recommend the tots enough. Spicy Boys is one of those places that is always there for you. They are consistently open and the people making the orders are putting a ton of dedication into making them smack every time. The sandwich alone comes at $9.50 with the tots at $3.50, which seems on par or slightly lower than a typical food truck if my memory serves me right. I recommend giving them a shot whether you are at Spokesman in Pflugerville, St. Elmo Brewing, or Zilker off 6th Street. It's in the upper echelon of food trucks. RIYL: peak chicken sammys

But the staff handled it really well. They were fast, apologetic, and refreshingly colloquial, not stiff or robotic, just real people taking care of customers and keeping things moving. Since fried chicken was off the table, I went with the grilled chicken, and honestly it was excellent. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and flavorful enough that it did not feel like a consolation prize. Maybe this was the universe giving my cholesterol a temporary reprieve. The collards were just okay and not the strongest part of the meal, but everything else made up for it. The restaurant itself was super clean, and you could tell this newer location is well cared for. At about two years old, it still felt sharp, polished, and well run. I've been to several Hattie B's locations over the years, including the original in Nashville, Franklin, and Atlanta, where I once saw a woman riding a horse down the street in front of the store, which remains one of the more unforgettable restaurant-adjacent moments of my life. Austin compared well with all of them. Bonus points, there was no line, so we had a quick lunch with coworkers and still made it to the airport early. Not the exact Hattie B's experience we expected, but still a very good one, and a place I'd absolutely come back to.

Mona's (a portmanteau of the parents names' first syllables) has a small menu of traditional offerings, from samosas, patties, parata rolls, and chutneys. The truck is helmed by Momma Mona but her twin sons run the operations and have crafted the recipes. I tried several items and it is absolutely ridiculous how delicious everything was. The samasos of potato (papa) were expertly crafted and reminded me of flautas de papa when they are done right. Crispy, flavorful, and "light" ... just perfect. The parata rolls, made from an egg based recipe, was expertly crafted; the shami kabab was filled with beef. Paired with the mint chutney, it was a great balance. The sauces were on point and varied in heat level, but nothing excessive. Sameer (sp?) explained that the sauces are a bit on the milder side to accomodate the taste palate but the spiciest version had some punch. Last but not least was the beef patty which was a stellar, absolutely phenomenal flaky pastry with their signature shredded spicy chicken. It rivaled some of the best bakery offerings I've had, the flakiness left me laughing out loud from the quality. Whenever I venture into another culture's cuisine, I can certainly tell if I like it or not, but not how rooted the dishes are. I appreciated Sameer's discussion of his families food; his mom has been in the industry for years and finally decided to venture out with her twin sons. I'm glad they did. The craziest realization was that there was likely so many drunk patrons who stumble out of Shangrila at 2:10AM likely have no idea they had some of the best Pakistani food you can find. *Shout out to Joe from Taano Beverages for the rec; he's neighbors with Mona's. Always lovely to see small business genuinely support other small businesses.

Rating: 4.3/5 [Delivery]…read more I found Delulu on UberEats (4.8 stars) and Google (5 stars) but didn't see it on Yelp. They were running a BOGO deal on Postmates so we decided to try it, and they did not disappoint! Generous portion sizes that could easily feed a family. The flavors were bold--sometimes a little overwhelming--so the whole meal felt like going from one extreme to another. Mango Crunch ($12.99): Lettuce, cabbage, kale, and mango salad tossed in green ranch, topped with LimeLu bites. This was yummy and could have been my favorite if it wasn't drenched in dressing. They added so much green ranch that I had to mix in rice to balance it out. Big Lu ($18.99): Comes with two chicken bites and two sides. The chicken was juicy, not super crispy after delivery, but still tasty. MadLu: Green curry, sour cream, and hot sauce. I expected Thai-inspired flavors since their sandwich version is called Mad Thai, but it leaned more Indian with the green curry. WaterLu: Hot maple, mustard, and smoked butter. I liked it better without the mustard since it was very strong and overpowering. Rice & Noods: Skip this side. The noodles were hard, and this side didn't add much. Fries: Nothing special, but good if you crisp them up in an air fryer. Corn Ribs ($5.90): Tossed with chili cream and spicy togarashi. The corn was soft, flavorful, and easily the best corn ribs we've had in Austin so far. Not sure which item the pickled cucumber, cabbage, and onion salad came with, but it was very sour.
