We got to Don's at about 6:45 am this morning. It was pretty busy considering the time. It was really weird because every once and a while we would hear this really loud cheering and clapping coming from one of the back rooms. Not sure what that was all about. Very greasy! The mens bathroom freaked me out... and I'm a GUY! The fries were good, but the tuna sandwich was horrible! This place smells funny too. A classic good ole fashioned diner/dive with your typical diner food. Don's is open 24 hours and they have a great mix of options to choose from on their menu from omelets, burgers, sandwiches, meat loaf, steaks, etc without breaking the bank. They also have daily dinner specials that looked really good. There is defiantly nothing fancy about this place. It's basically like sitting at home and enjoying a delicious homemade meal from mom. The service here is great, the waitresses are very nice and friendly and they make sure you leave with a smile on your face and a full stomach. I have yet to come here during the day, it has always been really early in the morning before the start of my double shift I had at the time doing the Albertsons remodel across the street. The burgers were good, nothing to fancy, just a good basic bacon cheese burger. The fries are delicious though. Those were gone before the burger was. The meat lovers omelet was packed with tons of meat and cheese, I loved every bit of it. The bar itself is in a completely different room seperate from the main dining room. I would leave no stars if I could. I've visited here several times over years, as I am a resident of Marysville. The wait staff is rude, the food is average at best, but today took a whole new turn. The waitress, if you want to call her that, was more interested in her friend at the front counter than her customers. Ordered the Angus burger, first off, I can assure you this isn't an Angus patty. Secondly, the patty was cooked thoroughly, as to assure there were no remaining juices left in this "angus" burger, they put half an onion on a cold bun with some good old American cheese....SMH... I know you're not a nice burger joint, but at least serve something resembling an angus burger. You also might want to put a timer next to your fryer so the fries aren't dark brown next time. Been here for lunch a few times with colleagues, none of whom are picky like me. On the most recent occasion, I had the reuben with a side of potato salad and iced tea. The food was serviceable. The toasted rye was somewhat soggy, but the sandwich was hot. The potato salad was average. Our waitress was friendly and on-the-ball, and we felt like we could sit there for an hour and b.s. about work. Unfortunately, the place needs a deep facelift. The place is looking very run down, and probably hasn't been renovated in years. When I walked in, the woman at the front counter was yelling at one of the waiters. Not a good start. I can't comment on service because I ordered for take-out. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I was home five minutes later, careful not to disturb the contents of the stryofoam container with my food in it. The mashed potatoes were some of the runniest potatoes I've ever seen - completely inedible. Had these been served to me at the restaurant as a dine-in order, I would have sent them back. The chicken fried steak was adequate, but considering they put both the steak and potatoes - large portions of each - in the same container, the runny potatoes made that somewhat worse. My past experiences have been both worse and better - on a good day they're okay. On a bad day, like today, go somewhere else. read more

I always come here when I'm in search of some breakfast food. They have big portions and cheap prices. I like going to these local diners. I like the fact that it's interior is from the 80's. For a while there they had an old 80's security camera which was kind of neat. I try to stay away when it's late at night / early in the morning. All kinds come into this place at these hours. Especially with there being limited options in dinning at 12 in the morning. All in all though, I like the old fashion American breakfast I get from this place. read more

As soon as you walked in you smelled that musty mildew smell, a lot of the booth seats had duck tape on them. It took a while for a person to ask us what we like to drink. He brought me a cup of hot water for tea, the cup was only 3/4 full. Then it took for ever for Karisa to come over and take our order, and while waiting some guy came out from the back and started to eat food standing up, then went back behind the counter got something to drink then after a few mins, he went back to the kitchen I think. Karisa only came over once to ask if all was ok, my chili burger was not that great. Too much tomatos in the chili and had a funny taste to it too. The fries were so s. It took forever for her to come back and take our plates and then she brought us the bill. It was the wrong one over $50.00, we had to go up to the register and tell them it was the wrong bill. The sandwich was good, just a tad greasy. The aus jus was not - Salty and not good at all. The coleslaw had no flavor. The coffee tasted a bit like the cheap Farmer's brand we used at work (cheap, not good), and at $2.79 a cup it should've been A+. Paying at the table consisted of the waitress holding the electronic pay machine in the air in front of you while you got to choose the tip level (started at 15%), then she took your credit card and swiped it for you. That was incredibly awkward. If I wanted to leave an anonymous comment, I could not have. I spent nearly $19 for a lunch sandwich & fries, coleslaw & coffee - Too much. I could only give this place 3 stars because, while the food was good, the place lacks the cleanliness that I would expect as minimally acceptable in any establishment. The belgian waffle is fluffy and I enjoyed mine w/ the strawberries and cream...which were piled high. My husband had the #1 breakfast and said his eggs over easy were perfect and the sausage links were incredibly tasty. Service was swift, except that we never received a check, so we just went to the counter and told the gentleman ringing up other customers our table seating and paid. However, during the course of our breakfast and use of the restroom, we found the table dividers, the tabletop quick menus and the shakers and bottles to be greasy and filthy...and the bathroom was not acceptable at all. Nowhere to hang a purse and there was NO WAY I would put it on the floor. Overall, the food would get a 4 from me, it was hot, tasty and priced proportionally. The service would get a 3 and the atmosphere and cleanliness a definite 1. Dive in and dine...go for the food, and not much else. read more

