So after having lunch with my granddaughters, it was requested that we try Donut Star Cafe for dessert. Both girls picked out the donuts we would share with mom and dad, and we took them home. After trying them, both girls pronounced the donuts "yummy!" A young man was there who served us promptly, and with a smile. The store is small, but nicely decorated. Clearly they enjoy a good reputation with the public because many of their donut trays were cleared out. Some of the valley's best donuts. A bit pricey, but good. They have what has been proclaimed as the best cronut in America by the Underground Donut Tour of 2023. At $4.50 a pop, I would believe it. I'm not a fan of the cronut. It's an underwhelming pastry. But Donut Star Cafe does it right. It's the first cronut I've ever tasted that made me say "I really like it!" All their other donuts are most excellent, too. Just a bit expensive. I'm on the quest to find a great donut here since moving to the valley. The best donuts on the planet were in Tucson where I lived for 14 years at K Donut Wheel on Wilmot. The best. The donuts here come 99% close. That's pretty good. But the prices make it difficult for me to return. I think I need to go back and try that cronut again to make sure it wasn't my imagination... :-) 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. The donuts are good and very fresh. They have a good variety if you go early enough. I like the raspberry filled, even though the powder will get EVERYWHERE no matter how careful you eat it. The Boston cream is ok, the custard wasn't my favorite and I'd pass on it next time. The blueberry cake donut is good and if you take it home and heat it for about 15-20 seconds it tastes amazing. One running the register, one preparing donuts in the back, and one trying not to fall asleep. I purchased some maple bars that were ok and a cheese and jalapeño bagel. To say this bagel was old and stale is not enough. It was rock hard, like break your teeth hard. Really disappointing all the way around. South Jordan location. My tastes are simple, and I love the simple excellence of a well-executed glazed doughnut. Donut Star's glazed doughnuts are perfect, and have been every time. They are the right blend of the more cake-like donuts of some local shops and the Krispy Kreme melt-in-your-mouth-the-second-it-hits variety. While I can appreciate both, Donut Star has the best donuts I've had since moving up to Salt Lake county. They also have the widest selection of doughnut holes I've ever seen in a locally-based doughnut shop. Donut Star usually has at least four to five varieties available. I've only tried the glazed (again, simple tastes), and they are also incredibly well-executed...the perfect bite-sized taste of heaven. The ambiance is pure doughnut shop, and includes a little area of displayed merch in the corner. The employees have also been knowledgeable and super friendly every time I've been there. Flies, flies, flies From the moment I first walked in I saw about two or three flies inside their donut case just crawling on all the donuts, pretty disgusting!
