Strawberry Cheesecake (gf) and Ginger Lemonade

Looking for a quick vegan meal? Doodah's is the spot for you! I ordered an entree with two sides which included the cauliflower chicken candied yams, and old bay fries. I immediately dove into the cauliflower chicken, the best item from my meal. I was super surprised that it actually tasted like General Tso's chicken. The candied yams, unfortunately were mashed sweet potatoes with zero seasoning, definitely NOT candied. Old Bay fries were a hit, crispy and full of flavor! As a sweet treat I ordered the strawberry cheese cake, it tasted less like cheese cake and more like a lemon bar with a gelatin texture--not my favorite, but it kept my taste buds intrigued for sure. The ginger lemonade was mostly ginger with the color of lemonade, so be ready for a big kick if you choose to add this to your meal. The main con I noted was the limited menu offerings, other than the cauliflower chicken, the only other "meat" option was short ribs. Yup, they were out of nearly everything else (every other meat and all sandwiches), which was super disappointing. I saw a lot of potential customers make a U-turn due to today's limited menu.

Cool vegan spot up the street from my Auntie's house. I had the vegan lasagna, vegan ribs, vegan macaroni and cheese. Was pretty good considering this is all vegan food, so no butter, no cheese, no real pork, no real ground beef. I'll come again when I'm on my health consciousness tip again.

UPDATE: Against my better judgment, I tried again. First, the good: the garlic kale salad was good. So was the Sweet Love tea. These are what the 2 stars are for. I got the lasagna and one side (the kale). The lasagna was dry. Never in my life....not even at Dodah's, have I ever had something they called "lasagna" be DRY. Like, no sauce. Zero sauce. Just dry vegan meat and dry vegan ricotta. I had to put slices of Violife vegan cheese in between the dry pasta sheets and reheat it to make it edible. Never again. I was a fool for thinking things would be better. I'm done with Dodah's.

GUYS ( a selfish part of me doesn't want to write this review so I can keep this place all to myself) Best vegan food I've had in my life. Love the welcoming atmosphere & accommodating staff. The plan originally was to order to go.. but after we had a few taste tests.... boy we sat there and ate. The place isn't that big either. To the food: General t'so had really good flavor, & the cauliflower was cooked perfectly. Sweet kale was good too! The ribs reminded me of a smoky meatloaf flavor, they were good too! Now the greens?!!?? Was differenttttt. My bf said "ain't no way these are vegan" (I guess he think vegans can't season food????) but yall the GREEENS!!!!! I can't even put it into words, I had to taste test 3 times & tasted something different each time... idk idk yall try them. Drinks are $5 but go big or go home! They're good too! Between our two choices I preferred sweet love over colada moss Lastly we tried the strawberry cake (I'm not a sweets person but my bf is) it didn't taste like strawberry. The cake was okay, just no strawberry flavor.

As a vegan, I was thrilled to visit an all-vegan restaurant for the first time and decided to try Dodah's. The food was served quickly after I placed my order, which was a plus. The cafeteria-style setup means the food is on display and not made fresh to order. The mac n cheese was good and reminded me of NuVegan's version, but if you're not vegan, don't expect it to taste like traditional mac n cheese. They use a homemade cheese sauce rather than store-bought vegan cheese. The General Tso cauliflower was decent, though a bit too sweet and could have been crispier. The green beans were my least favorite and could have used more seasoning. The cookies n cream cheesecake was just okay--not something I'd get again. I decided to give Dodah's another chance and ordered through Uber Eats the next day, hoping to enjoy their mac n cheese again. Unfortunately, this time the mac n cheese tasted off, and I couldn't finish it. The General Tso cauliflower was even sweeter than before, as if they had dumped an entire bag of sugar into the sauce. It didn't taste like General Tso at all. Dodah's need to work on consistency. Overall, I feel there are better vegan options out there.

Came for lunch and it was great! All the food taste so REAL! And the benefits are that it's super healthy. The service was great. The ambiance was great. Would 100% recommend!

Ordered through GrubHub for a friend. My friend enjoyed the meal, however the restaurant messed up the order and there wasn't a way to easily get it fixed. My friend ordered zucchini and squash but it was somehow subbed for collard greens. Overall the portions were quite large and delivery was quick and efficient.

I ordered from Dodah's Kitchen because I've been trying various Vegan restaurants in DC. This place is a bit out of the way, so delivery does take a while. However, the food is very good. I got the meaty lasagna, which tasted like a standard lasagna. The crab cakes - although they admittedly looked a bit weird in terms of color - tasted excellent and just how I would expect crab cakes to taste. The potato salad was nice and sweet and creamy. I also got the Mac and cheese since they were having a buy-one-get-one free deal. The Mac and cheese tasted very nice and rich, though I wouldn't really say it tasted like cheese (and it wasn't creamy or anything). Nevertheless, the food here is pretty good, but I doubt I will be ordering from here anytime soon just because of how far away it is and how long delivery takes.

