Tucked away from FM 417, north of Castroville, lies Dorn Michelle's. It's easy to miss from the road as the restaurant appears as only an old house at first glance. With its homey charm inside, the relaxed atmosphere outside, and the friendly service; it is a nice place to unwind and enjoy a peaceful lunch. The menu has a variety of German, some Texas twists and Asian dishes to choose from. The chef is the son of the owner and does his own research for interesting recipes ideas. Most are a hit. Can't go wrong with the ceviche or rangoons to start off and to get the taste buds going. The Firecracker Chicken is one of my favorites so far, if you want an Asian dish with a kick to it. The NY steaks are good when prepared med rare and the schnitzel with red cabbage and potatoes were delightful. If you want a real treat though, go with the pepperjack smothered chop and you can Danke schön me later. Gotta save some room for desert, because the pineapple cheesecake with habanero sauce is unreal. When I'm acting bad as I often do, I go with the Belgian waffle with a scoop of ice cream. The waffle tastes like the authentic ones you order in Europe made with real Danish cookie dough, or least it appears so to me.

Service was great. The aroma is very nice. The food is delicious. Probably the best orange chicken I've ever had anywhere and it's not even a Chinese restaurant. They play really nice music. It's not so loud and the waitress was very nice Highly recommend going to this place, especially for a date spot or some kind of special occasion

Such a cute little gem outside the bustling city. Can't wait for cooler weather to enjoy the patio and sunsets. Staff were great and helpful.

Where are we? Way out in the middle of nowhere, that's where. Dorn Michelle's is located in a renovated farm house closer around Rio Medina just north of Castroville. We stopped in for Saturday lunch, meeting up with family coming in from all directions. Table of 7. I had Trout. Hubby had Shrimp. Ended the meal with Roasted Pineapple Cheesecake, that I shared with the table. Delicious and rich. Service is excellent. Kitchen is slow... and they weren't busy. Kitchen is also located in a separate building in back. Ambiance is really nice. Patio looks fun, like a great place to enjoy a meal when weather is cooler. I'd give it another try when in the area on a beautiful evening. Make reservations.

Dorn Michelle is a hidden gem in the quaint town of Castroville! Located in a charming old-fashioned building that feels like someone's cozy home, this spot serves up flavorful comfort food with a unique mix of German, Asian, Mexican, and American dishes--there's something for everyone. I had the Firecracker Chicken with rice (so good!), my husband loved the Jaegerschnitzel, and my mother-in-law enjoyed the Fiesta Pasta Salad with a nice spicy kick. Great service, plenty of parking, and lots of outdoor seating make this a must-visit!

Corn Ribs it's delicious must have definitely a treat!!!

My other fav food place! This is a quaint little renovated home turned restaurant out in Castroville. The food is AMAZING. We've never had a dish we don't like. We go out once a month. It's a definite must try! Call ahead and make a reservation. And Ps - Wednesday night are Wok nights (Asian food) I wish I had taken photos every time we've gone because everything is great! The party melt burger is great and so is the adobo chicken

This trip Service 5/5 Food 3.5-4 We recently came for dinner service as a group of 6 on a weekend. Restaurant wasn't packed and we were seated immediately and our server was super friendly. We ordered a couple of drinks and a variety of their dishes- jagerschnitzel ala Holstein per our server, jagerschnitzel, firecracker chicken, and chicken adobo. Food coming out was very very slow! I had to sip my sangria slowly as I needed food to pair. We were all starving. Maybe a complimentary bread basket might be nice to hold customers over while food is prepared. My jagerschnitzel ala Holstein was underwhelming and bland. The schnitzel had a nice breaded texture, but the sauce was scant and flavorless. The sauerkraut as well had no flavor and the potatoes were nice and crispy, but dry. I had to add salt and pepper as well as my friend who ordered the same dish. The entire dish needed a lift. I ate the entire dish because I was so hungry. The chicken adobo dish needed some tweaks. Can't tell from the pic, but the portion was small. Two guys at our table ordered it and finished it within minutes! The chicken breast was dry too. Not enough food for the price charged. I'm all for supporting local establishments. It is a cute, quaint restaurant and I love the farmhouse feel. Service was awesome, just a few improvements need to be added to the food.

Loved this restaurant. Unfortunately when we went they were out of chicken and New York Steak. That ruled out a good portion of the menu. However the burgers and schnitzel that we had was excellent. The location is off the beaten path and a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff was pleasant and well informed of their menu.

We have been seeing this place on a Facebook page that we are a part of, and people have been loving it! It just opened a few weeks ago on March 25th. We arrived as soon as they opened, outside it looks like a small country house with a lot of parking! We walk up to the open door and a very nice lady was sweeping and she said hello and come on in, sit anywhere you like. So, we chose a seat inside the first room, and it was very nice inside, all new paint and furniture with nice decor. She came back quickly, and we chatted about the weather a little and she took our drink and appetizer order. She quickly came out with our drinks, a few minutes later our app arrived! We ordered the Crab Rangoon, we got 6 of them with a great sauce! These Rangoon were great, seemed very fresh and handmade, not full of just cream cheese but with meat and veggies! Best Rangoon I've ever had! We received our food about 12 minutes after that, I got the Pork Schnitzel plate! (Which was huge) The schnitzel was cooked perfectly and had good flavor I really enjoyed the cabbage and capers as well! My wife got the Steak and Frites (another huge plate), the steak was cooked a little more than she asked but was very tender, the Chimichurri had good flavor and also came with a horseradish sauce that was great, and a huge portion of fries or frites! Stuffed to the brim we ordered the Pineapple cheesecake! The cheesecake was great! It came with a pineapple habanero sauce and walnuts! The sauce and nuts paired perfect with the cheesecake in my opinion. Great family-owned place with great service! We will definitely check them out again and hopefully sit outside on a cool summer night!

