I've been coming to fish society quite recently and most of everything I've had have been really good. They have an extensive menu and it never takes too long for the food to come out. I asked to use the check-in offer while ordering and was told they can't use it because it was currently brunch and they didn't serve smoked Gouda grit balls during brunch even though it clearly says "Substitute beignets during brunch". So that was the first disappointment. Then our food arrives and my seasonal grain bowl which was also disappointing. The chickpeas were so hard and the cauliflower chunks tasted so old and stale like they had been sitting in a fridge for a long time with other ingredients absorbing the smell of the other ingredients. The cauliflower had such an odd and weird taste. My husband hated his fried chicken biscuit and gravy. The chicken was so dry and had a very weird texture like it was a processed kind of chicken. Dish society had the perfect vibes for a brunch/lunch date. I got a crispy chicken kale cesar salad- it was good but kind of dry. Kale is already a pretty dry vegetable and with dry chicken paired with it, the full potential of the dish was not brought out. My friend did like his pesto chicken burger though! We are over. Their delivery. Is kaput. My cousin sent me food from them years ago for my birthday and I was in love. I've passed by it a million times and the parking is always crazy so I normally just get delivery. I tend to pick their in-house delivery bc it lists it as their preferred choice. Disaster. After a few incidents when I ordered delivery - wrong items, cold potatoes, overcooked eggs etc and missing condiments, I took a break. Today I treated myself with delivery. Ordered tacos with red salsa, pancakes, and side of potatoes. Paid the $7 delivery fee. Made a note to please include syrup since the last 3x that did not happen and guess what? No salsa for my tacos...again. and no syrup...again. I didn't call to complain because the first time this happened, the worker asked me to drive up there. Why would I pay $7 for delivery and then drive up there to get a syrup that they forgot or I could wait 30 min? I opted out. And vowed that it was over. But like a typical woman, I couldn't quit them. The part that is so bothersome is the food is good BUT this has happened too many times for me to ever do delivery again. Are they not checking the orders before they deliver or hand it off? The answer is NO. Bye Dish Society. Holy cow...best food I've had in Houston right here... the hot chicken sandwich has the best coleslaw, flavorful and juicy meat, and a perfectly toasted pretzel bun. Came with a group of friends, four of us in total. Waited in line for food about 10-15min on Saturday around brunch time and were able to get a table easily enough. Got a Bloody Mary and it was decent, and ordered it as the carafe to get a better deal. Definitely would do that again. For lunch I had the shrimp and grits, which were just OK (weirdly a little watery or weak in flavor). Definitely a ton of other places in Houston where you can get better, shrimp and grits. My friend got the seasonal grain bowl with salmon which actually looked really good. Possible that I just didn't get the right think this trip, so willing to try again in future and then update my review. Upon walking in you're prompted to order and pay first. From there you are given a number and freedom to pick where you want to sit. Boyfriend and I were luck to find a space accommodating for our party of two but I did notice as new parties rolled in there was kinda a scramble for seating arrangements. Food was great! Best biscuits I've had and the gravy was very flavorful. Chicken did get kinda soggy but I'm a slow eater so probably eater error lol. I believe it was $14 and some change for the entree. We also got the pretzel and cheese dip. Personally wouldn't order this again the cheese was a little off putting but could be personal preference. There was a slight line to order but no indoor tables so we sat outside which was nice but the sun was very strong and hard to avoid despite the umbrella. The scenery was nice though. Casual setting & good food! Location/parking: Since it's located in the Heights, it's super convenient for lunch after exploring everything the area has to offer! Unfortunately though it's parking gets pretty full. We went for Sunday brunch and luckily waited long enough to get a spot. There is another lot somewhere but not knowing the area made it challenging to understand where it was. There is street parking around as well if you're willing to walk. Seating: There was a long line to order so we were pretty worried about seating since the inside didn't seem that big. We were able to get a table which means people don't hang around too long which is great for nabbing a table. Once we got our spot we also realized there was patio seating on most sides outside as well. Ordering: You have to order before finding a table. They do have paper menus and QR codes. Despite being Sunday brunch, the long line moved very quickly ! However the line is right off the entry door and does feel very cramped. Food: We had the salmon bagel which came with tons of greens ! It was super delicious. We also got the Nutella French toast! Sweet, but not too sweet. I do like that the serving sizes aren't overly huge. It's a good amount, and can definitely allow for leftovers, but it's not excessive. If you're going for Sunday brunch, don't be put off by the full parking lot and