I always make it a point to dine here whenever I visit Austin. I absolutely love the ambiance, the fact that all their gluten free options are clearly marked and the quality of the food! For dinner I had the bison burger on a gluten free bun and a side of risotto! It was absolutely delicious! I came back for brunch and the star was their bacon and I loved their grits for brunch. This is honestly the best weekly happy hour in town including craft cocktails! (I believe it's from 4-6 on weekdays and includes a happy hour small bite menu!) We have been here several times over the years. In the last few visits, things seem to be declining. We got there at 3:15 today (Friday). There was one other table outside and didn't seem to be anyone inside. A waiter dropped off the menu at 3:20 and came back at 3:52 to take our drink order. The waiter had trouble opening the wine, which is fine but....he tried to hide that he broke the cork (again fine..we made a joke about it). However, then he got a DIRTY rag from their cleaning station and stuck it in our wine bottle to clean out the cork. Then he left the dirty rag on our table the entire time. We had ordered sparkling waters with our wine. About 20 mins after the wine arrived, I asked about the waters. The waiter told me that they had to come from the bar and bartender had been unavailable during that time (I am not going to put what he said, but also..doesn't the wine come from the bar too?). The oysters and charcuterie took forever. The oysters were not even detached from the shells. They put fresh grated horseradish which was like chewing tree bark ( it was dried out). The charcuterie board was fine, except one of the cheeses tasted like it had been in a fridge too long and absorbed some of those smells (not in a good way). People looked at our table 5 times, seeing the empty oyster platter that was melting everywhere, and never bothered to ask if it should be removed. We finally had to ask. Once they picked it up, there was a lot of water from the melted ice in the middle of the table. No one thought it would be a good idea to wipe that off either. We ended up being there for a few hours and noticed it doesn't get packed the way it used to. I understand why. I am not sure what has changed over the last year or two, but it is steadily declining. It is a shame because it is a great location. I hope you figure out how to improve this before it is too late. read more

Got food poisoning from their chicken kabob or mashed potatoes. Also, falafel tasted raw and gooey, so we just sent it back right away. I've dined here about 5-7 times over the last couple years and I can clearly see how the food changed from 'pretty good' to 'not so good, we shouldn't come back'. This time we aren't coming back for sure, after the ruined night and having to take a sick day next day to deal with the poisoning. This place was absolutely great! We sat outside on the patio with our dog. Seems to always be a busy place.. took about 40 mins to get a spot on a weekday. For dinner we shared a bunch of dishes: Chicken Milanese: definitely the star of the show. Chicken was cooked perfectly, not oily at all, and the sauce was spot on! One of those things I left thinking I should learn how to make on my own! The rest was from the HH menu: Lamb kabob: my favorite of the 3 we got Chicken Karaage: good, but not as crisp or seasoned as I'd like Shishito peppers: good, what one would expect Overall great experience! Great HH out on the patio. I like to take my dog and relax for an hour or so and enjoy a few snacks. I've had the shishito peppers (always a win), lamb kabobs, and truffle prosciutto naan (they do it on toast now though). For dinner I keep going back to the pork chop. My least favorite dish I've ever had here was a crab sandwich. Margs are good and strong. Haven't had dessert yet but I really want to! Staff are always friendly and helpful. read more

My Partner and I loved the lighting and the layout. The Jalapeño Cheddar Bread and the Caesar Salad were great starters. The Texas Wagyu Steak and the Bolognese were tasty and cooked well. To finish off the night, we got the Crème Brûlée Brownie which was so so delicious. We would come again and highly recommend. It was so big and hearty and the bread was toasted to a perfect crisp but it wasn't too crispy to the point where you have to brace yourself because one bite is going to absolutely destroy your mouth. Met up with a friend I hadn't seen in over a year, y'all know why. We did a Sunday brunch on the patio, which was social distanced from other tables. We split two carafes of mimosas, which were well priced for brunch. We also split the Honey Buttermilk biscuits and I highly recommend those. She had the shakshuka and I had the breakfast sammy. I found the sandwich to be missing something, maybe a more prominent cheese. It looked amazing but it just needed more flavor somehow. It was good but I'd probably try something else next time. My friend enjoyed her shakshuka. The staff was awesome and friendly and attentive even though it was pretty busy on the patio. The waitress made good recommendations and just had great overall timing with everything. I'd say District is a solid South Austin brunch spot that I'd go to again. read more

Been meaning to come here for awhile and finally got to experience their south location for a late brunch yesterday. Their have a good size patio and since the weather is so perfect right now, we chose to sit outside so unsure what the inside is like. We ordered their boudin omelette and the fried egg sandwhich. The omelette is 4 eggs which you think would be a lot larger but it wasn't. My friend still enjoyed that with the smashed potatoes. I had the fried egg sandwhich which was definitely tasty but nothing to rave about. The fries were also super mediocre - hard and crunchy so not sure if they had been sitting for awhile or what but again not an item that I'd rave about either. I'll definitely be back for their happy hour as I've heard a lot about it, and combine that with dinner. Hopefully some more memorable items! read more

