Had a dinner date here a few weeks ago. In short.... The food was decent but nothing spectacular, certainly not for the price. We ordered the squid strips, prawn/crab cakes and chicken peanut satay. The satay was epically delicious! I was impressed. For the price vs quantity, it was a good experience. I was not happy with the 'cakes, though. They were small, the deep fried coating was thick and, overall, far too salty!! I really don't understand why restaurants over-salt these 'cakes. The fresh seafood is salty enough AND I'm ordering them to taste the natural flavor of the meat and sea. Salt is NOT a flavor additive, it's a SENSATION. Salt only becomes a flavor when you use far too much! Yuck. I also prefer a dish to dip items into vs fancy drizzle that gets lost on the plate after much swirling around. Dunk and devour. That's how I roll. The squid strips were tasty but I got tired of them quick, which isn't say much for them since, again, the quantity is not ample. All in all, it's a great patio setting and was a good date night, sharing plates was appropriate and "affordable" considering we weren't too hungry and had just come from a networking event where we nibbled on canapes. I came here with a big group mostly family for an occasion and have to say was a bit disappointed. The location is great with floor to ceiling windows giving you one of the best views of False Creek and the surrounding neighbourhood. The decor is very ordinary so nothing to drag about. It looks like the place has been recently renovated. The service was great, our server was very polite yet friendly and funny. Upon arrival we were seated in a large round table in the middle of the restaurant with the best view. We started off with a bottle of their featured winery Crush Pad from Okanagan which was tangy and sweet and a great complement to my main dish. I shared the mussels and chicken satay for an appetizer and was a bit let down by the mussels sauce as it was just flavourless. The chicken satay was better but nothing to write home to mom about! For my main I ordered the duck, which again was just ordinary and when the plated were served most of our meals were lukewarm. For desserts we shared tiramisu and creme brulee, both yummy but then again just ordinary. Came here last Saturday for a good friend's birthday dinner. There were 9 of us, and we all know how hard good service can come by for larger groups. I had trouble deciding between two wines, and our server was able to make an educated recommendation, and provide a sample of each for me. I ordered the Caesar salad, and the mussels, which were served in a tarragon cream sauce that evening. Both were excellent, and exceeded my expectations. I was really impressed (and that's hard, since I'm very picky when it comes to higher end dining!) The server was attentive and quick; she even asked about our (hidden) cake discreetly, and recommended supplying sparklers instead of the candles we brought. When cake was served up, she had each slice served with an amazing raspberry coulis. All in all, excellent food, excellent service, and the location/view was amazing. It was a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon. That morning, we had disembarked from our cruise ship from our Alaskan cruise. After some sightseeing, we ended up at Granville Island looking for a bite to eat. We got seated on the patio at our request. The brunch service was over, so we ordered small plates. This included a pizza, sweet potato fries, crab cakes, and spring rolls. All were very good. We also enjoyed their beers which were good. The view was spectacular (as was the weather which I won't credit the restaurant with, but it helped). Pricy, but I'm a fan. read more

What a fabulous night at my niece's wedding reception at The Dockside. The food was delicious and the staff were extremely attentive and efficient. We were a bit of a rambunctious crowd and for a lot of the guests it was our first large outing since March 2020. More like 2.5 stars. OK, so first of all, we made a reservation months ahead of time on OpenTable for a weekday afternoon. I requested outdoor seating, weather permitting. When we arrived, we asked to sit outside since it was a gorgeous day. No tables were available outside, which was a huge bummer. So, the lesson here is that they apparently ignore the comments section of OT reservations. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous, so it wasn't like we suffered a hardship, but it was beautiful outside. Minus one star. Our server was fine -- not as attentive as I'd expect at a nicer restaurant. Minus one star. The food, for the price paid, was slightly below-average. (Side note: Canadians apparently love putting mayo on burgers. I learned that the hard way at Dockside.) We left feeling very underwhelmed. read more

