Absolutely LOVE DON ANTONIO'S! From the Lunch specials menu to the WET BURRITO. I have yet to try the asada nachos or a margarita. Because I'd usually visit on my lunch break from work.. However, those are next on my list. The inside is dimly lit and inviting. They also have a patio.. But, I've yet to see it.. You do not have to think twice about trying Don Antonio's, it comes strongly recommended by locals and anyone I know that works in (or) frequents this area. Hands down one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles! The vibes are immaculate. The restaurant itself contains different themed rooms that are just as interesting as the next. They offer all of your favorite classic Mexican dishes and simply execute on everything so well. Their salsa and chips are always fresh and everything is delivered to you piping hot. Don Antonio's has a GREAT outdoor dining area that's wonderful for having margaritas with friends. It is tho very hard to get a server to help you. And once he's come to our table he was so rushed he wouldn't even wait for all of our orders. It was crazy. We had to call him back three separate times just on drink orders. The food is so so. This is another long-standing neighborhood fixture. Great food, great atmosphere and, mostly, great people. Everyone there is friendly...but...the #1 guy there is behind the bar ...CARLOS. Makes the best margaritas. My fav is a skinny margarita. Don't like ''em too sweet. Carlos squeezes a whole lime into these and the are perfecto!!!! Food: I have a few favorite. Went for a birthday. As everyone else says, it's standard Mexican fare like you get all over L.A. at these sit-down, table-service, all-you-can-eat chips and salsa places (is that CaliMex?). I had fajitas. Average, not amazing. The GF had the Don Antonio's House Special. We all tested each other's plates and we all agreed, that was the best item we ordered. The service was good except, as everyone says in these reviews, the Margaritas had almost zero alcohol. I don't always trust Yelp reviewers so I asked the server how strong the Margaritas were and he said they were pretty strong, so I ordered one. After all, it was my birthday. He asked if I wanted it on the rocks or blended. I told him on the rocks and he delivered blended. My guess is they used a medicine dropper to add the alcohol. I passed it around the table and no one could taste any booze whatsoever. This Margarita ripoff was $9.00. My advice: DO NOT ORDER MARGARITAS! If you like to celebrate with drinks, this is not the place to do it. Bottom line, the food is ok but the drinks suck, so it's easy to find another place with great food and great drinks for the same prices. A lot of Yelpers recommend El Cholo. That's great advice. If you work close by, they have the Don Antonio's House Special at lunch. If you're not going to drink, this would be a good choice. read more

NEVER again ! normally i don't patronize establishments that don't have at least 4 stars, but my friend just hadddd to try don antonios ! and we BOTH regret it ! customer service was great that's the only thing they get 1 star for. the "chicken soup" was just EXTREMELY SALTY tomato broth with a few pieces of what tasted like ready cooked chicken breast from the frozen section at the grocery store. when I say EXTREMELY i mean it was not edible. I saw one post saying the chicken fajitas was "greasy" and I thought the person was just a health fanatic so I ordered them anyways . BAD idea ! The same nasty chicken from the soul , in grease and oil that once I began to eat it, I could tell I would throw up if I ate any more . The shrimp in garlic sauce was awful ! the shrimp was butterflied and still had the poop, and it was fishy ! And terrible texture ! I kept having to spit it out so after the 3rd shrimp I gave up before I got sick. the brand and rice were the best things of each dish which is why they both got 1/5 The salsa is just spicy tomato broth full of diced onions . 1/5 The dessert xango had what tasted like bananas that should've been on their way to the trash, but the cream cheese filling and breading were Ohkay [meaning edible] outside of that which got the 1/5 NEVER again ! $87 down the drain read more