My daughter and I came here for dinner. I had been here before for their pot roast dinner and that was good Tonight I chose a tuna melt. My daughter chose a hamburger with blue cheese and bacon on it. She substituted her fries with mashed potatoes and gravy - she's weird (like mother like daughter). She said it was better than hamburgers at Dennys or Buzz Inn. I liked my tuna melt it had lots of tuna and the cheese was melted just right. Which is good since it was a tuna melt after all. It comes with a heaping helping of fries which aren't overly salted so that's cool. My daughter said she missed the stuff they used to have on their walls like a bear trap and some farm stuff - they now just have pictures. Boring. I had coffee with my dinner - hey it's my drug of choice. If it's your drug of choice this is an excellent place to go because they keep refilling it and refilling it and refilling it. It has a nice laxative effect so after dinner you might want to stop at Albertsons which is about a block away because that's about when it will hit you and you can make a run for their bathroom. I'm just saying so you're prepared. I didn't get sick from their food I think it was just the 6 cups of coffee I had with my tuna melt. If you don't want to dress up and you don't mind the karaoke that takes place in the back then you might want to try this out. If you choose to try the karaoke from what I could tell best to stay away from Santana's songs. Hey Carlos can sing and well people usually suck at his songs. Except for Rob Thomas but I'm not reviewing Santana right now. Came here for breakfast, I ordered the veggie omelet with has browns, my husband ordered the bacon, eggs, and hash browns breakfast. The veggie omelette is NOT vegetarian, in fact the only thing the waitress could offer me as a vegetarian option was toast. Seriously, toast. That's it. Very disappointing! My toast had way too much butter, but my husband liked his bacon, eggs, and Browns. Obviously, we will not be back, since all I can eat is toast and there are so many other places where my husband and I can BOTH eat a meal. Get with the times! Normally, I would give this place 5 stars. I have been coming here since I was sixteen every Friday until I moved south. Now I come here whenever I get the chance. Service was normally always great (Leslie is amazing and like family to me) and the food is ALWAYS amazing. However, this time, service was the worst I have ever had at this restaurant. I ordered the clam strips and fries. They always taste amazing. They still did. However, when I poured the ketchup on my plate, I put some fries in... the ketchup was HEAVILY fermented. I called my server over, and let her know. She looked at me like I was crazy. She then took the bottle, opened it and sniffed it and confirmed it was fermented. Then she took another bottle off of a table, opened it and put her nose up against it and sniffed it as well. That is really unsanitary. So I asked for a new bottle of ketchup. She hesitated and asked why. I replied, "if the ketchup on our table was fermented, that one could be too." So after asking her multiple times, she finally goes back to get a new bottle. After I am half way done with my food, she finally comes back with a new bottle of ketchup. She then never came to check back up on us. My boyfriend sat there with an empty drink. I kept looking over at them to see if they would come over. By the time we were done with our meal, I asked to speak to a manager. When I voiced my complaints, the manager became argumentative and replied, "what do you want me to do about it?" We explained how unsanitary it is to have the fermented ketchup out and she said ketchup ferments after 3 days and they rotate ketchup every 4 days... which that isn't true about ketchup. It takes about a week, and that ketchup was so fermented that it tasted like ketchup flavored beer. We were upset by the attitude that was given to us by our server and by the manager. We told her we intended to pay for our meal, but we just wanted to inform her that we felt like service could be better. Instead, the manager argued with us that the server already 'fixed' the problem. We told her the problem was with her attitude and inattentive-ness. The manager seemed to not think that her server was in the wrong and thought we wanted free food. I have come to this restaurant many many times. I have never had a problem with any servers there. This is the first time. It will not keep me from coming back, because I love the food. But I was very displeased with how we were treated. In the end, the manager comped our meal (despite our protests that we didn't want her to do that.) This was my boyfriend's first impression of this restaurant. I have been bragging how this restaurant was so amazing and my favorite. And I was really let down that his first experience was a really negative one when all I have had before this was positive. This place has some great hamburgers but as for everything else I don't know. I highly recommend the Whammy burger which was delicious. It came with two patties, bacon, ham, cheese, lettuce tomatoes, pickles, and mayonnaise and was huge enough to be my lunch and dinner. My heart is still recovering. The owners were also really friendly and helped me lookup a nearby locksmith as I had locked my keys an phone in the car. The servers were very attentive. Overall, I wouldn't say it's anything fancy but if you want original, tasty, American food while getting plastered on the weekend and aren't worried about all the calories Don's is the place to go. read more
