Everything we have ordered here has been excellent. The Chicken Parm is always delicious, with the exception of the one occasion when it was raw on the thick side. (Temperature readings should always be done on the thicker areas.) Salads are well executed and the soups (with the exception of the inauthentic onion soup) are generally outstanding. The service is always lackluster and slow, which is the reason I have given the place only 4 stars. However, since this is the primary complaint submitted for this restaurant, perhaps the kitchen is at fault. read more

Simply the best Chicken Fettuccine on the Planet! Everything on the menus is superb! However, no matter what you order from the menu for dinner, be sure to leave room for the delectable dessert tray, delicious! Service is 5 star too! The beautiful view of the John Wayne Marina is lovely. Want to take a romantic stroll after dinner? A nice little path out to the waters edge with a little bench awaits you. Be sure and make reservations as they are a small restaurant and fill up fast. Four star prices, two star experience. My wife and I moved here last summer and were told that the Dockside was "the" place to go around the area for a good dining experience and the best burger around, albeit $25. Having a banzai 2 year old, we tried making a reservation with him and within 5 minutes of being there, we realized it wouldn't work, so we left. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and we got a date night, so we called again and made reservations. We arrived and were seated, drink orders taken and I began to look around and take in this place that tauts itself as "Posh and reservation only" and quickly noted some very disappointing features cosmetically. For starters, the layout was too open- there was no feel to the place. Next, when I think high end, I don't consider the plastic "Open/Closed" slide sign, nor the hand printed sign explaining why the chef was closing the grill for the superbowl- the kicker was that none of the employees dressed in uniforms of any kind, much less a similar fashion. Our server was pleasant, too much so. As in, "I'm working for tips" nice. It was obvious he was a nice guy, but was way over the top. I asked about the burger, as they are a vice of mine and he said they were seasonal... at a grill. OK, fine. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the seafood medley. Being from Louisiana, I was curious about how well the food would be. Service while we waited was good and we were brought bread- 4 paltry pieces of what in my opinion was awful. The food arrived and it was really good. We were impressed (and for the price, you better be). After the meal, my wife desired desert and we figured we'd split a tiramisu. About 1 minute after we ordered it, an obviously pre-made piece was brought out. Now, don't get me wrong, I didn't expect it to get made while we waited, but for as expensive as everything is here, I had hoped for a piece that hadn't tasted like it had been in a freezer for over a week and was at least thawed out properly. Overall, the food is great, but not worth the cost and the poor feeling environment sold us on the fact that this will be a one time affair. In closing I'll say that it's sad how this night out fared for us, as this place has a lot of potential to be what it aspires to be; however for us, it failed horribly. read more

We sat for 20-30 minutes without any acknowledgement by the waitress...not even an I'll be with you soon. For $100 minimum meal for two, We expect more. We walked out. read more

We were served by an extremely unhappy server who totally ignored my requests for water. The third time I asked she made me wait an Additional five minutes making it thirty minutes to get water. It took over an hour for our lunch meal of 2 sandwiches and a salad to be brought to us. One sandwich was to be on gluten free bread, of which it was not. Before the meal was eaten our 5 year old was complaining of a stomachache. Fries with gluten were also brought on the gluten free plate, and the side order of bacon was forgotten. This restaurant is amazing! My husband and I have been here twice when stay in Sequim and both times it was outstanding! Lance took care of us over a year ago and remembered us last night. The food is well-prepared, portions are generous, and all the suggestions were great. We often go to five-star restaurants in Seattle that cannot compare. Yes, it's pricey, but believe me they are more for far less quality. Last night we had a crab and mushroom dip that was to die for. The entrees were equally tasty-fresh pasta and clams and a prawn and beef dish. Go there and tell Lance to help you pick your food and wine! You won't be sorry! read more