This was my first time at District as I trusted my best friend to pick out the brunch spot. Maria gave us great attention and it felt like we were immediately greeted as a friend instead of a patron. Service was good. The servers were very attentive in refilling water and replacing silverware. The food, however was subpar. The wagyu steaks were tough and over priced, the trout was seasoned well but was a bit dry, , and the bison burger had nothing going for it. The only saving grace for the dinner were the fries that came with the burger and the karaage, but we didn't come to have a nuggets and fries experience. Honestly the food was probably around 3* but at that price point, it was not worth it. read more

Last minute stop to and pleasantly surprised. We were still in time for the brunch menu. Beautiful patio and good ambiance. Meagan, our waitress was very nice too. Other staff was too. We ordered the rosemary bread, small but very yummo. I could have eaten it with just butter but the honey butter, smoked Gouda and pimento cheese spread was rich and delicious. We decided to share the bison burger, medium as we were meeting friends for an early dinner. They cut in half, which was nice. They have weird rules, like won't allow to use the dining area during happy hour, instead forcing to use the bar. Also, they have always told me they will substitute a small salad for fries, but each time so far they have charged the same price for a small salad - no discount, and they don't give the fries. I had a great first time experience at the Shoal Creek location with colleagues last Tuesday, so I brought my Aunt to the Slaughter Lane location to celebrate her birthday. We arrived just before 8 pm on a Monday, so they were not very busy. I ordered the Steak Frites night, which includes choice of salad, entree (three beef and one pork), and dessert. I specifically asked the waitress which beef option would most closely resemble the Texas Wagyu Steak on the regular menu, and she told me the 12oz Wagyu NY Strip. I told her I couldn't eat that much and instead decided to go with the 8oz Beef Tenderloin. When our entrees arrived, I remarked to the waitress that I didn't remember anything about the tenderloin having a bone. As I finished my salad, I grabbed a fry off the plate and realized they had served me the pork chop! I called another server over to confirm, and she retrieved our server who didn't explain whether it was her mistake or the kitchen's, but she took it back and said she would bring the fries back for me to nibble on. Then she came to tell me they ran out of the 8oz tenderloin and asked if it was okay for them to make the 6oz Texas Wagyu Steak...I said yes but asked for more ketchup for my fries. After waiting a long time for ketchup, I finally had to get up and ask the manager who was working the hostess stand if she could bring it to me. By the time the steak arrived, I wasn't really hungry for it anymore. I took a few bites. We asked the waitress to make our dessert to go, but instead she brought it on a plate. I asked for the bill and boxes. I was disappointed to see that instead of comping my meal, the restaurant charged me $37 (the 6oz Texas Wagyu Steak price ) instead of $50 for the Steak Frites menu with 8oz Beef Tenderloin. So I had a terrible experience and only got a $13 (26%) discount off my meal? read more

District Kitchen & Cocktails is true to its name and makes really great cocktails. This is the place to go if you are looking for happy hour in the Southwest Austin area. The last time we visited, we had a few drinks including the frozen margarita, apple spice old-fashioned, and some sort of lemon tea like cocktail. All amazing. We also ordered the lamb kebab and street tacos. It not only looked great, but also tasted great. I also love their brunch menu. I love the shakshuka and the chicken and waffles. This was my first time coming to the Circle C area. It's December so it's all lit up with white lights as you drive into the Escarpment Plaza which has plenty of parking for District Kitchen. I highly recommend making a reservation and the staff mentioned if we're were coming for happy hour, seating was not inside and only folks there for that would get that menu. Since it was 50 degrees outside we opted for indoors. Seating was tight. This was my only not great experience because either guests on each side of us might have well been in our conversation. Besides that and when the server comes they are croch in your face, it's very pleasant and I'd say the ambience is romantic with dimly lit atmosphere. My friend and I didn't not drink any cocktails so that something for me to do when I go back. The menu looked bomb. I had a hard time making a decision. I'm so glad I went with the scallops and butternut squash risotto. It was warm and comforting with rich buttery flavor. Scallops were cooked to perfection. I also saw a shrimp and grits and well as a rainbow trout (I love seafood) so it was tough but that just means I'm going back. I did not take pictures of the whipped feta but Jesus almighty just do it and order extra pita in advance. It's whipped feta but it's got olive oil, local honey, pistachio, mint, and pomegranates on top. It was SO good. I can't wait to come back and request a booth so me and my friends can feel a little more privacy. read more

