I've just used the Dolly app for the first time. I'd definitely use it again! I was able to schedule for the next day quickly. The guys were fast, efficient and most importantly, didn't damage anything. They brought their own dollies. They were on time and pleasant to work with. I've had nothing but great experiences with Dolly in the past, but my recent move has soured me on the company as a whole. I moved my one bedroom apartment to a new condo about three blocks away. When our movers arrived, they had no issue loading our items up and driving to the new condo. They called me when they arrived and let me know that they felt I'd "underestimated" what I had listed on my Dolly (I hadn't) and basically held my items hostage in their van until I accepted over $300 in additional charges. I felt like I had no choice but to accept the charges; I was alone with my infant son and this was my only day to move. They then carried in my items and piled everything in one room (and scratched up my son's brand new crib). I contacted customer service to let them know about my bad experience and what I felt like we're fraudulent charges. It has been 2 1/2 weeks since I first contacted them and the issue still isn't resolved. Multiple times I have emailed for an update and not gotten a response. Yet, I once emailed from a different email address not associate with my complaint and they got back to me right away. That says to me that they don't care about resolving any kind of issue that might involve a refund. They finally got back to me and offered me $100 back and an additional $100 for my trouble. No. I'm sorry, but that's unacceptable and frankly insulting. I wish I had hired a professional moving company. My sister also had a upcoming (expensive) move with Dolly scheduled and I convinced her to cancel after this whole debacle and will continue to warn people about using this company. DO NOT USE IT!! It is a terrible terrible experience! I reserved mover and helper a day before, it has been schedule for 11-11.30 am. At 11am I texted the mover to ask him at what time he will be there, he told me he was behind the schedule and will come at 12am. I told him that it might be an issue because I had to book the special elevator for the moving at the new building till 1.30. He didn't reply and canceled at 11.30 which means at the very last min! At 1 pm the company was still looking for new helpers, I ended up canceling with them. According to their policy helpers and movers have the right to cancel at anytime and the company has no choice but to rely on them, which is terrible especially when the helpers are not professional just like the one I got, you will have no choice but to reschedule it. Scheduled a move for Sunday afternoon at 4:30PM, but they messaged me to reschedule. Totally understandable, because it's difficult to find someone to work on Sunday afternoon. We rescheduled for Monday at 12:00-12:30PM, but around 12:15PM I still hadn't heard from a helper or the company. I called customer service to confirm the time and they said they couldn't find a helper and that we'd need to reschedule again. Had I not called, they would have just not shown up. Customer service said it was not their fault and that they couldn't do anything about it. Had they just kept me updated, I could've adjusted my schedule. read more

This was my first time using this company. I wish there was a "no star" option. Set up was initially easy, the mover contacted me that he could pick up the piece earlier. Then they contacted me again saying that it would have to be rescheduled to a later date/time. Why? They never said why. When I said it could be later in the day, I received no reply. There was no one available to talk to via customer service. Then I rescheduled for today and again they cancelled last minute after making the commitment. I took time off from work to be here today. This has been a huge inconvenience. I would not recommend them at all, especially if you have time constraints. read more

I recently moved and found a great deal on a couch at Habitat for Humanity. When I moved, I used Dolly for some movers and they were awesome. So when I found the couch and realized I couldn't move it on my own, I went back to Dolly and put in a request for help with transporting and moving the couch up to my apartment. I did this yesterday (12/18), and set the request up for delivery today (12/19) between 12-1pm. Yesterday (12/18), I received a message from a helper asking if they could move the couch same day. It was about 2 hours before the store closed and my evening had freed up, so I sent the helper a message saying I was happy to do the move today if they could make it before the store closed. No further response from the helper, nor had they formally accepted my Dolly request. I woke up this morning and saw that still no one had accepted my Dolly request. At 8:30am this morning I sent customer service a message asking if there was an issue with my request or what was going on. No response from Dolly until today at 12:11pm after my pickup window had started. Dolly customer service stated that they hadn't been able to find anyone to help me and asked if I had flexibility later today or another day. I explained that the move needed to happen today as Habitat only holds items for 2 days and when I spoke with them while purchasing the couch on Saturday, they would be closed Monday and Tuesday. Dolly customer support was able to extend my window for a timeslot today between 1-5:30pm, and stated they would coordinate with their helpers to get someone assigned. Radio silence until 4:55pm today when I sent another message asking what's going on. Customer service apologized and told me that since my start time had already passed that no helpers would be able to accept my Dolly request. You know... the one they rescheduled for me? So, from the way they explained it, after 1pm my window had 'started', and therefore no helpers would be able to request my Dolly even if they wanted to. Which sounds like something Dolly messed up and should take responsibility for, right? Nope. I again explained why the move needed to happen today, to which customer service responded saying that move date and times are not guaranteed and asked if they could reschedule the move to tomorrow between 11am-5pm. Again, NO because the store is CLOSED Monday and Tuesday. It felt like customer service wasn't really reading or fully comprehending what I was writing to them. Incredibly frustrating. I sent them a message saying no, if the move can't happen today before 6pm I would have to cancel, intending to cancel the Dolly request myself in the app. I sent this message at 5:11pm. I then received another response from customer service saying that had canceled my Dolly and hope they can help in the future. Um, what? I found that incredibly rude but whatever, it sounded like no one was going to be able to help anyway. Extremely frustrated and disappointed this time around, as I now have to figure out how to get my money back for the couch or hope they will extend the hold window. Not sure if I would use Dolly again after this experience. read more

