My husband spoke so highly of Don's seafood! He loves their oysters and great ambiance. He was definitely right about the ambiance, but everything we ordered was over cooked and/or not tasting right. We are from Southern California so my daughter and I had to have some southern style cooking we were recommended to go to Don's and we are glad we did, we were greeted with smiling faces from the hostess on a Friday night and you could feel the warmth, when we were seated our waitress was Adelle who was a delight very nice and sweet and knowledgeable of the menu. When she found out we were from out town and wanted to try crawfish for the first time she offered us a free sample of crawfish which was delicious and then we had the boudin balls which are pork and rice and are breaded with a sauce which had a little kick but are really delicious follow that up with a half dozen of oysters 3 which were DON'S ORIGINAL JACKED UP OYSTERS Oysters on the half shell, charbroiled with bacon, jalapeños and pepper jack cheese and Oysters on the half shell, charbroiled with garlic butter and Romano cheese they both was awesome so tasty I'm used to raw oysters but these were delicious I definitely recommend. So you're in the middle of BF Louisiana don't ask why and you are hungry and you are afraid to try out Mama Lulu's Shrimp Daddy Swamp Shack because you don't want to catch swamp scurvy so you find this place that looks like the locals won't call their father-brother the sheriff to come bust out your twilights and after no joke walking across a lawn impersonating a swamp you get to Don's whatever the dock this place is called. It's really cold inside because I guess it's so freaking hot in Louisiana they don't install heaters but look there's a fire maybe we can sit there but kk that's like at the bar behind the glass and you can't sit there and anyway that's Bubba's seat. At least they have 2 for one beer. But that last a pretty nifty trick they got going there because the beers are in fact two for 1 but they are also about the size of a sippy cup at the elfin kids table at the goddamn North Pole so you have to get three to equal one regular beer which if you've done the math you can see is not the best deal you ever got but hey. Okay the food comes at least I assume it will but it hasn't come yet but man it smells pretty good. But I'm not allowed to eat shrimp any more because I had anaphylactic shock ONE TIME and now my wife won't let me order shrimp and pretty much the whole menu is shrimp but I fooled her I ordered crawfish which is like river-shrimp so HAH Amy. Chain seafood restaurants are usually a disaster. Although this is a chain, it's a local chain and they manage to serve some decent seafood. Blackened, grilled, fried.. it's all fresh and pretty good. This location has daily specials and happy hour until 7 every night. The seafood is spiced right and cooked perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of raw oysters, but they serve them and they are cold and salty-- the ideal way to serve raw oysters. The char broiled oysters rival Drago's, which is the metric that all char broiled oysters are measured against. I personally recommend the crawfish quesadillas- imagine a crawfish boil wrapped up in a flour tortilla. They are amazing!! The service has always been excellent at this particular location. The fried oysters were fried to perfection. A lot of places over fry them, but here they didn't. The gumbo tasted a bit watered down and the green beans were way to sweet. The Zydeco shrimp tacos were great also. The bread was good but only had butter in it. Would have been better if it was a garlic butter instead. All in all it was great. My friend and I went to Don's Seafood in Hammond last night. We figured it would be a good choice because we like the one in Covington. We got a half dozen charbroiled oysters and they smelled fishy and we're burnt. I thought maybe the main course would be better. We weren't given silverware for awhile. I got the Crab Dinner and it had a list of amazing sounding things. When I got the plate everything looked small or already eaten the tiny dishes were only 1/3 of the way filled. The waitress only came to the table once I had to keep walking up to the cashier for the check and boxes. The waitress didn't understand what I meant by split the bill so I paid more than what I ordered. We won't be coming here again. I am now at home with food poisoning . read more

I was expecting more seasoned seafood than what I received after all I am in Louisiana. The shrimp po'boy lacked seasoning. The seafood gumbo had no seasoning and was scorched which is not a good taste with gumbo. Please improve because the restaurant has a lot of potential. read more

