Mr. Mesero was my #6 stop on my quest to try the top 50 burgers in Texas. After seeing the menu, it was tough not to abandon my plan and order one of the Mexican dishes instead. I couldn't resist ordering some guacamole and a top-shelf Margarita with fresh lime juice, both very satisfying. But then I remembered I was there to try the highly acclaimed Rose Burger. The tables on the porch make for pleasant dining in good weather. At the bar across the way, I could hear a band of Cleveland Browns fans, ever optimistic, cheering on their star-crossed team. The sidewalk in front of the patio provided plenty of people-watching opportunities, with couples walking their dogs and young people heading to their trendy brunch spots. I sank into a reverie as I watched the world go by in front of Mr. Mesero's. Then the Rose Burger arrived. Impressively tall, draped in melted cheese and crowned with a charred top, she demanded my attention. A crispy bed of iceberg lettuce and a juicy slab of red tomato counterbalanced the juicy, perfectly cooked beef patties just below. Bite after bite, the Rose Burger delivered the delicious flavor of a classic American cookout. My mouth waters every time I look at the picture. Excellent service sealed the deal on my 5-star rating. Our friendly server was always there at the right time, and the food came out at just the right pace. We'll definitely be back. read more

Mr. Mesero is a Mexican restaurant in uptown that serves up high quality Mexican dishes in a very nice & inviting setting. It's a much better alternative to Chuy's/Mi Cocina when you have a craving for Mexican food. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Mr. Mesero has an upscale and inviting atmosphere. On my visit the doors were open to the patio, which gave it an open air feel, similar to resort hotels in Hawaii or Mexico. It's a busy place so if you don't want to wait get there before 5:30. It's a small restaurant though, and most tables are 4 tops. Parties of 5 are placed on a 4 top which makes it a bit cramped, as ours & another separate party experienced. The patio has umbrellas to offer shade, and on cool evenings it is hard to beat this vibe. 1/2 Star. Service - Excellent. Our server was outstanding, and she was great at refilling our freshly warmed tortilla chips, drinks, & made sure we were taken care of. She was great, fast, and was on point the whole time. 1 1/2 Stars. Food - Let's start with the Mico Steak. It's flat iron grilled & seasoned and then sliced for you. It is beautifully done and so tender and seasoned so well. I'm not sure what type of meat it was although it says strip on the menu, but I couldn't believe how great a non-open flamed/broiled steak could be. But if you judge an American restaurant on the quality of its bread & water, you judge a Mexican one on its chips & dip. The chips are served out with 4 dipping choices. I preferred the green sauce as I'm a cilantro fan, but you'll find the one you want. Finally my Uno combo had a great red enchilada but a tough/average carne asada taco. But after experiencing the steak, it would be hard to match that. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I would come back for the steak alone, although I'd like to try their other enchilada/taco options. Mr. Mesero, even with its tight spaces, may not be great for large groups, but it is a great place for great Mexican food. 1 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. The Taco Salad was amazing. It was already mixed together. They put the perfect amount of salad dressing in there. The chicken mole was amazing. The mole sauce was everything you could ever hope for and more. Not only was it rich but the spices were just perfect. Having a mexican background and also having my fair share of mole throughout the years, I can say with certainty that this is the absolute best mole I have ever had in my entire life. Doce Mesas is a historic restaurant location that has been reinvigorated by Mico Rodriquez, and the food quality and service is evident. My friend and I stopped in for a catch-up dinner, and we weren't disappointed. We decided to share the Pacifico Ceviche, which was an excellent choice, consisting of a tasty medley of Gulf Shrimp, lime, serrano and tomato. This starter was a perfect transition to the classic Pollo y Mole Enchiladas. The mole sauce was brimming with flavors of various dried chilis, nuts, cocoa and complemented with red rice and pinto beans. Both selections were top-notch, and made for an awesome meal. I said "three" and he began to state the rules about how he can't seat our part until everyone is here...well, we ask why are you being so tight with the seating when there were 5 tables on the patio available and NO-ONE WAS WAITING?! So I pleaded could we avoid all of the attention we were creating? However he stood his ground, so we just sat down anyway. Our party showed up and we sat ourselves...and waited for 30mins with no service. Well...I guess he showed us who is boss, so we left. We will never return to that spot. read more