I took advantage of the 2 for 1 entree promotion during the BC Hydro Candlelight Conservation event to try this swanky place. I read reviews ahead of times (thank you Yelp!) and expectations are lowwww. Past reviews seem to (consistently) drone in the awesome atmosphere but mediocre food. Unfortunately for us, t'was a cold late October night, so of course the patio is no can do. But they did have a pretty epic looking wall of flames just outside. We scored a corner table by the windows! Yeah the view is very nice with Yaletown lights, water, and Cambie Bridge off to the distance. With the dimmed lights and flickering of the electric candle, the atmosphere couldn't be better! Well, maybe not the electric candle, but no biggie. :) I ordered the Italian Sausage Linguini ($19), boyfriend had the Manila Clam Carbonara ($20), and we shared the Legendary Chili Squid ($11) to start. The chili squid was the highlight of the meal - the batter was light and crunchy, nicely seasoned, and the "toppings" had so much flavour with all the different herbs. It certainly made us hungry for the main course. However, both pastas were not as impressive as our appy. Mine was too salty (sausage's fault), but still managed to be bland. There was no other flavour, except salt. I had to pile on a lot of Tobasco. Boyfriend's was better. I liked the bit of sweetness from the peas. Though a creamy sauce, it wasn't heavy at all. But, the clams were small (though there were a LOT of clams) and tasted rather like wax. Took a quick gander at their drinks menu - their cocktails are at the $8 range and martinis over $10. Fairly expensive. Service was great. Our server was prompt, friendly, and never intruded on conversations. Our water glasses never went dry the entire evening. One thing though, I was surprised at how loud it was in the restaurant and it was probably half full. It was loud enough that I had to raise my voice slightly to talk. All in all, I would definitely come back on a nice summer day to experience this legendary patio. Their lunch menu looks decent. People seem pretty split on whether they enjoy Dockside or not. Granted, I've only been once but its first impression was a great one! Known for its patio with water views, that wasn't an option as I was there yesterday to have brunch. Patio + December = not happening. Despite being indoors, the floor to ceiling windows provided expansive views of False Creek. The dining room is certainly upscale and Dockside provides the kind of brunch for people that actually want brunch rather than simply a place to whittle away their hangover from the previous night. My two friends and I ordered the traditional eggs Benny, and omelet and the French toast respectively. None of us were disappointed in our delicious dishes and the best part was the amazing coffee. Service was professional and attentive and we were never left waiting for our food or coffee refills. Our brunch dishes were each in the $12-15, but based on quality and quantity, I didn't find it overpriced at all. Quite reasonable for the entire meal. I'd certainly go back and recommend that you give Dockside a try and see for yourself. read more

We recently dined at Dockside for a business dinner and were treated superbly. Not only was I able to get a reservation, but they accepted a reservation for the patio and we had a gorgeous view! Parking is free for up to 3 hours, so that is definitely a bonus when looking to dine in and around downtown Vancouver. Chef Mark went out of his way to serve us amazing charcuterie to start, lovely entrees including Tuna Nicoise, Wild Sockeye Salmon, and I had the Halibut. All was very tasty and the portions were a very good size. We loved the drinks that we ordered: Sparkling Blitz to start (perfect summer patio drink), followed by a bottle of Prosecco with dinner. For dessert we chose the Cheese plate that had a fantastic assortment of cheeses, nuts, and fruits, and we were treated to a tasty bite of frozen cheesecake to finish off our night. This review is for their brunch. I would definitely recommend to go on a sunny day for those who appreciate a nice view. There are two-person tables all along the side of the restaurant, beside the water. There are large glass windows so it is really a beautiful view. The service was alright but I expected better from this kind of restaurant. After we had been seated, the server asked us if we were ready to order our drinks. We asked for a few minutes longer and he ended up not coming back for twenty minutes. This wouldn't have bothered me except he was literally helping the three tables directly beside us. My boyfriend and I tried to get his attention several times but it seemed as though we were invisible; he didn't glance our way at all. I eventually had to track him down so that we could place our order which was a first for me. He did apologize and the service after that was good so our overall experience was still positive. As for the food, everything was very good. We ordered the salmon chowder, the eggs benny and the Granville Island breakfast. The soup had a great flavour and was filled with plenty of ingredients, but a little bit on the smaller side portion wise. The eggs benny was solid but my only complaint would be that the English muffin was not toasted enough. Therefore it ended up being kind of soggy. The lemon chilli fried potatoes were delicious as well, although quite greasy. I also tried the Granville Island breakfast - the maple smoked bacon was particularly delicious so I thought it was worth the extra charge getting both bacon and sausage. Overall, at $20 an entree and $11 for a chowder I found the price to be quite reasonable for what you get. This place is family friendly, but at the same time a great place for a date or even to bring your mom for a treat. Just make sure you request a table by the window. read more

