Best donut in the neighborhood! I finally tried this place after living here for months and was blown away by how nice this place is. They have everything between breakfast, dinner, scratch tickets, and cigarettes. Although I always get the donut and small coffee. Coffee is always hot and they give you napkins and a selection of creamer. Bob's has a slightly cheaper coffee donut combo but I honestly like the Happy Donuts donut way more. Again, I lucked into parking on the side street, and service was quick and efficient as the staff person filled a bag with deep fried delights. The bag contained a nice mix of fresh & tasty goodness. My only regret being that I was shy about taking images of their other savory menu options. I am not a doughnut person unless it is cream filled maple long johns from Giant Eagle, but I saw this deal on Too Good To Go and thought I would give it a try. I got a nice assortment of things including a custard filled maple longjohn. Now I am not into custard, but it was delicious and large enough to split. Supposedly the Too Good To Go stuff are leftovers from the day before. The doughnut we ate was fresh and yummy. The store itself was clean with a nice assortment of doughnuts. Be forewarned and remember to double check your receipt and ensure what you ordered matches up with what they charged you. We came by this morning as it was nearby our hotel to grab some donuts for my kids before we started our day. We ended up ordering a medium ice coffee ($3.50), a dozen regular donut holes ($3.50), a dozen chocolate donut holes ($3.95) and a dozen blueberry donut holes ($3.95). Tell me how we were charged over $22 for the above items! My friend already paid and tipped, but I confronted the clerk about the overcharge, he ends up re-ringing up the items and it came to about $16 (which was about the right price after taxes). He ended up giving us back $6.50 in cash for the overcharge. The donut holes were good and my kids enjoyed it. "These french toasts taste just like Nana Deedee's!" And he was right! One of the reasons Cody loves going to my mom's house is because she enjoys making a "special breakfast" for her grandkids. Her special breakfast includes french toast among other things, and my boys rave about them and how they are "made with love." Happy Donuts found a way to somehow provide a home cooked breakfast that tastes like it comes straight out of my mom's kitchen! I ordered their standard breakfast meal that included 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and 2 pieces of toast. The first bite of the hash browns took me back to when I was a boy eating hash browns made by my dad. Dad used to make breakfast for us each day before school. He'd peel and grate the potatoes that morning; none of that frozen hash brown stuff out of a bag. I loved how he made them, and Happy Donuts must do them the same way. On our way out Cody bought some donut holes and I ordered an apple fritter. The donut holes melted in my mouth and the apple fritter was delicious; crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. The fritter went well with my hazelnut coffee that was brewed fresh and without a Keurig. For the record, there are three observations I'll make about Happy Donuts, which in this particular instance is located on Van Ness and Pacific. 1. I like their Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches. Bacon/Ham (probably Sausage, too) Egg and Cheese, served quickly and actually quite tasty. The secret is that they grill the Croissant. This isn't a destination item, just an easy $6 Breakfast Sandwich in SF. I will get it again. 2. Man, they charge the Tax/CRV for Soda. You need to remember to bring 13 cents or something unless you don't want a morning of post Diet Coke jingling change. Weak. 3. Location. Nice and Convenient. On Van Ness and you could probably scam a quick park at the CVS lot across the street. Of course, I care about the environment, so I like that it's on several bus lines and on my walking commute. You won't be disappointed there, I assure you. Behold one experience that was so upsetting, I wish this page was claimed so they could relive my wrath: One morning I ordered their oatmeal, which comes served with raisins, brown sugar, and -- for reasons truly unbeknownst to me -- butter. I have never once lobbed a chunk of softened butter in my oatmeal, but this was somehow a recipe they found acceptable. Of course, I refused to order such an atrocious sounding instant breakfast, and I made it clear that I wanted only the raisins and a light serving of brown sugar. The oatmeal came served in a large coffee cup with a lid (I recommend this as a prank on your friends), which I carried with my cup of coffee to the office. Upon opening the lid of my oatmeal, I was met with the foul stench of buttery, watery oats. Before me lay a thick, frothy pool of butter, weaving about my oats, raisins, and significantly more sugar than I had requested. Overwhelmed by my frustrations, I slam-dunked the abomination into the garbage can, and I marched back to Happy Donuts to demand the oatmeal I had originally ordered. This next part is on me, but they did explain that they would have to see the oatmeal I had Lebronned into the garbage can before issuing a replacement or a refund. However, I was not having it at the time because their staff had made that buttery disgrace of a breakfast 10 minutes prior. I felt that this shameful memory was still potent among the staff of Happy Donuts, such that I wouldn't have to provide proof about how odiously they ruined my morning. Nevertheless, I refused to make another trip back and forth. I left them with an everlasting scowl that I hope haunts their dreams, and returned to work posthaste. I would eventually return here and there for a cup of coffee, for it's true that in that patch of Van Ness, this is the quickest and least expensive coffee you'll find. But this incident, henceforth known as The Oatmeal Incident, forever leaves me terribly unhappy with Happy Donuts. read more

Alas, I came here for coffee and a donut before my shift at work, to enjoy sitting and sipping by myself. First off, you can't go THAT wrong with coffee and donuts. So lets backtrack, i recently lost my wallet (thank god for that human who mailed it to me) and anywho got a new bank card in the mail. I WALK INTO HAPPY DONUT, hoping to order a rice dish because I'm super hungry going from my first job to my second job ughhhh. My phone is dead and i need to activate my card. So i asked if i could charge my phone to activate my bank card so i can purchase food. So it was a back and forth thing of trying to explain as best i can, the guy behind the counter said "okay fine, charger is by the trashcan". HOWEVER THE GRANDMOTHER was super rude, yelled at me and was like she refuses service to me and i need to get out.