Upscale? No! They deserve credit for trying. The food is okay. But it is WAY over priced. Examples: $39 for steak, and $25 for ravioli with a couple of shrimp and scallops, all drowning in sauce. Lance was our waiter, and he was quick to tell us his dad was the chef. He was also friendly and very professional. We asked for hot apple cider, and it seemed more like hot apple juice. If it really was apple cider, I apologize for saying otherwise. In any case, we had to ask Lance to bring us cinnamon. All through dinner our water glasses ached for refill, and at one point I saw Lance glance at our empty glasses with pitcher in hand, but he instead went to fill glasses of new customers that had just come in. Afterward he seemed to forget our glasses were still empty. It is heart-warming to see father and son working hard together to make a successful restaurant. But Lance abandoned us halfway through dinner, turning us over to his assistant. He only came back to give us our bill. The place is clean but not upscale, and the locale is far from opulent. Tip: Don't sit next to the windows. The windows are floor to ceiling, and there is a boardwalk outside the windows where at least ten people walking their dogs paused or stopped to stare at us to see what we were eating. We felt like we were on display. We won't be back. read more

The food at this place is not the greatest. I have had frozen fish better then this. In fact I think it was frozen and greasy fries. The only thing good is the view and I don't mean the water. We went to dinner at Dockside Grill, at the Sequim marina. Our B&B host said it was the best restaurant in the area. I got dungeness crab fritters, since they are from the area, and they were really good! The hubby got a 3 course $30 meal (such a deal, since my appetizer was around $17 or so). His entree was scallop ceviche with blood orange EVOO. We both thought the orange taste way overwhelmed the delicacy of the scallops, though the scallops were extremely fresh. Then he had a goat cheese beet green salad, which was really good, but I forgot to take a photo of that. Then, he got a salmon with rice which was cooked well and delicious. Nothing particularly blew us away, but we enjoyed the experience. The location at the marina was great too, as we stared out into the water, and watched boats come in. We saw a dad teach his daughter how to... kill crabs? He did it like a champ too, whipped out his knife, stabbed the crab, chopped it into half, threw the bad part back into the water, and then she tried to follow suit, though she looked nowhere as pro as he did. read more

My husband and I were staying in Sequim for a few days and found out about Dockside Grill in Sunset Magazine. We had an amazing lunch here - one of those nice leisurely lunches over nearly two hours and we were really amazed with the quality of the food. Having lived in NYC and now living in SF, I would consider us to be pretty particular with the food we eat. We started with a dozen oysters that were served with three kinds of sauces (the champagne mignonette was my favorite). I had the crab cake sandwich and he had the french dip. Both were delicious. We rounded out the meal with wine, and mud pie and coffee for dessert. Everything was superb and it's a comfortable restaurant with great service and a terrific view. This restaurant truly deserves 5 stars! Wow what a great find in the middle of nowhere and so accommodating. I had just arrived in town to see my grandkids and wanted to take them all to somewhere nice for dinner in the Port Angeles area. I had driven by the sign on my way into town and decided to see if we could get seated although last minute. The waiter was so nice. We arrived right before they opened and he welcomed us. Even though I had small kids a 9 year old, 3 and 2 year old he wasn't prejudice at all, gave us a great table and wonderful service. We all shared the calamari appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. Very light, fried to perfection and the sauce was really tasty. My 9 year old grandson even told the waiter to tell the chef how good it was! We also had the seafood bisque soup, I have traveled all over the world and this was the best so far that I have experienced. Very nice base and lots of seafood chunks. Tasty... We also ordered the kids pasta with marinara and the mac and cheese and chicken tenders for the kids. I have never seen them devour food like they did that night, all really enjoying their meals. My daughter in law and I each had the salmon salad which was amazing. Like I said, if you are looking for a really nice meal with a great view and great service, you can't go wrong with Dockside Grill. We will be back every time we have a chance when we are in town. The stuffed mushrooms were filled with crabmeat so $18 was justified. I had the oyster po' boy and I certainly was. After a few bites without tasting any oyster, I decided to dissect my sandwich. The fried oysters were mostly salty cornmeal batter with about the tiniest oysters that can be sold legally. I believe I got four of them in my six inch sandwich. I had waffle cut sweet potatoes which were good but they came with some bland sweet dipping sauce whose intended purpose I was unable to ascertain. To add insult to injury, when the waitress asked if I wanted a soup or salad, I went with the clam chowder. Upon receiving the check, I found that the soup was not part of the meal so I was charged $6. Worse yet, we were the first ones there, and with two other servers, it still took an hour to finish lunch. This is not a big restaurant. I had to wave down a different server to get the bill. This restaurant joins my long list of overpriced, oversold, and forgettable Sequim restaurants. read more

