No frills super solid easy go-to sushi! Love the TYS Roll Combo--it has everything i would normally pick, for a super reasonable price!! Adored this!!

Love this sushi restaurant! I used to order on grubhub all the time when I lived here. Finally went inside and ate when we decided to have a Philly day. We also ordered the spicy pork gyoza. Everything was so good! The service is fast. The place is clean and so is the bathroom. Highly recommended!

I'm so happy I got sushi from here! The rolls were decently sized and they don't s skimp on the ingredients!! They are also very decently priced as well. Most of the rolls that I ordered were around $6 each which I say is a steal! Sushi flavor was on point and I felt very satisfied with the quality. I would definitely order from here again. Next time I will have to dine in and see if the service matches up! Recommendations: Shrimp tempura Salmon avocado

Fantastic neighborhood Japanese BYOB. For the sushi and rice lovers (not noodles unless in soup), they have SO MUCH to pick from and all amazing. The dinner bento boxes are fantastic for takeout (you get a little bit of everything). In the restaurant, I cannot recommend enough the spicy pork bibimbap. Imagine a blazing hot stone bowl with rice, vegetables, pork, that continues to cook and get crispy while you eat it. AH-MAZING. Other recommendations- pork gyoza (fantastic), triple spicy double, tuna, roll, island, roll, Medusa roll. Great flavor, creative, and large in size. The staff is always wonderful and so friendly, and if you do want something to drink, there is a beer store next-door (it is overpriced, but it is convenient).

Came last minute on a Friday night and had about 15 minutes to order. They let me bring in a few beers, and have a cork fee for wine I believe. The sashimi sundae was delicious but didn't come with wasabi or much sauce, the tempura appetizer as crispy and light. The japchae was a nice surprise, super flavorful veggies and noodles. We were served pretty quickly with appetizers. There are booth and chair options, and the rolls are pretty large and filling. The quality of the sushi and fish was awesome and the price made me happy. BYOB sushi heaven!

Below average sushi spot. It was not very tasty and fish did not taste fresh. Rice was overcooked and slightly mushy. My initial pair of chopsticks were chipped so I asked for a new pair- the server gave me a pair of plastic chopsticks that were stained and there were what looked like bite marks on the end. I ended up just eating the sushi with my hands. The place was empty and quiet. No other customers were there. I would not be returning.

I had a pleasant dining experience at Doma with a friend. We received our food promptly. I had some of the best tasting sashimi and sushi here. Staff members were polite and responsive during our visit which made our visit even more pleasant. The atmosphere is very relaxed. It's a perfect little spot to bring a date or a few friends. It's very casual. I brought my own beer with me too.

My second time here for dinner without reservations and were seated quickly. Both times were good. Started off with the crab salad. This appetizer was not worth it since it was filled with just shredded crab sticks. Ordered the spider roll and the rock & roll. Both rolls were extremely filling and delicious. The rolls were quality rolls. Service was good.

Doma is a slightly hard to find Japanese/Korean restaurant within walking distance to the museums on Ben Franklin Parkway. Two families with young children walked here from Franklin Institute on a gorgeous Saturday in January. There was a couple of street parking spots near the restaurant, but it appears that most patrons walk to this restaurant from the surrounding neighborhoods. A tad before noon, and the restaurant was empty when we walked in. We occupied a long table that seated about 8 (we had 4 adults and 3 children in our party). The space is a little tight as the dining area is very narrow. The food was good and reasonably priced. It's mostly Japanese with a handful of Korean dishes. I had the duk bok ki appetizer, which was prepared a little differently than it would be made traditionally in Korea. Larger rice cakes that appeared to be finished off with a bit of toasting. The boys shared a tempura udon and california roll combo, which was priced right and I really liked the broth of the udon. My bento box was also reasonably priced, but the bulgogi was a little oversauced. I opted for the roll instead of the white rice, so I had nothing to offset the the flavor. Overall, a good experience, but the restaurant could use a little more space.

The food here is good with a variety from Japanese to Korean. Service is so very friendly. Restaurant is BYOB. However, the restaurant overall is not very clean and needs major updates. Starting from the clear chopsticks that are too worn out and is like toy chopsticks. Plates and bowls are a bit dusty and has some small particles on it. Restaurant has a lot of potential and I'm hoping there will be some improving over time.

We had dinner reservations for 7:45 but got there two hours early because we really wanted to try out their happy hour. Huge selection of food for happy hour and delicious drinks. We waited an hour but were sat and immediately cancelled our dinner reservations because we knew it was about to go down. Fair warning - if you're approaching 40 like us, it's dark, it's loud, and you're sitting on top of people. It will be worth it. We had the double knot roll, spicy tuna roll, BAO, and some drinks. All 10/10. But the real star is the grilled meats. Specifically the scallion ribeye. We tried to take pictures of all of it but it was literally too dark in the restaurant. I would go back and just order ribeye skewers for the entire happy hour. They don't take happy hour reservations but get there early. It's the best.