My husband and I had two different experiences. Being a vegetarian, I ordered the falafels, which were a frozen mix, battered and fried, served chewy and flavorless - quite bad. My husband ordered the chicken karaage and the lamb kebabs, quite enjoying both. The old fashioned is a skip but the margarita was surprisingly good. The service was friendly and attentive - shout out to Sarah covering the outside tables yesterday. They have a large patio but the fans are only in the inside parameter, leaving us warm at the outer tables and struggling with flies - a bonding time with our table neighbors. District is a solid choice for brunch or dinner. My husband and I recently popped in for dinner and with no reservation, we were seated promptly. The only downside after this was that no one came by to take our order for about 7 minutes. We were debating whether to just leave or stay, but a waitress finally did notice us and ask if we had been helped yet. I am glad we did stay because after that, the service was excellent and food was better than I had remembered. Our waitress was also knowledgeable in the wine offerings and recommended the perfect red Cabernet with my husband's wagyu steak. The bolognese ravioli was slightly on the salty side, but being a fan of salty foods, I didn't mind. The oysters were delicious and fresh. Will definitely come back more often. We ended up here for dinner one night during our stay in Austin. Google gave the incorrect time that this place closes during the week. We went in on a night where they closed earlier than listed on Google. (Forget the day) The manager saw that this was incorrectly listed on Google and gave us a $10 off our next visit since they were about to close. We came the next day and definitely enjoyed our visit! I ordered the truffle prosciutto Naan and their butternut squash bisque. AMAZING. LOVED the bisque and was 100% WOWED by the truffle Naan. BRAVO to this spot on combination of dates, goat cheese, prosciutto and that honey glaze which added that extra subtle pop! I also enjoyed my old fashion. I like to try new places and since I work in South Austin, thought I'd explore a local restaurant for variety sake. I'm glad I did. Everyone was very friendly and efficient and the food is very good. I wouldn't order the lamb kabobs again, but I enjoyed the tacos and appetizer I ordered. It was a fresh, fast and friendly dining experience and started my weekend off well. Apparently there are multiple locations and now I'll have to visit the one closer to North Austin. read more

Wow! This place has really upped its game! New beautifully colored booths for a more refined and appealing ambiance and a new food and wine menu! Very good food selection and service! The food is much better than in the past many years we have been coming here. And they finally offer a couple of good cabs on the wine menu! Happy hour is good but only available on the patio or in the bar. They could do better on the wine for HH. Only one white and one red is available by the glass and they are not decent, in my opinion. They also do a 1/2 price bottle of the day's selection but it is always the same as what is available by the glass for HH when we are there. The patio is very nice. With the recent changes in the last several months, we feel fortunate to have this restaurant in our neighborhood! read more

I ordered the Pineapple mimosa pitcher which smelled more like pineapple than it tasting like pineapple. The pineapple is very subtle in taste. Next time I'll just stick with the OJ Mimosa. For my brunch dish I ordered the Fried egg sandwich and added the truffle fries. Both were very delicious! The Fried egg sandwich had prosciutto, which was yummy. I've always like District Kitchen. I love the location and the vibe. Their brunch is fab! Can't go wrong with anything on their brunch menu. Their service isn't the greatest, and there seems to always be a delay. I just had dinner for the first time there with my family. I'll start with the good and end with the not so good. My mom had the chicken milanese, and my husband had the vegan ravioli. Both were very good plates. Would definitely recommend. Our server was pleasant and fun to talk to. Now for the not so good. Service was a little slow, which seems to be consistent there. To their credit, we were approaching the dinner rush. I ordered the lemon shrimp bucatini. I do not recommend this dish at all. You will be disappointed. I'm pretty sure shrimp was likely the frozen kind and it was popcorn sized, which kills me because I learned they own Keepers, a seafood restaurant down the street. The flavor was also lacking. Very little lemon, and the cream sauce was flat. read more

You can get a selection of bites to suit vegetarians and carnivores for $6-$9; an assortment of specialty hand-crafted cocktails for $6-$8; $3 domestic beers; and a $5 HH wine (white - vinho verde, red - Garnacha blend). I love the street tacos and the shishito peppers. They also have a fantastic Sunday brunch complete with $5 mimosas ($13 for a carafe), chicken & waffles, and bacon beignets. The back beignets are little pillows of heaven that melt in your mouth. Buy them to share so you don't eat them all. The service is friendly and fast. They have an amazing outdoor patio that is perfect for small or large parties. read more

My Austin colleagues chose this restaurant for a team dinner, all 20 of us. We pre-ordered our entrees and side dishes, but it took forever...two hours from the time we sat down at the table. Hard to have pleasant conversation when you are starving and getting hangry. Admirably however our server got every order right. I don't know how he did it. And when my entree and side dish finally came, they were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. I still dream about the Grilled Salmon with garlic herb tahini sauce served alongside roasted butternut squash, kale, hazelnuts, dried cranberries and goat cheese brown butter vinaigrette. I'm still trying to recreate that sauce at home. I was so hungry that I didn't offer any of my coworkers a bite of my delicious side dish - roasted cauliflower with tahini, pomegranate seeds, feta and mint. Afterwards we discovered that the restaurant had two other huge groups who were seated at the same time as us so I forgive the kitchen. Good choice for a group dinner! read more

We had an enjoyable time here! We were seated immediately during happy hour. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. Family and pet friendly, some people brought their dogs to the patio. Their happy hour deals are pretty good. We LOVED the lamb kabobs and ended up ordering a second round of it as well as the chicken karaage. We didn't love the creme brûlée brownie as it was too dense and the ratio to the creme brûlée topping was not it.