After calling around hoping one of the local restaurants would be selling it, we finally landed on Don's Seafood who was giving out sides of both dishes for free. Went to Don's today for lunch on the spur of the moment and they did not disappoint! We were seated immediately. Our waiter, Nick, was very upbeat, informative, and efficient. Our order was served very quickly. And our food was delicious. I had the shrimp plate and my husband had the fried shrimp & ettouffee plate, both from the lunch menu. I also had a glass of sangria, which was very tasty as well. If I had to say one negative thing, it would be that my fried shrimp had the tails on, which I do not like. Nothing special. Service is slow and food is mediocre. I had to send my appetizer order back because it was frozen in the middle, which tells me that it's not made from scratch as advertised. Also, presentation of my dish was somewhat suspicious. Grilled fish and rice was drowned in unidentifiable gravy, so I could not even say what type of fish it was. Amberlynn was the best dang waitress ever. This place was very packed but she was still on point. Never had to ask for another drink or anything at all. My wife and I had an amazing time here at Don's Seafood. The boiled shrimp and red beans and rice were amazing. Cheap draft beer which is always a plus. Not a single complaint at all. This was our first time at this location (Saturday, 8/17/19). We went in around 9:00, and while most of the restaurant was empty, they of course seated us at a lone booth right by the kitchen door and Waiter hub. Fine. While the restaurant was empty, it was chaotic with a lot of young wait staff. Some were just standing in the hub and some were running around with sour looks on their faces. I heard someone saying the F-word loudly. I look up and it's a blonde waitress saying it to a young waiter, "Was he F-word happy?" And this conversation goes on, until she storms off. Then a dark-haired waitress starts yelling at the other waitress about something or other and comes over and gives us water and buttered bread (I swear we got garlic bread at the Covington location?). She took our order and disappears...no one says a word to us for 30 minutes. No one asked if we wanted to order drinks and I sat there with butter on my hands because we had no napkins or utensils. I asked my husband to go grab utensils off the plethora of empty tables around us with utensils and a waiter who was just standing there sees us and asks us what we need. He says, ok, hang on, I'll get them for you and he just stands there. We are literally being passed with waitresses full of trays of utensils packs but he can't find them. He finally brings them over (and still no food, no drinks). The waitress whizzes by and says our food should be out in a couple minutes. Not so. However I do get watch the soap opera of Don's Wait staff as they yell at each other, hug each other, and act in the most unprofessional manner. My husband was annoyed and hungry so I was glad his back was to the "Young and the Useless" show behind him. There was also some drama at the bar with an older gentleman and a very young woman, so while I was hungry, I was highly entertained by the poop-show going on. We finally get our food and my husband finally gets to order his beer. We half-way through our meals and still no beer. No crowd at the bar which I can clearly see from my kitchen table. As we're finishing our food the waitress yells at another waitress, rubs to the bar, brings over a tiny beer and tells my husband she's sorry, she'll cover it. It's unfortunate because I'm a big believer in tipping wait staff a minimum of 20% and more if the service was really great. My husband was mad and it was reflected in the tip. I overheard one of the waiters complaining they weren't making money tonight. Hmmm, yeah, I should've took video so they could see why. Don's Hammond - Hire an adult manager to supervise. Teach your staff to be more professional and less emotional. Make it rule not to drop the F-bomb where customers can hear you. read more

Less than impressed, the shrimp Alfredo was basically white water with extremely overcooked pasta. No flavoring what so ever! My boyfriend did not enjoy his crawfish étouffée and said it was also watery and seemed like they "tried too hard". The best part of the visit was the server. She was pleasant and attentive. We might go here a few times a year. Tonight's visit was prompted by an email from Don's about 1/2 priced oysters. We thought it was about time for a visit. Sadly we were not as thrilled as in the past. The beers were good and 2 for 1. The charbroiled oysters were good, but small. We both ordered entrées that we've had before. The Crawfish Etouffee was good, but less creamy than usual and seemed like a smaller portion. They no longer have the Mahi Mahi dinner, which was my favorite. So, instead I went with the "catch of the day" grouper for a little over $20. It was about the size of tilapia you'd get prepackaged at the grocery store and thin. It was a little dry and a lot of salt seasoning on it. The vegetables were broccoli with onions and red bell pepper. They were fresh, not frozen. But, they were cut several days ago. The stems were brown. At least they were not hard or rubbery. The mashed potatoes were very good. Finally, we decided let's try desert. Well, that changed too. We ordered the hot fudge brownie. It was served in a large round glass, like we remembered. But, this time there was no whip cream on top. Then, it was chocolate syrup and the brownie was small and as hard as a brick. It was also maybe 1 inch thick. It seemed like it was the corner of the pan, the hard corner. When we tried to use our spoon to cut it, it took a lot of pressure...then the cut piece flew out the glass. The ice cream was good. We could clearly see they have had to make cut backs. It was not terrible, but not what we expected of Don's. It will be a while before we visit again. read more

No reviews? Well, it looks like my first, well first! On my continual tourist search for crawfish I was sent to Dons. This is your typical casual Louisiana dining establishment. Nice atmosphere but you can wear shorts and even laugh silly loud and no one will really care. My waiter rocked. Nice guy. I told him about my crawfish pursuit and he told me their bugs were not that good. I appreciate honesty. I ended up going with the fried catfish with crawfish etoufee topping and some white rice. I started with the hushpuppies. Overall a very good dish. Service was very nice and very quick. They are going through a renovation now so be prepared for the smell of fresh paint, etc. I enjoyed myself here and would head back the next time I was in Hammond for a few days. read more
