    Beef dumplings and macha latte
    Scott L.

Wonderful little spot in the NW area. The entire menu looked impressive with dumpling flavors you won't see anywhere else. The location thankfully had heat lamps on this chilly day and the seating faces the main street sonit made for cute people watching. We ordered the beef and curry dumplings. One steamed one fried. The oder came out at the perfect temperature, so no need to wait for cool down. The curry was SO good, and dipping sauce just added to that familiar curry flavor. Beef was also excellent and each bite had quality to it. I'm excited to try their lobster one on the next visit!

We finally were able to check this place out as it was a nice day to go out. They have front patio and back patio seating. We also realized they had a small parking section in their driveway (after we found street parking). We ordered an assortment of items to share - sweet n sour pork ribs, wanza noodle, black Truffle pork dumplings, beef dumplings, and pork cabbage dumplings. The wanza noodles were good and had plenty of flavor. The Truffle dumplings were good as you can taste the hint of Truffle in them. I did like their pan-fried option for the dumplings, which we got for the beef ones. They had a good exterior texture, whole the inside was still juicy and not dried. Overall, worth checking out.

Amazing dumplings! I stopped in for dinner and tried the lobster mac & cheese dumplings and the mochi with chocolate for dessert--both were absolutely delicious. The lobster dumplings come with a creamy white cheese dipping sauce that's rich, flavorful, and pairs perfectly. The dumplings practically melt in your mouth--freshly cooked and full of flavor. The service was personal and warm. Tonight it was a one-man operation, and yet everything came out hot, fast, and flawlessly prepared. Big bonus: they have a small parking lot--a rare find in NW Portland! The seating is cute and cozy, with several outdoor tables perfect for a relaxed evening. A real gem tucked into the neighborhood--I'll definitely be back!

I came here a couple of times a week ago only to find the establishment to be closed both days during their regular operating hours. Guess they closed due to running out of dumplings. I finally gave them a third try today, and they were actually open. The attendant told me they will be closed every Monday to prep for the week to mitigate any future closures. I ended up joining their month membership to take advantage of the half off price on dumplings. And, ordered the traditional beef, and chive, egg and shrimp dumpling. With the membership, I also get one free drink a month, so I ordered a matcha latte with my membership. My first impression on the quality of food is pretty good so far. Both types of dumplings tasted fresh and clean. The sauces that came with the dumplings paired well with the dumplings. I am excited to try the other types of dumplings. I would have given this place a 5 star review for the quality and service. The loss of 1 star is due to the closure that occurred and the lack of clear communication.

Dodo Dumpling was great! Decently sized menu, large and easy to read. Service was quick and kind, the space is well thought out and clean. Dumplings are tasty, and lemonade wasn't too sweet! I'll be back to try more!

Chive egg shrimp dumplings. The ratio of the dumplings vs the sauce container shows how little they are.

Way over priced. The restaurant is super cute even though the seatings are very limited. We ordered the cabbage pork and the chive shrimp steamed dumplings. The first impression seeing the food- they were appetizers and definitely not a single-order meal. The dumplings were tiny and definitely could use more stuffing. The flavor wise I was happy with the chive ones, they were fragrant and on point. Not so much for the cabbage ones, the texture was saggy and lack of the crunch you'd get from the traditional cabbage pork dumplings. We actually went to a second restaurant after eating the starters here.

my rating is closer to a 3.5, this new dumpling spot in nw portland is in a cute location! the inside is smaller, seats maybe 10-15 people. during my visit, i ordered to-go on the phone. when i got there, i had to wait a bit longer because they were busier that night. dumplings were great! cucumber salad was a nice palette cleanser, could have added a bit more taste. noodles were cooked well, but the taste/texture was not my cup of tea. if the noodles were put in the chili sauce it might have worked more for us. lemonade was tasty. cannot wait to see this restaurant improve as time goes by. will go back for dumplings for sure.

Pork cabbage dumplings that are pan-fried for that crispy bottoms.

Cute little spot for dumplings. My tip is to always ask to pan-fry your dumplings instead of the traditional steamed versions, because this way you always get that perfectly crispy bottoms. The menu is a bit fusion, with some fillings you wouldn't expect for Chinese dumplings such as lobster mac and cheese and kim chi chicken. It's definitely a small spot, so as it gets popular at peak times, it can be a bit tricky maneuvering the line to order, which is squeezed in the enclosed veranda with the bar counter seating. (There are a couple of tables inside the "house" and a few tables in the front yard with heat lamps.) I think the pricing can turn off some people because it is on the high-end, but the dumplings shape and juiciness is legit. I had the traditional pork cabbage dumpling and it had great flavor. Another time I had the chicken curry dumplings, which are chicken dumplings served with a side curry dipping sauce. It was tasty. I ventured to try the miso mushroom veggie dumpling and I think that was my least favorite, had a bit of an off taste to me but vegetarians will probably appreciate it. The service is super friendly and helpful in this casual self-service dumpling spot.

