SEPTEMBER 5, 2023 UPDATE OF 11/30/2022 POST Now that I have been enjoying my additional eighteen (18) interior doors that I purchased from Doors for Builders, I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to update my 2022 post. Below are some photos showing a few of my Doors for Builders interior hall doors (and trim), the closet sliding doors and the depth of the interior doors. Unlike inexpensive doors that one might buy from another company, these are heavy, solid and thick doors manufactured in Europe - amazing quality! Just like the first eight (8) doors I purchased from, and had installed by, Doors for Builders, my experience dealing with Daniel was excellent from the ordering process to the install completion. From start to finish, Daniel made sure that any and all of my possible concerns were addressed to my satisfaction. His customer service is beyond reproach. It was our pleasure to work with Daniel! I was very pleased that Daniel chose Lukasz to install my doors. Lukasz has a strong work ethic of which Doors for Builders can be proud. Lukasz arrived in a timely manner and stayed as long as was needed to appropriately accomplish the installation of so many doors. Lukasz is a skilled, exemplary craftsman who made sure that every detail of door and hardware installation was completed to perfection. Over the years, my floors had shifted, so some of my old doors were difficult to open/close. Lukasz made the effort and spent the time to carefully install each of the new doors precisely level - no shortcuts from Lukasz! It is wonderful to be able to now have doors that open/close in such a smooth manner. Also, Lukasz continually cleaned up any and all debris that occurred during the installation. Words cannot express how much I am enjoying all twenty-six (26) attractive Doors for Builders' exterior and interior doors that are now in my home. I continue to receive complimentary comments from everyone who visits. I had most of my home remodeled recently, and these doors added the elegant finishing touch to my home's appearance! My husband and I are very pleased customers of Doors for Builders and will continue to be happy to recommend them without hesitation. I see some had a bad experience, however, we did not! We have a newer custom home that I built myself. We reclaimed a solid wood door that weighed almost 300 pounds. After a few years of kids slamming the door we developed cracks. Big cracks! We searched for a long time for a door manufacture. We knew it would be expensive because we literally built our opening around the reclaimed door. We went a few more years, purchased a custom screen door for $3800, and then went a few more years. Finally, this year I had enough with the cold air coming into the house. I previously corresponded with Sandra when I was looking for a custom door and she provided a rough estimate. Two years had passed and I called her up and was ready to move forward. Sandra explained every option to us and PROs and CONS. I was so excited, I scheduled another appointment to have my wife with me. We only needed an hour to pick our door, the finish, and the hardware. And yes, it is expensive! It's a custom measure and fabricated door. I paid to have them install the door. Sandra gave us all the information on how our warranty works, how to best care for the door, information on adding the screen back (which we tried and it did look good and didn't really work), and how the sun could potential effect the door. We understood all of this. The door took a long time to come in 5-6 months. A little aggravating, but not unbearable. For $10K, we wanted the door to be right. The install was excellent! The touch-up crew was fantastic! And well, the door is amazing! Two issues for us, walking around the back area shop can be overwhelming:). And we don't have other doors that need replacing because I would do the process again! read more

We purchased our entrance door from Doors for Builders about 7 yrs ago. Our total cost for the door and sidelights was over $8,000. Today there are multiple horizontal cracks in the door and on the sidelights both inside and outside.The door is covered by an entryway roof. When I called Doors for Builders they said, "not covered and no solution". My advice is to stay away from Doors for Builders. They are not a reputable company and they don't stand behind their products. read more

We just purchased entrance door from the "Doors for Builders". They were highly recommended by one of the top Chicago luxury home builders, we happened to know. He was doing business with them for many years and based on his word, always had positive experience. In the show room we were helped by very knowledgeable and patient sales advisor Sandra Boltryk. She took her time to educate us about product line, company offers. Because of her explanations we were able to confidently choose the right style and color of the door and the door lock style. The whole experience feels more as a helpful educational session. We choose the stock door style, which is available in the time frame of 2 weeks, and totally serves our needs and likes. We are also choose to use our own installer, but they are also offering installation if needed. So far we are ( Fool disclosure "We" means myself and my wife ) very satisfied with the service we received and quality of the door, we purchased. read more