It is…read moredefinitely very dark inside and I was glad to be seated in the less noisy basement compared with the super noisy bar area on the first floor that also has dinner seating. We sat in a cozy corner booth and could easily hear each other although we could not read the menu or clearly see what we were eating the lighting is so dim (and consistent with the gothic theme). Now onto the food. We ordered 9 dishes (waiter suggested 8) and it was way too much for us and I'm a big eater! Edamame dumplings - 4/5, may be just me, but I don't really enjoy mushy fillings to my dumplings. The broth they came in was amazing though Tuna rice cracker - 4/5, not really a cracker, more like a crunchy mini loaf of rice topped with tuna and a slice of jalapeno - delicious and much more filling than what I was expecting. I only gave a 4 instead of 5/5 for taste because of the unexpected presentation of the "cracker" Shishito pepper small plate - 5*/5 outstanding! I could eat these all day they were so delicious. I'm not sure how they flavor these or what light crunchy sprinkles were on top of this very generous portion of peppers (I would estimate maybe 30 peppers?) I'd go back just for this dish Black cod fried rice - 3/5, I should know better that a miso black cod will be somewhat fishy, and with it spread in chunks throughout the fried rice I'd say this was my least favorite dish. Crispy brussels sprouts - 4/5, a solid offering, not much to write home about Crispy tofu - 3/5, not particularly unique although it sounded amazing when described - cubes of deep fried tofu drizzled with peanut sauce on a bed of cilantro pesto. But not that tasty and not that interesting Scallop robo - 5/5, excellent with a kick from the spicy powder on these, note these are very small portions, three slices of scallop (not even a full scallop or if these were full scallops they were very thin) on a stick Ribeye scallion robo - 5/5, also excellent, with three chunks of tender grilled beef Mochi ice cream: passion fruit, matcha - 4/5, but mostly because I'm not a huge fan of mochi ice cream, I'd rather just have the ice cream or have it with a brownie or between two cookies So overall, service was great, not overly attentive. And the food was very solid with an outstanding exception with the shishito peppers. I'm not sure I'd go back as it is very dark in there and if I was seated on the first floor I'd not be able to have conversation with my dinner mates.

Let me tell y'all something…read more.. I came to Sampan tonight as a party of one, and apparently being alone is the restaurant equivalent of showing up to a cookout without bringing a side dish. Now before I start, let me say this: I'm a huge fan of the owner. Matter of fact, I used to work for him part-time years ago. So writing this review feels like having to tell your favorite aunt that her potato salad got raisins in it. Nobody wants to do it, but the truth is the truth. The night started with them seating me at the prep station bar in the corner. Cool. No problem. I like my peace. I like my solitude. I like pretending I'm a food critic with important opinions. What I don't like is sitting there so long waiting for service that I started considering applying for a job. Nobody greeted me. Nobody checked on me. Nobody even looked concerned that I was aging in real time. When someone finally came over, my place setting wasn't complete. No napkin. No proper setup. Just vibes and uncertainty. I decided to do the chef's tasting because I wanted the full experience. Big mistake. That tasting menu moved faster than a church announcement after the pastor says, "We're running out of time." My server never asked if I'd been there before. Never explained anything. Never guided me through the menu. He was talking so fast I felt like I was taking the SATs. The ceviche was okay. Not bad. Not great. It was there. The cheesesteak bao had less flavor than the hold music at PECO. And here's where things got ridiculous. The bao was greasy enough to lubricate a transmission, and I realized I didn't even have a napkin. Now I'm sitting there looking like I just changed the oil in my car. So I had to flag down the host and ask for a napkin. At this point, I'm wondering if I'm on a hidden-camera show. The rest of the tasting menu showed up one plate at a time, and honestly, most of it was so forgettable I can't remember if I ate it or imagined it. But then... Like an angel descending from heaven... That bronzino arrived. Baby. Listen. That bronzino and those string beans saved the entire evening. That fish walked in like Martin rescuing Gina from another bad decision. Perfectly cooked. Flavorful. Beautiful. For a brief moment, I thought Sampan had turned this thing around. The pork chop was pretty good too. Then the kimchi fried rice came out and said, "Not so fast." Now I've had this dish before, and I know what it's supposed to taste like. Tonight? Absolutely not. I took one bite and immediately started looking around for the version I ordered. It was so disappointing I sent it back. And when dessert time came, I was emotionally unavailable. I declined. Respectfully. I was done. Look, maybe they had an off night. Maybe the staff was overwhelmed. Maybe dining solo just isn't their thing. I don't know. What I do know is that one heroic bronzino shouldn't have to carry an entire restaurant on its back like LeBron in Cleveland. The fish did everything it could. It fought hard. It deserved better teammates. Unfortunately, one MVP performance couldn't save the game. For me, this is probably my last visit.
