Stopped in for a late breakfast. The we had eggs, bacon and pancake special and eggs, sausage and hash browns. We recommend everything except the sausage, it seemed like turkey or something. The service was great as well. Neat atmosphere in an old house. We'd definitely stop again. read more

The fish fry was not very good! But the worst part is that my 96yr old mother brought in a party of 7. Paid the bill that included 18% tip not realizing - or being told it had been added. Gave the server a 20% tip in cash! Doesn't say much for the server! Not a place our family will being going back too!!!!! How many others older people do they do that too? read more

Ok the meal was probably the worst I have ever eaten. The service as well as the servers look like they must be family. That must be the only reason they have jobs. Been there for many years, went tonight, bartender did not know how to pour a drink but did charge for drinks she did not pour, Was nice and corrected her, she was not happy and continued to short shot, after diner, was charged for additional items, had to request to go boxes when called out on it, she stated she overserved group and ridiculed group to entire bar. Group consisted of 82 and 83 yr old senior citizen and 60 year old daughter which are well known to community, Many patrons in bar were wondering what the issue was. The entire problem dealt with one charge on the bill that she was not agreeable to changing due to it being part of a meal charge for a salad bar. After driving past this place for nearly 10 years on our way to our cabin in La Valle, we've been told by locals that this is the place to go for fish fry locally. So, with family visiting from California, we thought...let's take them to a good old fashioned small town fish fry. We headed out around 6:45 and were dreading the wait (as you know on a Friday night, you can wait well over an hour at Green Acres or the Dorf Haus for fish!)...but figured we would just have drinks at the bar and wait....NOT!!!!!! The first red flag was when we walked in the door and the bar was full....but there were only three tables seated in the whole dining area of about 20 tables!!!! We were seated and greeted by our waitress, who was quite unfriendly (it's our experience that you can run into this quite a bit in Reedsburg and La Valle if you're not perceived as "local"). We ordered our food and drinks (they didn't know what a vodka press or Citron was) and headed to the salad bar, which was decent (standard supper club iceberg lettuce and toppings). Our drinks came, and were a mixed bag...the brand old fashioned's were great, but the long island iced tea was bad. The food followed, which was on par with my one star rating. It was edible, but pretty bad...they had a cornmeal type breading on their fish that was tough. The baked fish was dry and their only vegetables were steamed frozen (really, it's garden season!). The saving grace was the tater tots...they were delish! By 7:30 they were taking the ketchup and butter off the rest of the tables and cleaning up...clearly they weren't expecting more customers....all in all I would say to skip this place! read more

This restaurant doesn't even deserve a one star rating. Went there 28 Jul 18 for prime rib. My 103 yr old friend and two others. 4 of us. There really wasn't very many people there eating maybe three table besides us. Ordered drinks, glass of Chardonnay and a virgin bloody mary and medium rare prime rib.. Went to salad bar mediocre at best. Sat down and ate the salad still no drinks. Finally waitress came back with the virgin bloody mary but no chardonnay. Said the bartender couldn't find it yet but was looking for it. Guess that should of told us something. The prime rib came out it had some red on the outer edge and the middle was gray. Cut into it and it was gray all the way thru. We said to the waitress these are not medium rare, she said I know. we asked if there was a way to get the medium rare we ordered. So came back and said that the cook says that they are medium rare and that was that. We asked to see the manager, a woman came in she was very rude and loud telling us that the prime rib is medium rare and that was it. We said we are not eating this it is gray and not medium rare. She said yes it was red and that was all we were going to get. She was yelling at us. We asked for the check, that we were leaving and she said well you are going to pay for everything. We said that is not right we did not get what we ordered. We will pay for the salad and the drinks we should not have to pay for the prime rib since it was not medium rare and it was gray. She said oh yes you are. We said sorry but it is not what we ordered and it is not eatable. Then a man came in and was especially rude telling us that they were red we said no they are not. Then he started yelling really loud that we were just trying to get a free meal. We replied how are we trying to get a free meal when we said we would pay for the salad we ate but not the gray looking prime rib. He went into the bar area and was yelling to everyone we have some people who are trying to get a free meal. We said we would pay for the salad and the drinks which we did not get to drink. The man keep bad talking us to the bar. The lady final said we owed $39.90. For the 4 salads and the 2 drinks. We said that is crazy. Then the man was telling the people in the bar to watch and see what vehicle we got into. I walked up to him and said sir I can tell you which one it is. He said oh thank you. He did not recognize me.. I told him its the red truck and by the way I am one of the party you are telling everyone we are trying to get a free meal when you know it is not true. He said oh yes it is. He said he was calling the police I said by all means please do This was going on while the $39.90 was being paid just to get out of there. The had my 103 yr old friend almost in tears. Of course we said loud here is your $39.90 for the 4 salads and the one glass of wine and virgin mary. What makes it so sad is that I and my friend live in Reedsburg and could not believe how rude and mean these people were. SO PEOPLE BE SMART AND DO NOT GO ANY WHERE NEAR THIS DONNIE'S RESTAURANT!!! And to all of the out of towners I apologize to you for these rude people and want you to know that Reedsburg is not like these people. read more

Decent food, indifferent waitress, noisy TV in the bar section is too loud in the dining room.