long order line. Ugh I'm honestly so conflicted on this review. The food was verrryyy tasty- I got the spicy chicken and biscuits- packs of savory, rich flavor and perfectly seasoned. But compared to other breakfast spots that price the same, they provide way more food lol. My main gripe though was seating was a huge pain and service was practically nonexistent. Upon entrance there was a sign saying you need to order first before getting a table but also a ordering booth that was fine with taking orders lol. That would lead into the next problem if I did end up ordering food first before grabbing a table... finding a table was a pain in the butt. And in order to eat our food without having to wait more, we decided to eat outside. The "fans" they have outside literally just blow hot air lol. We finally found a table on the side of the resto since it was a bit cooler although I was definitely sweattttiinngggg, and the table was empty for a while and was so dirty... the ladies sitting beside us even had questions for where to deposit their dishes/if anyone was going to help them or us with how much stuff we had to move around. The bar is full service for those that don't want to order at the register but it was full. And by the time we were up at the register, there were tables available. The children's menu is fixed and not varied but tasty. The dishes on the menu are really tasty and different. I love to find this kind of food in Houston. We have been there several times but our favorites are Citrus Glazed Salmon, Shrimp & Grits, Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast among others. If you are going to order drinks, do it in advance, it has happened to us that we finished dinner and the drinks were just arriving. Recommendation, bring an extra coat, it is very cold. We ordered our food for pickup close to closing time and got our food pretty quick! We got the hot chicken sandwich and the chicken pesto sandwich. The hot chicken one was super flavorful and the coleslaw was a great pairing. The pesto sandwich was incredibly salty :(. It was not very edible - don't know if it was an accident or if that is the recipe. The restaurant was closing down for the night, so I can understand if that's why our host did not give us a drink, just the cup lol. This was my first time eating at this particular location. I really like Dish Society. The food is really good, the service is great, and I love the laid back feel. This particular location has a lunch counter where you can order food to go. They have a nice patio out front and there's a parking lot in the back. They had a new cocktail on the menu called Pacific Empress. I love a good cucumber drink, but I'm not big on lavender (love the smell of it, but not so much the taste). I decided to try it. I was a little scared when I saw how purple it was, but I could barely taste the lavender so that was a relief. It was really good! We shared a plate of pretzel bites with queso. Those things are so good! For my entrée I had the Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich. I subbed the goat cheese for cheddar cheese. The pretzel bun that it came on was absolutely delicious! The sandwich was really filling! I wasn't able to eat all of it. I had house chips. These were okay. You could definitely tell that they were made from scratch, but some pieces were a bit soft and others were crunchy. I didn't eat very many of them. Our server did a great job. She along with the other staff were really friendly. If you check in on the app, you will get a coupon for a free order of the Gouda Grit Balls. This was our first time here. We ordered at the front and the cashier repeated our order. His recap was accurate I paid for the order and of course you are asked to include a tip. I hate this practice as you are tipping based on a service you have not received. So I tip 15% and we grab our number and head to our table. We are having breakfast so we ordered coffee and milk for our son. We wait about 15 minutes and our food comes. We have not received our drinks. We ask the server who brought the food and he tells us someone else should bring our coffee but he will get it. We finish our meal without anyone else stopping by. We stop a server and let her know what happened at this point we ask for our coffee to go with sugar and cream. She apologizes and brings us 2 cups of black coffee to go about 5 minutes later with no cream. We were disappointed with the service. I had the breakfast skillet which was decent. I order this veggie bowl, I saw the person take it to the person sitting across from me. They had mixed the order. The person in front of me reached into the bowl and took the sprouts and shoved them into his mouth. The waiter then realizing his mistake, took the plate away and gave his original order. They took my plate to the back added more sprouts and came back to my table and swore that mine was in the back being worked on. I asked for them to make a new one. I waited 15-20 minutes for a "new" bowl. It was the same bowl, chicken was cold to the touch. Something I enjoyed was the variety of carbonated drinks and juices that were available with unlimited refills and there is a self serve drink station. I ordered the omelet and diced potatoes with a beef smoked sausage. The potatoes were seasoned well and paired well with the smoked sausage. The omelet was okay what i enjoyed most is that the eggs are the Vital Farm brand eggs which are pasteur raised eggs. I will visit this establishment again.