What a wonderful little restaurant. Charming location, water views, great ambiance and most important wonderful food. The staff is great, very helpful, knowledgeable about the food offered and delicious food. We love to bring visiting friends to the Dockside. The food is consistently excellent and good size portions. Always difficult to make a decision so many good offerings. And do save room for dessert - to die for! The food here was amazing! Best Clam Chowder we have had in Washington. Coconut shrimp was delicious and crispy. Crab melt was very good. Fried halibut was nice and crispy. All the from scratch sauces were amazing. This place seems under rated. It was soo good. All of the items we selected were cooked perfectly. Staff was very nice and answered all the questions we had. Wow! I am so impressed with this place. This was a dining experience of my lifetime. Every thing went so perfect. My wife; I were on a second honeymoon and we honeymooned in Sequim the first time around. We went to John Wayne Marina as we did 15 years ago. Then there was the Marina Cafe or something. It was a very basic cafe; paperlpates and styrofoam cups. What a great surprise to find this gem. The service was very friendly and efficient. Danielle and Melody floated through the diningroom like Choreographed dancers. Our starter was crab stuffed mushrooms, 8 larger than expected morsels, we packed four up in a box for a later lunch. We split the seafood salad, good thing we did because we barely could finish, there was so much and delicious with two homemade salad dressings. We were offered soup but we were stuffed; they said it be shame not to take a soup home and brought three samples on that nights menu. We chose that seafood bisque, my mouth was very happy Chef/Owner Steve and wife Ruth were very pleasent and attentive to the flow of business. We shared a wonderful midrange Chardonney served at the perfect temp. Truly a night I will always remember. read more

My bouillabaisse was excellent - the ample portion of shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops, crab & salmon was perfectly cooked and extremely fresh in a savory broth. The other dish we tried was the special of white King salmon in butter sauce with a caprese salad, also delicious. Service was laid back, but the meal was definitely worth the wait. Came to the marina for a wedding but stayed for the Dockside Grill. Service was beyond exceptional and the food not too far behind. Wow!! What a superb gem! I ordered the Cioppino and my husband ordered the oyster stew. We we both amazed!!! We consider ourselves foodies as we frequent great restaurants and are very picky when it comes to fresh ingredients. These dishes were heavenly! We were so pleased we asked to talk to the chef. We asked a gal who happen to be his wife and co-owner if we could compliment the chef. She was delightful! She showed to the back and introduced us to her husband and then proceeded to introduce us to their "fish guy" who was fileting fresh halibut caught that morning! So awesome! We also ordered the Caesar salad. It was perfect! Loved the dressing and the fresh parmigiana with a parmigiana crisp on the side. Excellent! It's a "must stop" on any drive through Sequim Washington! The view of the lake is breathtaking too! There's a little park with a grassy mound that you can look over at the gorgeous view as well as the charming harbor of local boats. I give this place 5 stars hands down!!! read more

What a great find in Sequim! We were rounding out our daytrip from Seattle and thanks to our GPS, we found this wonderful gem. My husband's crab cakes were loaded with crab meat and my halibut with lump crab in a butter sauce was heavenly. I can't recommend this place enough! It is fine dining, in a beautiful setting, at its best! To top that off, I left my new sunglasses (b-day present) and didn't realize until we were almost home. I called the restaurant and the owner's wife sent me my glasses (well-packaged) within a day of my phone call. All in all, it was the complete dining package - AMAZING food, spectacular scenery and top notch customer service. Thank you Dockside Grill! read more

Dockside Grill is a place to seek out when visiting Sequim. We had a very pleasant experience and opted for the off the menu special, fried Rockfish. Who'd have thought this dish was going to be what we got. It was fantastic. Only downside is the dish was so plentiful, we could have shared an entree rather than each getting one.
