Where to even begin....if you want someone telling you and calling you out on how much to tip,don't go to this place!!!!! I believe it might be the owner(not sure but it was an older gentleman waiting on us) commenting how my husband and I should leave a better tip because "the waiters only get paid $10hr" I can see if no tip was left at all but to tell a customer out loud how much to tip is VERY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL!! Now using the handheld if you order extra sour cream are you get charged 6 dollars. Yes for sour cream 5 dollars for extra pico. I really wanted to try a new take out restaurant today for lunch so I could get my Yelp on. I scoured my fellow Yelp'ers posts this morning and stumbled upon this one: DON LENCHO's. Fairly easy to get to right off 83rd Ave. in the heart of Peoria. Tiny, tiny parking lot which forced me to get creative. So evidently, there are two entrances to this restaurant. I walked in on one particular side and was given a lot of awkward stares. No one addressed me. No one greeted me. No one said Hello - how's it going? How can we help you today? Nothing. I was stared at like I had lobster's crawling out of my ears. So I walked through the restaurant over to the other entrance where an older woman was tending a cash register. Ahhh! Surely this must be the spot where you would give an employee your take-out / to-go order, right? I was again stared at by every employee in this restaurant. Numerous servers looked at me. The dude behind this weird bar area looked at me. I walked up to the older woman behind this counter and I said: "Hello. Could I please place a to-go order?" Her mouth was agape and she stared at me. So I repeated myself slower and a little louder. She stared at me. Her mouth was slightly open and she just stared at me. I would assume this meant she didn't speak a lick of English. What an absolute clusterfuck of all clusterfucks. I get it. It's a Mexican restaurant. I would expect there would be a few people there who only speak Spanish. I'm not knocking that at all. It's their restaurant. I could give two shits if they only speak pig-latin Swahili, but for the love of all that is holy and good - I'm legitimately trying to patronize and support you as a local business and there's no one there competent enough to take a simple to-go order? I even went so far as to grab a menu off the counter and POINTED at the combination I wanted to order. Nothing. Just stares. Mouth slightly agape from the older woman behind the counter. Just staring at me. Did I smell? Do I look funny? Did she want me to do a magic trick? ...alas, I'll never know the answers to these questions because no one wanted to try and communicate with me. Maybe I would have gotten better service if I walked in, sat at a table... but it clearly states they process take out orders. I don't know who's taking out these orders, but it wasn't me today. So sad. Maybe I didn't do something right. I'll never know. I have a complex now so I'm going to shower. I love coming here for Mexican food. It's never ever disappointing, I tried the oysters today and then had some bean and cheese burrito but didn't take a picture bcuz I ate it so fast. I loved the 6 oysters I wish I would have done 12.. this place is by far such a great place to chill and have a good drink or two.. I'm ready to come back already. I'm not terribly picky. I like simplicity. I ordered the number 1, taco, enchilada, rice and beans. I get the best glimpse of a restaurant's foods by testing out the things I like best. I am going to toss in here, that the two people I was with ordered a chicken burrito and fish. They were very happy with their meals, which must have taken longer than mine to prepare. And hence, mine must have sat around...for a while! Which is why, if you have KIDS that like simple foods, you may want to pay attention if they complain. My simple meal arrived almost too cold to eat. But, I'm starving! I started with rice, then beans, waiting for the savory flavor of shredded beef enchilada and it's just not there. The meat was very dull flavor wise. And it didn't stop there...the taco. The easiest possible thing to make, was deep fried to the point that the "shredded beef" literally crunched and turned to dust. I opened the taco and removed the lettuce and stuff to find a thin crusty shriveled spattering of beef. It wasn't even recognizable and I Wish I'd have taken a picture but... My waitress said, oh no that's not what our tacos are supposed to look like, I'll tell the chef. And she never came back except to give us the bill. And that's literally all she did about it. Didn't replace my taco, didn't take at least the cost of a simple taco off my bill. Three stars for the lack of courtesy...stopped at Taco Bell on the way home. read more

The food was ok. Not used to red chili burritos made with pork. The service was really good though. Highest priced soft drinks around, $3.50, normal pricing is around $2.50. Could have better salsa but everyone has their likes I guess. It's a "One And Done" for us which is sad because we like supporting family owned businesses. read more

Everyone's so nice. Our waitress was so friendly. But here's the thing...the food is disgusting. They give you free stale chips and salsa. In our group we had ordered tortas, camarones rancheros, and fish. The tortas were uh interesting to look at that's for sure, the bread was burnt and the meat was red..I've had tortas in the past plenty of times and I've never seen any like the one I had here, after we left the restaurant I was really scared I was going to get food poisoning. My brother had the fried fish..it was flavorless. Tasted like absolutely nothing. The camarones rancheros were the absolute worst. The situation was almost laughable because they were so bad. Camarones rancheros are usually spicy and flavorful. These were just cooked in tomato sauce and onion. That's it! No flavor at all. When I asked the waitress if they were supposed to be like this she said yeah and that these were the best, I knew she was lying. The rice and beans that came with it weren't good either. We half a** ate our food, we payed, we left. When we got in the car my little brother told us that when he went to the bathroom OUR waitress was in there cleaning the bathrooms, and she asked him to go under the stall and unlock it because it was locked from the inside. Why the freak was our waitress, the person that gave us our FOOD and DRINKS be cleaning the bathrooms?! Gross. AND why the freaking freak would she think it's appropriate to ask my younger brother to get on his hands and knees to get under the stall?!?!? I was just in shock. NEVER EVER going back. The only reason we went to this restaurant was because they had ok reviews on yelp but nope, I don't recommend it to anyone. read more

By far some of the best Mexican food on the planet!!! Love this place the chili rellenos, are to die for always delicious. When I go in I asked him to put two fried eggs on top they didn't kick up no fuss came out amazing beans and rice cheese sour cream. Also the ceviche tostadas are amazing as well. I was really happy with this restaurant! We stumbled upon this when we were getting our car repaired and decided to stop and enjoy lunch. There were about a half dozen folks in there during the lunch hour and everyone seemed to be a mix of business and local families. Initially the service was really slow I'm not sure they were fully staffed but further into the lunch hour more employees showed up and everyone was a delight. We drove out of our way to come here and it was a wonderful choice! The waitress kindly seated us and took our order promptly. We ordered a shrimp cocktail and breaded fillet with garlic sauce. The shrimp cocktail had plenty of shrimp! And the breaded fillet with garlic sauce, WOW! They definitely know how to cook and season! Not only was their food great, but their hospitality was even greater. I locked my keys inside the car at 645pm. I was worried about the cold weather and no where to go to wait.