Our family has been celebrating special events at this restaurant for over 15 years. In June we started organizing a table for a party of 30 at the end of July. We went to the website to contact the person in charge of events and never got a reply. Turns out that person doesn't even work there any more. I guess nobody could be bothered to update the website. After going down in person to book the table, we were handed the business card of the person in charge, who needed several emails to get back to us. We finally phoned in the reservation, and were told there would only be one bill that included a gratuity, and it was up to our guests to sort out their bills. Awkward and unnecessary. The food was really mediocre. Think twice before booking an event here. We give this review one star because our server was outstanding. Our family will be looking for a new venue for special occasions. read more

I came with a friend from out of town to show off our beautiful city and fabulous restaurants and chose to have dinner at the Dockside. I am so embarrassed by the experience your restaurant gave us. We were told we would be seated on a couch with no heater, fair enough but I was confused as to how many empty tables were available. I asked the hostess again as to why we could not seat at a proper table as they were empty, I was told held for reservations. Our entire 2 hours we sat uncomfortably hunched over out food as tables with heaters sat empty. I mentioned this to our waiter Todd, who was wonderful but didn't know why we were sat hidden on the side as the 3 tables in front of us on the deck sat empty. My friend thought your restaurant must discriminate and I can't argue. We left your place feeling like second class citizens and yes those tables stayed empty all night. How did we slip through the cracks and why? I told this story over brunch and all agreed I should let you know as well as trip advisor and Instagram etc. The experience of seating at your restaurant was horrible and very humiliating to be treated so poorly and hidden in a corner in a empty section, memorable but in a very bad way. Please be mindful of your hostess and how they discriminate your customers. This is not a good memory my friend will take away back to Sydney and I will definitely not be back to yours as there are many places on Granville island I could choose. read more

I had a coupon from the recent Wedding Fair to come here so the Boy and I decided to come here for dinner. Even though we didn't make reservations we still got a great little table right by the windows where we could see the snow coming down over False Creek. Nice romantic setting with the dimmed lights and not too much noise from other tables. We ordered the baked oysters to start: they're kind of like oyster motoyaki but with spinach and smoked salmon cooked into it too. Very tasty! For entrees we had the duck breast (him) and the prime rib (me). The duck was quite flavourful and the prime rib was juicy. It comes in 3 sizes, 8, 10, or 12 oz. I had the 8 oz. and it came with enough side veggies that I was stuffed afterwards. However, we still made enough room to split the blood orange and vanilla creme brulee, which was delicious (although the caramelized sugar layer was a little on the thick side and hard to crack into pieces). Service was good: attentive but not overpowering. Overall dinner was very good. My only quibble would be that they make you pay for bread...usually I would expect that most fancier restaurant would just give you bread. I would be too full to eat it anyway since the portions were pretty big, but it's just a small detail. A nice place to go on a date! read more