No. Did I know there was a Castroville-favorite restaurant there as well? Also no. We had to try it. Located inside the Alsatian Golf Club's clubhouse is their 19th-hole restaurant and bar: Julianna's Restaurant. Upon entry, you realize the place has been around for some time. It feels very classic San Antonio, with wooden walls accented by tan and white bricks. The restaurant's aged interior gives it a cozy, lodge-like charm. Though the restaurant was pretty busy on a Saturday night, we were seated instantly at a booth that gave me a perfect view of the Georgia-Alabama game on the bar's TV. After nine or eighteen holes, you never know what you're in the mood for. That's why Julianna's has plenty of options: sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, seafood, steaks, and other meat dishes. Our server came by very quickly and got us our drinks, which for me was a tall Saint Arnold Oktoberfest. I had a tough time deciding between two options: a bone-in pork chop or their creamy Cajun pasta. I opted for the bone-in pork chop with a Caesar salad, bacon green beans, and herb rice. My dad got the creamy Cajun pasta, and my mom got the Southwest chicken. It wasn't long until the Caesar salad came out, with huge croutons and a generous helping of dressing. It was excellent to the point my mom wished she had ordered it over her chicken tortilla soup, which she also enjoyed. If you ever order a meat entrée and they stick a steak knife in it, you're in for an ESPN Instant Classic. The pork chop was huge, topped with a house raspberry chipotle sauce. It was tender and cooked well. I'll admit, trying to find the bone versus the pork was a challenge, but I think that was a me issue. I would order it again. As for the sides, the bacon green beans were sneakily running for Sixth Man of the Year, and the herb rice paired with the pork chop quite well. I would go back. The meal was high quality and felt like a hidden gem even for longtime Castroville residents. What a treat. RIYL: Going to golf courses while being very bad at golf.

We started with the beet and dill salmon on crostini, which was such a fun and memorable dish. Piling everything on yourself made it interactive, almost playful, and you could make each bite as beautiful as you wanted. The flavors were bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced. We ordered all of the entrées--choucroute, hanger steak, and sweet pea risotto--and every single one was delicious. That said, the risotto completely stole the show for me. Creamy and rich without being heavy, it was packed with mushrooms, sweet peas, and delicate pea shoots. The salty, umami depth from the cheese paired beautifully with little bursts of sweetness from the peas--it was honestly exceptional. Outlaw Kitchen is the kind of place where everything works together: the food, the service, and the space. It feels intentional, personal, and special without ever being pretentious. Everything was well timed, except when we were trying to get the check. All the staff seemed to be kind and professional. The patio is lovely, but I imagine it can be uncomfortable in the summer heat. Now for the food. Overall it was good. I found some components spectacular, but felt like some lacked seasoning. I was looking forward to the arancini the most. The croquet itself was crunchy and that cheese was definitely telefono style, but needed some seasoning. The pomodoro was tasty, but the basil made it fabulous. Y'all know how I feel about basil. The ravioli was filled with spinach, mushroom, and ricotta with a brown butter sage sauce. It was delicious and the portion was perfect. My favorite part though was the crunchy shitaki "bacon"and butternut squash. I would take a bowl of that in a heartbeat and would absolutely go back for a butternut squash main dish. It was perfectly roasted and full of flavor and those shitaki were amazing. The preserved lemon vinaigrette over lettuces was phenomenal. Incredible fresh flavor. Desert was chocolate torte and sour cream ice cream. The ice cream was the absolute star of the show. The sweet vanilla was incredible. I sampled the halibut and shrimp and it was perfectly cooked. I would definitely come back to try other offerings.

They were able to seat us on the patio as a walk in on a Saturday night, checked in to offer us a spot by the fireplace when it opened up, kept our water filled throughout the night, and even asked how we wanted our food served. Little touches like that really make a difference. They also brought out complimentary ciabatta bread when we were first seated and then without us asking, brought a fresh batch after our appetizer. The second round was better, with a nice crispy edge that made that satisfying crunch when you squeezed it. Really good with the butter, though if the butter had been just a little saltier it would have been perfect. Beef Carpaccio ($32): Good but average. The individual components were all there but the dish felt like it was missing cohesion. The black sesame parmesan tuiles were a standout though. Georges Bank Seared Sea Scallop ($49): Three huge scallops cooked phenomenally. The mushroom risotto was a bit al dente and on the saltier side, and the mushroom flavor didn't come through as much as I would have liked. The squid ink beurre blanc was lovely though and really brought the dish together. Despite the risotto I would still order this again just for those scallops. Duck and Foie Gras ($46): The duck was cooked beautifully and the foie gras wasn't too heavy, just the right amount. I loved the strawberry arugula salad that came with it. The pairing worked really well overall. I personally didn't think butternut squash was the right puree choice but my husband disagreed and absolutely loved this dish. Foucher Sancerre Rosé ($15 glass): I am usually not a fan of rosé because of how dry they tend to be, but this one was not bad. It tasted much better when paired with food. August Riesling ($12 glass): A yummy, sweet drink that is refreshing and easy to drink. I had to pace myself or I would have finished it before the main courses even came out.