Use at your own risk for moving - Dolly's services are NOT guaranteed. I booked my dolly about 3 weeks before my scheduled move, and that assigned helper cancelled a week out from my move, and another helper was assigned. However, on the day of my actual move, I was notified 45 minutes after my scheduled time that my helper couldn't make it. Dolly was unable to schedule another helper and I had to absolutely scramble to make alternate arrangements with friends/family. If you're flexible with time, Dolly might work. But if you need people who are guaranteed for a specific day or time, do not use Dolly and go with an actual moving company. read more

I used Dolly today to move a used Peloton bike...obviously something that is very heavy and "delicate". Edgar & Johnathan were GREAT! The lead, Edgar, called me the evening before to ask a few questions and go over what to expect on the day of the service. He also asked if he was running ahead of schedule if we could do it earlier (YES)! The day of delivery he communicated like he said he would and everything went seamlessly. I have been extremely disappointed with their customer service. The actual request of the movers and process was fine but due to how the movers rammed my 65" LG Smart TV in against the wheel well, the right side dented and smashed and the TV is essentially unusable and only a couple years old. I have reached out to support five different times but have not received any response at all. I am so frustrated and due to this, I would not recommend this service to anyone looking for labor only as they provide no support. read more

Tried to hire a dolly mover with transportation for a couch I bought on Craigslist. He would not help us because he was not comfortable with how we had to move the couch to get it out of the apartment and left. I received no help and was charged a cancellation fee of 50%. Nowhere was it stated that "harder" moves would not be done. Its one thing to not get help, it's another to get charged because the guy refused to help. I did not cancel - he did. I love this service and am so glad to have found them. I haven't officially used them, but I did start a transaction and had to cancel. The whole process was super easy and the communication with my mover was great. They charge a 20% cancellation fee, which wasn't much for what I needed moved. I know folks have had hit or miss experiences with dolly. Honestly, I've used dolly a few times now over the past two years and have had no issues. Each time the helpers have been easy to communicate with, professional, and great customer service. I do live in the city and have used them during normal Monday-Friday business hours so that may be when you get the best people. I have only used them for furniture delivery and assembly. I would recommend Dolly for any medium to small jobs like that for sure! read more

I had a mixed bag this week with this company. I had a 2 part move. I ordered a rental truck so I could move out the old place on the 30th, keep my belongings in the rental truck until I was able to move in the new place on the 2nd. I needed Dolly to load the truck at the move out site on day 1 and unload the truck at the move in site on day 2. The ppl that were assigned to move me out were not professionals. They scratched up my furniture, not insanely damaged but left some noticeable blemishes. I believe the main helper may have been somewhat pro but his assistant was a little boy that wasn't really strong enough to do heavy lifting. Not only did they show up 30 minutes late but they also ran over an extra hour and a half. I knew I was in trouble from the start when the first thing they attempted to move, my armoire, seemed to have defeated.....it took them 45 mins to get it down the stairs. To their credit it was 3 flights of stairs but it took me way less than that to move it up the stairs. I ended paying them an extra $100 cash because we ran over an hour and a half and I still ended up having to move more stuff on my own as they just weren't efficient. It took them 2 1/2 hours to load a studio + sized apartment into my rental truck in the alley. Gave the guy 5 stars bc he was nice and bc he asked me to but seeing how the next crew worked, he only deserved 2 stars at best. The move in 2 days later was much different. These guys showed up on time, I was running slightly behind with the truck. I wasn't completely confident driving this 16ft truck, asked them to help me guide it into the narrow driveway, they offered to park it for me. They parked it with ease, I could tell from the jump that they knew what they were doing. I was prepared to pay them all of this extra cash because of how long it took to move out, I felt like it'd take similar to move in, I was wrong. They had everything out of my truck and into my new place within 25mins. These guys were the real pros. Very efficient, I wish I could've had them moving out, I would've save some money. Overall I'll probably try Dolly again next time I move, I do believe that the first crew was just a bad outlier. read more

