I've been here twice and had positive experiences both times. Both times staff was friendly and attentive. Very clean, well stocked bar, muddled old fashioned's, and ice cold beer. My family and I have been coming to Door County for 20+ years and even though we have our "favorites", we always struggle to find something new that isn't fast food or a bar or too kid-friendly but still decent and affordable. I came here recently with my boyfriend because it came highly recommended by the hotel staff where we were staying. It was also after 9pm and your dining options are somewhat limited after prime dinner time. I had the Friday haddock fish special and it was delicious!! 4 big pieces of fish (tasted fresh, not frozen or mass produced) with cole slaw and side (I had au gratin potatoes which were extremely cheesy!!) for $12.50. He had a black and bleu burger that proved to be very good! I know he really liked his stout/porter beer flight of locally made beers. When I come back to Door County with my family, this will be a place to return to! read more

Summary: this place was *not* swamped on July the fifth, which I was thankful for, but it probably deserved to be full. Very good food. There may be someone with a 1-star review about how they never got served. I'm 90% sure that person went to the bar then sat down at an isolated table without telling anyone (there is a 'please wait to be seated' sign). I hope the owner reads this, because whoever buys or makes the bread deserves a raise. My cubano was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten, especially because of the bread. It was a thin and crispy and the mustard only managed to make about one nanometer of the crust soggy. It was like savory, thick cherry turnover crust. Good service even though it was about to close. They did us the courtesy of bringing our green beans directly out of the fryer, which was a great gesture after we'd gone to three restaurants with wait times over an hour. We stopped in for a late lunch this afternoon. No wait at all and we were seated right away. They have both bar seating with local sports on multiple TVs or they've also got table seating. My boyfriend and I ordered their walleye plate (the half plate) and the fish tacos. I thought the fish on the fish tacos were a little too heavily seasoned for my taste and the chips had a little too much salt on them. The tacos were ok in my opinion. The walleye plate came with a choice of sides my boyfriend chose the mashed potatoes and he had the wall eye pan seared. The wall eye was pretty good with the tartar sauce and very well cooked. The mashed potatoes were out of this world. We both really loved those. The gravy they use is so delicious! Overall a nice place for lunch. We checked in at 6 and were told it would be a 30 minute wait for our food. Turned out it was more like an hour wait after we were seated. Lack of leadership for those working. Food was over done. Overall it was the worst culinary experience I have endured in a long time. We should have been like the table next to us that left after sitting there for 30 minutes with out being waited on I would not recommend this place under any circumstances. Not a great experience. My wife's drink was described as ice water vs the Mojito that she ordered. My dinner order was placed incorrectly, but we were tired of waiting so I ate most of it. We went for lunch and service was friendly, maybe could have been a little quicker but we understand the constant staffing needs. Very disappointed. It was relatively busy, but seated immediately by a hostess which was a good sign. The last good sign. It took about 10+ minutes to be acknowledged by a waitress and by that time we were ready with our drink and food order. It took about 30 minutes for the first of our food to come out, but after another 10 minutes I needed to ask about my sons chicken tender basket. I ordered the poutine, which I was pretty excited about. Sadly it was really just an order of fries with an order of fried cheese curds an not much more than a drizzle of some sort of store-bought chicken gravy. It was also cold and nothing was crispy. I sent it back(which I never do) and within a couple minutes a piping hot and crispy one came out. It had a little more gravy, but still pretty tasteless. The fire house decor was neat, but we heard at least two other tables having similar issues, one stormed out. Keep in mind I was hear a few years ago and it was great and was excited to come back, perhaps that amplified my disappointment. Drove up from Algoma tonight. I ordered the Sunday chicken special but they were out by 6pm. I then ordered the steak cooked medium. My food came and when I cut into it it was very well done. The waitress who was lovely came to check on us about 15 minutes after being served. Told her my steak was way over cooked. She apologized and spoke to the owner who said he would adjust the bill. The bill came with 10% off my $29 steak. A piece of meat I could barely cut let alone eat. We have been frequent customers in the past. Not anymore. The only winners tonight were my dogs read more