I really enjoyed my birthday dinner here with a party of 10. They require everyone to be present in order to be seated so keep that in mind. I called the night before to make a reservation but no one was answering so I stopped by. A little inconvenient and I wasn't really sure why no one was answering but I live close. My party was (obviously) late but we were seated as soon as everyone arrived. I've been to Mesero before but it was my first time here. It can get a little noisy since it's so small but the food makes it worth it. Sitting outside is also a good option. I ordered the Brandon to drink and it was definitely strong. I felt the kick about halfway through my drink. I'm also a lightweight but I loved it. The chips and salsa was bomb! There are different dipping sauces and certain ones were amazing. I couldn't stop eating them and the waitress kept bringing more. We also ordered the queso which has spinach and artichoke in it and almost tasted like spinach artichoke dip. So delicious and creamy! For my entree, I went with the shrimp tacos (Camaron) and they were SO good. I also tasted a friends ceviche and it was great! I still feel oddly out of place in this new city. I mean, that is to be expected. You live 26 years in one place, grow older there, and assume that is where you will be buried. Then, one day you wake up to a new, strange exterior landscape. Few friends. Few acquaintances. An amazingly large amount of strangers. This is my friendly place. It's not the patrons. It's not even the staff. (Though the staff is amazing). It's the food. I believe, in my heart of hearts, i have never had more fresh avocados than what they use in their guacamole. The Mango/Serrano salsa makes me want to steal a recipe. The ingredients are fresh, and you can taste that. For brief shining moments, I feel a taste of longevity of residence. Drink a Mico, eat the Enchiladas Norteno, have the Tres Leches, and don't feel so alone in this big city. read more

Parking is a nightmare!!! But Good thing the food is great! I love the set up as soon as you sit. There's chips and 3 types of sauce. One is like a queso dip, guacamole salsa and regular salsa. I had the salmon and my husband had the Carne Asada! The main Reason we love this place though, is the Cinco Leches!!! That cake is so amazing!!!!! It's fluffy and moist. I don't even like tres leches but I certainly like theirs!! We didn't drink but I found out they are part of the Mi Cosina/ Taco Diner chain. They are considered more of the "high end" of the three. Sadly, I wasn't a huge fan of Mr. Mesero's. When we arrived (a Friday night) it was PACKED! No biggie, however, there was no clear idea on where the hostess stand was or where to check in for a table. Everyone was crowded in the doorway and bumping into each other. (This place is tiny) Once we finally found the hostess, she took our party's information (but never wrote it down) and said it would be about 30 minutes. We waited....and waited...and waited and then I started to notice that other parties were being seated ahead of us, that had arrived way after us. I asked the hostess if she'd forgotten about us and she was like "oh, uh, your table will be ready soon"...hmmmm..... So then we were finally seated; our server was lovely and very pleasant, thankfully. But the noise in this place was RIDICULOUS. I couldn't even hear the person right next to me. We had to holler our orders to the waitress and it was pretty annoying to try and have a conversation with my family while yelling over cheesy pop music and loud millennials. Our food arrived and it just wasn't that great; not worth the wait and enduring the loudness. My daughter hated her spinach salad, husband didn't like his hot dog (why did he even get this at a tex-mex place anyway? Smh), and I thought my "Tejanos Enchiladas" were actually pretty decent, although the cheese wasn't melted all the way. The guacamole was super bland, like literally just a chopped up avocado. Anyway, needless to say, we wouldn't venture back to this place. My daughter (15), a goofball, insisted on having her own review, so here it is: They chips is nasty. They guacamole is bland. They salad dressing is disgusting. It's very extra super loud. It's small. I'm sitting in a corner. They hostess lady went MIA. She sat all the other folks before us. Good: The patio space is great. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. Bad: The food is dreadful. I mean, it is some of the worst Mexican food I have EVER had. The food would be bad for a Tex-Mex joint in NY, but is absolutely unacceptable for Dallas, TX. The two salsas were absolutely flavorless. The guacamole was SWEET--like they add sugar to it. As for the chicken salad? Imagine a chicken salad, absolutely drenched in dressing that is a concoction of PF Chang peanut sauce, more sugar, honey, and a hint of ginger. The salad was cloyingly sweet, and it did not sit well. It's unfortunate that the food is so bad, because the patio and location really is nice. And I'm sure they will still get business because of that fact. But this was some of the worst Mexican food we have ever had, and I highly recommend you skip the visit here. Honestly the place is so cute but our waiter was ridiculous. We went the first 27 minutes sitting at our table without our waiter coming to check on us. I had to self serve myself water. He was strangely high diving us and being weirdly touchy when he finally came to our table. Our friend asked him about her drink because there was no tequila in it. He promised her free tequila and never brought it. She followed up and 5 mins later he shoves a shot glass of tequila in her face and was like "is this good enough for you" and dumped it into a drink that wasn't even the girls drink that requested it. Was in the area and drove by this place that looked busy around 6 pm on a Saturday. Was able to get seating outside immediately. The restaurant is cute and has both indoor and outdoor spaces. Started with guacamole, which was awesome! They provided gluten-free chips and I also asked for carrot sticks, which they brought out. We ordered their classic sangria, which was good as well.
