A great and unique kind of a donut shop, that has no store front, no display cases, no table and chairs, no advertisment sign, and nobody standing behind a cash register. The only way to get a hold of these triple D's, (delectable, decorated donuts) is through numerous food delivery services, or phone in, pick up only. Not knowing this, I was expecting an actual donut shop, I was taken back and confused, when finding myself standing in front of a colorful, no name, commercial building. One of the workers, (forgot his name) was really super nice and helpful. He explained to me how they operate, and even gave me a rare tour of the entire building. (see photo's) Turns out that this is a new concept in food services now. Instead of opening up a restaurant, you now have a large commercial building, housing many small kitchens in it. It's like a gated community for kitchens, and instead of a dining room, you have delivery service, convienently delivering to your front door. Whoever came up with this ideal, is a genius. Ok, getting back to the donuts. Their priced a little higher than your regular donut, but these are not your regular donuts, they are definitely high end donuts, super fresh, beautifully decorated, taste great, and they even come packaged in a high end style box. Gorgeously decorated, they can work with you for an event and customize them to your liking or you can have a DIY donut decorating party, which they are fabulous at setting up for you. Donut Princess hosted their first official pop-up at Arts District Brewery in LA and we decided to get our donut fix from them during the event. They were selling five flavors that night: glazed, cookies n' cream, white chocolate s'mores, arts district special, and spicy salted caramel bacon. I placed a last minute bouquet order for Valentines Day, and reached out to Mayly (who was on her way to an Uber event) regarding the flavors. She ensured me she'd confirm my order that night, as she was incredibly slammed for Vday. Mayly called me later that night, and we finalized the order for a bouquet to be delivered to my boyfriend's office. I emailed this place a few weeks before Valentine's Day to order a donut bouqet for my Husband. The girl who called me back, apparently the owner, was very sweet and helped me place my order. They're losing a star because they ran the credit card through square, which unfortunately emailed the receipt to my Husband, ruining the surprise. This wasn't exactly their fault but I emailed her to let her know that in the future, it would be good to warn people of this as I know many couples who both have a credit card on the same account and square will email one of them. Where they lose the star is that she never responded. No "thanks for letting me know," no "sorry it ruined the surprise," nothing. The presentation of the donut bouquet was adorable. I was first introduced them from attending a lot of events around LA and being amazed at the different fun creations they had. It is 2 days before Valentine's Day and me being a procrastinator, I decided to try and order a donut bouquet from her company to be delivered to my gf while she was working on location. With such a small window of time, I understood there was a chance that it wouldn't make the cut. After I submitted my request, I received a message from the Mayly, and she told me that their wouldn't be enough time to have it shipped and delivered by V-day, but she could get it done the day after. I love a themed party, so we sported UCLA colors, blue and gold. Of course, what kind of party would it be without donuts? Glazed ONUT: thought I knew what to expect but I was wrong, in a good way. The doughy layers make this Onut special. Flaky on the outside, doughy goodness on the inside. It was better after being warmed up in the oven. StrawBasic donut: probably will be one of my top favorites. I loved the amount of frosting- did not skimp out which I appreciated. I loved the basil bits and the basil wasn't too strong if that's what's keeping you from ordering this one. It was perfect. The donut itself is doughy which I like (not airy, not dry, not spongey). Ube Cake donut: I was a little disappointed with this one but can also see other people liking it. It had an old-fashioned donut taste, when I was hoping for more yam flavor (which I'm sure is hard to get). It was slightly drier than I prefer, but nothing abnormal compared to other donut shops. I do think choosing crumb toppings is the way to go. This will most likely be my default donut place. Even if it is pricey, a donut is a treat and if you're gonna treat yourself, you better do it right. There is a lot of different options to choose from. the only complaint I have, would be that I felt rushed to choose what I wanted. The order form allowed you to individually design each donut with options given on the website. This was an added bonus to me to actually pick what I knew she would love most. I was in contact with Mayly who was honestly really nice to deal with and she went out of her way to make sure the driver was at the correct location.