I wasn't really sure what I was getting into. We went on a whim so I didn't do any research. I thought it was a restaurant but.... I would have to say it's more of a bar that serves food. I'm not saying that's bad just giving my impression of the place. When you walk in its clean. There's a hostest stand so that's pretty resturanty. They seat you and give you menus. The service was very good. It was past noon and not many people in the place so there really wouldn't be a reason to wait for anything anyway. Had a burger with everything on it. It was cooked great and very tasty. Could have used a bit more seasoning but that could just be me. It was very messy and I went the knife and fork route. Overall probably a 3.5 from me - solid, not remarkable but not regrettable either. We had lunch here as a second choice - our plan was to go to Red Room but alas they were closed on a Sunday afternoon. DCF looked nice, so we thought "why not?" The interior has some firehouse photos and a bit of memorabilia but otherwise is your standard sports bar/grille set up. Big TV's over the bar (tuned to women's basketball and nascar when we were there, wtf?) mean it's a good place to watch the game and have a bite and a drink. They bill themselves as an "ale house" so expect a decent choice of mostly local-ish micros on tap. The menu is fairly standard too - burgers, sandwiches, a few salads - nothing too wild but enough variety that most people will be happy. I opted for their version of the French dip and was pleasantly surprised. They used a great crusty roll and the meat wasn't gristly or fatty - would definitely order again. The Mister had the Foghorn burger which included a bunch of toppings like BBQ sauce and a giant onion ring - he liked it. Sandwiches don't come with sides so add $2-3 to the price depending on what you want. Skip the fries, they're the crappy crinkle cut Sysco bag ones. Overall value was so/so - my sandwich was $11 + $2 for fries which is a bit spendy IMO. Service was "ok" - the beer menu advertised guest taps but we were never told what those were and I had ordered a side that was missed. Not a big deal in the overall I guess. It was a fine place for lunch and I'd come back if someone else wanted to but it probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Originally planned on just stopping in to listen to music but ended up ordering a drink (island orchard cider) yum! and some really great chili. I thought ordering the chili it would be a good size bowl but this bowl was like the size of my head. Which I should really not complain about but I am not a big eater so 1/4 of this went to waste. I loved the richness with the beans of the chili and the homemade chips that I could use to scoop up the chili. Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday when we were in a time crunch. We had tried to go to a popular restaurant across the bridge but there was a wait and we had an appointment scheduled. Walked in and there were barely any people inside so we were seated right away, but rather slowly as the staff was just hanging out behind the bar. We ordered cheese curds, a club sandwich, and Cobb salad. The food came out timely. The cheese curds were probably the best part of the meal, everything else seemed kind of blah and was nothing special. Glad they were open today, many other places have signs showing only open Sunday-Thursday. outdoor seating was available though we chose to eat inside. This old fire station has been very nicely turned into a pub that pays homage to its roots. There were very few people dining today in general. Guess everyone is headed home. 2 local brews were cold and good, the fettuccine Alfredo with Italian sausage made our teenager happy. The siren and black n blue burgers were also good. Super fresh and hot out of the kitchen! We then got the fish and chips...the fish was decent. The breading was a little less flaky and thin than we had been expecting. But overall was a tasty dish. The Ruben was the other entree. Very good. And it made amazing leftovers the next day also! The French fries were great. Seasoned really well and nice and thick. Went here after reading the reviews and looking at the menus posted and was really excited to eat here. I normally only post great reviews but this is the opposite. Walked in and was greeted by a nice young man. Asked for kids menus and he informs us that it is a limited menu for the kids. Explains the options and we are fine with that and are seated. The menus he gave us were limited as well. About a 1/3rd the options than what was posted here on Yelp. Waitress arrives and tell us even more of the options on this already limited menu aren't available for the evening. Usually then I leave but having two hungry kids with us isn't an option. Order our drinks and an appetizer. Drinks come out quickly but an appetizer of basically mozzarella sticks takes a good twenty minutes. Mozzarella stickers were supposed to be wrapped in wonton wrappers but was hard to determine if they were just battered. Either way, 6 mozzarella sticks for $9, nothing great just not a value in my eyes. We over heard a waitress at the bar say, "I'm not even sure why we are opened" and we were sure it was because of the lack of options for food. Ordered a kids pizza and kids chicken tenders, a 12" meat lovers pizza and a Caesar salad with chicken for our meals. Kids meals were decent size and they ate them well. 12"pizza was fair with toppings, crust was something that was pre made, not from scratch but was edible. The chicken Caesar came out with what was maybe half of a fried chicken tender chopped up as the chicken add on which was over cooked and dry. $6 for a half of a chicken tender? Come on. Salad wasn't all that good to write home about. Bill with tip comes to about $90. Shame because this place has potential and seen a now hiring sign in the window so they may be short handed in the kitchen but if that's the case close down till you get some help instead of running half menus and the sort. read more