I went to the dockside with some coworkers after a dragon boat practice for some beers to drink up all the calories we burned out of the water. The Dockside was not our first choice as it's a pretty classy joint and we were all in exercise wear but the other bars in the area were full due to the hockey game. We ordered up our first round of drinks and appy's a little disappointed that only 3 of the 6 brews they offer were available due to an overhaul of their brewery. I had the vegetable spring rolls which were amazing, so crispy and crunchy and the dipping sauce was fabulous. Others ordered the chicken wings and sliders all which looked really good even to my vegetarian eyes! They also have a pretty fabulous check in offer, if you spend $20 you get a 6 beer sampler for FREE. About 5 people at our table checked in so there was MUCH free beer to be had, mostly by me since everyone else was driving! All the wait staff were super friendly and didn't give us a second look because of our attire which clearly did not suit the ambiance of the restaurant! While staying at the Granville Island Hotel, a convenient breakfast option was to scoot down to the Dockside Restaurant, on the main level. Our hostess led us to our table from the podium, where a long aquarium full of tropical fish extended along the bar. I guess there may have been some miscommunication between the hostess and the server because we waited long times for a server to show up. Oh well, that happens, but I was with my mother and she needed her coffee... I understand as Dockside is a restaurant in a hotel and they have a certain level of formality they strive for, though I felt the service as a tad bit awkward because of this. It felt as though they were trying too hard in their attempts to be formal. Besides, I believe that formal/fancy and breakfast are not by any means synonymous, but that's just me. We both ordered the full breakfasts, which arrived pretty quickly once we were acknowledged. The eggs were cooked perfectly to our preferences, so all was well! We popped in here today for a bite to eat and a few appetizers. We found that the"greeter", Erin to be cold and impersonal, members of the staff were swearing and raising their voices at each other in front of customers but our server Nathan was great for the main part. We did spend 10 minutes looking for him so that we could pay our bill. The food, beer and house wine was great. We don't go out for appetizers just for the food though. Dockside Seafood Restauraunt located in Granville Island, Vancouver. It was a sunny day despite the sub-zero frosty temperature. We wanted to stroll along Granville Island for a date day. We love to check out the shops, drink coffee and have brunch. The view at Dockside was beautiful and service was prompt. Dockside Butter Lettuce Cobb $17: grilled chicken breast, crisp bacon, born 3 egg, baby heirloom tomato, fresh avocado, blue cheese. The Dockside Burger $17: hand formed certified angus chuck, onion herb kaiser, smoked bacon, aged white cheddar, house cut fries. This was a bit of a let down. The bun was bone chilling cold. The second attempt at fixing this also failed. They simply slapped the burger and the fried egg together in the oven. The result: over-cooked egg and beef patty. I must say I was quite disappointing. Our server was helpful. She took care of the burger from our bill. Thank goodness. I would have been quite furious otherwise. read more

The interior is nice, but a bit generic, although you can't beat the view over False Creek. Service was good, and the food was well-balanced and tasty, but overpriced. I had the Salmon Penne with Tomato Vodka sauce, which was a nice pairing, and it had plenty of salmon and capers. Tasty. My dining partner had Queen Charlotte Halibut and chips, and said the fish was crispy and flaky. The fries came in a fake newspaper cone in a metal holder, which was cute but kind of silly - if you want good fish and chips in a paper cone don't go here, go to a real fish and chip place like Pajo's! In all we had a nice experience, but it was nothing to shout about, and we will probably go somewhere a bit less corporate-y and generic-feeling next time - after all, Granville Island is all about the eclectic, not the polished-but-bland! read more