Has become a regular stop on our Friday night fish fry rotation. Broiled fish best we have found in the area. Great soup and salad bar. Has been a real turnaround from a few years ago. No longer see owner around so maybe that explains the improvement. Ham steak dinner also great. Bartender and waitresses always on their A game. They are also new in the last couple years. read more

Went to this restaurant for Prime Rib Saturday July. 28, 2018 ( their special per their whiteboard). Waitress kept forgetting our order. Repeated it several times. We wanted three medium rare 12oz prime ribs and one medium. The waitress warned us that their cook quit the night before and the new one was not doing great. Should have walked right then, but we were hungry so we took our chances. Went to salad bar. Limited but okay. Soup-ok. Drinks finally arrived. Meal came out - primes were grey inside. We asked the waitress to replace the prime with medium rare. She took the meat to the kitchen and came back with the same meat and told us this was the best it gets. She apologized at least six or seven times. Then the bartender and "assistant manager" came to our table asking what the problem was. We told them what we ordered and showed them both the inside color of the meat by cutting into the middle of the grey section with a knife and fork to find the whole cut was grey except for one tiny section on the edge. Rather than offer to replace the order with something else they proceeded to accuse us loudly in the dining area and again in the bar of just trying to get a free meal-really? That is a first for me. I spend hundreds of dollars in Reedsburg every time I visit family and I am in town frequently. Too bad neither the "assistant manager" nor the bartender recognized us. I can't help but wonder if they would have responded the same way if they had recognized us as local patrons. The "assistant manager" told us the owner cooked the prime rib on Friday and he said the owner told them it was medium rare when he put in refrigerator. We were told they had to put the meat on the grill to warm it up....if you want medium rare and you know you had to "heat the meat up" wouldn't you use a rare cut so it would be medium rare when served? If you start with medium rare and cook it more it is no longer medium rare??? Apparently neither the new cook nor the assistant manager figured that out. By the way, it was great to find out the food was cooked the previous day and was just reheated. All we did was have a salad and cup of soup while waiting for our order. We asked to speak to the owner. We were told he was not answering his phone by our waitress. The bartender walked toward the phone and then came back and said the owner said we should pay for everything. Really? I told her that was not going to happen. The bartender walked away and came back with a bill for just shy of $50 for 4 salad bars and 2 cups of soup, a virgin Bloody Mary, and one glass of wine- the drinks were barely touched because the waitress kept forgetting to bring them to us. They actually told us that if we do not pay for the meat it would have to come out of their pockets. Not my problem. Serve food correctly and they would have had a bill of around $100. All I wanted at that point was to get out of there. "I paid "My Bill" of just under $50 and took our group of 4 across town and had a wonderful prime rib dinner cooked perfectly. My recommendation is to avoid this restaurant. read more

We stopped here to eat after traveling all day and noticing a steak pictured on their sign. We thought if they pictured a great steak they must serve great meat. Nope. Worst meal I have ever had. I ordered prime rib which came with baked potato and salad bar. Salad bar was okay at best. The blue cheese crumbles were not good, fellow blue cheese lovers know what I mean. They were the really tawdry, not really blue cheese flavor, wish I hadn't put them on my salad kind. Then came the monstrosity prime rib. My prime rib was completely grey and really hard to cut through. Also, the waitress asked how I wanted it cooked (medium rare) and it was well done/overcooked and dry throughout. I tasted one bite, which I then spit out into my napkin. The meat was SO OLD and DISGUSTING! I decided to just eat the baked potato, which was also not very good, but edible. I am quite shy and did not want to complain, but also could not eat my food. When we were done, the waitress asked if I wanted a box and I confessed that the prime rib was not good. She very rudely informed me that I should have spoken up at the beginning of the meal, but now it was "too late" . She was so rude and tactless I honestly thought I was on a hidden camera show. Needless to say, not only is the food disgusting, the staff is as well. Stay away at all costs, ANYWHERE else is a better place. Did I forget to mention that I sat with an empty water glass half of the meal and that all of the lamps coming out of the wall had cobwebs all over them. We were also the only table on a Saturday night, which says a lot. We didn't take notice of this when we walked in, but I wish we had. Seriously, just go eat at the Voyager down the street, or McDonald's, or go hungry, because this place is terrible. read more