I unfortunately had the same experience as reviewers Joan M and A A described. I was bold faced lied to by Sandra during the sales process and they do not stand behind their work. They told me my door would work well in the installation area, but I had daylight around the door around the one year mark. This is a for a $5,000 custom door. After I filed a complaint they begrudgingly made a few minor repairs, but said they would make no more. Do not give your money to these people. read more

Do not buy these doors if you want it to arrive in good condition. And if you expect customer service to deal with the damage, don't deal with Doors for Builders. Our door arrived split right down the centre of the panel below the window in a very easy to notice spot. We had high hopes for this door. Prior to ordering I ensured they knew the door was coming to a cold climate. I was assured the doors are installed all over Chicago. I also asked about shipping and I was assured they ship these dooors all the time. Our door arrived and as soon as we unpacked it we saw there was some minor damage to the edges of the door. We were disappointed and immediately messaged Doors for Builders. They told us to finish unpacking the door. When we finished unpacking the door we noticed the front panel just below the window was cracked about 5 inches long. We sent photos and were told they would most likely replace the slab door. They were going to have their "service department" deal with the issue. Since their service department has been involved they have told us they would not replace the cracked door and as a gesture they would help us try to repair the damage. We did not buy a damaged/repaired door. We bought a new door. We have been told by Doors for Builders that warranty point 18 applies which refers to UNFINISHED products. We told them we bought a PRE-FINISHED door. She then acknowledged the door is pre finished but it's unfinisbed on the inside of the door (I have never hears anything so ludicrous). Every single prefinished wood item is unfinished internally. It doesn't mean they can apply an unfinished wood warranty to a prefinished door. I feel very disappointed and had such high hopes for our door. By the time we shipped it to Canada it cost us $12,000. We now have a damaged door that the company will not stand behind. Go somewhere else, to a company that will honour the quality of their products. read more

We really can't say enough positive things about our experience there. Not really sure if it's their business culture, or the individual we worked with (but they usually go hand in hand)--regardless, everybody seemed super chill. The place is no-frills (which we liked), consisting of an ample showroom and inventory--but above all most noteworthy was the service. Went there 3 times in a span of a week and each time we were met w/ the upmost professionalism, patience, and advice until we were satisfied and made our purchase. A young lady named Sandra worked w/us and was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of her industry--from design, to build, to install, but most impressive was her no-nonsense approach toward helping us hone in on that which would best suit our needs. We just replaced our front door with a Doors for Builders door, we could not be happier with our decision. The door is extremely high quality and everyone was really helpful throughout the entire process. We went to their showroom, picked out our door/hardware, they came out and measured and it was in stock and installed shortly after picking it out. I came home from work after installation and couldn't tell anyone was was at our house...except for our new door! They replaced our interior trim and hauled our old door away. We just purchsed a beautiful door from doors for builders for a total of $7,995.89, in my world, an absolute splurge. It came with some slight damage. We followed the EXACT procedure demanded by DFB required. Took time off of work, had proper men to unload, documented photos and damage on bill of lading, reported all of this in the time required. The company responded by calling us liars. I am appalled and will NEVER do business with this company again and will do what I can to ensure other people understand who they are spending their hard earned money with before they hand it over to such dishonest people. We had a home visit to assure door was ok for area to be installed. There is a overhang . The door has now cracked 4 times the last fix just lasting a few days . The more people I talk to the more common I hear this is a common issue with there doors .Going to court to recoup the cost of this door is our only option at this point I have already taken 8 days off work for removal and install. Doors for Builders has been around for a decade and we always drive by their showroom in Elk Grove Village and finally stopped in when the big box just didn't come close to what we were after. We were building a new home and didn't want to put up just any old steel door the builder suggested. We also visited competitors in Indiana and no one came close to the professional staff and offerings on their showroom floor. We ended up purchasing a brand new entry door and it was some of the best quality I have ever seen. Like a piece of art. We went custom because we wanted some specific hand carvings and they are able to execute it just off a quick sketch. No contest on quality and craftsmanship.
