Went in here and waited while the lady to make sandwiches for another customer. It took a good 5 minutes, which was fine. The infuriating part was when she finished the other customers order, she proceeded to help someone else who came after us. Already feeling jipped, I begrudgingly ordered 2 large French vanilla coffees which were priced at $2.50 on the menu board. She charged me $3.50 for each and said the price went up. Worked down the street for years, I love this place, the two ladies that I see running it are so nice and friendly. The prices are absolutely amazing, and for a donut shop they have amazing sandwiches, and a cheap decent cup of coffee too. I tried these donuts this morning, because a coworker said they were the best! I came in and saw the incredible display. I haven't seen such great looking donuts since I worked in a shop when I was sixteen years old. When I said that out loud, Johnny introduced himself and said he's been baking them since 1985. He takes pride in his work. I asked what his favorite was and he said the crumb. I wanted to try the glazed twist and he suggested his other favorite the double chocolate. He confided it was his 2 pm snack each day as he rolled it over and showed me the bottom was not greasy, but a lite clean cake as it should be. I liked both as they were lite and fluffy and very tasty. Next time I will be back for the cinnamon roll. read more

I absolutely love stopping here. I never have trouble parking, the staff has fantastic customer service skills. And let's talk about the food! I usually order a ham and egg croissant. And it's perfection. Today I ordered the #17 with a coffee and some donut holes. I still have half my sandwich (it's a good size) but my donut holes are long gone (i took those out first. So yummy and fresh)! My guy is more of a specialty donut guy and got a cinnamon sugar crumble and he loved it. Today I had time to sit down and I can see they have tons of regulars and built up neighborhood repertoire. Awesome place all in all for a good breakfast/lunch stop. The donuts aren't always fresh but I do like their sandwiches. The only reason I'm giving them one stars and will no longer be coming here is because every single time I order a sandwich I have to remind them to wear gloves and even when they wear gloves they always reuse the same ones that they've worn the entire day. Just today I saw the lady making my sandwich, touching all the veggies and meat with her bare unwashed hands! The same hands I saw her handle money with beforehand. When I tried to tell her I wasn't going to purchase the sandwich due to this she just couldn't understand what the big deal was and got upset. Don't go here. Let me recount a funny little tale. I had been here before for a midnight craving for donuts, and they were alright, treated us okay, and the donuts weren't, you know, SPECTACULAR or anything, nor super cheap, but you know -- fixes the craving, I suppose. Now, why you shouldn't support this business: 24 hours ago I was commissioned to bake 200 cupcakes for a Neighborhood Council Election at East Hollywood. Oookay, 200 cupcakes. How the f*ck am I going to transport all that there? I didn't even have a cupcake carrier. So I get the idea of going to a donut store to buy off some boxes. They practically give those away, right? So after slaving away for literally six hours of solid baking, I walk over to good little Donut King and politely wait for my turn to talk to the donut lady. I ask her for a box, a big one, and she misunderstands me. Lady: *korean accent* oh twenteh fuhr? Me: No, no, no, I just want the box. Lady: Box??? Me: Yeah, just the box. I'd like to buy the box, please. Now keep in mind, near the entrance is this really creepy old guy with a hearing aid and a penchant to slightly sway. He doesn't really get my attention until later. Just wait. Lady: You want deh box?? Me: Yeah, I want a few big boxes. Lady: Oh I dun know. *looks perplexed at the box* I dun know how to price that. And I'm thinking, "Are you serious. It's a box. It's a f*cking pink cardboard box. How complicated can putting a PRICE on something people throw away daily be?" But I keep cool. I keep my head on straight. Lady: How much you buy for? Me: I don't know.. five for a dollar? Lady: Oh no no no... everything too expensive now. No shit, lady. Already I'm starting to get turned off, and in the background the old dude suddenly screams, "FUCKING SHIT" for NO good reason whatsoever. I look at him, arch my brow, look at her, and then ignore it. Whatever. Keep your eyes on the goal, Tina. Me: Alright. So how much do you want for them? This is such an open question. Any one with half a working brain could see this is an opportunity to gouge the price and capitalize on a desperate situation since I had to have those cupcakes delivered like in twenty minutes. But no. This is a really, really stupid person that's been put in charge of a donut shop. So she answers: "I don't think so." I arched my brow again. Was she serious. Was she seriously going to turn down my cash for a BOX, a freaking box? So I say back, "I just want the box. You can keep your product." And the the old guy starts cussing again. I get steamed and it's between the dumb Korean lady and the crazy Caucasian senior that I just go, "You know what, I'm going to go to ANOTHER donut shop and give them my money." The old insane guy goes, "GOOD!" But Yelpers, just so you know, I got the last word in. I turned to the guy as I left and said as I pointed at him, "Old dude, you're f*cking crazy." my best friend & I have been coming here for years for the Thai tea which is only about $1.80 for a medium size. I'm not too knowledgeable about donuts, since I'm not a huuuge fan or anything, but don't come in here expecting krispy kreme type of donuts. Honestly, all the donuts i've had that are NOT krispy kreme all pretty much taste the same to me. Anyhooos. We come here cuz it's really closeby to our house and my son wanted donuts one day and we decided to check it out. One downside is that they do only accept cash. But I think a lot of small businesses that don't sell pricey items are like this. Makes sense. However, they are ALWAYS open. I'm really quite amazed that the owner can open up shop waaayyyy early in the morning and still be open late at night. I almost always see her by herself in that shop, so I sympathize. The donuts are dirt cheap too! But then again, I don't know too much about donuts. But I think a dozen was only $6. I remember one time my son dropped his donut and she gave him another one for free and whenever we get the donut holes, she always gives us a few extra. It's really sweet and she seems like a really nice, hard working lady. FYI for those ignorant commentors on here, she is NOT korean. Kinda don't appreciate the remarks on her accent. Yes, it's hard to understand her but we're all trying to make a dollar here. Yah, ok..the donuts aren't GREAT, but idk wut ppl expect out of donuts that cost less than a dollar each. Geesh! There's so many donut shops around but this one the best one in LA! Before finding this gem, I would just get donuts close by in my area but now I always make the drive out to Donut King whenever I am craving donuts. My favorite donuts from here definitely have to be the donut holes and the classic glaze donuts. Not only are the donuts bomb dot com here, but the family that owns it are always so kind and generous. If you're ever in this area, please give this donut shop a try and I guarantee you won't regret it at all! The only downside about this donut shop is the parking. It is smaller and the parking lot gets pretty crowded since there are other shops and restaurants there too. Can't really expect too much I guess... I work in the general area so finding decent donut shops are litterally just around the corner... So what makes this one different? There's something about that coffee... They appearantly mixed 2 types of coffee beans, one for the robust taste, and one for the aroma, hm... interesting! If you go toward closing time, that's when they start hooking you up with specials. Back than before the economy turned, they were MUCH more flexible with how much freebies they gave. For example, 1 dz was $4 and they always gave the bakers dozen. Toward 6-7pm, you can get 6 donuts for $2!! I guess they don't do it soo much anymore, guess the sour economy's has hit them hard... =( I miss my $2 for 6!!! read more
