We've tried Doppio Zero twice in the last month and have been pleasantly surprised both times. Our first time was an off-night with maybe 25% capacity while the second night was 100% capacity, but both times we had a friendly greeting and were promptly seated (we had made reservations). I believe we had the same server both times - an older Italian gentleman who was very attentive and seemed to have seniority or management of the other servers. Both times we ordered pastas which seem to be made in-house; the pasta options are generally unique, like pork (not beef) ragu and squid ink tagliolini. Our favorite Italian restaurant used to be Luna in downtown Concord but we had too many experiences with horrible service; I'm glad we found Doppio Zero and it is our new go-to for Italian. P.s. I recently had lunch at Doppio Zero in Concord at The Veranda. The food and service were great and I look forward to trying more of the menu. That said, this is the second restaurant I have recently eaten at that had incredibly uncomfortable narrow metal chairs. I truly don't understand the decision behind the insufferable seating. While I loved the food, the fact that what comes to mind most about this restaurant is the horrible chairs is why my 4-star rating is for the food; I took off one star for the metal chairs. I hope management will reconsider such awful seating. read more

On Saturday, we came here for a Mother's Day lunch and were quite disappointed. The pizza we ordered was just ok. We told the waiter we wanted to share it and he said it's just for one person. The food here is spectacular!! This new restaurant deserves more reviews for sure. Came here around 4:20 ,there really wasn't many people so we were graciously served & treated by the chef! Ordered the brussel sprouts and shishito peppers for the appetizers, the brussels were great, but I thought the peppers could have used some more sea salt. For the entrees, we ordered the ravioli, tomato pasta, oxtail pasta, and a medium steak & fries. The clear star of the show was the oxtail pasta and ravioli. For those who love spinach and mushroom, the ravioli is perfect! But I also love how skinny the fries are as well. The chef gave us a free tiramisu that was amazing! It's difficult to execute tiramisu but this one was very airy and fresh, one of the best I've ever had. All in all a great experience! read more

Last night my party of 2 comes in during dinner rush. The hostess was so INCREDIBLY RUDE and made it so that we felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable. Maybe she had a bad day but this specific hostess looked me up and down then acted like I wasn't good enough to eat at this restaurant. She was hesitant to put my party on the waitlist and we never actually got a notification for the table being ready after 2+ hours of waiting when she said it would only be a 35 minute wait. We went to celebrate my teen's birthday. We were seated quickly. They were prompt to take the order and the food came out quickly. The wine we chose was ok, but that's not on the restaurant. The pizza was absolutely delicious... as was the lasagna. I didn't try it but the kids loved their pasta. We ordered all kinds of dessert - tiramisu, cannoli, chocolate cake. All of them were good. We decided to try this place on a busy Friday evening around 5:45. The Veranda was insanely busy and there was a wait at Mikuni & Yard House. I saw this was a new place on Yelp and checked to see if there was a wait and there wasn't. We ate outside though inside was available. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We weren't too hungry but wanted a light meal to share so we could catch up. We ended up getting the calamari (the menu said calamari & shrimp but there was no shrimp) I just realized that writing this review, and the Doppio Zero pizza with prosciutto, burrata cheese, arugula, Parmesan cheese. Overall the food was good but not great. I think the pizza lacked some kind of sauce. It was supposed to have a white sauce (I think) but it seemed dry and lacking sauce. The calamari had no shrimp which was weird. The marinara sauce didn't seem to fit, I wanted tartar sauce instead. It also had a weird aftertaste and I can't pinpoint what it was. Overall the food was okay but nothing drew me in. Maybe I need to try an entree? What we did have I think I could do without having again. read more

It's a nice looking restaurant in a great location and looked very inviting. However the food was disappointing. I had the fettuccini with short ribs. It resembled Sunday dinner's roast beef left overs with fettuccine noodles added as an afterthought. The service went down hill as our meal continued. Our server had no personality and she did not crack a smile our entire stay. I asked for a glass of ice to refresh my glass of water but it never got served . A friend had the fried calzone. The crust was good but the inside was runny with what appeared to be some white cheese resembling cottage cheese. It did not look appetizing. Doppio zero is simply the closest authentic Napoli style pizza we can get without actually going to Italy. My personal favorite pizza is their signature Doppio Zero. And I absolutely love their marechiarro pasta. I've had the same dishes in other Italian restaurants. All I can say is, I am only 100% satisfied when I get them at Doppio Zero. Been here a bunch of times, we always have enjoyed the food. Unfortunately we keep getting waiters and waitresses who aren't great. Service is slow and they do some weird things. Recently the restaurant switched to a system where you pay at the table electronically. The waiter ends up standing there and will watch as you select the tip. Pretty uncomfortable feeling pressured to tip them well when the service is spotty. I don't think we will come back after tonight as our guy promptly took our apps order and then forgot about us for 45 mins. By then we didn't have much desire to order entrees read more