I had a mixed experience with Dolly. It is unlikely I will use them again (at least, I will seriously assess other options). After shifting my move date to a day earlier, the new date was not refreshing porperly online. I submitted a ticket (because I could not find a customer service phone number), but heard nothing, so I submitted a second ticket two calendar days later. After submitting the second ticket, I finally received a response. Furthermore, I received no communication from my movers prior to my move. After submitting two more tickets to Dolly (for which I also never received any responses) for support to contact the movers I was assigned, I finally got a hold of a customer service phone number. However, after leaving a voicemail for a callback, I received no callback (Dolly was not yet open and this was the day of my move). My movers then arrived late without any communication beforehand. While I was glad they arrived (because I was almost certain nobody was coming), we had to rush the process. Thankfully the move itself went smoothly. My things were not damaged and the crew worked respectfully and efficiently. However, a lot of stress could have been avoided beforehand if the movers arrived on time and Dolly were more effective with its communications. read more

My scheduled Dolly mover did not show up, and yet they charged my credit card ! On the scheduled day Dolly worker texted me at the last minute that his "truck" broke down. Dolly central was notified by him apparently, but they never contacted me to say if they were sending someone else. Then when I texted, them all I kept getting was an automated message. The phone number for Dolly was bogus as I called that and it said Not in service. Then I emailed Dolly staff and asked them to reverse the credit card charge but they never responded to that. So I wasted time with all this back and forth, and then had to call my credit card company to dispute the charge. read more

We needed some heavy furniture moved from the first floor to the basement. Eric and Paul got the job done quickly and were very careful with all our pieces. They made sure they asked where everything went and kept all the screws together for the disassembled furniture so the Dolly guys know where to find them when we need the moved back. I purchased a sofa today at 2:30 and at 6pm, its in my home. I used Dolly at the recommendation of the cashier were I purchased the couch. I got updates through the app. The guys were friendly and professional. He asked where I wanted the couch placed and confirmed that I liked how it looked before leaving. The price I paid plus the tip was totally worth it. I would use them again. read more

I was kind of disappointed. I am moving at the end of the month. I have a carpet cleaner coming at mid-month, and wanted to clear my townhouse of as much furniture as possible before they arrived at 10 AM. I have a van. This was strictly extra hands to help my adult child load up, then unload at the storage unit. I tried to schedule a Dolly between 8 AM-10 AM. The first Dolly team cancelled. The second Dolly team kept changing the start time. When I woke up this morning, the start time had been moved to 1:30 PM. As a morning person, my kids and I could have gotten at least two loads to the storage unit. At the price we were paying, about $200 each for four hours, waiting until 1:30 in the afternoon did not seem worth it. I cancelled the Dolly. I will say that I was immediately refunded the "hold" amount. I would say, schedule well in advance, and make it as plain as possible what kind of service you need. Toward that end, the app is not always helpful. read more

We pretty much paid for movers to show up on their own schedule, half way move our furniture to the truck and then leave us on our own to move the stuff out the truck. We would've been better off doing it all ourselves since the truck was improperly packed with damaged furniture. This was a complete waste of money, time and energy. Dolly seemed okay at first. It was easy to set up, and seemed like everything was in order. I hired dolly to move a murphy bed. I specified that it would need to be broken down to move. Dolly quoted me $256, and it seemed steep but i figured i'd rather have a professional. day comes, the movers show up at the pickup location fully unprepared (not even a drill). Them being unprepared causes delays so I spend hours waiting. Fine, as long as i get my product. They finally arrive at drop off - seem pleasant, pull in the pieces, start to walk out. Apparently they decided since they didn't have a note that they had to put the piece back together, they didnt have to do it. To keep this short, when complaining to Dolly they eventually offered me $80 back - out of $256. This was after agreeing that the piece should have been put back together, and admitting they were in the wrong. I didn't need help breaking down a piece of furniture and moving it. but now i've spent $176 for a bunch of pieces, and will probably have to spend another $175 in hopes of getting the bed put together, if its even possible at this point. Thanks for nothing, Dolly. Do yourself a favor and use a task rabbit. read more

Had the worst experience with Dolly. First of all my Dolly helpers were not as noted prior to my service. I had just had back surgery so I opted to pay a little more for two helpers. They were not careful with my item and to make a long story short I am now missing my expensive power drill after they left. Dolly customer service did not take care of the situation. I had to fill out some report that will take 4-6 weeks to resolve. I feel uncomfortable that I had these guys in my home and more uncomfortable that Dolly doesn't do anything to resolve problems when they arise. DO NOT USE DOLLY if you care about your safety, your possessions, or the care of your items. read more