One of my best good friends let me I know about Dodah's Kitchen. She is a pescatarian and knows that I'm a meatarian who likes good food. Okay first things first DK is located on the corner of the street, bright white. So happy that someone else took a picture of the outside or I would have ridden right past it. Parking is on the street and is metered. The interior is quaint with a small seating area; although I believe this is closed because of the 'vid. Food is cafeteria style on warmers. They also have a refrigerated case with juices and their desserts. They have a nice selections of cakes and cheesecakes, etc. They have lots of options IMHO, for sandwiches, entrees and sides. They even have brunch items all day. I got an entree with two sides a piece of cornbread and because I wanted this to be a well rounded review (ha) a piece of sweet potato cake. Don't y'all love it that I took one for the team? Well rounded indeed! The sides were deliciously seasoned. If you're not a fan of garlic, I'd stay away from the kale, but I thought it was perfect and super fresh. I have no idea what the drummies are and was taken aback by the stick (because duh drumstick) but they were good too. You have a choice of dipping sauce if you like, but I don't think it needed them. The cornbread is about $2 extra with an entree. Can't say it tasted really like cornbread, but more of a sweet bread. I could probably do without that. The sweet potato cake was awesome, not too sweet and had just the right amount of sweet potato. I was really surprised at how good it was because I have had bad experiences with vegan desserts. The portions of everything were huge, I was able to get a couple of meals out of this. The staff was friendly, changed his gloves in between guests (yes!) and was helpful. I believe they have a loyalty program, and you can also buy a meal plan too. When I go back I'm going to avoid the stick and get the tenders and try the cheesecake!

I came here the other day and ordered about $50 worth of food. I bought all four cheesecakes for a party that I was going to. The strawberry one was by far the best. There was blueberry, sweet potato, and cookies ' creme Oreo as well, but I don't recommend the Oreo one. The texture nor the taste hit right. I also ordered a combo meal of seafood mac 'n cheese, chicken drummettes, and collared greens. The texture of the chicken drummies was great as was the taste. The mac 'n cheese and collared greens, on the other hand, were both good at first taste, but PHEW, they were salty! I am shocked that people are able to consume this much sodium per meal. I don't recommend these two sides even for people who are not watching their blood pressure. It was very hard finishing them. The lady serving me was very cordial and let me sample all the hot foods before buying. read more

This place was amazing. Went to the Hyattsville location, and while the seating area is very small... That does not take away from the amazing, and flavorful cuisine. What's even better is that you can see in the back of the kitchen where they are prepping food, to let you know your food is placed with all vegan ingredients I had and falling off from being a vegan the last year or so, after being really successful for two years earlier... All I can say is WOW! My partner and I wanted to try something new so we pulled up to this spot. When I called my order I was greeted by Victor. Very nice and affable. And he remembered me when I walked in! A1 customer service and friendly throughout the entire process. I ordered the general tso's cauliflower chick'n with collard greens and plantain fries. BOMB! Ugh its so good. I need the recipe for real. And my man got the crab cake sandwich with coleslaw and seafood salad. First of all that seafood salad is TO DIE FOR. I could eat that everyday lol. I'm amazed because they really mastered the flavors of real meat/seafood and it tastes just like it. It was like a distant memory having that food since I haven't eaten animal products in a while. I will definitely being going back. S/o to this restaurant for being so AMAZING! read more

I stopped in for a dessert to go not realizing they serve entrees. After sampling the General Tso's cauliflower I ended up grabbing a meal and two sides. The server offered samples so I could try a few things before making a choice. The place was clean, everyone was masked and I walked away with delicious well-priced food. My quick pics don't do it justice. This will now be my go to (better tasting and better lit than another area vegan spot). Highly recommend. read more

I came in not sure of what I wanted and was offered a whole bunch of amazing samples to help me decide. The vibe of the staff and space is great, and the food was so flavorful. I ended getting the curry "chicken" over rice and the chickpeas. Next time, maybe a stuffed French toast. read more