I had my hopes up for this restaurant based on their menu and their "Michelin" status. There is so much potential, but sadly, they just couldn't deliver on that promise. The potato croquettes (starter) were small. I expected something different. They were crunchy on the outside but the middles were wet, not what I expected. Not much flavor either. The brussel sprouts were tasty with the bacon pieces, but they were barely warm and the texture was as if they had been previously cooked and then reheated. The margerita pizza was ok but the cheese slid off the pizza (the tomato sauce was wet), the dough was very thin in the center and very thick on the edges. We got panna cotta for dessert and I didn't know what to expect (my first time having it), but found it strange - it was barely sweet, there was a bite or two that were actually sour, the creamy part was rubbery on the top and edges, and the berry topping was almost sour. We shared our impressions with the waiter when he asked how it was and I suggested someone actually eat it in case it wasn't right. I won't be returning. read more

Nice Italian restaurant in the Veranda Luxe area in Concord. We had their deep fried calamari and shrimp and also their grilled octopus for appetizers. For the main courses, we had the branzino fillet and also the margherita pizza with anchovies. The calamari and shrimp were excellent. Nice batter and very juicy meat with both seafoods. It was served with a lemon wedge, tartar sauce, and marinara sauce. Both sauces complemented the meal magnificently. For our other appetizer, we ate the grilled octopus. It was excellent. The octopus was tender and very flavorful. It was served with a salad and a sauce. They both added a wonderful flavor to the octopus. The branzino is their sea bass fillet. It was served with clams, asparagus, and shrimp. The fish was good. It was cooked well and had a nice flavor. The clams were tasty. The shrimp was good as well. The asparagus gave the dish its vegetable element. It was cooked nicely. We also ate Margherita pizza with anchovies. It was cooked perfectly in a stone oven. Loved the crust, which was crunchy outside and soft inside. The cheese and sauce were tasty. They held well on the crust. The anchovies were an excellent addition to the pie. Loved the saltiness of the fish. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. He made sure our visit was very pleasant. He recommended the branzino fillet and we were very grateful for it. First time eating here, lunch on a Saturday around 12:30. Read good things and had high hopes, but we were somewhat disappointed. Pros: -Wife liked her Trecciolina salad with shrimp added, but it was small for the price; not an entree salad at all. - Nice outdoor seating near the Veranda fountains. Cons: - Ragu pasta dish was just OK. Pasta was cooked well but the sauce lacked "punch"- some red pepper flakes or something would have helped. Honestly, I make a much better pork ragu at home using pork shoulder, hot italian sausage and pancetta. - Sfizio Taralli appetizer was a waste of money. Little pretzels, like a heavier version of breadsticks, with some marinara on the side. Not flavorful at all, and after we ordered we found out we could have had complementary bread with olive oil and balsamic. The free bread was not advertised on the menu, it had to be specifically requested. Waste of $6. - Service was very spotty. Waiter was polite but took a long time to get anything. No parm or cracked pepper was offered. - Poor value. Quality and portions were not worth it. Verdict: - We may go back to try a pizza some day, not sure. Definitely not a destination spot, though, and overall it's probably a pass. read more

