Food was decent. I love that this is a farm to table establishment. When you check in with Yelp you get free Gouda balls or beignets if it's during brunch. The beignets were meh. Definitely no comparison to Cafe Du Mont. I didn't care for the coffee dipping sauce only cause I don't drink coffee. Husband had the 44 chimichurri steak taco with a side of pork sausage. He loved the tacos. He doesn't like black beans so he didn't eat those. Only complaint was his sausage was pink on the inside. It didn't get cooked all the way. I had the southern breakfast skillet. I enjoyed it but felt it was just meh I didn't like all the little charred pieces of sausage in the bottom. My eggs were cooked nicely-over easy. One kid had the pork belly hash. He said it was a bit salty. He did like dads side of black beans. I found them to be bland. Other son had the chicken and biscuits. He said it was good. The house lemonade was tasty. I enjoyed it. The atmosphere is loud but fun. I think overall the food is okay. Eating local doesn't have to = bland food. I will say it was very busy as we went in the am for brunch and there was a gentleman who I presume may have been the manager and he was doing everything- bussing tables, taking orders, cleaning, everything. I'm not from the area, but the Houston location is one of my favorite places to have tried while passing through. The Katy location didn't live up to that experience. They were out of the one item I wanted to try, so I opted not to eat. I was mainly wanting to feed my 4 year old anyway as we had been on the road for a while with farther to go. She chose the buttered noodles. It wasn't a peak time and there very few people there. Took entirely too long to get her simple meal. Employees wondering about, seeming unconcerned, and no apology for the delay. Just an unpleasant experience. An out of the ordinary American diner. Every part of my breakfast was a step up from what I'm used to. The BLT sandwich had a garlic aioli spread that changed the taste of the whole sandwich in a good way. I'm pretty sure that the potato chips that come with the sandwich were homemade. But don't waste stomach space on chips when you can order smoked Gouda grits... it's worth the trip just to get those grits! read more

It was okay but for as pricey as the food is the portions could be bigger, and the menu more descriptive in terms of what comes on the order. I ordered shrimp and grits and the menu described shrimp, grits, cheese, but I do not recall reading there would be an over easy egg. I do not like my eggs over easy so I would have preferred to omit it. The same with my man, he does not like gravy on his biscuits so had he known the chicken biscuits came with gravy he would have not ordered it. When the food came as good as it looked I did not want to send it back do to ignorance so I ate around the egg, and he just ate the chicken. On the upside my daughter was able to eat free. For the price that this place charges, it really should be better. Its cool having all these plates with organic ingredients and presentation, however I like to eat food because it tastes good, not because it looks good, nor will I shell out extra for organic/fresh ingredients to make myself feel better if it doesn't also taste good. I came for breakfast and my scrambled eggs were very watery, and the "fresh" fruit it came with was mostly stale. The Grilled Chicken Pesto that everyone and their mothers are throwing fits about is kind of an overcooked flavorless piece of chicken hastily covered in Pesto sauce and served. The Salad I ate a different time was also pretty average, again I had the same stale ingredients, which is shame when you pay an extra $8 for old salmon. The juices were pretty good, but then you remember you paid $6 for a small glass of juice, and you want to eat the tiny glass it comes in. The people who come here and give a five star review because they are so happy to be eating organically at the new hip place at La Centerra honestly deserve to lose their money for not listening to their taste buds. Maybe next time I'll sample their alcohol selections, as it might make the food easier to consume. All in all, your money is much better used being thrown into an actual toilet (which were actually pretty clean in the restaurant, no complaints there). Just to clarify, the food here doesn't suck. It is okay tasting food. However, since this place charges you extra for the organic ingredients, it is inexcusable that the food taste so average. read more