I came here for lunch, and when I arrived I was the only customer, but when I left it was getting busy. It's seems like it gets more foot traffic for dinner. I got the egg/shrimp/veg dumplings, the cucumber salad, and the matcha latte. Of all the items, the matcha latte was my favorite, and not because the other items weren't good; but because the latte was amazing! The dumplings were made fresh, and the cucumber salad also seemed to be made fresh as well. Staff checked on me when I was served, and when I was done. I appreciated the attentive customer service. They have a covered porch area which I imagine will be really nice when it gets cold. They also have an outdoor patio which is cute and surrounded my trees that provide shade. Some things to note about this business; you can choose between having your dumplings steamed or fried. I had mine steamed and they were great. You can also choose from several different kinds of dairy free milk for beverages, making this place a good option for vegans as well as vegetarians. They had soy, oat, and almond milk. They also seem to offer some kind of subscription service, which may be worth checking out for folks who want to eat here regularly. My only points of feedback are; it would be really nice if there was a place to park bicycles nearby. Also, it seemed like there was enough demand for dine-in to justify reusable dishware. I would recommend providing options other than takeout containers for dine in guests. The lack of dishware, however, seems understandable for such a young business. Overall, great service, yummy food, and a cute and quiet ambiance. I recommend it!

Amazing dumplings and super friendly and accommodating staff. I agree with others that it's a little expensive but they are very delicious and worth every penny....so treat yourself to some of their dumplings and enjoy the meal.

Every dish we ordered was off-the-charts delicious. We had: * Garlic dry green beans * Szechuan Dan Dan noodles * Beef dry pot * Pork soup dumplings I wouldn't change a single thing--everything was perfectly seasoned, full of flavor, and served fresh and hot. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, great for a relaxed night out. If you're even thinking about trying this place, stop thinking and just go. Duck House is now officially at the top of my dining list!

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

We rolled…read morethrough Portland and stopped for a few plates, and everything punched way above a typical highway stop. The smashed cucumber salad was super refreshing -- lots of garlic, crunchy, and exactly what you want after hours in the car. The green onion pancakes came out crispy and satisfying, but my favorite was the wood ear mushroom. They did something to it that made it insanely umami and savory, like a dish you keep thinking about later. The fried rice was solid and full of flavor, and you could tell the kitchen cared. The dining room was pretty empty when we went, so maybe it's newer or underrated, which feels unfair because the food deserves more people. Parking around there is kind of a hassle and the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but this is a definite stop for me next time I'm in Portland.

Shoutout to everyone still working on Thanksgiving Day! Because of hardworking folks like you,…read morepeople who don't celebrate holidays like me can still eat out. I'm super grateful. Before coming, I did my homework and checked reviews on Chinese review website. The opinions were kinda extreme, some said it was terrible, others said it was amazing. Since it was only a 1 minute walk from my hotel and actually open on Thanksgiving, I went for it. I ordered jalapeño beef 小炒牛肉, veggie chow mein 蔬菜炒面, and string beans 干煸四季豆. The beef came out first, and the first bite surprised me. It didn't taste like the jalapeño beef from other Sichuan restaurants. It tasted exactly like Cantonese beef with gailan, but with green bell peppers instead. Instead of tingly spicy, it had a subtle sweetness. If you're Cantonese, you probably know exactly what I mean. The veggie chow mein was good and reminded me of late night street noodles in Guangzhou, and it also had a slightly sweet touch. The string beans were good too, and didn't have any sweetness. There was some savory minced pork in it. If you're not a strict vegetarian and don't mind a little meat in the dish as long as you only eat the veggie part, go for this one, it was flavorful. While having dinner, I overheard Cantonese in the kitchen between the chef and staff, and ahhh, that explains why I tasted the Cantonese flavor in my dishes! It also explains the two types of extreme reviews. So let me be honest, if you come here expecting the Sichuan/Hu'nan version of stir-fried beef with a strong spicy profile, you might be disappointed. But for me, it was honestly a lucky hit. I did see some Sichuan spicy dishes on the menu, but I didn't order them, so I can't say if they're authentic. But based on what I ordered tonight, I was happy with everything.

The service was good and the staff was attentive during our visit. Here is a breakdown of what we ordered: Hand-Ripped Youpoo Noodle: The absolute star of the meal. The wide, hand-ripped noodles had the perfect chewy texture you look for. They were tossed in a deeply savory, slightly spicy chili oil sauce and topped with a generous amount of perfectly seasoned minced beef and fresh bok choy. It was incredibly satisfying and a must-order. Popcorn Chicken: This was a bit of a letdown. While it looked golden brown and came with a sweet chili dipping sauce, it was not special at all and lacked any unique flavor or punch compared to the other dishes. Spicy Chili Oil Wontons: These were packed with flavor! The wonton wrappers were delicate, and the filling was juicy. They were swimming in a robust, aromatic chili oil that had a nice kick and a touch of vinegar sharpness. Why 4 stars instead of 5? While the noodles and wontons were excellent and the service was good, the atmosphere was a bit uncomfortable. The restaurant was completely empty when we went, but it was super cold inside because the window was wide open. Between the chilly draft and the fairly generic popcorn chicken, it misses out on a full 5 stars.

Typically at most Chinese restaurants, especially fried dishes, you'll see a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. Their service is always fast and friendly. There is a gentleman in glasses that is always happy to serve and answer your questions. He is always happy to pack your food for you to go if you have leftovers as well, which is a lovely gesture. They have very cute decorations inside, from lucky cats with fortune cookies in their mouths, or a painted wall with a Panda cooking delicious food. I'd steer clear from their soup dishes, most of them lack flavor. I highly recommend their Chopped Pepper Fish and their Jade Tofu items though. Very flavorful and not very heavy!