It's been a long while since I've been to dockside. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food and service. And the price of wine was better than any other comparable restaurant. Between my party of 5, we tried the sable fish which was amazing and tender, the lingcod, the rack of lamb, the pappardelle and then zucchini "unpasta". Everything was fantastic. Try the chilli calamari - the sauce on it was fantastic. The soups were butternut squash bisque and smoked salmon chowder - again two big hits. I mentioned that wine was good? The selection was great and the mark up was minimal. A bottle of wine was marked up only about $20 from the winery price, which for a restaurant is unheard of. Just want to let people out there know,... Dockside Restaurant is OceanWise and committed to sustainable seafood. If you goto Capers, Choices, Urban Fare, Greens Market and Meinhardt, you will notice you must pay a little more for (sustainable) quality as their menu is not "made in china". That being said, my husband and I hosted our rehearsal dinner there in August of 2008. We had family come in from Ontario as well as the States and ALL were very happy with the entire evening. I Went there for dine out Vancouver and our table of four was extremely disappointed. The service was alright, nothing to complaint about. But for $90 for two people it was simply terrible value for our money. The appetizers were really really small which was fine, but the so called main,a pork belly poutine was laughable, I'm all for sensible portion size but two pieces of bite sized meat and a couple of tiny potatoes is not an entree. We were left wondering, where can we go for dinner after this? All the plates together weren't even a full course, for that kind of money I want to at lest leave with a full stomach. The restaurant offers two New Year Eve packages: Dinner Package ($139.95 per person) followed by the dancing party and the party only ($34.95 per person). We decided to celebrate New Year 2014 by joining the party at this restaurant and bought $34.95 tickets. When we arrived we found out that we were not allowed to sit at the tables, even though there were lots of sitting available. Can you imagine being on your feet for few hours while wearing high heels? This was a torture! We felt being humiliated by the restaurant personnel. Went there twice and I was disappointed BOTH times. First time it was for brunch with 4 family members. The waiter brought 3 of us coffee and totally forgot about my mom's tea. After about 20 mins of waiting for him to come and acknowledge us he said, "Oh shit. Sorry I forgot." VERY unprofessional. Then we waited another 45 mins for our food. When we asked for the bill, we waited AGAIN for another 15 mins for him. It was absolute BS. We spent over an hour and a half JUST WAITING. The only reason I decided to give them a second chance was because the food was decent. My second experience was even worse. I took my friend there for lunch. We sat and stared at the menu for 15 mins. Not one person came up to us. No acknowledgment. Not even to give us water. 15 mins!!!! And I timed it because of my first experience. We put down the menus and walked away. This place has a great view. That's the only positive thing I can say about it. But the view is not worth starving and waiting around for crappy unprofessional service. read more

We attended Saturday Jan 2 2023 for Dineout, quite a disappointing experience, probably one of the worst we have ever had. There was seven of us, 5 adults and two small children, one of the children (10 year old) wanted the main course off the Dineout menu and was instantly told no we can't do that, really! pretty poor! So one of us had to order a main course of the main menu so that she could have her desired dish, bad start to the night. The appetizers were good and came without a hitch but then the main course came, one of the Cornish game hens bled all over the plate and was raw inside, my wife sent it back and was told they would cook it a little longer to which my wife told our server she did not want that dish back as there was blood all over the food, the server responded of course. I was the one that ordered off the main menu, I ordered the Paella, the seafood was all cold in it, my wife told me to say something by I couldn't be bothered, very disappointing! We all finished eating by the time my wife received her dish. Then the dessert, we all received our dishes except one person, we all finished and she was still waiting for here, finally we had to flag down our server to ask for the missing desert, eventually she got the desert but again after we were all done. Do you not notice that one person doesn't have their food when you bring the food to the table? Very poor service. Not once did the manager who kept looking over come over to check on us or offer any sort of apology. But fortunately for them nothing was left off the bill, I guess they at least got the bill right. It is not about the money but there should have been some sort of compensation or apology but there was nothing, needless to say I do not believe we will be returning here and looking at reviews it seems as we are not the only ones experiencing the same thing. The location is beautiful but it you want to charge class A prices make sure the service and food are worthy. We all work hard for our money and to spend hunderds of dollars on a night out and leave wishing we hadn't and that we wasted our money if very disappointing. read more

Our flight landed a bit late so we got there at 8:55 just to be told over the phone by Maddy that our table got cancelled as it was "last call". You would think they would be a little more sympathetic because of our situation but we were pretty much left stranded and had to find a last minute reservation at a Cactus Club that were accommodating and understanding enough to take us at a table. I work near Granville Is and Dockside is a regular habit. Good food for the reasonable price, but the real deal here is the stunning location. Inside, nearly all tables have a beautiful view of False Creek. The patio is my favourite in the city. Pizza is good, salmon good, salad nicoise great. The beer is brewed on site, and each of them are worth a try. (They used to have one called Up Your Hiney Pilsner, but alas it is gone. Pilsner is not my favourite, but getting to say the name made it worth ordering. The hefeweisin and pale ale are both very good.) read more