The steak was overcooked and the 'brisket' was very dry (also debatable that it was actually brisket). We did curbside and that was subpar also. i wanted to love this place. i really really did. so here's the thing. i'm from Austin. (ok. i'm from here, actually, but i've been living in Austin for the past 15+ years - but i digress) So, I was overjoyed at the thought of a farm to table in Katy and close to me. Sooooo, i convince Mom's that we really Must lunch there and we roll out to La Centera for some shopping and lunch. The location is cute and it is well decorated with waiters in matching yellow gingham shirts and beards. It was hipster central. I felt at home! My mother didn't - she was weirded out by the beards. There was a nice patio but it was almost empty which i found strange on such a nice day... We opted for indoor seating and found more emptiness. Now i am starting to get a clue... We asked for bench seating and were told yes, then told "no - that section isn't ready". Um, ok? There was no one there and there was clearly no one working on a section, we could see the entire place, But, whatever. We are seated and handed menus, we see a waiter pretty quickly. I ordered the pork belly bites to start because, well, i love pork belly, and because every one has raved about them. I am also trying to expand moms culinary horizons. They come out pretty quickly and they look like it. They basically look flung onto the plate. They are covered in a heap of maple syrup and are barely warm. I do not think they were cooked to order. They were good because they were pork belly, but not because of anything Dish Society had done. i was disappointed. For mains mom ordered a pear salad and added chicken and i had the shrimp and grits. Moms salad was "boring" and had "no seasoning" and she wondered "how you can mess up a salad". le sigh. I found it hard to argue with her. My shrimp and grits were good, except for the sauce. It was awful. It didn't go with the buttery gouda grits and it's vinegar base was just off putting. i actually called the waiter over to inquire about the sauce. He didn't seem to care why i was asking or ask me if i was enjoying my dish. The grits were cooked well. The shrimp were ok. Everything was just MEH. i wouldn't drive across town to pay for a meal again... I mean, i would try it again if it came up but i wouldn't go out of my way. Sorry Dish Society, Katy is not Austin. I really wanted to like this place since it is farm to table, but I've tried this location twice now and have not walked away impressed. It's good for a lunch outing for something basic (salad or sandwich), but it did not wow my socks off. I got the Cobb salad (GF), and the waiter accidentally knocked my water over spilled it into the salad...so I had a soggy salad. I've tried the Brussel Sprouts Super Salad before and enjoyed it to a certain point, but grew tired of it quickly. A popular place so we gave it a try twice. Love the location next to the little park in La Centerra shopping complex. We like eating on the patio and both times the weather was nice. We ate lunch one time and supper the next. The Brisket Stuffer Sweet Potato was good but...I prefer the brisket on a stuffed baking potato. It was OK but I will not order it again. Now, the Shrimp & Grits I liked and will order it again. The Gouda & beacon addition really makes the grits. Even if you do not care for normal breakfast grits, you may like these grits. For me the juices such as the "Entry Level: is an acquired taste type of drink. I went back and got tea. I suspect people into vegetable drinks might like it. The place is definitely casual. and their pitch is locally sourced food. I like the concept but cannot testify that I could tell the difference from other restaurants food bought from somewhere else. I like the location, the food, the cleanliness, the price, and the casual atmosphere. The locally sourced food is nice because I like to support local business. I came here with a friend after attempting to come twice during the soft opening. When we arrived, the hostess told us that we couldn't eat outside because there were no tables and that someone was sitting at one that was clear. We said we would wait then one of the servers said she would clear off a table. They should have done that From the beginning instead of trying to steer us into sitting inside. Once we were seated the server took a little too long to get our drink order which we were understanding with since they haven't been open very long. We ordered the goat cheese Crostini appetizer. Dissapointing. While the flavOr was good, it defintely was not very large in portion size, barely enough for 2 people. The bananas foster desert was just okay. My friend had over cooked chicken and mine was bland. It was also not cut right. One of the managers was dismissive of all of our concerns. Great spot for a casual dinner. The strawberry palmer cocktail was refreshing and so delicious. The gouda queso dip was amazing but they don't give you enough bread and we ended up with a lot of dip left. I ordered the blt and my husband had the tacos. We both enjoyed them very much. My husband did say that had he not had a beer with his dinner he might have been a little hungry still. The food took a little longer than I expected to come out but we had our drinks and queso and were pretty happy. Will definitely be back to try some other things on the menu. read more

Came to the restaurant around 9 on a Friday night and it was not fairly packed. Got seated right away and we ordered our food quickly. I ordered a shrimp taco and my husband ordered a carnitas plate. We also got an appetizer-pretzel with cheese plate but the server told us that they ran out for the night. So we told the server we will order a bread pudding instead. After a long wait, about 15 to 20 mins, the server brought out the dessert! Can't believe she expected us to eat the dessert when we don't even have our main entree. She then told us she will take it back. Then, 5 mins later she finally brought out my shrimp tacos. It was just 2 tacos with a few pieces of shrimp and lettuce on top and it was $12. One of the worst tacos I ever had! Tortilla was hard and cold as well. I was almost done with my taco and my husband still do not have his plate. I asked the server why it's taking so long since its been more than 20 mins. And surprisingly, the server told me that she FORGOT to put the order for the carnitas plate. This was my first time ever hearing from a server that he/she forgot to put in an order! The server offered to put it in again but knowing that it will take another 20mins wait, my husband left the restaurant WITHOUT his dinner! Love this place. Very unique menu and love the farm to table concept. My family had breakfast there and liked it so much I brought my wife back for happy hour on our anniversary. For breakfast my son & I each had the Pork belly hash. It had lots of flavor and very filling. My wife had Brisket & eggs. I loved the grits that came with it. And she thoroughly enjoyed the rest. My other son stuck to a traditional eggs, bacon & toast. All the food comes from area farms and very good. For happy hour, we ordered the Pork Belly bites & Pretzels with queso. Both were excellent! I had 2 drafts, Guns & Oil and a Bombshell Blonde. The Guns & Oil was slightly lighter but both very good. But love the Guns & Oil name. How Texas is that? My wife had a Red Berry Sangria and then a Peach Sangria. She liked them both but slightly favored the Red Berry. The happy hour prices are really good too. Happy hour is 3:30-6:30. Our waiter Jason was great too and had terrific recommendations. This is our new favorite place in Katy! read more

