Ok .... I was a bit surprise - spending $21 for a combo banh mi + a med ice Vietnamese coffee with foam is pretty $$. But I have to say, it was a a very good sandwich. The bread was soft and the liver pate had no after taste. Crunchy veggies too. The coffee def on the milder side but the flavor was a treat not overly sweet like most. My partner picked out the meatball while I ordered the tofu banh mi. There's also a wide range of assorted drinks (smoothies, Thai iced tea, etc) and other foods that look interesting but we were there fully for sandwiches. No lie, this is one of the BEST tofu banh mi sandwiches I've ever had. I actually thought I'd gotten my partner's beef/meat one because the tofu was thick and spongy and soaked in teriyaki sauce. It really had the texture and look of meat yet was absolutely delicious and packed full of flavour. I ate the entire sandwich without even slowing down, it was that good. The pickled veggies could be slightly more sour but that's not a deal breaker by any means. The donut selection looks amazing and I need to go back for one. read more

Eventually I selected these treats to take back to my hotel room for enjoyment later on. Let me tell you that these were DEFINITELY the best donuts I ever had....NO LIE. Literally my favorite donut place ever, in the history of ever. The ladies who run this place are boss. We used them as one of our wedding vendors for our Sunday brunch wedding. They informed us that they only need 1-2 day notice for our order. (Amazing!) We gave them a week notice just so it was less stress for us closer to the big day. We ordered: 12 dozen assorted donuts and 3 dozen donut holes. We've been there so often that she knows what we like but she wanted to make sure so she took notes as we went over the specifics in the order. He likes cruellers, I like cake sprinkles. We trusted them to pick the rest. Our friend picked up the morning of at 9am. Guests loved them! They were a popular coffee hour item and we got inquiries as to where they were from. I am very particular who I work with as a caterer and as a customer and I am so happy to have worked with them for our wedding. We will continue to be loyal customers. Donut shops also sell other food in SF to help pay the rent. This one does breakfast sandwiches and Vietnamese sandwiches. The owner pointed me to a new special, the Cambodian pork belly sandwich for $8.50 (I think). Curious, I took it home. Pork belly was delicious. Very good sandwich with a good amount of cold pickled carrots and radish. I think the greens are cilantro? And there are jalapeno peppers ok top. Tip: if you like some spicy food but not too spicy food, ask for less jalapeno peppers which go on most of the lunch sandwiches. I asked for less and it's a tolerable spice level for me, though my lips are still tingling 10 minutes after eating the sandwich. The jalapeno poppers are on top and the first thing that your mouth contacts. Very spice forward. read more

We came here today to pick up banh mi to bring along on a hike. The staff was super friendly and efficient in making our sandwiches. Fiancé tried the fish cake, I had the tofu. The fish cake banh mi was pretty good, although she wished there was more fish cake. The pickled veggies were pretty tasty on both sandwiches. My tofu banh mi was alright... I felt the bread was a bit dry and cut into the roof of my mouth. Also I would've liked more sauce and the tofu was nothing special. Adding avocado is a must for the tofu sandwich. We heard the lemongrass beef banh mi is their most popular so might try that when we come back. I would've given this place a 3.5 for food but rounding up to 4 for service. read more

The lemongrass steak is probably the best Vietnamese sandwich on the menu but costs a bit more, so I'll treat myself to that only once in awhile. I'll usually order the combo and that ends up being about $9 Bucks minus some change. The two main ladies who are at the counter are the nicest, pretty much calling you my dear every other sentence. I have a major sweet tooth and am very discerning about when I choose to indulge it due to weight loss goals. I bought a glazed and an apple fritter, originally only meant to try the glazed but the apple fritter looked near pornographic. My intent was to have a bite or two of each just to try them. I was able to do this with the glazed, it was a very good donut but nothing unbelievable. Airy and delicious. Now the apple fritter, that crushed my willpower. Just amazing, super crispy and delicious edges while still chewy and moist in the center. Each bite was my "last" until I pretty much devoured the thing. Had super low expectations when I walked into Donuts & Things with the purpose of just satisfying very maslowian needs of hunger. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the bahn mi is here. It's a sleepy and unassuming store. The one-woman-show behind the counter was really efficient despite doing everything from getting fresh donuts to the cases, taking orders, collecting payments, and making my Vietnamese sandwich. I got my default ham combo sandwich and it holds up to some of the perennial favorite spots in the city. Generous with the filling, this sandwich is shocked full of ingredients and the balance of flavor between the fatty meats and the pickled vegetables work well between fresh crusty bread that holds up well. All in, a well composed sandwich for under $5. Not really a fan of donuts but I saw folks twice ordering the maple-glazed stuffed one while waiting for my sandwich to be made. I love the people that work here, these women are such hard workers but no matter what's going on, they ALWAYS have #1 customer service and a genuine smile on their faces. I personally prefer their donuts to bob's, which are far too oily and greasy. Also, can't beat donut & thing's price! The Bahn mi is always delicious, and they always remember (no matter how much time has passed) that I want extra cilantro and jalapeño. To the previous yelper that questioned the pink dyed meat- it's char siu style meat! Almost all bahn mi meats look like that if it's prepared char siu style. And honestly, if you're expecting super top quality meat from this small business, go elsewhere. Personally wouldn't eat there in the store as it's usually filled with some old regulars, but there are two beautiful parks 4 blocks away in either direction to enjoy the sandwiches at.