We had our wedding here this summer, and it was absolutely perfect! After looking at a huge number of venues in and around Vancouver, Dockside was by far the best value for money, and the wedding coordinator Rachelle was so friendly and accommodating. We had several meetings to make sure that everything was exactly how we wanted it to be, and Rachelle was always on the ball, friendly, and made us extremely confident. Our tasting was incredible - we expected mini versions of the various dishes, and were amazed to get full portions! We also wanted to switch things around, tasting four appetizers and no desserts (a normal tasting is two appies, two mains, and two desserts) and it wasn't a problem at all. We were also able to taste the wines that we wanted, and they had us taste alone (not with Rachelle present) so that we wouldn't feel the need to be polite and could discuss things completely freely, which was so helpful. They were happy to make substitutions and move things around to fit us, including little things like taking a painting off the wall (we didn't like it and wanted to put up a photo of us), shifting around their usual seating arrangements, etc etc. I have a food allergy, and they were SO careful to make sure that there were no issues. On the day itself, everything went off without a single issue. The room was stunning, the electronics system was ready to go (we used an iPad and playlist we had made, rather than a DJ, and they had everything we needed, including a microphone for the emcee), all the tables were precisely where they were meant to be, it all looked perfect. The food was so delicious - people are STILL commenting on it (it's been nearly five months, yet friends still bring it up!). The buffet and cake cutting/coffee service was amazing. The staff themselves were the best part - perfectly attentive without being obtrusive at all. They even assigned a specific server to me (as the bride!) to make sure that my drink was always filled, that I had everything I needed - she was amazing, and we ended up taking a photo with her because she was just so sweet. Rachelle also suggested a contact person - someone that the staff would go to if there were questions/issues/the wine was running out/whatever so that the bride and groom didn't have to be bothered. This way, they made some decisions on the fly and I didn't have to think about a single thing other than having fun. At the end of the night we went on to the Backstage Lounge (as unfortunately, the Dockside Lounge had to close a little early) and they even packed up all our centerpieces and things and sent them up to our room along with the wedding gifts, so we didn't have to worry about that at all. My previous experience at this restaurant was great and so I'm extremely disappointed at how terrible it was this time around. Our server was told that we were in a tight schedule for lunch as we had to be back on the bus within the hour. The restaurant was not busy so we were not expecting it to be an issue. Our lunch entrees sat on the counter for 8 mins (we could actually see it!) and we had to ask our server to check on its status. She took her time walking back and even stopped to chat on her way. When she finally brought it to us both meals were just warm, the halibut was overcooked and even though my mussels had great flavour I wasn't given a spoon so couldn't enjoy the broth. By the time we received our food we had 15 mins to eat before we had to leave. Besides not bothering to ask us how our meal was or if there was anything else we needed we also had to ask for the bill 2x which took another 10 mins! Luckily for us there were 2 other ladies on our tour who let the driver know we were just waiting to settle our bill. Maybe we were just unlucky yesterday but I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will definitely not return. Overcooked can be forgiven as a one off but indifferent service for a restaurant of this calibre is not acceptable. Very disappointed! read more

This beautiful restaurant is set right on the water and if you get a seating on the patio it is the best seating you can have. Relaxed, beautiful views, nice breeze. Food is delicious and well presented. Great staff who will look after you and not rushed in any way at all. Great place to go after work for a drink or snack or full meal. read more

Fantastic view. Sat out on the patio with waterfront views. Even though they were busy, they were able to accommodate us. Service was fast. We had fish and chips and salmon burger. I was pleasantly surprised that the salmon burger was actually a large piece of grilled salmon and not just some processed burger. The brioche bun was very fresh and so was the salad. The food was delicious and the meals were a good size. Overall very good ambiance, experience and service. Great value for the price. read more