I used to be a HUGE fan of Dodah's Kitchen but I might need to reconsider after today. Nearly a 30-minute wait with only 2 customers in front of me because the only available server kept prioritizing online orders before the actual customers in line. Plus I bought a slice of their usually tasty pumpkin cake but upon opening the container, I discovered it actually had mold on it...very disappointing. read more

this is some of THE best vegan soul food! The food is super flavorful and what I love most is that its not salty. Let me begin by saying that I am VERY MUCH a carnivore! However, mid-meal, I was convinced I wanted to CONVERT!!! Got the General Tso's cauliflower, Mac and cheese, greens, potato salad, drumettes, lemon cake and carrot cake and it was ALL AMAZE-BALLZ!!!!! I plan on trying EVERYTHING on the menu! Absolutely deeeelicious! *My mother will be in town on the 22nd and this is DEFINITELY on my "mom, you gotta try this" list!!! Love y'all!!!! read more

I ordered the Chicken Tenders and the Mac and Cheese. As an avid "chicken nugget person" since a child... I was too curious to not try this dish. I was very surprised at the flavor and texture of the "chicken." I didnt expect "fiber shreds" when I bit into it (see photo). It was seasoned well and fried well. The Mac and cheese was good. Theres something in it that seems familiar to me, I cant place my finger on it. I wouldnt personally order from here intentionally (my work provided lunch today and this was the choice), but I think Dodah's has an overall great food quality and I think it's a very good replacement for Vegans. Tl;Dr- probably one of the better vegan replacements. Didnt hate it, but wouldnt order primarily. read more

On my last visit to purchase a few side dishes to take home, the collard greens were a tad too salty, but other than that, the restaurant gets a five-star rating! For us vegans, I highly recommend trying their assortment of entrees, sided dishes, and desserts! read more

Amazing place ! I tried it for the first time the other day and the portions are very generous and affordable. The food was so good! They let you try samples because there's so much to choose from. I got the fish entree and the Mac and cheese as a side because I wasn't that hungry but it was more than enough food! The fish is great. I liked that Mac and cheese more so flavorful. The top layer of vegan cheese is my favorite part I wish there was more throughout or if I could get it on the side it would be 10 stars!! The drinks are very healthy! read more

There is a reason why this place has five stars. It is perfect. Everything on the menu tastes phenomenal. The ingredients are fresh the food is not heavy and the flavors are popping. EVERYTHING IS VEGAN. I loved my vegan steak quesadilla with plantain fries, quinoa and veggies. I also got carrot cake, Oreo cheesecake and ginger lemonade. The staff was also so kind and it's Black owned so it truly never disappoints. read more

I went to this eatery yesterday right before closing which was recommended as having great vegetarian food..The cauliflower was great..Five stars..However, I was able to get two sides along with my meal..The sweet potatoes was full of strings besides have too much of a twangy taste .. one star and the black beans and rice was hard enough to use as a scouring pad.As far as the sea moss- it was great as well as a raw tea with cinnamon. However, be prepared for the customer service to be weird as heck especially since an individual came out the kitchen and knowingly addressed me as "Sir" when I am very much a female.At this day and time he's lucky I was hungry and didn't ask for a refund of my 43.00 plus for food that was not worth my coins. As I was speaking to the server to get a utensil to taste some mustard flavored potato salad I was willing to buy as a side, the server replying " he has no utensils.. I responded " You have no utensil but then found a utensil packet while the individual calling me a Sir when I am a beautiful female..They joked about it as another male individual was pulling off his motorcycle helmet and proceeded to go in the kitchen area where the cauliflower was cooking after being told " we are close buddy"! He removed the helmet and chuckled as he walk to the kitchen from outside.. I also purchased a mushroom cold salad that reminded me of pepper steak in appearance..It's a hard no unless you need mushrooms to place in an already cooked dish and the store is close to purchase some. After being seasoned they will be suffice..Therefore, they gave me a 1000 points for just eating their food..However, I would tread lightly moving forward with this eatery and would only obtain the cauliflower and the Miss flavored sea moss..Nothing more unless you want to throw away your coins..Nonetheless..it was not a pleasant experience for a pescatarian who was famish for some nutrients..Two stars given for the two tasty items..The sea moss and the cauliflower! read more

My wife has been going to Dodahs since we moved to the DMV a couple years ago and I just tried for the first time. Get the general Tao cauliflower it is phenomenal! It's crispy, perfect consistency. The pepper steak is great as well! read more

Solid vegan food; well seasoned. I picked up General Tso's cauliflower, 'seafood' Mac and mixed veg. The cauliflower satisfied the Chinese food craving - it was a bit a salty but also sweet, which would've lent well to sticky white rice. The store is small but super cute, styled modernly and branded well, with the bold logo prominently placed throughout. I will come back to try more, esp their desserts, which were merched well near the door in an open refrigerated space that looked tasty and piqued my curiosity. read more