3 stars means A-OK. I was pretty excited to try this place after reading about it. That of course means I was bound to be a bit disappointed. First though, let me rave about the service. All the servers were spot on. Our waitress especially was friendly and helpful. The other servers who came by to refill our water and take away our plates almost as soon as they were emptied were crazy efficient. So for service, kudos! 5 stars. We ate in the outdoor patio area, which was massive and well shaded. Being a new restaurant, it was very modern and trendy. Great atmosphere. Now, to the disappointing part -- the food. But first let me preface by saying that I like very flavorful foods. I think this DZ offers more subtle flavors that my palette doesn't fully appreciate. We started with the Trecciolina salad. It was fine but bland. I'm not a big salad fan in general, but after reading the rave reviews from their other locations and seeing that it was dressed with "lemon avocado vinaigrette," which sounded interesting, I decided to give it a try. Even though I could see an oily sheen covering everything, I tasted nothing that could have been described as vinaigrette. No lemony flavor, let alone avocado. No vinegar that I could tell either. I'm not saying this was a bad salad by any means. The ingredients that were there seemed to be great quality. If you're the kind of person that loves salads for the sake of the vegetables and not the dressing, then this might be for you. Next we had the manila clams in broth with chorizo. We have a penchant for clams (or mussels) in broth. Normally the broth is the best part. But the broth here was literally inedible. It was so incredibly salty. Like they dumped half a shaker of salt in it. This surely was a mistake on the chef's part because I can't imagine any recipe that would knowingly create such an unbearable salty flavor. This was the most disappointing part of our meal. The clams and chorizo themselves were NOT overly salty so we were still able to eat those. However, this was not a good mix. The clams were tiny, many of them dime sized. So there wasn't much of that clam flavor. To throw in something as strongly flavored as chorizo into the mix meant that it completely overpowered what little clammy goodness was there to begin with. Flavor-wise, this was basically chorizo in salt broth with small bits of actual clam meat, and lots of clam shells thrown in for visual effect. I think this was a failure both recipe-wise as well as execution. Because of this dish, I had to minus a star. Otherwise this would've been a 4-star review. Next was the octopus appetizer. This was the best thing we had. The octopus was meaty and well cooked. Nice chew without being tough. It was served on a bed of arugula and tomatoes, along with the wedge of lemon. (Ah, lemon! Where were you during the Trecciolina salad?) The menu states "anchovy" dressing, and again, I didn't taste any dressing. At this point, I feel they're just throwing words in their menu. Finally, the main dish. What DZ is known for. Their pizza! We ordered the Salsiccia red pizza. Now, we eat a LOT of pizza, even traveling to SF to get some. And I have to say the pizza we had at DZ was very unmemorable. The toppings were all right. The tomato sauce was sparse, but that's pretty typical of this type of pizza. However, it was also pretty bland. And the dough -- no flavor at all, other than the lightly charred bits which did offer a good char flavor. We've had way more tasty pizza (and that includes from another local authentic Italian restaurant). The single question that always sums up whether a meal gets a thumbs up or down is: Was it worth the calories? And regrettably, the answer is no. Having said that, I would not discourage anybody from giving this place a try. Stay away from the clams w/ chorizo if you're in the mood for actual clams, but otherwise go wild and form your own opinion. This is a lovely new restaurant with stellar customer service. The prices are pretty reasonable and although my taste buds may not fully appreciate it, the quality of the ingredients is there. I can totally imagine somebody else eating the same same dishes and absolutely loving them (except for the clams). read more

This is one of my top favorite places to eat in SF. Their oxtail pasta is to die for, and their Doppio Zero pizza (proscuitto, the freshest buratta ever, Argula) is equally as amazing and even better when you dip it in the leftover oxtail sauce if there's any left. The Brussels sprouts are delicious as well. Everytime I come back I end up getting the same thing, but I'm sure everything else they have on the menu is equally as delicious. read more

Ragu was mediocre at best, certainly nothing to brag about however believe it or not, the cream sauce on the Ravioli was curdled. How in the heck would any restaurant cook, allow something like that to leave the kitchen and how could a wait person even serve it. Disgusting. The manager did not listen. We had a party of nine and the service was horrible. The octopus was fishy and tough. They returned to kitchen but still charged us for it. All requests were ignored and communication was the worst I've ever experienced. For this reason this place failed miserably. I will never recommend a place with such bad management and communication between the staff and the customer. They advertise a Michelin star, this restaurant does not have one. We had over a $600.00 bill and the staff did not even provide proper service to the table, we felt ignored.on top of it , they served one slice of cake with two candles, NO FORKS! We had to ask about the rest of the cake , they served it ten minutes later and was rude about it. What a horrible birthday experience for me and my sister. read more

This is the place to go for a delicious Italian meal. The wait staff was very friendly and the pizza was a generous size. I got a Margherita pizza and added prosciutto. The crust was chewy on the outside and because it was so thin it got soggy in the middle but that is just the style of pizza it is. Not a complaint. I came in thinking I was going to order the seafood in red sauce, but then I saw the waiter bring someone else their pizza and changed my mind. We also devoured a plate of calamari, truffle fries, bread and oil, and my husband got the steak. We left very full and happy. Highly recommend all of the things that I ordered. read more

The homies and I came here for a Saturday dinner and it was our first time eating at this establishment. After we were seated, it took over 25 minutes for us to have a waitress take our order. When we received our food, it was very...mid. The fried calamari and shrimp portions were small and too salty to where you could not taste the actual seafood flavor. Also, we only received three pieces of shrimp. The pizza, though flavorful, was extremely soggy and greasy. We could not grab a slice of pizza without having the cheese and toppings fall right off. The "La Carne" pizza was pretty light on the meat as well. We did not really receive much service until toward the end when the waitresses were going to hand the bill. At least they put Gordon Ramsay on the big screen. Other than that, I don't think we'll be coming back. read more