Our Sunday lunch was a BUST!!! Walked into a room full of tables. No hostess or sign telling us where to check in. Walked to the bar. There were 2 guys sitting at the center of the bar and stuff waiting to be cleaned up on either side of them. 4 seats to the left and 3 seats to the right. It was pretty loud, so we checked out the patio area. The patio area was pretty busy but they had 3 two person tables and 1 four person table available. The waiter was tempted to sit us at a 2 person with one of us at the side where the door would open to our back. We finally got a seat in the back. Again.... they refused to give us the table for 4 because we were a party of 3. Aren't WE the paying customers? Aren't WE the ones who know how much space we need? 2 grown men and I women. Maybe if it was just the 2 of us but 3 of us was very tight. Chips. Salsa. And water arrived. With this alone there wasn't any room for the food we ordered. 2 chicken fajita combos 1 shrimp fajita combo 1 steak fajita a la carte Ok. Let's cover our findings as we sat down. The waiter had just finished wiping the table with a wet/ dirty cloth. A chair was also wiped and it was still wet prior to attempting to sit. We asked for napkins to re-wipe the table and dry off the chair. It was all GROSS. We were ready to walk at this point but we were hungry and just wanted to see a better side of this restaurant. Food arrived and just as I called it, we moved al the stuff from our table to the next table because there wasn't any room for our food. Funny how the waiters didn't say a thing about it. Greasy. That's the only word to describe the food. Drinks were ok. Better than the food but not strong enough to make us forget. There was a bug in the ice of one of the drinks. There was a dirty plate and napkin that was put in front of me to use. Thanks but no thanks. Also, this place was handing out straws left and right. Over priced and not worth the time and effort. Poor customer service at the door. Got to the restaurant with no one else waiting ahead of us. Told us to wait at the bar it will be about 10 mins for our party of 3. Saw others behind us being seated. There are two hostesses, one of them apologizes and says she'll seat us right away. Even the nice bartender recognizes that we've been waiting for 45 minutes and speaks to the hostesses. One of the waiters interjects into the conversation saying "we're busy" without knowing the situation. We left after the tall hostess came to ague with us after we are seated. Very disappointing especially since we've been coming to this restaurant for over 35 years! The manger lied to us saying that the table they sat down ahead of us was for a big party but others ended up not showing up. He does not realize we heard the hostess called their name for a party of four. Restaurant response makes us seem like we were seated complaining about our booth and we were disrespectful. Wow! Excited to be eating out on May 2 and wanted to participate in "Guac on the Rock". Dwayne Johnson's birthday celebration where you look for a participating restaurant (Don Antonio's was on the list found on the website Teremana.com) Order a tequila drink (eg. Margarita, etc) using Dwayne's tequila brand, Teremana and order guacamole. Keep the receipt and Dwayne Johnson will pay for your guac. When I asked the server if they have Teremana tequila, he said what? So I repeated myself and then he said no. So I ordered a classic margarita on the rocks while my friend ordered strawberry frozen. We ate our food and enjoyed each other's company. My friend chimichanga was huge so she only ate half. The guac was deeeeeelicious! We were able to get more chips to finish off the guac. Since it was a Saturday I ordered the menudo with corn tortillas and it was comfort food for me! Although, Don Antonio's only had the soup base and tripe. That's it; no hominy or other delicious morsels. Thankfully, they brought the dry oregano, onions and cilantro and lime. We passed the bar as we paid the bill and left. I decided to ask the bartender if they served Teremana tequila. He said what? So I repeated myself and then he said no. Our server happened to be standing nearby and stated, "So you don't believe me?!" I told him I wanted to ask the bartender. At which point the bartender asked me, "Did you say Teremana?" I said yes Teremana tequila. And then the bartender said oh yes we do and showed me and the server the bottle of Teremana! I felt the server disregarded me as a customer. Delicious Mexican food in a cute hacienda style patio! If you choose to sit inside, checkout the room that looks like a cave, lighting is dim, it's fun, sort of Romantic . You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! It's all really good! Margaritas anyone? They're phenomenal here. The sizzling fajita plate is a must try, you can choose between vegetarian, steak, chicken, shrimp, or a sharing size with steak and shrimp, comes in a sizzling, aromatic, skillet that instantly triggers happy taste buds! Let it be noted there was a larger party of 10+ celebrating a Birthday, so I understand if staff was needing to multitask. We waited a good 20 minutes to be seated. Then after being seated were left alone for at least another 20 minutes. Our server was extremely negligent, to the point he even past by our table when we tried to get his attention. I like this place a lot, but can't help but compare to my other 2 more favorite spots in the hood, Gilberts and La Talpa. Their salsa is the bomb and different than the other 2, love the garlickiness of it. I had a potato taco and a cheese enchilada. Lunch special is spot on from a price perspective, but I like the potato taco and enchilada better and gilberts and the enchilada better at la talpa. What I do love here are the comfy booths, that's reason enough to choose this one over the other 2. Can't speak about customer service; since the waiter didn't have any!! The extra plates were dirty, never came to check on us. Asked for salsa & a refill never got it. Mostly guac and beans probably straight out of a can, I couldn't taste the asada. Oh, and to add insult to injury there's a three dollar uncharge for this crap. Chips - only silver lining. Old-school Mexican restaurant with lots of comfortable booths and cool vibes in a decorative darkly lit room. There's also a nice outdoor patio in the back. The food is good & consistent and they even have really good potato tacos for a vegan-friendly option. My go-to is the combo plate & tostadas, their prices are extremely reasonable and their tortilla chips are pretty pretty pretty darn good too - especially when served piping hot. The waiters, servers and bus staff are always friendly and like to keep the flow going with a nicely paced dining experience. I don't drink much but their Cadillac & ice blended margaritas are solid and hit the spot on warm summer nights. I've been coming here for over 30 years (wow I sound older than I am ;) and Don Antonio's never disappoints...and I try avoiding words like never. read more

My husband and I visited this eatery for the first time today, looking for a good meal and a strong margarita. For the past 30 years, El Cholo had been our favorite spot for a carne asada meal, steak or chicken quesadilla and a couple of strong margaritas. Our server at Don Antonio's warned us that our margaritas will be served weak. He was honest. Our margaritas were so weak, we had to order extra shots of tequila for our drinks to taste like adult beverages. Those two extra shots cost us an extra $18. We did, however, enjoy eating on Don Antonio's patio, which was airy and pleasant. Our meal was acceptable. Our server performed his job sufficiently. We gave Don Antonio's a chance to win us over. We don't plan to return because we feel we were cheated into spending more money for an adult beverage. It is one thing for aroma and another for total smoke-out(especially w/Palisades fires!) Very insensitive to restaurant establishment. Okay. This is my all time favorite Mexican Restaurant. I could eat this for breakfast lunch and dinner all day every day. I always get the combo with a Chile Relleno and Enchilada that comes with refried beans, melted cheese, and rice. The sauce with the Chile is slightly sweet and SO tasty I could probably eat it like soup. Margaritas are a no brainer I usually just go for the house. Props to my bestie for showing me this place. The outdoor seating is really cute, surrounded by greenery so it feels very peaceful and relaxing while dining out there.