There is no misses at this place. Everything I have ordered since they have opened has been great. There hot bar food is fresh and tasty and the made order food is incredible. My non-vegan kids can't keep their grubby hands off of my drummies and the misses loves the General Tso's cauliflower. I find the food a bit cleaner than NuVegan but both spots are great for world class vegan food in the DMV. read more

Dodah's Kitchen was a very nice surprise spot I found while visiting the Arboretum. Craving something quick and hearty, Dodah's did just that! We both ordered the vegan crab cake, I ordered collard greens, and my partner ordered the vegan seafood Mac n cheese. For desert I grabbed both blueberry and sweet potato vegan cheesecake! The crab cake was on the saltier side, but maintained great flavor and savoriness. It had a great crust and a crumbly yet cakey interior. The collard greens paired well to cut the saltiness. The Mac had a wonderful seafood flavor! Taking 1 - 2 bites was so delightful then a 3rd bite would bring the saltiness to fruition. I'm glad the flavor isn't masked by the saltiness (as vegan places often do), but it was too salty to have more than a couple bites in a row. Both cheesecakes were great! Wow. I'm a first-time visitor and will definitely be returning. I had the General Tso Cauliflower, Mac and cheese, drummies, and sweet potato cheesecake. Everything was phenomenal, but the cauliflower was on another level. My goodness! I'm ready to go to sleep right now at 8:25pm because of this food coma I'm experiencing. Hands down best vegan soul food in the DMV (not to include BMore) and we've been to a lot of establishments! Spinach lasagna-bomb, "sea"food Mac-bombbbb, garlic kale, you guessed it...bombbb. Disappointing Experience at Dodahs Kitchen - Mount Rainier MD I have always been a fan of Dodahs Kitchen in Mount Rainier MD, but unfortunately, my recent visit left me with a sour taste in my mouth, and I mean that literally . I've been a regular customer for quite some time, and one of my go-to dishes has been their marinated mushroom salad. However, on this particular occasion, I was utterly dismayed to discover that the salad was spoiled and completely inedible. It was such a disappointment that I had no choice but to throw it out. To make matters worse, the collard greens I ordered were also in spoiled condition. This has led me to question the quality of the ingredients used in their dishes, specifically the onions. It seems plausible that the onions used might have been spoiled to begin with, which in turn spoiled the entire meal. Both dishes have the onions and when I got home, I noticed the tops of both containers were elevated and like it was about to explode! This is a clear sign of spoilage. When there's bacteria inside a container and the top is domed it's because the bad bacteria is multiplying. The plastic top should be flat. It's disheartening to see such a lack of attention to detail and quality control. To add insult to injury, I ended up wasting fifteen dollars on the spoiled food. As a regular customer who has always enjoyed their offerings, this experience was both frustrating and disheartening. I expected better, especially considering the reputation Dodahs Kitchen had built in the past. I sincerely hope that the management at Dodahs Kitchen takes my feedback constructively and addresses the issues of spoiled food and quality control. As a customer, I believe it is crucial to maintain consistent standards of freshness and taste to ensure the satisfaction of all patrons. Soooo.... I'm not sure if my review counts since technically I didn't visit nor did I order delivery.... I had... LEFTOVERS. My sister gifted me some leftovers. I recently had weight loss surgery, so I didn't eat much. I heated up my food for 45 seconds. Microwave usually kills flavor for me. I had the collard greens, the Mac n 'cheese?', along with the kung pao cauliflower. Let me tell you... this is some real soul food. I felt my soul elevate and ascend rather than my arteries clog. The collard greens (i think they were collard) were very tangy but balanced. It tastes like it may have been soaked in some type of vegan chicken broth. The flavor was awesome. If I didn't get this surgery, I can see my self ordering catering size portions. So good. The Mac and... vegan cheese ? That was soooo good. You could've fooled me. Tasted like dairy Mac and cheese. And I knew it was vegan before I tried it. So that's definitely extra points. The General Tso's cauliflower... Ok so just like the name suggests, this is cauliflower so try not to compare it to chicken. Besides missing the satisfying thickness of meat, this dish delivered big time with flavor. I absolutely love this place! It's so hard to find really good vegan food, but this spot has it. Everything is flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and made with so much care. You can tell they actually understand how to make vegan food taste amazing! The vibe is always so welcoming, and the servers are the best -- super friendly and attentive every time I visit. Love the food, but the deserts leave something to be desired. My favorite is the mac and cheese. The garlic kale is also phenomenal. The portion sizes could be a little more generous. I think the staff has gotten better since I first tried them a while back. Overall it's a nice little vegan spot. read more