We've been 7-8 times now. My biggest issue is the inconsistency. The grilled chicken has ranged from dry and over cooked to moist and over seasoned. The mashed sweet potatoes are always good and the Brussels sprouts have been excellent one night and swimming in vinegar two nights later. Breakfast dishes seem to be a better bet. The southwest scramble (substituted gouda grits for potatoes) has always been good. Fast forward to a Door Dash order from last night, salad was good but missing the chicken I paid an extra $4.50. The pesto pasta was okay, but the chicken was dry and salty. My kids did enjoy the shrimp pasta. I'll stick to breakfasts at Dish Society. read more

I don't want this to sound negative, but I have mixed feelings on 'Houston' establishments branching out to Katy. On one hand, I don't have to go anywhere to get anywhere. But on the other hand, I don't have to go anywhere to get anywhere. But this is one of those places that Katy desperately needed - you can't ever go wrong with a local farm-to-table restaurant and just a year after Dish Society opened in the Galleria, Aaron Lyons is on to something opening his second location. The location is great, the atmosphere is great, the food is fantastic, but the service...I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, and I know they've only been open a month. But. That's almost enough time. The Harvest Salad was crunchy and fresh, but the soft boiled egg was a bit off putting. It tasted good over all, even the second day, but I don't think I'll get it again. Everything else, from the shrimp and grits, BYO farmers plate, to the Southwest Scramble and migas at brunch are delicious. Portion sizes vary, the Southwest Scramble could easily have been two meals, but the migas only one. If you made me pick a night to go, I'd say Monday for the half price bottles of wine. Which brings me to drinks - prickly pear mimosas (because brunch without drinks is just a sad late breakfast) are a great idea on both paper and in execution. The flat white roasted by Greenway was great. Or, go during Social Hour you could get you some Guns & Oil, or another local brew FOR $3.50. (3:30 - 6:30, M-F). Sit on the patio with a drink, start off with some pretzels and queso, and people watch the night away with some shrimp and grits. There's a reason they're a house favorite. read more

My first time here and it wasn't as expected. You walk in, pick up a menu, swing right to look at the menu with the rest of the crowd and large families. Once you've made your decision, you go up to the counter and place your order. She hands you the receipt and you fill it out. If you pay by card you put tip on there. So I added the tip. She hands you some glasses and your order number to place on the table, you get your own drinks and try to find a table that is clean. Food didn't take long to come out but don't ask me what my server looked like, male or female, short or tall. I don't even remember seeing the server. My food just miraculously appeared. Anyways, the food is good and I gave it four stars pretty much because of the location. Outdoor seating is wonderful when the weather is right! We both ordered the sweet potato topped with brisket. One word. Heaven. Yes, this is what I imagine heaven to be like. I'm not sure how to review this spot. On one hand I'm a big fan of restaurants serving local food, and I have no problem with the fast casual concept here. I even kind of like the hipster-y decor. On the other hand, if it hadn't been for the one member of the staff who was doing absolutely everything, I would've thought good and hard about leaving - I've encountered friendlier and more useful staffs at fast food joints. So here's the summary: 3.5 star food, 1 star for the ambiance on my visit, and 5 stars for Jessica. Walked around the corner to order at the counter, and almost scared the lady working to death when I tried to get her attention. She proceeded to ring the order up wrong. Twice. After getting that ironed out (it was a party of 9) and finding out that a breakfast restaurant was out of toast (???), I waited for the much-hyped food to arrive. I had the Breakfast Sandwich, which was a satisfying amount of food for breakfast. The pretzel bun had a good texture, but needed salt. The egg was fried well and oozed all over the sandwich as expected. One thin slice of ham was invisible underneath the egg. The potatoes on the side were unexpectedly spicy, and otherwise completely unseasoned - at least they were crispy. The rest of the group had similar feedback about their food - not up to the hype, but a decent breakfast nonetheless. The strangest thing about this visit was there were two folks wearing Dish Society swag having conversations with the staff - I assume managers or owners? They made precisely zero attempt at engaging with the customers, which may be where the staff learned it. With a little work this could be a great spot. read more

There was also gnats flying around the drink dispenser - one of which ended up in my wife's water. The food with the longest hair in it was replaced - but the damage had been done.
